We booked this place a while back for 4 nights so we could head to San Francisco for a couple days.
Our first couple nights weren't too bad. As a matter of fact, I personally thought this was going to be heaven. There was a pool, a market with some snacks, and -- any writer's dream (well, in my opinion) -- a Starbucks. I was more than content, and my parents seemed to be as well.
...Until we got to our room, of course. We understand that we got a room with two queen-sized beds, but there was hardly any space for us to move around! I hurt myself every time I had to go to the outlet next to my bed to plug my laptop in. We didn't care for it too much, though, since San Francisco was our main goal.
But our main excitement about this was the pool. I was pretty disappointed that there was no hottub, since I was really looking forward to one (I've never been to a hotel of this stature that didn't have a hottub. Is it normal for Courtyard Marriotts not to have one?), but at least there was a pool, right? Wrong. If there was a heater, it was definitely broken, or not even on; the pool was ice cold. We were devastated. After complaining to the front desk about it, we can only assume that they turned the heater back on, because there were people in the pool consistently afterwards.
I like to stay up late into the night, or at least an hour or two after my parents head to bed. Only after everything is silent did I notice that you could hear a very obnoxious buzzing/static sound coming from an unknown location. It never stops! Not only that, but the bathtub constantly drained, even after we had plugged it up, so the stopper was definitely broken. Thanks for wasting my bath bombs.
The Bistro was...okay. We ate there on the third day of our trip because we had to catch the ferry at 9:30. We ordered around 8:10, and didn't get our food until...I believe 8:30-8:40, if not later. And we had ordered very simple items (ie. a couple of pieces of toast and some bacon). It definitely wasn't crowded at that time, either, and there was a decent number of staff working in that section of the hotel. The toast was hard as a rock, and I could hardly eat my french toast since there was barely any flavor. I would've rather have had a pile of bacon than have to drench every bite in maple syrup.
But what brought this review from 4 stars to 1 was the careless, inconsiderate attitude we had been subjected to the last couple days of our vacation.
It didn't bother us too much at first. We ask for a mini fridge, we're told they'll bring us one if there's one available, we don't get a thing. We're offered a microwave, we don't get one. But when you call the front desk to ask if they could send security to the room next door to ask them to quiet their screaming kid down at 11PM and they don't do anything about it after they said they would, then there's a problem. I don't know if Southern California is different than Northern California, but where I'm from, it's common knowledge that any noise after 10PM is disturbing the peace. The fact that we were promised that the noise would stop at 11 and nothing happened until midnight is definitely an issue.
We told the front desk what had happened the next morning with the noise, and she apologized to us and offered to get us anything for the inconvenience. We appreciated the gesture, but we couldn't think of anything that they could do.
The night before we checked out, I was dragged out of my little "nightly watching YouTube videos to calm down before bed" couple of hours by the realization that there were still people in the pool (about 4-5 teenagers) after 10PM. My "common sense" thing aside, there is a sign next to the pool that says the pool hours are 9AM-10PM. Knowing this full well and definitely getting angry that people could be so inconsiderate, I called the front desk to complain. Apparently I was wrong (and I was told so like I was a complete idiot with no idea what I was doing); the hours by the pool were the "quiet hours," and the pool closed at 11PM. Now, I would be fine if that was the case, but (besides being treated very poorly) there was nothing in that pool area that said the pool closed at 11. We went up to the front desk about this and, even though they agreed that the pool closed at 11, they would do something about the noise. Just like I'd expected, they did absolutely nothing, and the teenagers left the pool a little after 11.
All in all, we will never be staying at this hotel again. We probably won't even be staying in Vallejo again. We just wanted to enjoy a nice trip to San Francisco, but our whole experience was tampered with over half the stay.
Please. If you love yourself, your safety, and your desire to have a good vacation, stay somewhere other than here. Being right across the street from a Six Flags is definitely not worth putting up with a (mostly) sketchy staff. This place may be the #1 hotel in Vallejo, but please save your vacation and stay elsewhere. read more
