It was cold with a few inches of snow and we had a snow blizzard on one of the days. However, the weather was beautiful because the sun came back right after. The hotel is adjacent to another Marriott hotel, the Residence Inn. It's funny that the two hotels are connected like a square box. So we walked to our room, the last Courtyard's room on the floor. We could keep walking if we wanted, but the next room was the Residence Inn. The only difference is the outside light for each Courtyard and the Residence Inn's room. If we keep walking past our room and use the other elevator, we will take the elevator down to the lobby of the Residence Inn. OK, enough with the floor plan. This architectural speech makes me sound so smart! Only sound, don't worry, I'm not smart. My parents thought I was smart once, then I don't know what happened LOL! The room was very nice and clean. The carpet looked old but clean. The room was fully equipped with a microwave, a small fridge, and a safe. The hotel has an indoor pool that accommodates guests from the Courtyard and the Residence Inn, but it's never crowded, and almost no one uses it. Also, we had a chance to use the sauna. Avi from the Front Office was nice enough to show us how to get to the swimming pool because it was hidden on the mezzanine floor. We dined at the hotel a few times because the food was great. They had a nice avocado and eggs, steaks, wings, etc. We enjoyed the night at the lobby and talked to the staff members when they were not busy. They're so lovely. The woman at the Front Desk was very sweet, Zayeda? The coffee maker at the lobby was tricky at first. Hubby and I tried to make coffee and saw that it kept charging, but no coffee. The night manager, Michael, explained that we don't have to worry because the charges would disappear if we didn't get coffee until we pressed the last button "make my coffee." There are a lot of steps, so you may think you finish after you pay, but no, keep going. He was right lol! Who invented this crazy machine ha! We need to talk! We had a great time staying here and will stay here again if we return to Montreal. The location is great and the price is affordable. Highly Recommended!

The side walk is narrow and you will be breathing in the exhaust from all the traffic. The neighborhood seems to be redeveloping with a new condo complex and new hotels. The hotel exceeded my expectation as a Courtyard brand. The lobby is stunning with art deco furnishings. Arty, Chic and Modern. The Business Centre is functional with communal tables and 2 individual work stations with computers. The room I stayed in was quite spacious and well layout. The underground parking lot is clean and have couple of charging stations. It is really convenience and well set up. I would recommend Courtyard if you have a car and not visiting the downtown core.

The Long Version: My husband and I stayed at the Best Western in Laval recently and we thought it was good. It's only 4 floors, and the 4th floor only has 2 guest rooms and a conference room (named the Chomedy Room). We were in one of those 2 guest rooms and it was huge. Like bigger than my studio apartment that I lived in during university, lol. We had a king bed, a faux leather couch, a desk, and a dinette set. There was a flat screen TV, coffee maker, mini fridge with small freezer and a microwave. There was a double closet. The entire room was so spacious. We could have literally done cartwheels around the room. This was such a refreshing change from the small and cramped rooms at other Best Westerns. And I've noticed a trend that many hotels are removing microwaves from the rooms, so I was glad we had a microwave. I also enjoyed the non-carpeted floors, much more hygienic, IMO. There's a spiral staircase connecting the first 3 floors. Then an enclosed staircase from the 3rd to 4th floor. Admittedly, I felt it was a bit creepy being on the 4th floor because no one else was around (I don't think the other room was occupied and the conference room was full of chairs and other equipment, so I think it's mostly used for storage instead of a true conference room). And in the elevator there's a list of all the rooms and amenities and what floor they are on and the list makes no mention of the 4th floor. The windows on the 4th floor look out onto the roof, which felt a bit creepy to me too. Lol. Anyway, I think that's more of a me issue because my husband thought the 4th floor was hunky-dory. Although I wonder if the rooms on the other floors are as large. We didn't use the pool nor the gym, but I noticed that the pool is surrounded by glass walls that face the atrium, so it's very visible to people walking around the hotel, so drownings are probably less likely. From a safety standpoint this is great, from a privacy standpoint, not so much. I did go into the gym to take a look. The gym is very small but had a decent amount of equipment and I could see you being able to get a good workout there. Some rooms had balconies overlooking the atrium with tables and chairs. This design reminded me of the now defunct Holiday Inn Yorkdale (in Toronto). It's a bit weird, but I somehow like it. There's also an area with a bar and lounging area in the atrium, but it was closed off. I think it's more for private functions. The breakfast area is also in the atrium. A hot breakfast buffet is included with your stay. During our visit, they had scrambled eggs, home fries and bacon. They also had toast, muffins and bagels, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, bananas, apples, and boiled eggs. The home fries were surprisingly good. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bacon had a mix of very crispy and well done pieces, to less well done pieces. So people can take according to their preferences. I enjoyed the breakfast. It met my expectations for a hotel buffet breakfast. Staff were pleasant. And the hotel was clean. Ample free parking with in and out privileges. It is right off of a collector lane of a highway, so it's busy and may be a bit loud depending on where your room is. We didn't hear any traffic from our room. We would stay there again. I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing but it was suddenly reminiscent of my unpleasant dealings with French customer service from my days living in Paris. When my family and I arrived, the 2 young ladies at the welcome desk saw us, then ignored us, and made sure to continue talking a private conservation for a good 3-4 minutes even while there was nobody else in line, and my group of 4 just stood there for them to finish their private talk to acknowledge our presence. I found their attitude offensive and it really stood out. Besides that, the employees, even the nice/ well meaning ones were extremely slow, stark difference to how business gets done in the US. I'm not sure if it was this hotel in particular of Laval, or French Canada region... It's too bad about the unprofessional and unwarranted attitude and slowness of the staff, because otherwise, the rooms are very good, nice, clean, and pleasant. The prices are reasonable too. The hotel is located in a convenient location next to the main highway of the city.

I'm from America, so I'm not sure but I got the feeling that a Tim's is like a Starbucks in that if there's one in the neighborhood, then the neighborhood can't be that bad. This may be an entirely false equivalency and my lack of fear may have been completely unfounded. If you follow Google maps, it will take you to the back of the hotel, but it's well marked and can easily find your way from there. The first thing I saw as we pulled in were dumpsters, overfilled with trash and with bulk trash items piled around them. This is obviously a weekly/monthly hotel. It's not a place you want to stay if you are vacationing. And it's not really kid friendly. There's a sign in the front office that says there's no marijuana smoking allowed in the rooms (Thank you, high school French), so people hang out in the parking lot and smoke. Me, included. Which is fine for adults, but you probably don't want your kids running around that. The room wasn't nice, that would be a step too far. But it was reasonably clean. The areas in front of the rooms were not so clean. Which could easily be fixed with trash cans and ashtrays put around the outside area. Everything was fine. There were no problems. If you have a flight in the morning, this is a perfectly fine place to stay.

My particular room was a bit dated and didn't look like most of the Internet pictures and instead looked like a typical motel-6 or motel-8. The shower did have a disco affect which means it went hot and cold and hot and cold all on its own, cool! If I would have been offered a room like I saw online, 4 stars easy. However, since I feel a little like I was a bait and switch victim I am sticking with 3 stars. Enjoy!

I finally decided I need a suite and we stayed there. Firstly, the location is great. It's about a 2 minute drive to the best mall I've ever been to, Carrefour laval. It's located around a bunch of grocery stores and even a Walmart. It's right off of the freeway so it's a plus to not have to drive around extra. Check in was pretty fast. They didn't have any luggage racks but the gentleman working there went and located one for us from another floor. I found it odd that he gave us breakfast tickets. I had never seen this at another hotel but later found out non-hotel guests were using their free breakfast. We were pleased that they have an elevator (most choice hotels we've stayed at in the Montreal area do not). We had gotten a double bed suite room. It was almost the same size as my apartment. They had a mini fridge, freezer, microwave and a table with four chairs. The air conditioning worked perfectly, even in the winter. The room did look at a little outdated but it didn't bother us. The only problem I came across was the smell of the sheets. They smelled like plastic. The highlight of my stay was the breakfast the following day. The hours were good- 6:30am-9:30am on a weekday and til 10am on weekends. It was one of the most well organized and delicious hotel breakfasts I have had. They had many vegetarian friendly items: make it yourself waffles in original and strawberry flavors, Kraft peanut butter, raspberry jam, caramel, large muffins, oatmeal, 4 types of cereals, English muffins, and breads. The lady who ran the breakfast room was very pleasant and didn't give us a hard time for eating past 9:30 like some hotels do. Most importantly, the breakfast room did not stink of meats or fried food. I would not hesitate to stay at quality suites again next time I visit Montreal. The rate was $105 Canadian including tax but converted into about $77 American dollars.
