TL;DR/The Short Version:
Fairly good Best Western. Has a pool, gym and free breakfast. We were happy with our stay.
The Long Version:
My husband and I stayed at the Best Western in Laval recently and we thought it was good.
It's only 4 floors, and the 4th floor only has 2 guest rooms and a conference room (named the Chomedy Room). We were in one of those 2 guest rooms and it was huge. Like bigger than my studio apartment that I lived in during university, lol. We had a king bed, a faux leather couch, a desk, and a dinette set. There was a flat screen TV, coffee maker, mini fridge with small freezer and a microwave. There was a double closet. The entire room was so spacious. We could have literally done cartwheels around the room. This was such a refreshing change from the small and cramped rooms at other Best Westerns. And I've noticed a trend that many hotels are removing microwaves from the rooms, so I was glad we had a microwave. I also enjoyed the non-carpeted floors, much more hygienic, IMO.
There's a spiral staircase connecting the first 3 floors. Then an enclosed staircase from the 3rd to 4th floor. Admittedly, I felt it was a bit creepy being on the 4th floor because no one else was around (I don't think the other room was occupied and the conference room was full of chairs and other equipment, so I think it's mostly used for storage instead of a true conference room). And in the elevator there's a list of all the rooms and amenities and what floor they are on and the list makes no mention of the 4th floor. The windows on the 4th floor look out onto the roof, which felt a bit creepy to me too. Lol. Anyway, I think that's more of a me issue because my husband thought the 4th floor was hunky-dory. Although I wonder if the rooms on the other floors are as large.
We didn't use the pool nor the gym, but I noticed that the pool is surrounded by glass walls that face the atrium, so it's very visible to people walking around the hotel, so drownings are probably less likely. From a safety standpoint this is great, from a privacy standpoint, not so much.
I did go into the gym to take a look. The gym is very small but had a decent amount of equipment and I could see you being able to get a good workout there.
Some rooms had balconies overlooking the atrium with tables and chairs. This design reminded me of the now defunct Holiday Inn Yorkdale (in Toronto). It's a bit weird, but I somehow like it. There's also an area with a bar and lounging area in the atrium, but it was closed off. I think it's more for private functions.
The breakfast area is also in the atrium. A hot breakfast buffet is included with your stay. During our visit, they had scrambled eggs, home fries and bacon. They also had toast, muffins and bagels, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, bananas, apples, and boiled eggs.
The home fries were surprisingly good. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bacon had a mix of very crispy and well done pieces, to less well done pieces. So people can take according to their preferences. I enjoyed the breakfast. It met my expectations for a hotel buffet breakfast.
Staff were pleasant. And the hotel was clean.
Ample free parking with in and out privileges.
It is right off of a collector lane of a highway, so it's busy and may be a bit loud depending on where your room is. We didn't hear any traffic from our room.
We would stay there again.
