My husband and I stayed here recently and it was pretty standard for a Holiday Inn. We have stayed at many Holiday Inns (and in fact at one time we were even Platinum IHG Members, but alas, no more...). Some Holiday Inns try to set themselves apart from others, but this one blends in with the crowd.
We booked directly through the hotel and with taxes and fees we paid about $155 a night. This included parking and internet, and a "continental breakfast voucher" for 1 person (more on that later).
Parking was plentiful and WiFi was fast and reliable.
The room itself was unremarkable (which is not necessarily a bad thing). It met the standards I set for hotels. Those who follow my hotel reviews will know that I wipe down all commonly used hard surfaces with Clorox wipes when I arrive and do a thorough check for bugs. I am happy to announce that the wipes came out clean! No grey/black or sticky wipes. And no bugs! The room was a fair size, not that spacious, but it didn't feel cramped. It had a small fridge and a coffee maker (no microwave). Toiletries were from Bath and Body Works.
The location is convenient for Laval. You are across the street from the "Terminus Le Carrefour" (bus station) and also across the street from the Carrefour Laval Shopping Mall (the biggest shopping mall in Laval. It's also a Cadillac-Fairview Mall, so it's big and aesthetically pleasing). The hotel has its own restaurant called Zircon and it also has a sports bar (La Cage aux Sports) attached to it.
So let me tell you about the "continental breakfast voucher." We assumed it was going to be a breakfast buffet, because that's how it usually is at Holiday Inns. We considered paying for me so that we could eat together, but I'm not a huge fan of the usual hotel breakfast offerings, so I figured why not save money and stomach space and stay in our room and eat stuff that we picked up at a local bakery the night before? And that's exactly what I did. Now we didn't want to waste the breakfast voucher, so my husband went to the hotel restaurant by himself, lol. Turns out it's not a continental breakfast buffet at all. The server explained to him that the voucher would give him a $6.99 credit to our room and he can order whatever he wants from the menu and just pay the difference. Uh, that's fine, but why didn't the voucher just say "$6.99 credit towards breakfast" then? I felt the whole thing was a bit misleading, but whatever, no big deal. Anyway, my husband ended up getting a breakfast sandwich with homefries and a coffee for $10.99 (minus the voucher, so we essentially paid $4 for his breakfast, and then taxes and tip obviously). He said the food was ok. Not a bad deal if you have the voucher. I do not regret my decision to stay in our room and eat $2.45 cake from a local bakery for breakfast though, lol.
We totally slacked off during our trip, so we didn't even go to the fitness centre, so I can't tell you anything about it (except that there is one, and also a pool). Yeah, I know, not working out and eating cake for breakfast, I'm bad. Do not follow this lifestyle example, and don't tell my trainer what I did, haha.
Anyway, overall, we had a good stay. read more
