I am a Marriott rewards member, I travel several times a month for work and try and stay at Marriott properties when I can. This hotel is very new, out of all the properties I've stayed this had the nicest room yet, very clean spacious (single king) with a couch nice TV, BIG bathroom with an awesome floor to ceiling frameless glass shower with a shower head at the propper height (ABOVE your head, one of my pet peeves about hotels is the god damn shower head at face level that's the worst) mini fridge has no freezer but that's cool. Fast WiFi that's free. Lots of close food and a Kmart within walking distance. It's super close to the school. Very nice staff as well always an easy time getting in and out. This hotel gets 5 stars because it's staff is amazing. Christi helped at check-in, and even recommended a dinner place and drove our group back and forth to the restaurant. She was funny and fabulous. Every staff member I met was engaging, and extremely helpful. There is a large pit, clean pool, jacuzzi, small gym with free headphones and the rooms are updated and nicely done. I do wish there was a breakfast buffet in the morning, but the little dining area does have Starbucks coffee and frittatas in the morning and some nice wine selections at night. It is very close to the UCSB pool for swim meets. read more

The hotel itself was clean and pretty, but the staff was beyond rude. I had called the day before I checked in to make a reservation for two rooms for one night. When I arrived, I was told that only one reservation had been made. The general manager, who was helping us, told us that WE must have made a mistake and only made one reservation. I was skeptical because I had double checked before hanging up the phone with the reservationist, but agreed that maybe I might have made the error. I then asked her if there were any rooms available for that night. She said no and that there was ABSOLUTELY no rooms available. She gave us a shrug and told me I should have called if I had not received a confirmation email. Again, I was sure I had made the right reservations and asked her to check one more time. I gave her the time and the name of the reservationist I spoke with, and with that, she was able to find that I did make a reservation for TWO rooms. However, the reservationist had one made correctly, and the other room for two months later. She then apologized and offered us the two rooms we had originally booked for. I understand that reservationists are human and they are prone to error. That is not what I was upset about. What I was more upset about was the fact that the GENERAL MANAGER informed me in such an apathetic manner only a couple minutes earlier that they had ABSOLUTELY NO AVAILABILITY, and pulls up a room after realizing the error on their part. She did not bother to fully investigate the situation and automatically assumed that the customer was the one to blame. She did not adequately apologize for the misunderstandings. Like most families, we came here to have a good time and enjoy the last few days of sumer. Unfortunately, the Courtyard Santa Barbara Goleta WAS NOT the place to be. read more

DON'T BE THE NEXT VICTIM! YOUR RESERVATION MEANS NOTHING - THEY WILL GIVE AWAY YOUR ROOM! After confirming our reservation, we arrived at 3:15pm after a 4 hour road trip only to be told that the previous guest had been given a late checkout and there were no other rooms available! We then inquired when the room would be available and noticed the lady at the front desk was very uncomfortable answering us and couldn't give us a time. We asked to speak with the Manager and "January" appeared, asking us to find another hotel as the previous guest may decide to "extend his stay". We reminded the Manager that OUR ROOM wasn't available for the previous guest to "extend his stay" as we were there meeting another couple for a birthday weekend and the room was already sold to us! She then changed her story saying she couldn't reach the guest or demand he leave our room. We are Marriott Rewards members and travelled the world yet we have never been treated like this! We were left in the hotel lobby for over 3 hours prompting our phone call to Marriott Customer Service in which a Rep confirmed how unacceptable this situation was and asked to put us on hold while he spoke with the Manager. The Manager suddenly appeared stating she had just "reached" the guest in our room and he would be leaving the hotel after all. The Marriott Customer Service Rep finished the phone call and apologized to us for the entire experience. He said the Manager would be offering us a reduced rate. She offered us nothing....she handed us the key and walked away... read more

Don't eat in the bistro cafe if you need to be somewhere. We stood in line from 7:40 am until 8:00 only to find out that they were sold out of several items and the credit card reader wasn't working. Food was delivered to wrong table when it finally came out at 8:20. read more

Well appointed and clean hotel! My husband and I came to town for our anniversary and Jill was so very kind and welcoming to us. They have a Starbucks and a great breakfast menu. Our room was clean and perfect - with attention to detail such as firm vs soft pillows options and Netflix on the TV. The pool was clean and inviting. Great location. Nice Courtyard by Marriott. All the staff was very nice and professional. The grounds were very nice as well. Clean rooms. Ice maker was not working but the fridge cooled down the drinks quickly. No more free coffee in the lobby any longer, but there is a McDonald's nearby. The gym needs a pull down rope for the cable machine and the temp should be set to 70, felt a little humid in there when there are more that two people. Cups need to be refilled and there should be some tissue paper. Enjoyed my stay overall. read more

Had such a nice stay the first night, I decided to stay another:) I had a couple cocktails and enjoyed the fire pits by the pool. The pool temp was perfect btw! The rooms were very clean and comfortable, housekeeping staff made a beautiful arrangement in the room, I felt like I was pampered! UCSB is very close by and I met other parents here who had dropped their child off at school :) There are some places to go shopping near by but downtown Santa Barbara is not too far away. read more

Title says it all. I stayed in a king suite (upgraded due to status) and I was extremely impressed. Everything new, very, VERY nice, fabulous inner courtyard with fire pits and a swimming pool, in a quiet, very upscale neighborhood about 7 minutes from UCSB. I also love, love LOVE the Keurig machine they give you for in-room coffee. Very nice, and a huge step up from marriott's normally wanky coffee gizmos. My only complaint was that it was a little pricy for a Courtyard, but it *is* Goleta. My only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer and enjoy the fire pits! read more

Traveling from the Central time zone to Pacific at off times can be challenging. Thank you to Marriott Mobile Check-in. I arrived at the hotel after 9:30 PM. It was a quick check in and my room lights and TV were on plus alternative turn-down service. I stay at Marriott properties frequently and this was the nicest, well kept property I have stayed in for several years. The breakfast service should open a bit earlier (I think it was 7AM) but other than that it was a great place to stay. read more

I booked a room with two beds over a month in advance for my family by phone directly with a front desk clerk at the property, informing them at the time of the reservation that it was for my son's youth hockey team. We booked here along with all the other families from my son's hockey team. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk murmured something under her breath about a room upgrade while checking us in. We got to our room and walked in to find only one bed. I called the front desk immediately and was told there was only one other room available that also only had one bed. She told me they oversold their rooms for the night. Our options were to be transferred to a different hotel that may or may not have two beds available and not be next door to the ice rink with the entire team, or to have my kids sleep one on a too small loveseat and one on the floor. We opted to stay because of the sheer inconvenience of trying to be transferred to another hotel as it was already 10pm. I asked for extra sheets, blankets and pillows. It took about 15-20 min to have someone show up with three blankets. I again asked for pillows and sheets. Waited another 15-20 minutes to get pillows. Never did get sheets. It was a completely unacceptable experience. I did give it a rating of two because the hotel was nice and the breakfast in the morning had better options than most hotels. But be wary of booking here as obviously overbooking is very frequent based on the attitudes of the employees about it. read more

I am writing this review to express my complete dissatisfaction from my recent stay at Courtyard Santa Barbara, Goleta on 12/27/2014. This stay was packed with unpleasant experiences none of which were addressed by the hotel management. Below I would like to list a few incidence that resulted in a horrible stay for me and my pregnant wife: 1. Upon arrival I was notified by the lady working the front-desk that there is a plumbing problem with the hotel rooms. Specifically speaking, she stated that the showers are all out and there is no water pressure in most of faucets either. When I asked when the problem started and when they're expecting to resolve the issue she stated that "the problem occurred since early morning and we don't have any estimate time for the showers to come back online." When I asked why this problem was not communicated to the guest prior to their arrival she responded "We were hoping to get this fixed!" She then offered to help us look for another hotel as well. Just a quick note that the closes Marriott was approximately 30 miles away from this location. I did a quick search on my phone for other locations but there was no hotel that was satisfactory to me and my wife, so we had no choice other than just checking in and waiting for the showers to get fixed! We waited for about 4 hours while continuously checking the shower for water. It would have been nice if we got notified once the problem was resolved. But again a complete lack of communication from the hotel management. We pretty much wasted a half day just waiting in the room. We also missed early dinner plans with our friends! 2. Second problem was with the way they handled Gold elite members. At the time of check-in I would appreciate an offer to upgrade from the suite that I had reserved. The problem with the plumbing was so sudden that I completely forgot to inquire about the upgrade. But now I realize that It would be a nice treatment if the gold or platinum guests are offered an upgrade if available. 3. After waiting in the room for a few hours we decided to leave the hotel for dinner. When I asked the gentleman at the counter for free breakfast that should come standard with my gold elite status he simply said that "We don't honor that in this location, it's weird!" Now I understand that some hotel have their own regulations and rules but again these information must be made available at the time of booking. I use Marriott for almost all my business travels and getting upgrades and free breakfast is not very essential to me but it's a nice thing to have and goes a long way. 4. There was black stains on one of the shower towels. We didn't even bother calling the room service for that. 5. Ordering the breakfast was a complete chaos. The hotel was clearly understaffed as the lady from the front-desk was waiting tables and bring people their orders. She was evidently not trained for this job as she got our orders and many other people's wrong. We ordered a simple sandwich but it came on the wrong bread. Also she forgot to bring us plates and utensils until we were almost done with our meals. Nothing against her, she was running around trying to deliver orders and take care of the guests but she was just shorthanded and could not catch up the intensity of orders and demands from the guests. I have been with Marriott for many years now and I use it for business trips all the time. I also encourage my employees to use Marriott brand hotels for their travels. I'm seriously considering not using Marriott hotels after this incident. This stay was supposed to a be relaxing weekend with my wife but turned out to be a disaster every step of the way from lack of clear communication to bad service from hotel personnel. read more

We just checked in. It's my birthday weekend so we thought we would splurge on a super nice room. We've never spent $300 on a room so expected much more. We paid $325 and this is what we got... -we booked a king bed room, the bed is queen at best. The quality of the bed is cheap, like an ikea bed frame where you can feel the box spring. The linens are atrociously super cheap. We've stayed at a Radisson for $135 and received a huge king with unbelievable linen, comforter, pillow quality. -one of the biggest problems we have is when you walk in the bed is not facing the tv, they have a huge vertical cabinet that blocks the tv so you can't actually see the entire tv and you have to watch it sideways When we brought this issue up and asked if they had other layouts they said all the kings are like this layout. They asked us if we wanted to see the two queen size room, while the purpose of being a couple Is to sleep in the same bed we checked it out. The two queen bed is slightly bigger than a double size bed at best. -the other issue is for a $325 room there is no bathtub. I'm also disabled person so cannot get into a standing shower. Also the purpose of spending $325 is to pamper yourself and take a bath which is what I planned to do. No king rooms have bathtubs. For $325 that is ridiculous. The room is fine for $140 but not $325. Not even close. We spoke with the desk concierge and though he was nice he came away with the only option of giving us the two queen (really double bed) or 3, 000 membership points. We don't have a Marriott membership but he said for an actual night at any Marriott we would need 40,000 points which makes that gesture virtually useless. Again, never spent more than $300, we've been in $300 before and the luxury was outstanding. This is not. No microwave, no bathtub, can't see the tv, cheap uncomfortable bed, the cheapest linens, the smallest king size bed I've ever been in...not worth it and we'd never stay here again and recommend the same to you. Extremely low quality for the money. outrageous we spent that for this. Also the concierge went back and talked to the manager, the manager is the one who offered us the 3,000 useless points, and when the guy came back out the manager walked out behind him and wouldn't address us and too busy to speak or accommodate our issues. This is a beautiful Hotel. We recently stayed there for five days and had a great time. The employees are very nice and the atmosphere is wonderful. The rooms were super comfortable and very close to the university which was a plus. I will definitely stay here next time we are in Santa Barbara. read more

Day two we left to explore SB and the wharf area, it was nice to come back to a clean and tidy room. I appreciate them serving Starbucks coffee. Nothing but the best from Courtyard! I had a really good experience here over the weekend. The lobby was very clean and smelled great. The front desk was quick to help and friendly. Our room was perfectly comfortable and clean. The tv is not directly across the bed which we were surprised about, but we then noticed that it sits on something that can be pulled forward for a better view so we didn't have an issue with that. Netflix, pandora, and Hulu were available which we thought was great. Of course you need your own account which automatically logs you out upon checkout. Our toilet tank began to leak and we notified the front desk on our way out. We were back in our room an hour later. The problem was fixed and they left us a bag of popcorn which we appreciated. I do have to say that their beds aren't the most comfortable but luckily I can pretty much sleep anywhere so it didn't ruin the experience. Overall, we were happy with our stay. I really hope they keep up with the service and cleanliness of the hotel. read more

The best thing about this place is the maid service. We're Marriott platinum traveling on points, staying five days on business. Check in was weird. Had to reiterate request for 2 nd floor, courtyard view. No upgrades available to us because they were booked, according to Stacy. No free coffee in the lobby in the morning. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean. Shopping center is close by with good places to eat. Location to Santa Barbara was great! My reason for the low rating is the bed was so uncomfortable (hard). It felt like I was sleeping on a board. The front desk gave me an extra comforter to place on top of the mattress but this still did not help. I was able to get better sleep on the love seat than the bed. The hotel is in a good location and clean. I like to watch TV at night and unfortunately you can't see the whole TV because part of it is obstructed by a closet. I asked for a room with a different configuration and was told they were all the same. To make matters worse it was the right side that was obstructed which is where the remote receiver is located so to changing the channel became a hassle. The beds are not very comfortable either. I won't be staying at this property again. read more

I thought this was a great affordable place to stay. The rooms were bright and big and the lobby was excellent for working. Staff was very nice too and they served things like coffee, lemonade and apple cider during the day in the lobby. If you need to go to SB for a sports event with kids this is a great choice. It's near UCSB and other affordable places to eat and shop. read more

Marriott Lifetime Platinum Member. This is the nicest Courtyard I have ever stayed in, bar none. Having a difficult time reading some of the low ranking reviews on this property, as this place is as good as it gets. High wooden ceiling and excellent out door space compliment the very nice lobby. Restaurant type dining and Nichol was outstanding as she served the best tuna sandwich I have ever had. Room was clean and neat, housekeeping did a very nice job. Only negative was hearing the doors slam from other rooms. I'm a Lifetime Platinum Member and don't expect upgrades when I check into a Marriott. This is an excellent place to stay in the Santa Barbara area if you need to stay on the North side towards UCSB. Pricey but all hotels of this caliber are expensive in or near Santa Barbara. read more

We travel to Santa Barbara several times a year to visit our daughter at UCSB. We were thrilled to find the Courtyard in Goleta a few years ago. Even with all the hotel options downtown, we still opt for the Courtyard. We have always had great service and wonderful accommodations. Special kudos to Daniel T. who goes beyond the call of duty for my family whenever we come in. We travel quite often and have never experienced the service that Daniel shows us. We are so appreciative and loyal to the Courtyard in Goleta for this reason. read more

this hotel just opened last Thursday and it is super nice. The rooms are beautiful and the grounds too. They even have a putting green... Make sure you book a room overlooking the courtyard as it makes a big difference with the others facing the parking lot. We booked using points otherwise it is pretty pricey but I highly recommend it! read more

this place is bad. they put us in room 204 and it was above a generator- we had really bad sleep.

My son was going to a baseball tryout at UCSB. We stayed here for one night. From the outside, the property is lovely. Very convenient to the campus athletic facilities. We are Marriott Gold members. We were told when we checked in that we were getting a room upgrade (part of being a Gold Member), but when we arrived in the room, it was tiny and dark. Not much of an upgrade. When I called the front desk to ask them how this room represented an upgrade, they told me that I was not upgraded and that they had paying Platinum members who would be upgraded before I would (we had paid for our room, too). Not exactly what I was expecting to hear, but, okay. I just asked to be moved to another room --- one not as dark. They told me they were sold out. Eventually, we did get moved to a much bigger room (I still don't know what changed), but the bed in that room was very, very old. When we sat on the bed, we could hear the springs compressing and squeaking. All night, every time we moved, the bed made terrible sounds. You could literally feel the springs through the top of the mattress. When I called customer service to alert them to my experience, they told me that they would send an email to the property -- which they did. I got an email from Stacey Meyer, the Assistant General Manager of the property, who informed me, "We have quite a few people compliment us on the beds and ask what type they are to purchase their own." I'm not sure who these people are, but I am not one of them. In my 50 years of life, I've slept on many hotel beds and do not believe it takes special skills to know when a bed is not comfortable. I also know that, as Marriott regulars, this experience is not typical of Marriott and should have been addressed more effectively. They failed on this one, in my book. Thus, this Yelp review, along with some Tweets. Marriott can do better. By the way, the 2 star review is because of the small, dark room and the uncomfortable bed. It is not reflective of the customer service, as this is subject to change depending on who is in charge. read more
