    Small, older but comfortable

Older complex, a little dated but overall clean. I book a lot of stays for my employees and myself through Choice Hotels (diamond member) so I typically know what to expect with every Choice Hotel from their budgets to their boutique. I came into their tiny lobby but was a little taken back when the individual working behind the counter (a young male with a forearm tat) asked that I masked up even though the mandate in California for indoor spaces was dropped last week. He handed me a mask and I complied (don't want to freak anyone out). Well....I left my key in the room when I went out to dinner so I had to go back to the front desk for a new key. I was blown away when this same (words I can't use in a review) individual came out of the back with no mask and proceeded to make a new card key...still no mask, WTH! Of course, I had to ask what was up.....no comment. Just gave me a dirty look. Management, if you're still concerned or want to protect your hypocritical employees, put up a large plastic shield to protect them. If you're still going to promote mask mandates after this state removes them, I'll find a different place to stay next time I'm in town.

Room was clean and well stocked. Wall is thin to the point I woke up 2-3 times one night because my neighbor was drunk crying. Bed and pillows was comfortable. Employees are very helpful and friendly. They serve a simple breakfast, coffee, teas, hot chocolate, quick oatmeal, varieties of yogurt. Thank you

    Cockroach in room

Had to wake up desk agent when checking in at 2:50pm. Went to unpack in original room which was nice until I saw the cockroach. Was moved to a handicap room that was on the lower level so I got to hear the stomping upstairs and word for word conversations next door and outside because of how this room is laid out. The entire place seems to be tired and dated and not worth the money

Rice on the carpet as soon as we checked in...eww!!! No wonder they have roaches!!!

This place was pretty gross. We saw a roach on the nightstand that crawled into the alarm clock and immediately checked out. There was also rice on the carpet (see photo), indicating that the room had not been thoroughly cleaned. This was the type of place you don't want to take your shoes off in (a clear sign that I should've never been there in the first place- I was being cheap lol). The thing about Quality Inns is that they can vary greatly depending on location. Based on other reviews, I thought this would be a decent one...SO WRONG!! If you like decent quality lodging at a reasonable price, try the Hampton Inn in Goleta (where we ended up staying) or elsewhere. This is NOT where you want to spend your money or time.

Although this hotel is a little, it was very clean and I would definitely stay here again. It includes breakfast but I didn't have it.

This is affordable hotel in expensive Santa Barbara. Pandemic or wrapped pastries are for breakfast. The room has fridge, coffee maker and tea bags. The room is quite clean and staff is courteous. The only criticism is the wall is so thin that I can hear my next door neighbor's TV.

    King size bed

We stopped by Quality Inn for a night on our way up to wine country. We weren't expecting much in terms of the property itself, but were pleasantly surprised at how clean the room was and how friendly the staff was. Other reviews are correct that this is pretty much a no-frills hotel, but they have the basics covered: Clean Room, Decent Breakfast, and Helpful staff. Checking in was a breeze, and the front desk representative was very friendly. We quickly got a room on the second floor, overlooking the pool with very comfortable king size bed. There was coffee, a fridge and a microwave in the room as well. The bathroom sink is located a bit oddly in the entryway hallway, but I suppose the location allows for someone to use the shower and the sink at the same time. The location of the motel was very convenient to downtown State Street, only a few minutes drive away. There is a Trader Joes and Coffee Bean across the street as well. Breakfast was also surprisingly diverse, there was fresh fruit, biscuits with sausage bacon, scrambled eggs and a make-your-own waffle machine. The coffee was fresh and replenished often. The breakfast area was also tidy and well-stocked. I think the biggest thing I liked about Quality Inn's breakfast they don't immediately shut everything down at 10:00AM. If you roll in a little after 10:00AM, there'll still be plenty of food to go around. I also liked that the check out time is 12:00PM, which was much later than a lot of motels in the area in case you have a late-sleeper in your group. The only complaints I have are minor: all the rooms face the parking lot, so it can get noisy at night. During our stay, someone inconsiderate decided to rev their motorcycle in the parking lot at about 3:30AM which woke everyone up. This was not the motel's fault. Also for what you get, the cost can be high. Our room was about $200 for a single night (granted it was a holiday weekend). Granted, Santa Barbara is just generally an expensive area to stay. Besides that, we could definitely stay at the Quality Inn again when we come back to the Santa Barbara area, and if the price is right.

Worst experience of my life. I don't understand how this business is still running. The room we got was completely filthy! Started from our socks turning black, gunk on the floor, old bottles from previous guests, debris all over the room and old beds. The worst part of the experience is that we noticed BLOOD was on our comforter! BLOOD! Made me want to throw up. Never in my life I had to book another hotel due to my stay. We requested for a full refund for 2 nights but only got our money back for the 2nd night and want nothing was accommodated at all. Due yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

They have a garage that opens around 8 or 9 AM (they don't open it too early because the garage door is loud for guests) and has free stuff for you to use including beach cruiser bikes, beach lounge chairs, towels, beach toys, umbrellas, and more. The lobby has snacks (granola bars, bananas, orange, etc) that were accessible during their hours (they close at 9) as well as a water machine from which you can fill your aluminum water bottles from your hotel room. I liked how they didn't use plastic trash bags, no plastic bottles, and no plastic soap containers. It seemed that they were really eco-friendly. We interacted with 3 hotel staff members and all were helpful and friendly. They gave us a list of kid-centric things to do. We stayed in unit 8 which had a queen bed and a living room as well as a kitchenette. The kitchen had everything we needed and the tools were clean, new and orderly. The unit was clean as well. The palm trees in the middle of the parking lot are nicely lit at nice. The water pressure in the bathroom was super strong. I liked that the bathroom had a window as well as the kitchen. Some rooms have a small patio door in the back. From our kitchen window we could see plants and flowers. Outside of our room there were cute tables with lots of flowers as well. It's a great location and walking distance to the beach. The bad: We accidentally went a few blocks down from here to Harbor View Inn first and then realized our mistake. Two different hotels! The bathroom is on the small side. The interesting: The parking lot is small so they don't allow big trucks/vans. If you check-out before 7:30 am (like we did) then you will leave your keys in the mailbox out front by their office.

Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and that always gets extra stars from me. They don't charge any pet fee or have size restrictions and if you ask them, they will provide food and water bowls for your stay. As someone who always travels with her dog, that adds a lot of value for me. This location even told me that, while I couldn't bring the dog to the restaurant on site, I could bring her to the nightly wine reception. I did not ever end up attending one but it's the thought that counts. The location was great. It was about a 15-minute walk to beach and we did walk to Stearns Wharf multiple times during our stay. It typically took us about 10 minutes to walk to one of the many restaurants in the area that we had decided to go to each time. There are lots of coffee shops, wine bars and places to eat within walking distance so we ended up leaving our car parked for most of our stay. I believe the valet parking was an additional $50 or $60 a night but you do get in and out privileges. We just found that we didn't need the car much to get around on our visit and in the time it takes to have somebody pull it out for you, you could have already walked halfway to your destination. The amenities are nice. They have a rooftop pool, fitness center and then their complimentary coffee, etc. I did not end up taking advantage of any of those because I travel with my dog, so I can't speak directly to the quality of any of them, but I know most people appreciate having extras like that. Our room was cute and comfortable and felt very cozy. It was honestly probably smaller than I expected for the price point, but it had everything that we needed and I was happy with my stay. It was absolutely worth it. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and what really stood out was their text-based concierge system. They text you before arrival, and you can ask for anything during your stay -- they respond quickly and clearly. Honestly, that alone made the stay feel effortless. They even had the car ready before we got downstairs. It felt like having a pocket concierge. The view was fantastic, noise levels were low, and the beach is literally across the street, right at a crosswalk. We spent a lot of time on the balcony -- the room was large, the patio was generously sized, and we loved reading out there with the sounds of birds and seals in the background. Beds were very comfortable, the bathroom had great water pressure, and the jetted tub was basically a sauna -- a huge plus after walking all day. Free water bottles in the room were also appreciated. We ate at Convivo onsite -- it was fine, solid food, but a bit pedestrian flavor-wise. That said, there are so many excellent places to eat in Santa Barbara, and we walked to several without any trouble. Very walkable area for both beach time and dining. For car lovers: there's constant classic car and hot rod cruising along the beach, which was fun to watch from the balcony. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable for the location, room size, and level of service. But only stayed one night for the wedding. The other nights that we stayed were at another hotel in Santa Barbara. This Hilton hotel I'm giving one star more than the other because it is a Hilton. 1) Completely out dated. It looks like it's something out of the 90s. They can at least buy new furniture. The carpets smell. Everything smells very musty and old. The front desk when you check in is very small. We actually walked right by it because we didn't even see it. It was that small. For such a big hotel you would think that they would have a bigger front desk for their guest to check in and out of. For this to be a Hilton, they need to spend more money on renovation. 2) We could only stay one night because of how expensive it was. We were expecting a lot more for the price. When we entered the room, the linens smelled, and again the carpet smelled very musty. We called the front desk. It took them forever to answer the phone and when they did, they had an attitude about changing the linens. It took two hours for them to come to our room to change out the linens thank God they did because the second set of linens did not smell. 3) The staff all over the hotel were completely rude and aggressive. It didn't matter what department they were in. If this was a rundown Motel 6, then that would be one thing, but it was a Hilton in Santa Barbara facing the ocean. 4) When it came time for the wedding it felt great. It felt organized. I'm not sure if that was the Hilton staff or not. but I know that the catering was the Hilton and that was not organized and that staff was horrible and aggressive. For instance, taking your food while you're still eating. And giving you attitude if you say that you're still eating your dinner. 5) When it came time to use the downstairs restroom my wife stated that the downstairs restroom was filthy, and there was paper towels all over the ground. 6) Which brings me to my next point, this Hilton Hotel felt very understaffed. I could keep going, but the point is that my wife and I do love the Hilton family hotels, but this place is not the best Hilton out there. We will not be back.
