Wow, just Wow! The Courtwood Inn is located up in the hills a short drive from downtown Murphy's. Set off by itself with stunning views over the hills, it is peaceful and quiet. The log home is perfect for the setting. We parked and buzzed to get in to check-in late afternoon. Larry and Chris were so friendly and welcoming. They checked us in, showed us around the common areas and breakfast room then took us downstairs to our room, which is just off a game room with a ping pong table. The house is like stepping into a mountain log home. The living room has a beautiful stone fireplace and comfy furniture to cozy into with a good book. The wrap around deck off the living room has tables and chairs with boundless views. The wine bar off the entry is where you will find your cheese and crackers and glass of wine from the local area in the late afternoon. The breakfast room is cozy and comfortable. Going downstairs to our room, we were in the Australian Open room, just off a larger game room with a ping pong table. Our room was so cozy and comfortable. We had a small living area with a sofa and coffee table. The bedroom had a comfy bed with a TV and sliding doors out to the lower patio. There were stunning views from the patio and a table with four chairs. Our bathroom was large with a large vanity and double sinks and a fabulous shower. We settled in, sat out on the deck upstairs to enjoy our wine, views and cheese and crackers. Our one night stay was during the week and there was only one other couple at the inn who were so nice and we enjoyed a visit with them over a delicious breakfast the next morning. We so wished we had more nights at this inn. Everything was first class and again Larry and Chris are the perfect owners for an inn. They cooked breakfast themselves and it was incredible. We didn't even need lunch. Both Larry and Chris are tennis Phanatic's, and there are tennis courts at the inn. I believe they both may have played professionally and you can get lessons with Larry if you schedule them before your stay. Note: As we were leaving and visiting with Larry and Chris, we told them we will be back as Murphy's is such a cool town in the Gold Country and the inn is the best. Larry said well with that being said, Chris and I have decided to retire and he handed me a flyer from the real estate company along with a letter from he and Chris advising guests of their retirement. However, until it sells they will be running the inn. So, do yourself a favor and run to stay at the inn before we may no longer have that option. Thank you Larry and Chris, although our stay was short, we loved every minute and enjoyed meeting and visiting with you both.

Breakfast #2 - super fluffy quiche(?), house made scone and chicken apple sausage.

Like so many people, we're curious as to what else is out there in our universe and beyond. Whenever we can, we like to look up at the stars to see what we can. About a week ago, I feld the urge to skygaze. Looking at the phases of the moon for the Northern Hemisphere, I found that December 4th would be a no moon night. When there's no moon, you can see so many more stars so I began looking to see where we could go with dark skies. The further away you can get from civilization, the less ambient light there is to hamper your view. Death Valley was too far to drive. Joshua Tree, the same. Surprise Valley, north of Reno? Nope. Great Basin National Park at the Eastern end of Nevada? Perfect! But too far to drive. If you've ever done the Highway 50 drive, you know what I mean. What's this? Courtwood Inn near Murphy's? 2 hours, 2 minutes and only 95 miles away? Isolated on 5 acres on a hilltop? Gourmet Breakfast included? I looked to see if they had a room available. Yup. One room left. The Wimbleton. For two nights. We've never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before. This would be something new for us. No particular reason, just hadn't tried it. Kind of odd considering how much time we've spent travelling over the years. At any rate, why not? Following their suggestion, we punched Courtwood Inn into our GPS instead of their address. Apparently there is another similarly named street elsewhere in the county and most GPS's will take you to the wrong place. Let me tell you, it gets mighty dark in Gold Country! Chris had suggested that we also arrived earlier if we could because our day of arrival was Murphys Day, a holiday celebration for the townspeople and guests. She and Larry were looking forward to seeing some friends in town coupled with a bit of wine tasting. The building is beautiful, the property well maintained. A gravel parking lot separates the building from the two tennis courts. While we no longer pretend to play tennis, we took advantage of the upper court to stargaze at night. Because of the a couple of exterior lights over the garage and some ambient light from the house, the netting at the top of the fence served as a light block. Spectacular! We never found the Milky Way. My fault for not spending the time to do more research. Chris told me which way to face but I should have asked more about what time. I was so discombobulated that I wasn't sure which way our bedroom faced until I realized that the sunrise was my first vision in the morning. I would have guessed we were facing west otherwise. Chris and Larry should be proud of their house and the atmosphere that prevails. We managed to get nearly all of our Christmas cards written and addressed while we hung out most of the day Saturday. We met several of the other guests and had nice conversations during breakfasts which were delicious! Produced with love from Chris, the food was so filling that we skipped lunch both mornings that we had breakfast. No doubt, the price is not inexpensive but the value is definitely there.

This was our first time visiting Murphys and we're fortunate to have snatched a room at the Courtwood Inn. Chris and Larry (the owners) went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. First, Chris helped me book the only room that allows dogs (Davis cup room). She spoke with the other couple and upgraded their stay so we can bring our dog with us. They also accommodated our late check-in and cooked the perfect breakfast. They gifted our pup Kirby with a new plush toy, which he truly enjoyed playing with. The room is perfect-- Bed is very comfy, room is clean, had more than enough towels, and of course ready with dog bowls, blanket and doggie bags. The property and the view is gorgeous and is a short dive (4mins) to Main St where all the cute shops and restaurants are. They have tennis courts at the property too- I believe it's free to use, you just have to sign-up at the front desk. Downtown is nice and there are nice restaurants to eat at. We're definitely going back for a longer stay. Everything during our stay is perfect; Chris and Larry are exceptional.

Lovely views and great location for golf and tennis. Very warm and welcoming owners of this beautiful log chalet bed and breakfast.

What a gem. This B&B is super cute with a lot of tennis themed decor, offers a daily hh with wine and cheese, a daily homemade breakfast that is both hearty and delicious, and all the modern amenities and a gorgeous view from the deck of the comfortable and super clean room. Highly recommended for anyone who would like a truely relaxing experience. We would love to come back when it was cold enough for the fireplace to be on!

We were greeted by this marvelous surprise when we entered our room!

My hubby and I scooted out of town for our anniversary and in the midst of Covid, CourtWood Inn is especially a gem! Sparkling clean and sanitized, it's not only a tennis player's delight but a wonderful getaway! Endearingly, an anniversary surprise greeted us when we entered our suite. Owners and tennis professionals, Chris and Larry Parker, have created a most lovely and welcoming bed and breakfast lodge. Authentic tennis memorabilia is artfully displayed, and in fact, Larry played doubles at the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon! Chris whips up an absolutely delicious breakfast each morning, served at 9:00am. We felt quite spoiled as we leisurely sat on the deck, savoring every bite and admired the forest view. A perfect way to start the day! 5:30pm is wine and cheese and Chris prepares a yummy dessert, too. I highly suggest you sign up for both of these options. There are an abundance of wineries nearby and Chris had suggested the nearby Val du Vino as one that actually made their wine onsite. Owners Jeannine and Jonathon were simply charming and the tasting was creatively unique with wines sampled in bleakers. We bought two bottles of their Petite Rose' - one to enjoy and one to gift. In town, we popped into the Spice Tin (amazing array of every kind of spice imaginable!) and had dinner at Grounds - choose the back patio with mist machines. Excellent recommendations by our hosts. We left CourtWood Inn relaxed and refreshed. Chris and Larry are fabulous hosts and we can't wait to return...and tell family and friends!

Had the pleasure of running away for the night and staying at the Courtwood Inn. Welcomed with smiles and amazing views that don't disappoint. The room was beautiful and comfy, but did I mention the views. Wine and cheese was delicious, but did I mention the views. Chocolate cookies are one way to my heart, but did I mention the views. Breakfast was spectacular and served on the patio, but did I mention the views. I am starting to sense a theme here. Basically, if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and take a moment to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us, combined with personable inn keepers, then this is the place to go.

This bed and breakfast is the most amazing hidden gem in the foothills. The pictures of the view to not do it justice. The couple who run it are so sweet and friendly. I can't wait to return.

There was also coffee in the room and a full coffee/tea bar in the dining area. The facility had a library den full of interesting titles, puzzles, and games. We LOVED the breakfasts. The menu included many choices: french toast, waffle, omelet, potatoes, veggies, eggs to order, bacon, toast, english muffin and fruit. The portions were extremely generous! The staff were all great including owner Michael who was very attentive to questions we had. We've also stayed at another of his properties (The Victoria Inn) which was also lovely. We definitely plan to be back and I can hardly wait! While we were in the area we ate at Jesus' Restaurant (Mexican across the street), Firewood (delicious pizza), and coffee at Aria. We also enjoyed hard cider at Indigeny Reserve! I definitely recommend staying at the Dunbar!

This place is a cozy, green oasis in one of the cutest towns in America, and the value is incredible. They let us have the run of the place for the whole weekend while we hosted and set up. The staff made it feel like home -- such kind and lovely people. Breakfast for our wedding party was included. Anything we asked for, they made it happen, and we were able to control every aspect of the event: bar, catering, etc. Another perk I didn't anticipate was a 360 view of the venue from the bridal suite, which allowed me to keep an eye on everything while I was getting ready. The suite is basically an apartment, with a full kitchen we were able to cater our rehearsal dinner out of. Most of our guests were able to stay the weekend and walk to the venue from their hotels (they make it easy with their sister hotel the Victoria Inn and associated rentals). Our wedding was a dream that we're sad to wake up from. If this place calls to you, do not hesitate to book.
