TLDR: Mike and his team made the whole process of switching out my main electric panel such a breeze. They were on time, great at communicating to set the correct expectations, and overall SO easy to work with. I would go with Courtesy Electric for any and all future electric works around my house. My house had a very outdated and dangerous main panel (the recalled FPE one--yikes), so my partner and I wanted to get it replaced. This house previously had a pool, so we had underground cables instead of overhead lines. This alone was the reason multiple electricians declined the project, as it required coordination with PG&E to determine whether they were willing to install a new overhead cable. Mike came out to assess the situation and voiced similar concerns as other electricians. However, he was curious and willing to work with PG&E to find a solution. He scheduled and handled everything with PG&E without even taking payment upfront (in case PG&E declined) and kept me updated throughout the process. He also helped schedule inspection appointments with the city so we could obtain the proper permits, and explained in detail why and what was being done. Last Saturday, half of our kitchen appliances (including our invaluable microwave oven) quit working after we turned on an electric kettle. I suspected we had blown a circuit, so I checked the breaker box, but didn't see any of them flipped. I ended up resting all of them to no avail. I gave up and called Courtesy Electric. I spoke to Mike, who asked a few questions, then told me he could be there in 30 minutes. He arrived as on time and inspected the kitchen outlets and appliances. He then inspected the circuit breaker panel. All along, he told me what he was doing to diagnose the problem. He ended up taking apart a couple of the kitchen outlets to find faulty (old) wiring connectors. He showed me the problem, replaced the connectors, and the outlet. He was done in an hour. I lost power to my GFCI/GFI outlet under the sink, to which my disposal unit was connected. It was super easy to set up appointment with Mike. His rates were competitive, but the reason I decided to go with Mike because he was knowledgeable, courteous, and professional over the phone. He gave me a 2 hour ETA window and showed up on time. He was able to quickly identify the issue and fix it. A few days later, I lost power on the same outlet. I called Mike and he called back within an hour. We contacted Courtesy Electric and talked to Mike when we were considering buying an electric vehicle and needed an estimate for installing an EV charger in our garage. The situation is complicated since we live in a multi-family building. Mike talked to me in detail on the phone, asked questions, provided a lot of helpful information, and requested photos of our panel. He then arranged to visit our building for an estimate. Mike took the time to explain the constraints in our multi-family building and how that interacts with code requirements, permits, and load limits. We understand our options clearly after talking with him. We offered to pay him a service fee for all the time he spent with us, but Mike let us know the estimate is free even if we don't move forward. Ultimately we decided not to move forward with the EV charger project based on his advice and explanations. A few years ago Mike set up a separate dedicated 20A circuit to accommodate my new treadmill's power requirements. Just recently he replaced a dilapidated fluorescent kitchen fixture in my old house with a modern, stylish LED fixture. Right off the bat, I recommend a name change for Courtesy Electric. Above and Beyond seems a bit more fitting but still doesn't capture the phenomenal service and expertise. I found myself facing a power issue, also presenting a potential safety concern if not resolved asap, on a Sunday afternoon, with no idea what to do to fix the issue after trying a couple things on my own. After just a few minutes of leaving a message in hopes of getting some help, Mike called back with an unexpected willingness to help immediately. Mike can do what other electricians can't. I need to replace a faulty GFCI. thought it's an easy job that I could DIY. Unfortunately I found out the bottom part of the outlet was blocked by granite backsplash. Before contacting courtesy electric I contacted two other electricians and sent a photo of the GFCI, but both of them said they couldn't do the job. I called Mike and explained the situation, he said he could pull the GFCI out. He showed up at my door after 30 minutes. Prior to contacting Courtesy I had reached out to several electricians on Yelp who had great reviews, but they were either too pricey or unreceptive.
