I was up for my BLS renewal and googled places around the Austin area to get certified. I found and…read moresigned up with Life Sustaining Training center because it was located in south Austin. I signed up on the website. There are class times available 1-2 times a week. You can also do all your training online and come into the center to get checked off on the skills portion. I may consider that next time when my time is not as flexible. Note that Life Sustaining Training offers other courses like PALS, ACLS and CPR. Jessica was my instructor and the class was a total of three students including myself. The class consisted of instruction and information given by Jessica and a video. The students had to be able to demonstrate what we have learned on a mannequin for the skills portion. The mannequins are actually higher quality than I have ever practiced on which was a refreshing change. They had sensors on them to gauge if you are doing chest compressions correctly. Overall a great class, great location, and easy to sign up.

However, once I completed the hands on portion, they requested I email my online course completion certificates so I could get my ecards. I am still sitting here 2 weeks and multiple phone calls later waiting for my ecards indicating course completion. It is holding me up from moving on to my next job assignment. Covid guidelines are in place mask required and gloves are provided. - Instructor, Joyce is very friendly and knowledgeable about what information and skills that need to be known. She makes you feel welcomed and comfortable, you can always ask questions and feel comfortable doing so. - Classes are small which is nice to allow one on one instructing. You really feel like you've learned something when you walk out. -I did the 9am to 11 time slot, its very prompt and timely. I show up to the class and was instantly welcomed by Joyce (the instructor) who has the most upbeat and professional demeanor. She greeted me, oriented me to the space and offered me some light refreshments. Ok, now my mood is changing and I'm a little less grouchy about taking a mandated class. A gracious host and snacks will will quickly turn my mood around, ha. Alright, let's talk class content and instructional blocks. The bulk of the class will come from a DVD and Joyce. The video is great. It seems the American heart association has delivered up to date and interesting content for your review. You won't be watching some vhs from the 80s with outdated procedures. Joyce supplements the video with great narratives and practical hands on experiences. She articulates well and is very easy to follow. I imagine that she is able to reach all of her students regardless of intellectual, academic or professional backgrounds. She's enthused about her work and it shows. Joyce was accountable for our time during the class, followed her agenda and was able to wrap up the course at the designated time. Most importantly, I left the class confident in my ability to administer life saving care should I be in a position that warrants it. Highly recommended.
