I was up for my BLS renewal and googled places around the Austin area to get certified. I found and signed up with Life Sustaining Training center because it was located in south Austin. I signed up on the website. There are class times available 1-2 times a week. You can also do all your training online and come into the center to get checked off on the skills portion. I may consider that next time when my time is not as flexible. Note that Life Sustaining Training offers other courses like PALS, ACLS and CPR. Jessica was my instructor and the class was a total of three students including myself. The class consisted of instruction and information given by Jessica and a video. The students had to be able to demonstrate what we have learned on a mannequin for the skills portion. The mannequins are actually higher quality than I have ever practiced on which was a refreshing change. They had sensors on them to gauge if you are doing chest compressions correctly. I was sent the online portion of the ACLS and BLS renewal courses right away. I had to indicate which hands on course I wanted to go in for. No issues there. However, once I completed the hands on portion, they requested I email my online course completion certificates so I could get my ecards. I am still sitting here 2 weeks and multiple phone calls later waiting for my ecards indicating course completion. It is holding me up from moving on to my next job assignment. Every time I call, the receptionist states the same thing, "I told him to sign them. You'll get them. I promise." Lady, I'm still waiting! read more

Came here a few weeks ago for CPR training (BLS) for nursing school. I followed the directions to get here but with traffic in the morning coming from RR/Georgetown area it took me 1.5 hrs to get here and that was with taking the toll road. This location and the previous location were both hard to find. TIP: to find it, its in the pink bldg. but has a separate entrance in the back. Do not use the front entrance. Class: pretty quick. goes as fast as is possible. It was more pleasure-able this go round than it was last time with Seth. I don't recall the guy that taught the class this go round but he was a funny guy. read more

I went to renew my BLS for nursing school. I took the early class (8:30 AM - 1 PM). Let me just say that this class didn't feel long at all! We had such an awesome instructor (Adele), he definitely made the time fly by. He taught us a little more than we needed to know, but that was GREAT! I really enjoyed the small class size. The place was kind of hidden, so make sure you give yourself a good amount of time to find the place. =) If you're looking to renew your BLS or any other certification they provide, I HIGHLY recommend signing up with Life Sustaining Training. If you need an ACLS certification then this is the place to go. I'm a travel nurse who needed an ACLS certification for my next assignment. I was a little intimidated about passing the certification,because I can't read an ECG to save my life and know little about ACLS drugs. Seth and Robert put those fears to rest. They were great instructors and presented the material in an easy to understand fashion. You could tell they knew ACLS inside and out. They both have tons of experience and have been in the medical field for a long time as RN's. They teach you only what you need to know and I picked up the information pretty quick. Having to set aside time to renew your BLS may not be your cup of tea, but Cynthia Jones makes this class fly by and enjoyable. Her energy and humor make spending four hours in a classroom on a Saturday morning not half bad. Be sure to give yourself a little time getting there as it is on the northbound side of I-35 and there is no designated turn-around lane on the frontage road and the light takes a while to cycle through. Overall the class was very informative and Cynthia Jones really knows her stuff. We spent a lot of time with the mannequins for hand-on training, which makes sense to practice and practice to ensure your skills are there when you need to use them. We were provided a book (purchased through the website beforehand) that we referenced and were allowed to take with us. There is a test at the end of the class that you must get all the questions correct on, so be sure to pay attention! read more

I had to get a CPR/AED training for a new job. I found this place through LivingSocial and made a class reservation. I came in and met the instructor, Robert, who told me I'd be the only student going through the 3 hour training that night. First of all, I thought it was really awesome that instead of canceling the training due to low attendance he just went ahead with it, which ended up in me getting out about an hour early. The training was pretty straightforward - watch a video, work with the instructor, demo on a mannequin. Robert was very helpful, answered all my questions (however off topic or ridiculous they were), and I came out feeling confident and like I had actually spent a worthwhile two hours, when I had come in just wanting to pass the certification for my job. Even without the Living Social deal it seems like the price (at least for the CPR/AED training) was pretty reasonable. read more

This is my second time taking my ACLS/BLS renewals with Life Sustaining Training and the experience is always hands down. I remember moving down to Texas just after graduation from PA school and taking my course here was a great experince even as a nervous new grad. Two years later, I went back, and was actually EXCITED for the renewal because I knew that the class would be an enjoyable experience. As many ACLS takers know, it is a stressful course at times with the Megacodes and EVERYONE at Life Sustaining Training makes it a pleasant experience. I always use Life Sustaining Training for my recertification of PALS and ACLS. I'm a RN in the ER. The instructors make it a laid back atmosphere and are very helpful. I usually do the heartsaver course online and go do my check off at the classroom with the instructor. the classes are usually small and not intimidating. read more

I needed a BLS certification at the last moment and Life Sustaining Training was the perfect option -- they were cheaper than the other places I looked, had a very dependable schedule (every Wednesday and Saturday), AND are an approved AHA training site. Robert was great. He has been in healthcare for a long while -- I remember him specifically mentioning being an EMT. He went through every step with us, and he made sure the skills check at the end was super chill. As mentioned, the CPR models were very modern -- you would see a double green light when you were performing the CPR correctly. The class is nice because you learn various ways on how to perform CPR -- by yourself, with another person, in a group, with and without and AED, on an adult, on a child, on a baby... the list goes on. And it's perfect. I honestly feel I could react quickly and efficiently in an emergency situation. Definitely recommend and will be coming back when my certification is up in two years. :) read more

I learned of Life Sustaining Training through a Living Social deal to take the American Heart Association CPR/AED certified training class. I learned so much at this class. There was a perfect amount of instruction and practice to give one the sense of what it may feel like to actually deliver CPR in an emergency situation. I hope I never have to use these skills, but I feel confident in my ability to be of help in the situation that someone around me has a cardiac arrest. I plan on taking the first aid class as soon as I can. read more

I took BLS class with Robert today. I had no idea a CPR class can be so much fun! You will learn a lot, you will enjoy it, and you will walk out empowered. Robert worked as a paramedic for 2 years and as an ICU nurse for 7 years, so he has a lot of good examples. He gives you great ideas on how to remember everything. He is very forthcoming with giving rationale behind each step, this way you'll know why something has to be done a certain way. I will come back for more advanced classes, not because I have to, but because I want to learn more. read more

Cynthia Jones is AMAZING! I have taken numerous other CPR classes and none of them have compared. She loves what she does and it shows. She has high energy and makes this class fun. Although we have to watch videos per AHA she makes sure you get lots of 1:1 time with the manikins and truly understand. She makes sure everyone is well prepared for a real life emergency and of course prepares you to pass the test. Cynthia Jones was my instructor and she made the class go by with her fun ways to remember everything. She had us perform compressions for the full cycle, and today I am feeling it. I appreciate her having us actually perform the movements and not just go through the motions, which I have had in previous BLS courses. She was great at answering questions and at communicating with the class. I recently took AHA BLS CPR training here, and I had a really good experience! I was running a bit late due to construction and Robert gave me a call to see if I was ok. They waited for me to start and that was really nice of them. I really liked the technology that they used. It was up-to-date and the facilities/materials were clean. The process was very informative and the pace was good. Not too slow and not too fast. We had lots of hands on practice and lots of review, so we were really prepared for the skills test and written test at the end. Cynthia Jones (I believe that's her last name) was the instructor and she did a great job. She was nice, helpful, and funny. They printed up the card after the tests were passed and I was on my way. He is thorough, answers all questions, and has a million awesome accurate facts. He is experienced in many fields of nursing and is very knowledgable. There was only one other person in the class besides myself, so we received a lot of attention and interaction. The fact he did the class with only 2 students is awesome, considering some companies cancel your class. The equipment is awesome, and assures you are doing CPR correctly. I needed to take the BLS for Healthcarw Providers course in order to get certified before going out on full-time clinicals, and I am so glad one of my classmates told me about Life Sustaining Training! Robert taught our class last Saturday morning and made it a fun and comfortable learning environment as he led us through the AHA training videos, oversaw our skills practice, and enthusiastically answered our questions and shared his relevant personal stories. To make it even more pleasant, Robert gave us cold bottled water and candy throughout the class. Then, after passing the skills checkoff and written test, we all walked out with our certification cards right then and there.
