Bagels are easily 9/10. The bagels are really good however, the toppings push them into the 9's. I got the hand sliced smoke salmon on a plain bagel. The bagel comes with cream cheese, salmon, dill, capers, tomato, onion, lemon and olive oil and black pepper. The combination of flavors is ridiculous. Every single ingredient is fresh and high quality. All of the ingredients add something to the bagel and make it a perfect bagel imo. I think this place must fly their tomatoes in straight from Eden, as in the garden. I have never had a fresher, great tasting and beautiful tomato as I did here. I know that's wild to say about something like a tomato but it's the truth. I don't even eat tomatoes in that form, it was the first bite of a sliced tomato I ate in over 20 years. It looked so great I had to try it, especially because I wanted to eat the bagel in its most genuine form. My Wife loves bagels, it is one of her favorite foods. It was her favorite bagel as well. We ended up going here twice. We went on our last day of vacation prior to heading to the airport. I got a plain bagel with butter and honey, WhatKevEats inspired the order. It was also delicious however, not as good as the smoked salmon.
This is my favorite bagel place in La. Their bagels are SO crispy, yet chewy on the inside. I love how the outside of it is a little burnt too which gives it an additional flavor. My favorite out of all of them are the sesame bagels, but the burnt ones are pretty good too. I've had a sandwich here and while they are really really good, I personally feel it's better to just buy the bagel plain and the ingredients (or custom ingredients) and just make them yourself. It's not really that hard. I did that this time. I bought a bunch of bagels, then turned them into breakfast sandwiches. One thing that's random though is every time I'm craving a bagel, it just happens to be on the day they're closed haha. Then I have to remember that I wanted a bagel for the rest of the week and then go. But this time I did!!! I'm so glad I remembered because I absolutely love these bagels. The service here is really good. The ambiance is chill if you sit on the patio. It's nice. I don't usually turn my gps on when I come here though so sometimes I accidentally drive right by it because I miss the yellow umbrella. For some reason I can't remember exactly what street it's on but there's always a bunch of street parking so it's a nice place to go to. I should come here a lot more.
I love bagels, and even though this one was so expensive, it hurt me badly after the currency exchange, I would definitely go again. Courage Bagels is a cute little corner spot with a bumping line even 30 minutes before closing. Despite having just had lunch, my friend and I decided to stop by and pick up some bagels. I ordered the Alaskan roe bagel as well as a plain onion bagel with a side of cream cheese. There is no seating inside, but they have a cute covered outdoor area and a water stand. The bagels are phenomenal. If you go inside to use the washroom, you'll see the fresh bagel-making in action. They have a whole old-fashioned assembly line with the orders hanging from a string. While the texture is crunchy on the outside, the bagel is incredibly soft and chewy on the inside. You can tell these are handmade bagels. My friend enjoyed the roe on a sea salt sesame bagel and said it was tasty and fresh. I found the onion bagel a tad burnt on the outside, but the texture was still amazing. As another review says, yes, I would give them my money again. See you next time, Courage Bagels!
The loose bagel (which is their choice of bagel with cream cheese) is super worth it, at $3.85! Able to get plenty of and like weekly. The super aesthetic salmon lox/protein which is really delicious, is quite pricey, ranges from $19.75 - $26 for full bagels. Able to order half too. Weekend 10AM, 15 minute line to order and another 10 minutes to get bagel. There's only outdoor sitting available, the tables fill up quickly too. Ordered the slice smoked salmon and burnt everything, total is $26.50. The bagel is quite large and has a crunch. The smoked salmon had a some citrus which complimented super well. Overall, would come back to get the loose bagel since that was worth it. The salmon is more so just one time and it's easy to make at home.
The bagels are light and crispy. I wish they put more cream cheese... there was like barely any on there. The tomatoes were super juicy. Came on a Sunday at 9am and there was like a 15-20 min line to order and then another 15 min wait for the food. It was nice they have umbrellas for waiting in line and has a mist spraying machine. There are quite a few tables outside if you want to eat there.
Did I just pay $8.75 for one half of a bagel and thin spread of cream cheese? Yes Would I do it again? 100% I highly recommend keeping it simple. The only acceptable bagel is salted seasoned with the tomato bagel. So simple but so delicious. Every bite was a different dimension. I'll be dreaming about this bagel until the next time. Great customer service. Plenty of outdoor seating.
Excellent bagels! I totally get the hype! By far, the best bagels I've had in LA. I like them even better than Gjusta! I wish this place was located in the South Bay! I will add that I wish they had a bigger space since their sidewalk setup is not really great. I opted to take my food to go and eat it elsewhere. And yes, it is not cheap. Though, the quality and amount of toppings are proportionate to the price.
If you're into fluffy bagels come here! We came in a Saturday and the line wasn't crazy long. Although parking did take a second to find, we enjoyed a nice walk after bagels. The tomato's were perfect, juicy, plump and savory. The bagel itself was fluffy and crispy. If you're a big spread person maybe you can ask for heavy spread as I thought the cream cheese layer was a bit skinny. There's small tables and stools with umbrellas to enjoy your bagels! Cute spot for a quick bite!
Came here because the bagels look similar to Apollo Bagels in NYC. Like Apollo's, they have smoked salmon, whitefish, and tomato bagels, but the bagels are better in NYC. Overall, if i need a bagel fix, I would still come here as the bagels are delicious. There's a lot of outdoor seating but there's also a lot of people. 15 min wait in line, 15 mins to wait for food on a Saturday
I can't believe I haven't written a review for courage bagels yet. This was our favorite bagel spot and go to spot for years as they have great toppings (despite the costs!) they get super busy and there is always a line outside. They do have some tables right out on the side walks, the order window is at the corner and it's fairly easy to order to go
Good Bagels. a little bit less doughy/thick as a NYC bagels. Could use more smear but ingredients and very fresh. I wanted more slices of smoked salmon. I appreciate the open face bagel a lot. Ordered: - Hand Sliced Smoked Salmon - Run it Thru the Garden Both were yummy. I think I prefer the smoked salmon one slightly more but I always love a smoked salmon bagel. We went on a Saturday morning and got there about 5-10 minutes before they opened. Waited about 30 minutes ish before getting our food.
I been here so many times. Best bagel spot in LA. Staff is always friendly and vibes are always good!!!
Okay bagel was 10/10. Toppings were 10/10. Would highly highly recommend coming here and will def be returning. I got run it thru the garden on sesame seed bagel with a cashew smear. Delicious and crispy. Vanilla paste latte with almond milk was perfectly bitter/sweet balanced. My full open face + drink was about $30. To my surprise the line was short Sunday around 10:45am. Able to order quickly, waiting for food wasn't too bad around 15 mins. The person taking orders was super helpful recommending things from the menu (since all sounded so great). There was a good amount of outdoor seating with umbrella to block from the sun but many people were there waiting. Didn't take long for someone to head out to get a seat, so not really a problem but could be worse if it's a super busy time.
oh my! i truly understand the hype of this place! this is one of these spots that live up to the reputation- it can really get busy and the line can wrap up around the building during rush times which ideally if you go right when they open you can avoid the long lines. i ordered the "simply delicious" with no capers and oh boyyy! has to be the BEST lox bagel i've had. the bagel is thin but very crispy and crunchy almost like a crispy bagel/croissant mix. i would highly recommend!! read more
A good friend of mine in L.A. was super excited to take me to Courage Bagels because it's one of her fave spots to get bagels, but mostly to show me how popular and hyped it is. The line was, indeed, long on a Monday morning! We ordered both the smoked salmon options. I appreciate how pretty they look, especially the hand sliced one with red onion and fresh dill gracing the top of the orangey pink-colored smoked salmon like delicate artwork. We're lucky in Seattle because we aren't short of a wide variety and styles of bagels. They might not look as pretty as Courage Bagels', but I feel the hype is not real. It's good, but I can count on my one hand a number of bagel places that cost less and taste better. Nice try! ;-) read more
4.5/5 stars! came on a sunday afternoon around 1:30pm. line wasn't too long and the bagels came out in 25 minutes. there's little tables with tiny stools to sit outside and a water station. we ordered 2 hand sliced smoked salmon 1/2 bagel and 1 run it through the garden 1/2 bagel. both were very tasty but i liked the garden bagel more because of all the fresh veggies. if i were to order the salmon again i would ask for extra veggies or see if they could add cucumber to it as well. for the 3 half bagels the total came out to $35 not including tip. overall, tasty and would perhaps come back if in the area. read more

read more
We came on a Monday slightly before closing and the line was still pretty long. The wait time was not that bad and luckily a table cleared up for us but it was still quite busy. I have to say that the bagel itself was personally one of my favorite bagels. It isn't very doughy but rather thin and crispy. The sesame bagel was really good. Perfectly crispy texture which paired really well with the cashew spread which was very mildly flavored and had such a creamy texture. The hand sliced salmon bagel did not live up to its expectations in my opinion. It wasn't unique, it lacked some acidity to it, the salmon was not particularly good and the overall flavor didn't quite come together. Other less hyped up places have a much better take on this simple bagel. The tomato was also not properly salted. The seasoning could have helped but there was very little of it. I would also avoid getting the everything burnt bagel just because there is no acidity to this dish so the Burt flavor is just extra saltiness. The simply perfect or simply something bagel was similar to this. I would also avoid the everything burnt bagel for that one. I would come again for a plain bagel and maybe try another spread but the salmon bagels are just not really worth it, especially since they are not cheap either. I do appreciate you can only get half a bagel. The place itself is quite nice and the service is efficient. They have some tables and chairs outside and the food comes out at a smooth rate. read more

I tried courage bagels nearly a year ago and didn't enjoy my experience. It was a long wait and my order was wrong. I thought it could have been an off day and tried again today. The bagel is mid/overpriced and the wait is crazy. Even with a short line today we received one half bagel and drink then had to wait another 30 mins for the other half bagel. Staff have the worst attitude but I probably would too if i had to deal with nonstop customers. Strictly for the hype and not the food, which you can tell based on the lack of diversity in patrons despite the location. read more
We came on a Saturday around noon and the line really wasn't bad at all. I was expecting way worse. You order at the window, super easy. There's no indoor seating, just some tables off to the side. I can already tell it probably gets pretty warm out there in the summer. I ordered the Hottie, it comes with butter, and I added honey on a sesame bagel. When I tell you it was so good... fresh out of the oven, warm, soft, perfect. If I had even a little more room left, I'd be back in line for another one. But I'm officially full. My friend got a fully loaded bagel, I believe it's called Run it to the Garden, she loved it but she wanted a little more olive oil. Any time I'm close, I want to be sure I stop by. read more

Went on a Friday at 12pm and there was a super short line (~5 min). As others have mentioned there is very limited outdoor stool seating. Took about ~15 min to actually get our bagels once we ordered. But worth every second!!!! These are sooo crunchy yet soft on the inside, packed with fresh toppings and incredible flavor. The smear is good (though they could add a bit more). Really, really good. 10/10. They are pricey read more
i went on friday 11am and waited in line only for ~5 min and got my order within 10 min. they will bring the bagels directly to you at the tables. they offer umbrellas for you to use while you wait in line which is a nice detail. there is only outdoor seating, but it's within the shade of umbrellas which is nice during the la summer. the bagels are fresh and crispy. they do taste unique, but not out of this world. run it through the garden (vegetarian) - it tastes refreshing, and the bagel, spread, and toppings harmonize well with one another. it's very balanced; not too heavy or too light with the toppings. hand sliced smoked salmon - it felt kind of plain compared to the garden bagel since it had less vegetable toppings (though understandable, since the salmon was the key ingredient here) it's an OK spot. the bagel was good, but i wouldn't come again, nor would this be a spot i'd recommend to friends, considering the high price point-- a salmon bagel is already $13.25 for half and $21.50 for whole! free parking in residential area read more

It was Bieberchella weekend so I took advantage of that and came to Courage Bagels in hopes of a shorter line. I came around 10 AM on a Sunday and waited about 10 minutes to order and another 10 for food, which is not bad! I had the "Kevin" which is on a secret menu that isn't posted. It consisted of salmon, roe, and dill. The taste was delicious and very filling, but expensive ($30). It was good to just try it though! Tricky parking & limited outdoor seating only. read more
Their bagels and toppings are high quality and superior taste. I've reviewed Courage several times. My opinions about their food and their iced cappuccino remain the same. Get in line. Order. Pay. Wait for your name to be called. Grab a tiny table and stool, if possible. If not, enjoy in your car, or at home. The ambiance is not why you go. Parking is difficult. Staff can be a bit curt. Not always, but sometimes. The food keeps us coming back. read more
Had to stop to try one of their bagel and was not disappointed. It definitely was not a cheap one but so worth it. You order at a window and they bring it out when it is ready. They have some tables and stools set up outside for you to enjoy your quick bite. read more
Super cute and trendy bagel spot in Silverlake. The parking situation was a little bit difficult, and we ended up parking along the street near the LACC Parking Lot, around an eight minute walk from the shop. There was a pretty long line of around 10-12 people, but a worker came down the line and took our orders on paper to make the process move faster. The storefront is relatively small, with no indoor seating but several small tables and benches for outdoor dining. They do have a restroom inside with some merch to purchase, but there's no photos allowed inside. We were able to find a seat around five minutes after ordering, and sat at the table waiting for around 20 minutes to receive our bagels. We ordered 3 halves to try as many different flavors as we could. We ordered the cream cheese with tomato on the burnt everything, salmon on the sesame bagel, and the run it through the garden on the onion bagel. The worker was super nice in recommending flavors and corresponding bagel pairings since it was our first time here. They also had several exclusive bagels, like a cheese one and a sweet option with almond butter that looked really good. My only complaint is that it is quite pricey, especially for the amount of food you got. Our total ended up being around $33 for the 3 halves of the bagel we got. The bagels themselves were very good. Our favorite was the cream cheese with tomato - the burnt everything complimented the flavors really well and added a satisfying crunch, and the tomatoes and cream cheese had contrasting acidity and freshness that balanced amazingly. The salmon bagel was a classic as well - they definitely load up each bagel with a lot of dill and capers which we weren't really a fan of. The run it through the garden was more on the messy side, with almost too many components. Again, a lot of dill and capers, and the cucumbers and tomatoes lost some of their freshness when mixing with the cream cheese and warm bagel. That one was not our favorite but it still has unique components and tastes. Overall, I'd recommend this shop. They have super unique bagel flavors, which are definitely very Instagram worthy. The weather was nice when we visited so it was perfect for the outdoor seating. Worth a try! read more
There's always been a long line every time I've visited, but once you try their bagels, it's easy to understand why that's the case. The bagel itself acts more like a vehicle for the toppings, which allow the all the flavors to really shine through. My personal favorite is the white fish bagel, but honestly they don't miss with any of their menu items. Seating is out door and first come serve, so takes a bit of patience to snag a table since they're always so busy. read more
I liked Courage Bagels so much, I've been back twice in 3 days. Lucky me, I've been able to work my way through a lot of their menu (with friend assistance) and just love it. I had heard the bagels were the best in the city---better than New York even! How could such a place in East Hollywood exist, I questioned!? It simply can't be! But alas world, you were right, I was wrong. Courage Bagels is the best in LA. Insert a cliche review line questioning why I waited so long to go here, please. Now at Courage Bagels, you'll always be met with a line but I only waited 20 minutes on a Saturday morning to order and then on a Monday around 10am I had no wait to order. Saturday morning moved fast, they were taking your order while in line to keep things speedy, so then once at the register they just rang you in. After ordering, drinks come out first and fast, which is very nice so you can sip while waiting. That being said, their drinks have all been mid that I've tried - the Mexican Mexican Heirloom Hot Cacao, Hojicha Latte, iced coffee and Vanilla Paste Latte. Next time, I'm trying one of their juices! Those look legit! Now after ordering and sipping on your drinks, it could take some time for the food to come out. I saw someone complain after waiting 20 minutes today, but that is totally normal here. Both times I've gone now it took about 30 minutes for the food to come out, so just keep that in mind and keep yourself busy while waiting. They have a few tables for old people like myself to sit & wait or enjoy their meal. Now onto the eats, the Simply Delicious is my #1 stunna and it's just as it's name says. A burnt everything bagel is nicely topped with cream cheese, capers, olive oil, pepper, lemon and a healthy serving of salmon on top. I want this every.single.time. i'm at Courage. The Cave Cheddar touts it's great return apparently, with a sign saying "It's back!!!" on the side of the building. On a dark toasted sea salt bagel, topped with tons of bandaged cheddar cheese, freshly sliced tomatoes, olive oil, sea salt and wild oregano - it's another banger. The Roe! ~ you must add the exclamation mark in its name~ has a thick layer of Wild Alaskan Salmon Roe on top of a generous cream cheese topping, some dill, and some onion. This is the most expensive combo on their menu clocking in at $26 for a full size portion, but if you love little fish eggs, this'll have you in Heaven. I truly enjoyed this but honestly liked the Simply Delicious better for my salmon fix. And then, a bit more basic but another favorite of mine - the Crunchy California. It comes with almond Butter and Sqirl Strawberry Rose Geranium Jam for a nice PB&J style bagel. I like this one a lot because you can really see just how good the bagel is. Their bagels are seriously other worldly with an almost mochi-like texture to them. I've never had such a chewy interior on a bagel, let alone one with such a contrasting crispy exterior. Without all the thickness of traditional NYC bagels, I really think these more Montreal-style bagels are the bees' knees. Y'all, they are magical. Would it be weird if I go a third time in a week? They aren't open Tuesdays or Wednesdays so plan accordingly! read more
Almost turned around cuz of the line but honestly it went super fast and it was worth it. I got the Salmon Roe half and a half Smoked Salmon bagel and omg I get the hype. The Salmon roe was my favorite, the bagel had the perfect amount of crunch which added texture to soft ingredients. It was just the perfect amount of salty and creamy with the roe and cream cheese. The smoked salmon was delicious too, although the roe did steal the show for me. I also got a vanilla paste latte and the limeade but the drinks were not my favorite. The limeade was too bitter and although there was a lot of vanilla In the latte, it didn't really come through. But the bagels were so good I'm still going to give it 5 star. This place also has a nice vibe. Plenty of outdoor seating. read more
Courage Bagels offers the best bagel sandwiches in Southern California, and the lines reflect it. I arrived at 8:40am on Sunday morning with a line down the street. Parking was impossible and I had my wife drop me off. At the end of the long line, you put in your order for their bagel sandwiches at a window in the wall. Everything on the menu is thoughtfully constructed and well-balanced. Their Hand Sliced Smoked Salmon comes on top of a nicely toasted bagel, with a light spreading of cream cheese, a freshly ripened heirloom tomato, red onion, capers for salinity, dill for freshness, lemon, pepper, and a liberal pour of olive oil. The sum of the parts is greater than each of the perfectly chosen ingredients. If you don't like salmon, you can get their vegetarian version, which basically subs the salmon for cucumber. My wife likes this vegetarian version, which is incredibly refreshing and crisp. This visit, we went with two of their specials. They had a "cave cheddar", which had their toasted bagel that was topped with a generous portion of funky, hard cheddar, tomato, oregano, olive oil, and sea salt. It doesn't sound like a lot of things, but they flawlessly dress the flavors to make it taste complete. We also got their "Crunchy California", which was basically a sesame bagel, that was topped with almond butter and strawberry-geranium jam, which was sweet and got nice nutty and roasted flavors from the almond butter and sesame seeds. We often take our food to go as parking can be challenging; however, they do have sidewalk seating with 14 small two-tops. It's too far for me to come back regularly and parking can be very challenging; however, we always love coming back when we plan to come to this part of LA/Silverlake/Echo Park read more

This place had been on my list of places to try for a while so I was excited to finally try it! We parked a couple blocks away in the neighborhood. We knew where the bagel spot was based on where the huge line was outside. Not only was there a huge line of people waiting to order, but a large group of people waiting for tables to open up. I went when it was probably peak time - late morning on a weekend. They have a hand-written menu taped up on the glass, but it's been the same menu for a while I believe. I love that you can order halves and wholes of bagels so you can try a variety. You order at the counter, you can't go inside nor is there indoor seating. We got a whole of the Hand Sliced Smoked Salmon on an everything bagel. Then we got a half of the Roe! Wild Alaskan Salmon Roe on a sea salt sesame bagel and half of Run it Through the Garden on sea salt sesame. We're dairy-free and they luckily do have a cashew cream cheese option, but it's $2.50 extra for every half that you order. So our total came out to over $50 which for a total of two whole bagels is pretty astronomically high. They have tables off to the side and it's up to you to pounce on a table when one opens up. They call your name when your bagels are ready and bring it out to you. The presentation of everything was beautiful, very photo-worthy. The Smoked Salmon bagel was definitely the best one of the bunch. It's good but it's also not incredible? It's a pretty standard lox bagel. At least they don't skimp on the amount of smoked salmon. The run it through the garden had fresh veg ingredients that would make any vegetarian happy, but I'd pass on this next time. For those who like salmon roe, you'd like the roe bagel. The bagels themselves are quite crispy and not overly doughy, so if you're into that, this place is your jam. They also hardly put any cream cheese on the bagels, I thought they could all use a bit more. Overall, ingredients tasted good and fresh and it doesn't make you feel heavy at all. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, and it's good - don't get me wrong - but is it worth over $50? Nah... Just make sure you carve out enough time to come here because there will be a wait. read more

Finally got a chance to try the famous Courage Bagels! Stopped by on a Monday morning and there was a short line which moved quickly. You order at the window and they'll call your name when your order is ready. You can buy the bagels whole or half. I got the hand sliced smoked salmon with burnt everything (everything bagel that's slightly more toasted) and it was sooo delicious - it perfectly hit the spot. The bagel was perfectly chewy with the perfect crunch on the outside, and the salmon was thin and delightful. Everything about it was just so well balanced. They have small tables and chairs with umbrellas outside for seating. Street/neighborhood parking only. Will certainly find myself back soon! read more
Pretty good bagels due to the toppings. I tried a piece without anything just to see how great it was, and honestly it wasn't the "best bagel" I've ever had. New York still has my heart in that category. $40 for 2 bagels is kind of wild, but don't get me wrong, it's tasty. Again, with toppings. Don't come here and get a plain bagel. read more
I have been meaning to try this place for a while now but the line has just been too long every time I passed by. On a Thursday morning around 9:30 AM, I was determined to try Courage and prepared myself to wait in line. Luckily, there was no wait yay! I got the salmon lox on the everything burnt bagel and now I understand why people line up for this place. The burnt everything was the perfect choice and the bagel was very flavorful and everything just paired well. This place is definitely expensive but it was very delicious. Would I wait over an hour for this? Probably not, but I would definitely return to try their other bagels! My boyfriend got the same but with their vegan/cashew cream cheese and it tasted practically identical to regular cream cheese. read more

Does a whole bagel come as two open-faced halves? In other words, if two people want to try half each of two kinds of bagels can we order two wholes and share or do we need to order four halves?
Yes. Bagel sandwiches are open faced
Do they make or sell gluten-free bagels?
Not that I have seen and I was there less than a month ago. I would love it if they did though.
Is there a long line at 7 AM on weekdays?
No line at 7:30 or 8 when I've stopped by. About 20 min wait for your food.
How much are half dozen? And how much are dozen bagels? Is there a set price? Or does it differ? Can cream cheese he purchased ? Or is it better to get the cream cheese at a store?
Maybe this will help Hane- https://couragebagels.com/new-page And, look at the bottom right-hand side of the menu. 2 loose bagels per customer!!
Is there a limit on how many sandwiches someone can order? I'm willing to stand in line EARLY to bring home breakfast for my family - but don't want to get there to find out it's 1 per person!
I've never got the vibe that there was a limit, but things do sell out (specific bagels, etc)...
Do they have the roe bagel? They said it was out of season when I went a few months ago...thanks!
Yup. It's back. Check out their Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/courage_bagels/p/CUQn114vplz/?utm_medium=copy_link
Is there a time when it is less busy on the weekend?
Probably better to line up in the morning, though everyone orders more then so it goes slower. 730am Sat was 10+ deep.
By what time do they sell out on sunday?
That's a difficult question to answer. Depends on the crowds.
