I'm grateful that places like this exist in LA. Modern bread and bagel offers a good variety of gluten-free options, making it one of the restaurants that I would suggest for my gluten-free friends. I just picked up Too Good To Go order from them, and I gotta say I was impressed. For $10 I ended up getting 10 pastries and baked goods. The box was heavy when the server handed it to me see photo. I could see ordering one of these for a party or a breakfast event that you may have. I tried the pumpkin cinnamon roll. It was just OK, and maybe that's because of some of the gluten-free substitutions. I didn't like it as much as I thought, but it may be better once it's heated up and I ate it room temperature.
1 Star -- Absolutely Disgusting. Unacceptable Cleanliness. I am honestly shocked by the condition of Modern Bread & Bagel at The Village in Topanga. This is easily one of the dirtiest restaurants I have visited in a long time. From where I was sitting, I could see a disturbing amount of grease buildup in the kitchen area, giving the impression that it hadn't been properly cleaned in ages. The floors were absolutely filthy, with layers of grime that looked like months of accumulated dirt. Dirty dishes were left sitting around, with nobody bothering to clear them. This isn't just a matter of a busy restaurant falling behind on cleaning. The level of neglect I observed was genuinely appalling. For an establishment that prepares and serves food, basic hygiene should be the absolute minimum. What I witnessed made me seriously question the cleanliness of the food preparation environment. Absolutely unacceptable, disgusting, and extremely disappointing. Management needs to address this immediately. I would not recommend this location to anyone in its current condition.
stopped by Modern Bread to try their strawberry glaze donut, cinnamon cake , lemonade and coconut matcha . My kids enjoyed the donuts and cinnamon cake. I enjoyed the coconut matcha very refreshing. the restaurant is clean and organized. the staff is friendly.
Been meaning to try this place! We frequently visit the Village but this is mostly a breakfast place so they close early. The times we were there were in the evening and never got to try it till this past weekend! The vibes of this place is absolutely beautiful! Love the garden chairs/seating outside and the beautiful inside. The bagels are all on the wall which makes it look very beautifully presented. I got an everything bagel with regular cream cheese and an iced cinnamon bun latte. My bf got the super seed bagel with strawberry cream cheese and a raspberry matcha latte. We sat outside and our food and drinks came out so quickly! Love how loaded they make the bagels with the cream cheese, just the way I like it. The drinks were great as well and not as sweet as it sounds! Such a great breakfast spot and would definitely love to come back! IG: @ammysalamii
Nice place for breakfast with a relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly, the prices were reasonable, and the food was very good. I had the grilled salmon salad with lettuce, avocado, and cucumber. It was fresh, healthy, and really tasty. My wife had the avocado toast. It wasn't a big portion, but it looked great and tasted good. We came after our workout for breakfast and really enjoyed it. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is the cleanliness. I understand it's hard to keep everything clean when a restaurant is busy, but this time the place was almost empty. There were food crumbs on the floor around our table and some tables still had leftovers on them. It wasn't very pleasant while eating. I'll probably come back because the food is worth it. If the restaurant is cleaner next time, I'd be happy to give it more stars.
Massively disappointed. I had Modern Bread and Bagel saved in my Yelp saves for a while. I found myself nearby and decided to bring home a treat. I picked up the cinnamon roll slice and the strawberry donut. Both were ultra dense and flavorless, save for the frosting. Not sweet, not savory, just completely bland. We won't be returning.

I ordered a cinnamon bun latte and a matcha. Unfortunately both were a huge miss. My latte was not sweet at all despite all of the sugar and cold foam. I'm sure it was added to it. I love a creative, sugary creation but this just tasted like milk with (I hope) a splash of espresso. However, the look inside was so cozy, music was the perfect volume, and additional sugar, condiments, and napkins ( anything you might need) was stocked, clean, and readily accessible. However, I cannot recommend what is unfortunately one of their advertised, signature creations.
I really like Modern Bread and Bagel. Been a few times before, but 1st time reviewing. Admittedly it's not cheap (which keeps me from binging on the baked goods) and not exactly next door, which keeps me in check as well. Was feeling indulgent so I went with the special stuffed pastrami Smoked salmon bagel - basically a warmed up pull apart bagel stuffed with smoked salmon, cream cheese, green onions - heavenly. I got the latke tots as well to round out my carb fest - they are good, little latkes dusted with parmesan and chives with alioi to dip in. Yeah, that was a lot. Maybe I'll go back to my regular Smoked salmon bagel or eggs next time.
As a celiac, this place is heaven. I always come for their baked goods! They have a variety of their gluten free options, which is much appreciated. This time we tried some of their main food items, and it did not disappoint. My non gf friend liked her breakfast burrito and I liked my egg salad bagel. I can't get this anywhere local! There's always a spot to sit at and the service is standard, polite and to the point. A great place for brunch or to pick up a sweet treat!
Great breakfast, lunch and snack selections with indoor or outdoor seating. Service was friendly and efficient. The decor is super cute and location is convenient to access from the parking lot and is in the middle of the strip. I enjoyed my smoked salmon with super seed bagel with chive cream cheese, tomato, arugula and pickled onions. I also got a coffee bread pastry that was light and fluffy and washed it down with a honey matcha latte.
Just want to start off by saying the manager here is kind and seems to always be attentive with everything I see him helping out every time I go. His customer service is good. Aside from that I love the iced honey matcha it's my go to. So far I've enjoyed their latka potato's the sauce is bomb their lox sandwiches amazing I really enjoyed the open faced one with the lemon! Their goat cheese one with the chilli jam so good and I also really liked their grilled cheese with the onion jam so far everything I've had has been so good!!! I love the ambience love that they have outdoor sitting and the inside is spacious. Excited to try out other things on the menu so far you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

There is comforting simplicity in their Dine-in Exclusives, only available at the Woodland Hills location. The Miso Salmon Bowl was one of my favorites!! Perfectly seared and flaky! Hits all the right notes with Furikake, avocado, sweet potatoes, marinated cucumbers and pickled onions! The miso sauce brings an umami flavor that's savory and salty! The Shakshuka came piping hot in a cast iron skillet and crusty bread. This beloved breakfast dish with poached eggs is hearty, spicy and savory! The feta cheese adds a salty and tangy element. The Blueberry Pancakes is fluffy and delicious with homemade blueberry sauce. The maple butter is whipped, made with 100% pure maple syrup, dairy free and vegan. They have a range of hot and cold coffee drinks, including their signature drinks. My favorite was the Mexican Mocha!! They also have a wide assortment of gluten free bagels. With a variety of gluten free, nut free pastries. Some are dairy free, vegan and soy free. So moist!! So scrumptious!! Lovely indoor and outdoor seating!!! Relaxing and cozy!! I was absolutely craving a yummy packed open-face bagel this morning and Modern Bread And Bagel really delivered. I had their limited 'The Bazaar Bagel' and it was soooo good! It scratched my urge and was perfectly seasoned. I'm really big on texture when it comes to my food and this bagel had the elements I needed. The peas were nice and fresh, the cream cheese was smooth, and the seeds added the perfect crunch. Also, their pasty selection looked very good. I will be trying the zucchini bread next time. The service was great! The server was very nice and brought me a bag, taking my dishes once I was finished. The vibe was nice and had a lot of nice chatting. If you like a more chatty environment, I would recommend. Overall, this was a great experience! I kind of wish they had a sweet option for their open-face bagels but the vast pastry selection made up for it! It helps with that sweet craving :) read more

my boyfriend and i recently ordered a to-go order from here, and overall, it was a decent experience. i got the big show on a pretzel bagel with truffle aioli and a fried egg to go with the vegan sausage, along with the potato, leek, and goat cheese quiche. my boyfriend got the BEC. i was drawn to this place because i saw that they had so many vegetarian/vegan options. i'm pescatarian, so it's always nice when a place has plenty of meatless options. that being said, the big show was unfortunately a little too salty for my taste. the flavors were definitely there, but everything together was pretty strong, to the point where it was a little difficult for me to finish the whole thing in one sitting. i think the truffle aioli and fried egg were really good additions, but the overall saltiness of the sausage just became a bit much for me. the quiche was good, and i really liked the potato, leek, and goat cheese combination. the actual filling and flavors worked really well together, but the crust was a little harder than i would have liked. definitely not terrible, but the crust was probably the weakest part of the quiche for me. my boyfriend enjoyed the BEC, although he was a little disappointed by the sourdough bread. so while neither of us thought our meals were bad, there were just a few things that kept them from being something we were really excited about. i did really like the setup of the store, though. it's very cute and has a cozy but modern feel to it, and i could definitely see this being a nice spot to hang out, study, or grab a quick brunch. i think i could enjoy coming here more for the atmosphere and trying something different than i did with this particular order. overall, it was a good experience and i'm glad we tried it, but i don't know if i'd necessarily go out of my way to order from here again. there are definitely some things on the menu i'd still be curious to try, though. read more

I always see this spot when I walk around the village in Topanga; and finally came here with a fellow yelper I got the cinnamon bun latte, but light on the cheesecake syrup because I don't like too much sweetness. I also got the blueberry coffee cake. Everything was good! We sat outside and chatted, didn't feel rushed or anything. The vibes were great and the spot is gluten free! The store overall was super clean, they had a water station with utensils, and the space was good. Overall a great exp! Will def be back! read more
A gluten free bakery... YES PLEASE!! I was overwhelmed by the options because let's be real people with a gluten allergy don't usual have many options! I met with my cousin who also is allergic to gluten here for lunch and yap. I got the coconut french toast dippers and she got the miso bowl, we both grabbed a raspberry matcha with oat milk. Everything was delicious and tasted great. I also grabbed a cinnamon roll to go, had it when I got home and will definitely be grabbing this again! I will be back to try more of the baked goodies and maybe a sandwich next time too! Seating inside and patio out front. Can have to go or have them bring it to your table. Last week I ordered from Modern Bread & Bagel and their bagels were soft and warm. The latkes were tasty and the truffle chips crunchy. I will surely order again they didn't disappoint. Since this was a delivery I didn't observe the ambiance. The service was prompt delivery. read more

I had breakfast here after a workout, and overall the experience was okay. The place itself is nice, clean, and organized, with a calm atmosphere that fits a morning vibe. The food was good--not anything special or out of the ordinary, but satisfying. The staff was okay. I didn't experience anything unpleasant, but they weren't the warmest or most welcoming I've seen. It felt a bit technical and nothing beyond that. It's a place I would come back to because of the convenience and how close it is to my gym, but it's not somewhere I would go out of my way for or describe as "wow." There's room for improvement when it comes to flavor--I'd like to see more seasoning in the food, and the service could definitely be a bit friendlier and warmer. Let me just start by saying: I. Am. Obsessed. I stumbled into Modern Bread and Bagel totally by accident before a hair appointment upstairs at Salon Republic. I just needed a quick bite and what I got instead was a full-blown gluten-free epiphany. So picture this: I walk in, eyeing the wall of bagels and glass case full of pastries like a kid in a candy store... but with the skepticism of someone who's been burned before by hidden gluten. I asked the guy behind the counter, "What here is gluten-free?" and he calmly says, "Everything." I was like... Sure. Still didn't believe him. So I point to the tuna sandwich. "That's gluten-free?" "Yup." "The bagels??" "All of them." CINNAMON ROLLS?? "Yep. Everything." At this point I pulled out my phone and Googled and yep, he was right. The entire place is gluten-free. I basically blacked out from excitement and started buying everything. Bagels? Dozen. Pastries? One of each. Sourdough? Into the bag. Matcha cake? Sure, why not. I easily drop over $100 every time I come back (this is my 4th visit) and freeze stuff to take back home. For someone with a gluten allergy, this place is an emotional support bakery. My go-to is the tuna salad sandwich on sourdough and I never leave without grabbing a chocolate chip cookie + cinnamon roll. Today I tried the vanilla matcha cake and I swear it tasted like a slice of soft, sweet heaven. Oh and the bagels? Better than regular bagels. I said what I said. 10/10. If you're gluten-free (or even if you're not), you need to go here. Thank you Modern Bread and Bagel for existing. read more

Omg absolutely IN LOVE with this place!!! Y'all EVERYTHING is gluten free!!!! And many MANY items are absolutely delicious! I got the breakfast burrito (get it you won't be sorry) the plantain chips are also FIRE. The donuts are incredible, the cupcakes are bomb. ALSO the tuna bagel sandwich was great. And the coffee is exceptional. I can't stay away from this place. Also, I had the coffee bread and I didn't like it and they just let me have another dessert for free. I take EVERYONE I know here. read more
Honestly, this place is extremely overrated. I've tried multiple items like coffee, matcha, pastries, bagels, sandwiches, even straight espresso shots and EVERYTHING has been consistently disappointing. The only redeeming quality is the service, which is genuinely good. Prices are slightly elevated, which is understandable given the Topanga Village location, but the quality doesn't justify the cost. There is free water station where you can refill your water bottles that I appreciate. I work nearby and have unfortunately returned a few times as a last resort for lunch, hoping it would improve. It hasn't. Most recently, my breakfast bagel was burnt, unappetizing, and took about 15 minutes to come out. That was the final straw. Won't be coming back. read more

I ordered a Cinnamon bun latte and sadly have to give it a 2 because it just tasted like cinnamon water :/ the caramel and cheesecake syrup didn't come through much. This was not sweet at all and didn't taste like a cinnamon bun drink as advertised. read more

I usually stop by here when I have an early appointment. Got an Americano and tried their vanilla monkey bread today. Their pastries and bagels are usually pretty good, you can never go wrong. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating- perfect for sitting down for a few minutes to check emails before heading to an appointment. read more

Bagels weren't even warm. Chewy and stale. There was literally a solid inch of cream cheese in one of the bagels. It was hardly edible and we didn't have more than a couple bites. On top of that, the wait was long with little traffic. read more
nice breakfast place with some indoor and outdoor seating available. i was disappointed by the raspberry matcha latte, the matcha was kind of grainy and very sweet. the breakfast burrito was yummy, but unfortunately extremely oily, and i wish the salsa had more taste! the g'day mate was very good! the avocado was different than what i expected, but the bagel was great and i will be trying more of the bagel sandwiches :) read more

We are always looking for spots that offer gluten-free options and the bagels were delicious! Very fulfilling and jam packed with egg, vegan bacon, and cheese! A great crunch and yummy mouthful! Great spot to do work, meet with colleagues, or catch up with family and friends! Love how spacious it is! We do wish the staff was more welcoming. We felt rushed to order and the cashier seemed annoyed. Given it was our first time, it was a bit off-putting, but the bagels are worth going back! read more

Do they have quiche?
Yes, I saw quiche both on the menu and in the case. But they do say they make everything fresh daily so when you go they could be sold out. When I was there they only had one.
Is their parking near the location?
Yes. There is an enormous indoor lot with 1.5 hours of free parking, as well as pay spots outdoors in the lot along Topanga Canyon.
Is everything on the menu gluten free?
Last time I was there (a month or so ago), everything was gluten free. For a celiac, ex-bread lover, this place is heaven.
