I have to say what a disappointment this place was. There's an app called "too good to go".. What it's meant to do is allow people to get a taste of the products at certain establishments. My husband got a cake to celebrate my bday. We picked up the cake in the afternoon and kept it in our fridge until dinner time. When we cut into the cake we immediately noticed a sour smell and upon looking more closely saw mold growing inside. 22 years ago the coconut, the triple berry, the cherry pie was the go to for a nighttime desert with a French press at the Melrose shop where you had better know what you wanted and order promptly. Those days are long gone. The cakes have gone south. We have had cakes from Encino, Calabasas, and larchmont. With new ownership and more stores just plain terrible. We recently got a slice of coconut from Larchmont shop. The cake tasted sour. The cream tasted like uncooked flour. The texture of the triple berry and coconut cakes is nothing from what they were. So disappointing. I'm told that the cakes are now being frozen. If so that won't help anything. Longing for the one small shop with a line out the door and amazing deserts. We can't eat this anymore. Last Sunday, we ordered the Triple Berry Cake from Calabasas for my daughter's birthday party, and unfortunately, it was a true disappointment. The whipped cream tasted unpleasant neither sweet nor light, but overly buttery. The cake itself resembled a plain sponge cake, and the berries consisted only of blueberries and crushed raspberries, with no strawberries included. We paid $120 for this cake, and in hindsight, I wish I had purchased the Berry Cake from Whole Foods, which I highly recommend for both taste and value. read more

I learned this location existed from the Encino location "Sweet Lady Jane " And when my family and I were in the area we decided to stop by. Sweet Lady Jane is like all chains, they have a menu of regular items they offer...in this case a menu of cakes( by the slice in many cases or whole), pies, cookies and other specialty sweets, which I think is awesome because you can rely on them to (almost always) have your favorite sweet item...for me their carrot cake is to die for. My biggest grip about this location is the lack of indoor or outdoor seats; more of seems to be "a pick up and go" store. The first date of my wife and I (many years ago) included sitting inside the Melrose location sharing the cakes we chose...it does make me sad that an experience like that can't be had at this location. I guess that's a reason to go back to the Melrose location? Perhaps things have changed? That said, the counter attendants were courteous and friendly. Also of note, they don't accept cash here. I think life is too short to just have some cake, I'd like a good experience to go with it...so perhaps we won't be back preferring to go to another location that has a sit down and chill vibe versus a pick and go vibe. read more

Passing through Calabasas and wanted 4 cupcakes. It was towards end of their workday so they were completely out. Understandable. So I opted to get 2 slices of cake at $12+ each. Figured I'd get 3-4 servings at that cost. Cute boxes but so disappointed when I opened the first one. It's like they didn't cut wide enough to even get the middle part of the cake slice. I was looking for a birthday cake for my grandson, and I ended up choosing the coconut cake, it was a hit, everyone loved it. While I was there, I decided to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of their flourless chocolate cake, which was absolutely delicious. I was ripped off by this store!! THIS STORE LIED TO MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY!!! The new owners are HORRIBLE. I SPENT $100 ON AN ORDER ON SEPT. 4TH AND STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT (now Oct. 19th). For context: We ordered a $100 triple berry cake, but found out two days before our pickup time that my father in law was having a medical emergency. Upon calling the shop, I was told I could either receive credit for another cake, or I'd be able to delay my pickup for another day. Upon calling again the following week, I couldn't get a hold of the manager (come to find out they had quit!) I was then told to leave my info and I'd receive a call back about picking up a new cake. I then didn't receive a call back, tried calling repeatedly, and was told by the associate that my info was thrown away which is why I never received a call. They told me that the owner was too busy to help me resolve the issue and that I could no longer receive credit (when I was told the week before I could) nor could I pick up a new cake. So I went to my credit card company to over turn the charge. The company did so, but then went back on my refund after contacting Sweet Lady Jane, because the store claimed "...The cardholder was present during the in-person transaction at our restaurant..." THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE LIE. I SWEAR ON MY LIFE THIS IS A TOTAL FALSEHOOD!! We've bought from Sweet Lady Jane for years, and now under these new owners, I've never experienced such awful customer service. My order included a $17 tip, and for what? This is thievery. It's not the store associate's fault, it's the new owners. I sincerely hope their business suffers as a result of this awful service, which in observation of the other poor reviews, is bound to happen sooner than later. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE.
