The Cali breakfast burrito at Sobuneh on Melrose has a lot of hype behind it and unfortunately it doesn't quite live up to it. Let's start with the ordering process. You walk down a long hall, wait in line, order with a dedicated person, and give them your cell number to be texted when it's ready. The concept is fine but the execution has some real flaws -- there's no confirmation text when your order is received, and when it's ready the text simply says "your order is ready" with no order number, no name, nothing to identify which order is yours. That vague system led to an unnecessarily unpleasant experience when a rude employee essentially yelled at my daughter when she went to pick up the burrito with my name on it. According to her he wasn't just rude to her -- he was rude to everyone. That kind of interaction is inexcusable and left a bad taste before we even took a bite. The free cold water station was a nice touch though. As for the burrito itself -- The Cali comes loaded with steak, egg, avocado, tots, and cheese on a good tortilla and comes with a cilantro lime aioli that was genuinely excellent. The steak was flavorful and the egg was good. The sauce elevated everything it touched. The problem is the execution was uneven -- one half of the burrito was packed perfectly, the other was nearly empty. The tots could have been crispier and at $19.50 you expect consistency throughout every single bite. On the plus side, they do have a nice upstairs patio that opens on weekends which is a great spot to enjoy your food. Parking on Melrose can be difficult but there is metered street parking available nearby. We're living in a golden age of breakfast burrito competition in LA and Sobuneh just doesn't clear the bar set by spots like Bread and Butter or Wake and Late. The hype isn't earned at this price point. Skip the line and spend your $20 somewhere that deserves it. read more

I also witnessed them being condescending to the patron picking up an order ahead of me. The worker was insisting they didn't have the patron's order because she came to the wrong location, but the issue was the worker missed the patron's name the first time the worker scanned the pickup orders. This is my favorite breakfast burrito in LA!! This space is right in WeHo where there's actually street parking available and lots of other shops around the street. We went for lunch on a Saturday and there was a line but it moved fast. The space is all outdoors but most is covered to protect from the sun and it was easy to get a seat. My fiance and I split The Veg burrito with gluten free tortilla plus tots and tried both sauces - cilantro lime and honey chipotle. FINALLY!! Sobuneh has been on my list for sooo long. There is only one breakfast burrito that still ranks above the Sig for me. These burritos are absolute flavor bombs and the chorizo mixed with the cilantro lime aioli was an excellent balance. The Sig had a FAT avocado portion, eggs cooked well, cheese ratio was exactly as it should be, and tots were perfectly crispy. I even liked the beans, which I normally skip and the pickled onions on the side were a great touch. I also tried a bite of the Cali and that one was also great, steak was cooked perfectly. I really like that every meat option was beef based. The Sonnati matcha latte was also quite unique -- I'm obviously very used to Persian flavors but I wasn't sure about this one and it worked out very well. I liked the upstairs seating area a lot as well, a great little cozy nook to finish breakfast. I've been to Sobuneh's ghost kitchen before, but this was our first time at their new West Hollywood location. The location itself is great, but the overall experience was a bit mixed. The food was honestly really good. With my current dietary restrictions, it was such a win to find a spot that offers a gluten free vegetarian breakfast burrito. My husband got their steak burrito, and he still thinks their Class B with beef bacon is the best. Safe to say, the burritos did not disappoint. The sauces, though, were a completely different story. The cilantro lime was super watery and way too heavy on the lime and jalapeño. It was really off and honestly kind of ruined the balance of the burrito. The chipotle aioli was better, but still not as consistent as what we've had from their ghost kitchen. We ended up tossing both, which was disappointing.Tater tots were fire as always. Perfectly crispy across the board, no complaints there. We also tried their café drinks for the first time, and that was such a nice surprise. I got the Persian iced matcha with Earl Grey, and it's easily one of my new favorites. Super flavorful and you can tell the matcha quality is there. That said, a few hours after eating, both my husband and I started feeling really off in a way that wasn't typical for us. This was the only meal we had that day, so it stood out and left us a bit uneasy. Now the biggest downside: the seating situation. It's honestly chaotic and kind of frustrating to watch. There's no system, and people just hover and jump on tables the second they open up. We saw a family clearly waiting get passed over by another couple who swooped in and grabbed a table mid-transition. It just creates a really unpleasant vibe. Generous amount of avocado, perfectly warm n crunchy tater tots, surprisingly juicy steak, etc etc. $20 may seem like a devious price for a breakfast burrito but this thing is more filling than it looks! Finally tried the new storefront! I really like the way it's set up and that ample seating is offered on the weekends (less seating offered weekdays). I would recommend ordering ahead as the wait time is around 15-20 minutes for food. The drinks came out quicker. The tots are perfectly crispy and the burrito perfectly tasty. So, this place is good...if you can find out. Söbuneh is a new breakfast burrito place on Melrose, a few blocks East of La Cienega. It's actually their second location; the first is on Santa Monica Blvd, not far from the 405. I ordered what they call "The BB," which, the menu says, consists of "pasture-raised organic eggs, beef bacon, cheddar, chives, tater tots, and honey chipotle aioli served with pickled onions." Though the pickled onions come separately. You can also ask to add avocado, which I did (and recommend for reasons I'll get into momentarily). Their breakfast burritos also come with a choice of sauces: cilantro-lime aioli or honey chipotle aioli. I went for the latter; haven't like the former when I've had it at other places. Regardless, "The BB" was really good. The eggs were light and fluffy, the tater tots were crunchy, it had big pieces of fresh avocado, and the tortilla was nicely toasted and seemed to be fresh. As for a beverage, I had an ice latte, which was heavier than I expected, more espresso-y than milky, unlike a lot of places. That said, it was a little small. Though only a little. As for the place itself, it was clean and had a handful of tables in a little courtyard, with more upstairs under a covering. So maybe don't go when it rains. I also found the staff to be friendly and attentive, and my food came out in a reasonable amount of time: clearly long enough that they made it fresh, but not so long that I was wondering what the heck was taking so long. Now, this is, as I said, Melrose near La Cienega, so it was mostly metered street parking. And while I easily found a spot at 11AM on a Wednesday, I could see it being tougher around, say, noon. It was also not easy to find the place itself. It really is a little hole in the wall. Or, more accurately, a long hallway. Though, to be fair, once I parked, and was on foot, it wasn't hard to find; it was more that it was hard to find when I was driving down Melrose, half looking for it, and half looking for parking. In fact, the only thing that was at all difficult about Söbuneh were the napkins. They were kind of small and thin. Had to grab a lot, especially after I started in on the honey chipotle aioli sauce. We went there on a Sunday wanting breakfast burritos and honestly the price for the size of the burrito was not worth it. We got the Sig burrito the taste was good and the cilantro sauce was not bad but the price was just not it. If you like paying more for small burrito then this is your spot! We asked for light ice on our coffees and they asked us if it was okay to not have the cup filled all the way or to add more milk so our cup would be full which I've never heard before. We were forced to ask for more milk and the coffee just tasted like milk because we asked for light ice. The place was pretty unprofessional handled because they handed our food to another person and they realized it was a mistake. Our food was opened by another person and they didn't even do anything about it, they just apologized. The space was a real issue too! No one could walk around, everyone would just push each other around to get a spot. I understand they had limited space but I think they could handle the situation of the seating better by making people wait in line until a place opened up to be seated or something. The consensus is that this is one of the top breakfast burritos around. I was definitely skeptical when I seen that BestofLA scammer saying that it was. But to my surprise, he wasnt lying this time. Macheen had been my top burrito, but these burritos are the best new school breakfast burritos I've had. I tried The Sig (Chorizo) and The BB (Beef Bacon). Get both of the salsas (Cilantro Lime & Honey Chipotle and use them together. The flavor is crazy. FYI they don't have pork. This place is insanely popular, and its in LA. So good luck finding parking, and even if you order ahead, be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour. Its also a little hard to find because you can't really see it from the street. It's down a long narrow hallway. But overall, these burritos are must try. The only reason its not 5 stars is because of the location and wait time. The burrito is definitely 5 stars! read more

I finally tried Sobuneh's matcha and I really like it!!! I got the matcha latte with pistachio milk and sweetened it with vanilla bean. Overall, it was really creamy and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I really liked the matcha and thought the pistachio milk paired with it really well! Highly recommend! Best freaking breakfast burrito I've had thus far living in LA. I never order burritos at trendy cafes/lunch spots in the city as I'm more of the type to prefer a bagel or avocado toast for reference. However, having the Bacon burrito here made me want to try newer breakfast places since it was genuinely a memorable meal.
