This is the second time I've been there. And the food was the same quality as the first time. Excellent excellent excellent! It's really hard to find a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. NOT! If you trip, you will fall over an excellent Mexican restaurant without trying. So for me to give a Mexican restaurant this mini stars means that it's exceptional. And I can tell you that when I walked in at 3:30 the place was packed. There were no inside tables at all we were relegated to the patio because that's the only place to sit. Even the bar was full. El compadre reminds me of an old Vegas casino. When you walk in, you have no idea what time of day it is. It is a classic dark, red booth environment that only a good restaurant can get away with. Most of the patrons look like they've been coming there forever, which tells you that it's a favorite for people in the neighborhood. But the reason they keep coming back is because of the food and the service. The minute you sit down, they bring you a bowl full of chips and salsa. You have to try one of their flaming margaritas which they're known for. How I judge every single Mexican restaurant is by their fajitas. And not just any fajitas shrimp fajitas. That is my favorite dish. In order for me to give a restaurant five stars the shrimp has to be fresh with that snap that only good fresh shrimp has. The vegetables have to be firm but flavorful and the meal has to come piping hot. El compadre scored well on all of those points. If you order the shrimp cocktail, you need to understand that that will be your meal. Because they're huge. Chalk full of avocado and shrimp. It's more like a ceviche than a shrimp cocktail. It's delicious. The staff is wonderful and very attentive. I cannot encourage you enough to go there. It's wonderful.

Average experience for lunch; not the best and not the worst. Service was fine and our waiter checked on us often. I ordered the two crispy taco combo and my husband ordered their chicken burrito. We enjoyed our food, but it just felt very average. Their chips and salsa are good as is their guacamole. I'm happy to have them in the neighborhood, but I don't see the value in coming back again anytime soon.

Food Service Atmosphere Rough night and all I could think about was a bomb Albóndigas soup. This spot never disappoints. The soup tasted a little different this time (almost like a minestrone vibe), but still bmb. Shoutout to the bartender; super friendly, easy on the eyes, and great service. I originally tried to order takeout online but the soup wasn't listed, so I just went in. Sat at the bar, ordered my food, had a recommended tequila, and it completely fixed my day. Saludos

Both the food and service were equally bad. Our waiter mentioned multiple times that he was counting down the minutes until closing, which made us feel unwelcome throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the experience. The chips arrived cold and stale, and the entrees were cold and lacking any flavor or authenticity. The restaurant has a cool atmosphere, but beyond the vibe, the experience fell short. Luckily LA has plenty of other great Mexican restaurants.

Est. 1975- What is there for me to say - everything that can be said about El Compadre, has been said. For 50 years, It has been one LA's favorite Mexican restaurants. A favorite for its design, its location, its clientele and its food. If it's good enough for Bosch, it's good enough for me. El Compadre's 'Old World Hacienda' feel is a major part of its charm. The lively atmosphere, often includes live music. It's an easy spot to drink too much, stuff yourself with chips & salsa, and lose hours of the afternoon and evening. What's not to like! On this particular visit, we had the Chili Colorado, the #18 (Beef Tamale and Beef Enchilada), a couple of Crunchy Tacos, Bloody Mary's, and some flaming Margaritas. It's all good. El Compadre is not just about the menu, it's about the experience. I hope this family owned and operated Hollywood Gem, never looses its charm. If you haven't been to El Compadre, then you haven't fully experienced LA restaurant culture.

Stopped in to snack on appetizers with a large group of colleagues after a weekend workshop nearby. It took a while for them to open the outdoor back patio for us, but the atmosphere was nice, especially as the sun started to set and the string lights turned on. The food and service was mediocre unfortunately: servers are overworked and plates are greasy with too much cheese on everything, but you may spot a celebrity or two sneak in through the back door like we did during our visit. I was told the cocktails were nicely balanced and not too strong. *Delayed post from May '25

First time here. Walking in it is dark coming in from the bright sunlight. One my eyed adjusted, it was a nice hacienda decor. We quickly ordered. I got theeEl Grande combo. It came out fairly quickly. All was fine except the taco was cold. Not just the lettuce, but also the meat! My friends was the same. We told the waiter and he promptly got it corrected. The food itself was a notch above what I was expecting. I was expecting average but it was good. The portions were generous as well. I'll probably cone back again one day. I hope next time it will impress me more.

A Fiery, Flavorful Time at El Compadre! We had such a great time again at El Compadre Hollywood! The food lineup was amazing--starting with the Chicken Quesadilla Guacamole (yes, it's as good as it sounds), followed by Enchiladas de Mole, Enchiladas Verdes de Pollo, Two Crispy Tacos, and Enchiladas de Queso. Every bite hit the spot. The real showstopper? The flaming margaritas! Literally on fire--and totally unforgettable. We love that this place sticks to its roots with authentic Mexican dishes (not Tex-Mex!), which we've really been craving. It's been around since 1975 and has such a cool, old-school vibe--plus it's just 10 minutes from the Walk of Fame. We even made the trip from Newport just to mix things up--and it was so worth it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for solid food, a bit of history, and a fiery drink or two! IG: @thefoodie.99 El Compadre Hollywood 7408 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046 (323) 874-7924

Great authentic. Mexican food. The albondigas soup tastes like your grandmas homemade recipe. Andrew the server was friendly, helpful and cordial. Had a great smile, attitude and we appreciated his outstanding service. The margaritas were great also.

In the conversation for best 'wet burrito' . À very good deal at $17 in 2026z here is what you receive: Side grilled tortilla chips, salsa and small serve Guac . I ordered the steak wet burrito soaked in both red and green sauce. Might be viewed as atypical, but the river of flavors blended quite well. The green river had a more citrus taste, while the red was more tomato spiced. Floating in the river I believe were pieces of queso fresco Mexican cheese. À nice touch that really worked. The we burrito itself was hearty , the meat spiced and almost cut thick like stew shaped. Wasn't expecting that. Burrito held all the contents incredibly well. Slathering the red/green sauce energized my taste buds and I enjoyed this meal a lot. Woukd definitely come back to try the chicken fajitas when my appetite is larger !

My husband and I love the food here. We've never had a bad dish. With that being said...I would have loved to give 5 stars, however each time we have eaten here the food always comes out luke warm. Delicious but not hot. The service is always 10/10! In fact, when we mentioned that the food wasn't hot our server happily took it back to heat it up. Next time we'll just ask to make sure the food comes out hot. The ambiance is classic old school Mexican Restaurant. Super dark inside. Parking as mentioned in all the other posts are either the street or a couple in the back.

    Flaming something or other
    Cindy T.

It's Hollywood - there's no parking. Maybe five spaces in the back, but I couldn't tell. We got stuck between a car backing up towards us and a car blocking the alley in front of us. Recommend using public parking nearby if you can find it. We were fairly early on a Saturday (5:30) and it was fairly busy. We were seated pretty quickly though. Corner booth in the very back of the restaurant. Service was horrible. Unacceptably bad. But several of my friends had been here before and said it hadn't happened before. The food was decent. The flaming drinks are fun.

The restaurant is beautiful and reminds me of being in Mexico. A Spanish theme and style. A lot of seating and it's also spacious with an outdoor patio that is open to the customers and also widely used for many event. Everything was clean from what I noticed. The music volume was tolerable as well as the selection of choice. Felt like I was on vacation for a min. A great spot to have drinks. A great to spot to meet up or even come for a date. The Melrose Mule was cool. Very refreshing like the bartender mentioned. It was different than the usual mules I get. And the Improved Whiskey was like having an Old Fashion and Whiskey Sour together. It did not disappoint. I also had an attentive bartender who had a good attitude. Didn't take long for him to make my drinks nor put in an order for a smash burger. The smash burger was acceptable. It was good, however, I was expecting something a little bit bigger in size. I like the presentation with it being wrapped in foil. It was cooked perfectly, it was hot and flavorful. No complaints other than the size. I wouldn't mind pulling back up for another happy hour when I'm back in the area. They have some more drinks I would love to try.

The food was just as memorable. The chicken Parmesan was everything you want it to be: crispy, flavorful, and topped with a rich, perfectly balanced marinara and plenty of melted cheese. The Rigatoni Vodka (we added a meatball) was equally impressive. The vodka sauce was creamy without being overly heavy, and the meatball was tender, well seasoned, and packed with flavor. One thing to know before you go: parking can be a nightmare. There is valet in front, or you can opt for parking in the surrounding neighborhood. You're better off grabbing a rideshare if you can. It makes the experience much easier, especially if you plan on enjoying a few drinks. Between the beautiful ambiance, generous portions, and delicious food, this is an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

We originally…read morewanted to try another restaurant, but it was completely booked, so we looked for somewhere new to explore. Met Him At A Bar seemed like a good option, and one of my girlfriends made a reservation for four. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM. I street-parked and walked to the restaurant, where one of my friends was waiting outside. I asked why she wasn't sitting at our table, and she told me that our table was right by the entrance. She didn't like that spot and thought the tables farther inside looked much more comfortable and cozy. Since people were sitting at one of those tables, she wanted to wait until they left. Personally, I thought the table by the entrance was perfectly fine, but I was also STARVING! Another friend arrived and also disliked the table, so we decided to wait. After a while, I was getting way too hungry, so we sat at the bar and ordered an appetizer and drinks while waiting. I first ordered the Garlic Shrimp and asked if it was spicy. I was told it was, so I asked if they could make it without the spice because I can't eat spicy food. He said he would check with the kitchen, but since I was starving and it sounded like it might take too long, I changed my order to Garlic Bread. One of my girlfriends ordered a glass of wine, and since she had made the reservation and gone through the trouble of arranging everything, I treated her to the wine and garlic bread. Then, of course, our friend who is ALWAYS late arrived about 30 minutes late! By then, the rest of us had already decided what to order from the Dine LA menu. We wanted to try as many dishes as possible, so we ordered different items and shared everything. When our late friend arrived, we ordered his dishes separately. For the first course, we had Caesar Salad, Bruschetta, and Meatballs. For the second course, we ordered Rigatoni Vodka, Cacio e Pepe, and Margherita Pizza. For dessert, everyone ordered Tiramisu. Overall, I thought the food was good. My favorites were the Bruschetta, Meatballs, Rigatoni Vodka, and Tiramisu. The Cacio e Pepe was not my favorite because I thought they used way too much black pepper, and my other friends agreed. Our group had mixed reactions overall. Except for one person, the other two felt the food didn't quite live up to their expectations and were somewhat disappointed. But everyone's taste is different, so I completely understand. Considering how expensive everything has become these days, I thought the Dine LA price was pretty reasonable. It was $45 per person, and with tax and tip, it came to $60 each. For that price, I thought the amount of food and the overall experience were pretty good. I also really appreciated how friendly and attentive all the staff members were. I usually don't drink alcohol, and especially when I'm driving, I NEVER drink--not even a sip. That has been my personal rule for decades. So I just ordered water, and I loved how the staff kept coming by and refilling my glass whenever it got low. I drink a LOT of water, so I really appreciated their attentiveness. Now, about parking: valet parking is $17. I decided to street-park instead. One of my friends also street-parked, but unfortunately she got a parking ticket and was VERY upset. I had originally found a spot where a sign said a parking permit was required, so I decided not to take the risk and moved my car. Before leaving, I asked a man walking his dog if it was okay to park there. He said he had seen many cars parked there and they had been fine, but I still didn't trust it because the sign clearly said permits were required. I told him, "I don't think that's allowed." He was very nice and suggested going about three blocks farther, where there was plenty of street parking without a permit. I followed his advice and parked there. Unfortunately, my friend who stayed in the permit-only spot ended up getting a ticket. Another friend parked in the parking structure across the street and said it cost $18. Since I had parked farther away and didn't want to walk alone at night, I asked him to drop me off at my car after dinner, and he kindly did. So my parking recommendation is to use the $17 valet or street-park about three blocks away where no permit is required. I definitely would NOT recommend parking in the permit-only spaces unless you want to risk getting a ticket. One of the funniest things about this neighborhood is the restaurant names. The restaurant we went to is called "Met Him At A Bar," and literally right across the street is "Met Her At A Bar." There's also another restaurant called "The Night We Met." I have to say, the names are pretty creative and definitely make this neighborhood more fun! Overall, we had a fun evening together, and for $60 per person including tax and tip, I thought it was a pretty decent Dine LA experience.

If you can make it Monday through Thursday, don't miss their happy hour--it's one of the best deals in town. Everything we ordered, from the appetizers and entrées to the desserts, was absolutely delicious. You can tell the chef takes great pride in every dish. Overall, I give this place 5 stars. Great atmosphere, amazing food, and a wonderful dining experience. I'll definitely be coming back!

The outdoor space is still beautiful, but , unfortunately the LOUD music ruins the ambiance. People have to scream to hear their table mates. So we asked to be transferred indoors. Music still loud but less people screaming. the indoor space has been poorly maintained, floors are worn out, everything looks, well, old. Food: fried calamari... well cooked, tender, totally flavorless. Caesar Salad with chicken... VERY little dressing (we had to request more as well as salt and pepper, the chicken... dry as cardboard. The only good thing about this experience was the attentive waitress, unfortunately I didn't ask her name. What a disappointment!
