It's surrounded by a huge parking lot in the middle of nowhere. At least, that's what my first impression was. However, when I had to drop off my car at an auto shop in Martinez recently, I took a Lyft ride to this station to catch a train to the city. From the outside, it looks like Plain Jane, but from inside the platform, it looks gorgeous. The view looking West is so picturesque with the vibrant, green trees on both sides, bushes on the left side and the retaining wall on the right side is aesthetically pleasing to look at. It's framed like a modern painting that evokes a feeling of calmness. But you know what they say...beaty is in the eye of the beholder. But these are the things that captures my eyes as I get older and enjoy the serenity and simple things in life. Funny how such mundane things captures my attention and have such a strong reaction to a glimpse of unpretentious moment of time. The station is also, quiet, clean and unobstructed. The only negative I would have to say is that it doesn't have a covered garage to provide as shade to your vehicles. Especially in this part of town where the heat can become so unbearable. They do have some small trees in the parking lot though, but not enough to provide the proper protection from the sun. Other than that, it was better than I expected, and took me a bit by surprise.

The fact that there is a parking garage was a huge plus for me. The fee to park here is $3/day within the hours of 4am-3pm. Any time outside of those hours is free. Payment can be done through the BART app, where you will need to link your Clipper Card number and license plate number. This is to ensure that you actually entered BART and aren't abusing the parking spaces reserved for BART riders. When paying for your spot, you input the number you parked in (located on the ground of your parking space), add your payment info, and you're good to go! It should be a pretty smooth and speedy process. I parked on the far end of the parking garage, so walking to and from the BART entrance was a bit far, but it was definitely doable. Like all BART stations, this location is equipped with kiosks to add value to your Clipper Card. There are escalators that take you to the upper level which is where you enter the train car. The train car had a frequency of 15 minutes during the time we were there, so it came pretty fast. Once we got in we were on our way!

I gave it 3 stars solely because the location of the station is key for me as well as the accessibility to take public transportation anytime to the heart of SF is pretty cool. We all remember the BART strikes that occurred a couple years back and how disruptive that was to everyone's commute. Seeing that these folks now get paid reasonably well, it's very discouraging and disappointing to see a lack of interest with regards to the cleanliness of the station, the lack of police presence, and the increased amount of folks loitering. In addition, I overheard a BART passenger brag on how he's been getting free parking for a month and hasn't been caught yet. That's frustrating for multiple reasons, but ultimately, because it validates that no one is really patrolling. The infrastructure of the station is obsolete and not well thought out. During rainy days, you'll see they block half of the corridor on the bridge because of the opening. There's nothing that is used to block the rain, so the floors get wet and slippery. Go figure. While waiting on the platform, it's quite windy and the noise is very loud. I thought that was kinda odd, but realized the way the building was structured contributed to that! Overall, this is the only closest public transportation near me that can take me to the city if I wanted to. So that's the real value for me and why I put up with it. I hope they renovate this place soon. That would be ideal!

It's a sad reflection of our society & times though, and not of Capital Corridor, but you will see it while you're there and some may or may not approach you (like anywhere). There's a jail nearby/down the street and when some people get released, they don't have anywhere else to go. I've seen deer and raccoons in the early morning hours. Last winter, I saw a family of four deer waltz by in the parking lot -that was something. As long as I don't see any big cats or mountain lions *=D Anyway the trains are really nice as well as the conductors and Martinez is somewhat of a hub. You can head towards San Jose, Richmond, Sac, Bakersfield etc. Check them out on IG, Twitter, their app (great for checking current train ETA times, or their website to see all the route, ticket, and pass options.

We needed overnight parking and at first could not find any spots nearby. I checked with the station agent who directed me (with rather poor directions) to a lot on the other side of the tracks. So we had a bit of a hike back to the station. Glad we had left plenty of time. The Capitol Corridor train certainly beats BART. Seats are comfortable and you can actually hear the announcements over the PA system. The Capitol Corridor offers a cafe car which we did not need, but that is a good feature. Once we arrived in Sacramento we had a bit of a walk to Old Town where we had planned to have lunch. We did not check out the Sacramento Amtrak station until our return trip. It looks newer from the outside than it does on the inside. Large waiting room with very uncomfortable wooden seating. The waiting area was also very warm so we waited outside where the metal seating (under shade) was clean and much more comfortable than the wooden seats inside. Signage on train arrivals and track numbers were clear. Very helpful as you need to know which one of six tracks and, of course, which direction you are headed. Plan on a few minutes to walk to your train. The walk way is nicely landscaped. Much nicer than anything I have seen with BART. All in all a great way to head to Sacramento (or other destinations) if you don't want to drive.
