This is the second time i have used this kennel and this is the last. The first time i asked the kennel to provide feedback on how my animal did with the pool since she loves to play with the water from the hose. When i picked her up there was no feedback provided and when i asked which attendant was with her the answer was that they did not know. Ok fine. I didn't like it but the dog was fine. The second experience was absolutely horrible. I brought them a happy, and very energetic animal and i picked up an injured dog whose feet were so worn she could barely walk into my home and she has several small lacerations on her head. The cuts were from another animal that were the result of an incident in group playtime, this is what i was told over the phone. Ands i gave the voicemail. When i talked to the manager i asked why was she in group play since i specified she not be placed in group since she was a rescue and while being an absolute sweetheart she does not appear to play well with others. This information was provided at least twice to the kennel. The manager looked at her file and no notes existed that indicated this. As far as her feet go, the condition of her pads is something that develops over a couple of days. Has any attendant even briefly checked her feet after the pool or considered how she was walking she could have been spared this very unnecessary pain and discomfort she is currently experiencing. I was told by the manager that my dog was seen tip toeing after the pool, this is a understatement of how she is currently walking, she can't walk This unfortunately is a tale of inadequate supervision, and poor care at best. Do not take your animal here. On the plus side i received a 10% discount to make up for their mismanaged care of my dog. We have used this kennel several times over the last 3 years and have our dogs profile in their system. Up until now it has been fine. When I dropped off my dog last Wednesday, the young man working the counter told me I could not leave my dogs blanket with him because there's kennel cough going around and somehow that spreads it (even though my dog himself was there). Then he read me my dogs profile from 3 weeks earlier and said "2 cups of food twice a day and extra playtime" and I said "yes". My wife picked him up this morning (5 days later) and was not charged for playtime. They asked my wife if my dog had anything with him when she picked him up. Are dog blankets allowed or not? My wife spoke with the manager and she said it must have been miscommunication about the playtime. Did he even get fed? I called and asked for the owner to express my disappointment and wanted the young man held accountable. I was told the owner would call me. 2 hours later the person I spoke with called and said she spoke to the owner. The owner told her to tell me she was off til Thursday and would call me then. I am extremely saddened by the lack of customer service and care we received and won't be using countryside kennels in the future. read more

My dog was full of urine and wet when I picked her up today. She stunk so bad, we had to give her 2 baths and wash the inside of the car. There is no way they let her out for the extra walks and TLC package we paid for we paid for. No excuse for a dog coming home like this. read more

My experience was from Ok to terrible. The first experience was ok and expensive, but they pick up and drop my dogs back without any issue. The second time was terrible; I asked for the grooming service for my dog; She is a border collie double coat, but they trimmed her hair very short. They said it what they understood, but you should know that a double coat dog shouldn't be cut if you are a professional in the service. So if the people misunderstood somebody should double-check because it's not healthy for your dog. The third time it was totally disappointing because I was away. The person only has to open the door, and my puppy would walk to them. Still, they were concert about covid. They need somebody to give the dog directly BUT wait. There is more risk of covid if you contact people than not having contact with people, or is there another CDC guidance that I don't know? I was really frustrated because they don't show any flexibility in their stupid rules, so I canceled. I hope anybody who sees this won't use the service, pretty lousy customer services. And I am sure that they will answer this review, but only answer my question, Why being in contact with people is less risk for covid than no having contact with people and just pick the dog? read more

Anyone who owns a pet can attest: finding an adequate boarding facility that doesn't smell horrid or have runs the size of a shoebox can be challenging. So, when I found Countryside Kennels, I was elated! Located in Calvert County, it's not the most convenient for those living close to DC. However, if you are traveling out of BWI, it's less than an hour's drive to the airport. Countryside offers both dog and cat boarding, though only my dogs have stayed there. The operation is situated on 15 acres, family-owned and operated. Some of the family members even live on the grounds next to the kennel. The runs are extremely clean, large enough to house 2-3 large dogs and have outdoor access. They also have large outdoor pens so dogs aren't cooped up all day in the small runs. For smaller dogs, they offer a quiet room with smaller crates. A pool was built in the last year where water-loving dogs can have a supervised swim (for a fee). The cattery is a huge room in the upstairs portion of the building, so it stays relatively quiet. There is a huge floor-to-ceiling window for cats to stare out all day. Each cat gets individual daily exercise time outside their crates. As with all "pet resorts", Countryside offers a menu of add-on services. Everything from moonlight walks to frisbee sessions to toothbrushing. They do charge extra for treats and to administer medication, which I think is a bit excessive. You can also schedule grooming services at the time of booking so your pet comes home smelling great! The kennel also employs an up-to-date software systems that tracks all pets in their care. Each pet gets a waterproof collar with name, breed and contact information. Overall, the staff is loving and attentive with dogs and cats. Our four dogs always come back happy and healthy! read more

I will never use this kennel again. I boarded my dog for 8 days. I paid for her to have additional playtime, additional walks, and pool time which costed me almost $700. When she was picked her up from the kennel and got home shortly after I noticed she was not acting herself. I took her to the vet and she is very sick with a high fever (103.2), dehydrated and has kennel cough. She is on IV antibiotic and fluids. When I called the kennel to let them know the response was " Angie the owner took care of Princess the entire time because she was a very picky eater and had to be hand fed with hamburger and rice. There is no other indication that Princess was sick. We would have called you and let you know if that were the case." However I was not called and told that she was being hand fed with hamburger and rice and that was never noted when she was picked up either. The only call I got was on July 7 from Brenda saying that she had become picky with her dinner and they wanted to know if they could give her a sensitive stomach food. That is very different than saying she was being hand fed with hamburger and rice. Just be aware if you decide to place your four-legged family member at this place. read more

I've searched high and low for a professional, reasonably priced, convenient and indoor/outdoor boarding facility for my dog for over a year. Believe me, I've seen them all! Finally, I've found one that checks off all the marks. I've just returned from a 10 day trip and am so happy with the service my dog had at CK. Most importantly, he came back to me happy and healthy, without any problems. I will use CK again. Despite being an hour away from DC, CK offers a reliable and convenient doggy delivery service straight to your door. I was very pleased that when my dog was picked up, a personalized collar with his name and details was already printed out and ready to put on him. The staff worked with my return schedule and dropped my dog off a little later than normal without any problems. Reasonably priced, they also let your dog out a few times a day for puppy playtime outdoors allowing your dog to do its business where its supposed to, outdoors! My phone was stolen on my trip so I could only email the owner to ask about Tito. She was very responsive with updates and agreed to his later drop off delivery schedule. If you are looking for reliable, reasonable and convenient boarding in the D.C. area, look no further! read more

First and last time at this facility. After a week long stay, our dog came home in distress, with a strong case of kennel cough and some skin lesions contracted from other dogs there (high vet bill!) On top of that lack of communication from the staff prior and during the stay, plus inflated bill with add-on services not performed. When asked for a bill adjustment, one of the owners provided a response without willingness of partial reimbursement. Very disappointed. read more

I would give negative stars if I could. If you care about your pet, so not bring them here. I was referred by a friend to come here as she said they should be able to book a grooming appointment for him fairly quickly. They were able to accommodate me on this and were very polite during the booking process. I brought him in at 9am. They asked me what kind of haircut I would like. I specifically instructed to shave the body if they had to especially since it is summer and to leave his face alone including his ears. I even let them know ahead of time that he was recently groomed two weeks prior. I called around 11am or so to check on him since I was waiting around the area since I do not live near there. They said he was not ready and they would call me. Then, around 12:45, I went inside in order to check on him once again. I expressed that I do not live in the area and if it was going to be much longer then I would leave . She said it would be another 45 minutes to an hour. I received a call back around 1:43. This is almost 5 hours later for a small puppy. Of course, I had already left. We received a call from Meghan around 3pm stating that "he had been ready and just to let you know we close at 4pm". This was the wrong thing to say as we were literally down the street at that time coming to pick him up and now since it's time for you to go home you want to rush us to pick him up even though we had been waiting for hours. We went in to let her know that we have been waiting for around over 4 hours in the area and we do not live here. This is when the situation got worse. They gave me the total for the service which was $90. They brought him out and had absolutely disregarded any of the simple instructions that I provided for his grooming. They cut off all of his hair! I had simply instructed them not to cut the hair on his face and ears. When addressing this issue, the receptionist said "it will grow back in a few weeks". I then said, so am I going to be compensated for this mistake? She then called the owner. The owner was of no help. She refused to give me some sort of refund for them not following my instructions! I told them I was dissatisfied with their services so I should be compensated. The owner said that he was difficult and they had to have two people groom him. Then she said he was matted under the chin so that is why they cut his facial hair. I told her that is incorrect as he had just been to another groomwe that said he was not matted under his chin. I can confirm he was not matted under his chin and my friend who referred me who just babysat him the precious day confirmed that he did not have any matts under his chin. She also stated that she has been grooming for 30 years. So you mean to tell me out of all of your 30 years of grooming, you have never come across an excited (difficult) puppy during the grooming process. So not only did you lie about their being matts under his chin, you refused yo refund me for your mistakes! On top of that, he smelled better when he went in than when he came out! I could've taken him to petco to receive better services $30 less and would've received exactly what I asked for. This is unacceptable, unprofessional and it surpasses disappointment. Not only do you not understand that the customer is always right but you actually had the audacity to lie about where the matts were located. I examine my fur baby everyday so I know exactly where his matts were. I am still looking to speak with the manager for further discussion, however, she did not want to speak to me directly. Therefore, my friend called and they said they would pass it along to the manager for further review. Not only is my friend upset that this happened since she referred me and he's her nephew but I am as well since I now have to look at my fur baby butterball naked for the next month or so. I am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied. I will update if there is any solution. read more

Recently took our cat to Countryside Kennels to be groomed. When I called to make the appointment, I said, "Do not trim his claws. He has Soft Paws on." Dropped him off the day of his appointment and again said, "Do not trim his claws. He is wearing Soft Paws." Even saw the receptionist write the note. When I brought him home I checked him over from head to toe and discovered that his claws were BLEEDING and the Soft Paws were MISSING (a few were dangling off). It was a horrible mess. Had to take the cat to the vet to get him checked it looked so awful. Called Countryside Kennels. The groomer didn't notice the note, and didn't know what Soft Paws were. She had trimmed the black plastic thinking it was the cat's claws because some cats have black claws (that's what she told me). I still don't know how his claws became a bloody mess, nor how the Soft Paws were ripped off. IMHO, a groomer that doesn't know what Soft Paw are needs more education. Furthermore, I'm stunned that they didn't notice the blood. I will say that the groomer sounded upset on the phone when she learned how she had injured my cat, and she thought that Countryside Kennels would pay the vet bill (but they didn't need to because the vet was a friend of the kennel and he didn't charge for the visit). read more

My dog did left with kennel cough, once and no matter how much food I bring, oddly there is NEVER any leftovers to bring back which leads me to think my pet isn't being feed like I requested. read more

We adopted a rescue about a month ago and started taking her to Countryside for Daycare right away. The price is reasonable, everyone is friendly, and it is close to our home. I was extremely anxious when I dropped her off the first day because I didn't want her to feel abandoned again, so Rebecca told me to call to see how she was doing. Needless to say she was fine and she can't wait for me to get dressed in the mornings so I can take her to play with all of her friends! Awesome place! read more

These place is awesome! They are taking marvelous care of an undernourished Great Dane for a few days as he waits for transport to his foster home. When I brought him in, the entire staff greeted him, petted him, and fussed over him. They were very professional, competent, and knowledgeable. Harley is getting the attention he needs from caring people. Very impressed with this place. Clean, quiet, and lots of day care customers were taking home happy dogs. read more

I've been using Countryside kennels for 4 years now. They know our dog by name as soon as we walk in the door. I have on two occasions taken my cat there as well (longer than a weekend trip). My dog is pretty happy here. We get her the bigger kennel room with the toddler bed. We also give her additional playtime and an evening walk (we walk a lot at home, so this is natural for her). They have a pool, but our dog doesn't like the water. They had other additional features to let your dog outside. But I understand they do 3, 30 minute outside sessions to let the dogs exercise and potty in a normal boarding day. Anything additional is your cost. The times I've gone to the cattery room to help get our cat settled, I find an amazing tree top room. Our cat gets to sit in her kennel and look out the windows at the birds in the tree branches right outside. I get my dog groomed before we pick her up. They have two main options, and I've used both. Cost is based on the size of your pet. Full groom (most expensive) includes bath, brushing, and nails trimmed. Kennel bath (about half the cost) is just a bath. I live equal distance to Countryside Kennels and Perfect pet resort, but we just like everyone at Countryside Kennels, our pets are happy there and we've always had good service. read more

We have used Countryside in years past for our prior dog and were happy with them. We needed to board our current dog sort of suddenly for his first overnight stay away. We brought him in Wednesday morning on our way to Philadelphia. We were told that we must pick him up by 1 pm Thursday (New Years Eve) or he would have to stay another night. We planned on being home by 5 pm at the earliest, so we understood that he would have to spend Thursday night in the kennel. We were told that the New Years Day hours would only be from 3 - 5 pm. When I went to get him I was charged for 3 days because of THEIR holiday hours. I don't begrudge them taking their holiday vacations as they see fit, even though it was an inconvenience to me. But, we were not told, and it should not be, that we would be charged an extra day for a dog that I was ready and anxious to get, but had to wait 22 hours to pick up because of their holiday schedule. This would be akin to trying to check out of a hotel room at 10 am and being told that the check-out clerk would only be at the desk at 6 pm, then finding that they charged you for an extra day because you didn't check out by 10 am. The care of my dog seemed fine; they seem to do their core job well, but I don't feel that they deserve a financial windfall because of the holiday hours they established. If you have a dog who is old, has special needs, health concerns, anxiety and/or stresses, THIS IS NOT THE KENNEL FOR YOU. NO INTEGRITY. We had an awful experience with Countryside not just once, but twice! While it is a lovely facility they are CLEARLY not equipped to handle older/special needs animals. My dog is 17 years old and other than being deaf she's in amazing shape. However, her stress and anxiety levels have gotten very high with age and deafness. We boarded our dog at Countryside and she came home limping with very red and inflamed pads on her paws, an eye infection and severe weight loss. I called (daily) to check on her throughout her stay was told each time "she is eating well and doing great". We decided to give Countryside another chance with the thought that they were now more in tune to our concerns and our dogs' needs. I was adamant about the staff being up front and honest about her condition when I called to check on her and was clear and direct about reminding Stephanie at the front desk of the previous problems we encountered when we picked up our dog after the last stay. She repeatedly assured me that our dog would be monitored and well taken care of as well as honest updates when I called. None of her promises were kept. NOT ONE!!! We picked up our dog to find she had lost a lot of weight and got an "oh, by the way, our groomer just noticed per pads were red and inflamed". (Again!!!) The dog was blatantly limping. How could they have not noticed this the entire week? She became VERY weak and lethargic the following day so we took her to an emergency animal hospital called MASH (I give them 5 stars). We really thought our beloved dog was going to die. Two days (and $1,400) later, thank God, our dog came home. I was told by Stephanie if there were any vet bills related to her stay we would be reimbursed. I sent TWO emails to Countryside Kennels regarding the vet bill. No response at all. Not even to address my dog's condition under their care. To Summarize: a) Insufficient (if any) attention was given to our dog as promised. (It's not that complicated, she sleeps a lot). b) We were flat out lied to on a daily basis when we called to check on her status. read more

I just wanted to share my recent experience with Countryside Kennels on here. I think this place is good in theory, but it appears that they have possibly outgrown their ability to provide a promised level of service at the dog's expense. When I dropped the dogs off on Friday they were whisked away from me and put away in an outdoor run, but I was told that after a tour I'd be able to say goodbye. On the tour I noticed that all the standard size kennels where they would be staying were full, but I was assured that even though they appeared full, that "we move dogs around constantly to meet our needs because we are so busy, but yes this is where they will be". Then we go to the outdoor run where they are and there was poop that looked old, but may have been from my dogs- so I decided to ignore it, but there was also BLOODY DISCHARGE on the rocks. When I asked about it she thought it was my dogs, which I thought was unlikely based on that I had just walked them before arriving and had not seen any blood in their urine. The kennel assistant told me that they clean the runs between dogs, but clearly they had missed it and that possibly it had been a pervious occupant that was in heat. In any case I asked that they be moved to a clean run or kennel immediately. The girl said this would be done but when she asked another girl to do it, the response was "where do you want me to put them though, the kennels are full." To which my tour guide told me she'd figure something out and told me that it would be cleaned. I was in a tight spot trying to leave for the weekend, so I had little choice but to take her word for it. When I called to check on them a few hours later the receptionist was quick to respond without hesitation that they were all settled without any acknowledgment or apology for the unclean run upon drop off, making me wonder if she even took the time to look up who I was calling about. Then when I picked them up this morning, one of my dogs was COVERED IN POOP. He had brown "dirt" all up his back, on his chest and on top of his head, which upon smelling was clearly poop. Clearly obvious because my dog's head and chest are white. The receptionist only after I remarked on his condition did suggest the kennel assistant take him back to grooming for a spot clean. I declined because I just wanted to take them home and bathe them. He would have needed a whole bath. He was gross. And I understand dogs get messy (though in 7 years of boarding him we have never had this issue, and he has never been one to roll in poop. But even if he had- or maybe it was from his playtime (which was 2 days earlier on Saturday!)- how could they not notice and clean him up. I mean this is a "luxury" boarding facility. To board two dogs, both under 40 lbs in one shared basic standard 4x6 kennel Friday through Monday was more than $200! We have never experienced such filth, lack of attention to detail, and such unapologetic disregard for any responsibility. I was told upon complaint that they would speak to the kennel manager and call me back, I'm still waiting on the call. Like I said, I think this place is good in theory- they sell you on all the bells and whistles, dog bone shaped swimming pool, upgraded kennels have toddler beds and TVs, etc. but they seem to be unable to meet a dog's basic needs of CLEANLINESS! So if you take your dog there, just be aware to see where they are actually being put in all that shuffling around and how clean things are actually being kept. read more

Meh. Exactly how I would rate my experience with this kennel. Having used various kennels over the years due to job relocations, I have to say this time was not worth the investment and time spent in driving to this kennel. My two dogs came back tired from an extended stay which is great but definitely not happy as they usually are. Apparently they didn't have an appetite either while there which also leads me to believe they weren't as happy as previous places we have left our dogs with. Maybe if we purchased the additional services that were pushed extremely hard at dropoff (such as extra playtime or care), more time would have been spent to make sure our dogs were happy. Well, I think there stay that cost more than our roundtrip airfare out of the country should have been sufficient to at least cover that. read more

We have 2 dogs a Corgi and Shetland Sheep dog. We had the corgi in doggie day care since she was little. The day care really assisted us in potty training her. Both of our pups stay there pretty regularly because we travel frequently. The staff is wonderful. There has been times they are about to close and they wait for us so we don't have to get charged an additional day. Our Corgi loves the pool and they both love the dog Bar B Q's. Countryside gives a new meaning to loving a pet. They really care and have done a wonderful job. I've had the girls both groomed there as well and never had a problem. The sheltie gets a full grooming and the corgi a sanitary but the groomer was very thorough and nothing better than coming back after a trip to be greeted by clean pups! read more

love this facilityl kennels are clean and spacious, my dog loves going to see "friends" for daycare. staff are friendly & caring. they recently remodelled to now have suites available for less than many charge for kennels. my dog loves it, i highly recommend going for a visit. your pet will not be disappointed!
