I've been in business with the Dunkirk Animal Hospital for a few months now, unfortunately due to my pup having new accidents and reoccurring bladder issues. Today she had an appointment and I found out that she has a bladder mass, covering about 1/3 of her kidney. As the veterinarian takes away my 11 year old for testing, she is brought back to me still smiling. The staff was very welcoming upon us entering and even entertained my Miki's (breed) sassy ways, being too excited for attention to step on the scale. Lol. Even after exams and giving me her results, I was given so many options moving forward. I felt comfortable about every option given and just.. want to think of what's next. Informative, very professional AND sanitary building. I hope to not return too soon, but I know who I'm calling if need be! Shay and I left with not the best news, but hope that everything will be okay. Dunkirk Animal Hospital has the best care (and treats)!

My dog has been seen at this hospital for the past seven years. The doctors are good the staff and techs nice and I've never had a problem, until today. My dog was scheduled to have a growth removed from his elbow and have his teeth cleaned. When scheduling the appointment, I was quoted a price for both procedures. After dropping my dog off at 7:15 this morning, I received a phone call from an office staff member telling me that the quote that was given to me was low. (Found out during my conversation, it was the same staff member who quoted that figure. ) I was shocked to hear that because when dropping off my dog, I confirmed the costs with that same person and nothing was said to me at that time. The difference was $234! The original quote, was already high to begin with. Needless to say, this was very upsetting. I ended opting out and found another reputable Vet in the county. Got another quote which is considerably lower than what was quoted to me at THIS place. And this time, I got it in writing! When shopping around in person for a new vet, I found out that the wellness checkups, shots and other tests that I've paid for in the past are also higher than other animal hospitals in the county. My advice to anyone looking for a good vet is to shop around for wellness exam costs, get any procedure cost in writing and get referrals. In the long run it could save you lots of $$ and hassle.

Both cats had very different issues. The first cat was having hard time walking, head was tilted and not eating much. I thought possible stroke. The Veternsrian did quick exam kept saying he was stumped then turned the cat upside down looking at her eyes said that might show him something. all the vet could say was I wish one of the other vets was here I have no idea what's wrong with this cat and no way to tell if she had a stroke. Then he suggested we take upward five headshot ( x-rays) to see if that would show him anything. My response was if you don't know what we're looking for I'm not going to the expense of an x-raying her head when it could be something else. He then went out of the office came back in and handed me some papers he got off the internet saying this is what it could be!!! In hindsight, I should've seen the incompetence and walked out of the appointment should have walked out of the appointment. On to next cat... The second cat was straining to go to the litter box, not eating much and could not jump up on couch or chair like normal and was sneezing. Vet did quick exam didn't want the stool sample I brought. He said looked like cold virus. He went to leave the room and the assistant said what about the antibiotics u want her take home his response oh yes and told her what to get. The assistant suggested to both of us that perhaps when the other vet arrives she called (the true cat vet) she would ask her about the issue and see is she could call me. The vet response that's a good idea. Now understand this, this vet barely spoke to directly to me instead he spoke to the assistant as if I was a by stander. I had to keep asking questions he had a definite problem working with clients. I am a true animal person I have a farmette and have had cats and dogs my entire life never have I encountered such blatant rude behavior and above all else This veterinarian was totally incompetent! When I got to the check out counter the receptionist handed me a quote for having the first cat X-rays I.e. between $500.00-800 to start with. For what purpose??? I noticed the so called veterinarian was joking around with the front office girls talking about carpentry and resin work he wanted to do at home never bothered to say anything to me when I left. Dr Brown who previously owned this hospital for many, many years would never have allowed this vet in his practice. Although this vet was not the veterinarian that owns the practice the owner needs to seriously look at who he hires to represent him. I will never come back nor will I recommend and I have told all my friends what happened as well. Oh...the other Veterinarian never contacted me nor did anyone else from Calvert animal hospital. The cats were then taken to my usual vet problems located and solved as much as possible my regular vet said I'll call u in two days to check up if U need me before then please call back! What a difference in professionalism experience. I would rate this experience less than one star if I could.

When i picked her up there was no feedback provided and when i asked which attendant was with her the answer was that they did not know. Ok fine. I didn't like it but the dog was fine. The second experience was absolutely horrible. I brought them a happy, and very energetic animal and i picked up an injured dog whose feet were so worn she could barely walk into my home and she has several small lacerations on her head. The cuts were from another animal that were the result of an incident in group playtime, this is what i was told over the phone. Ands i gave the voicemail. When i talked to the manager i asked why was she in group play since i specified she not be placed in group since she was a rescue and while being an absolute sweetheart she does not appear to play well with others. This information was provided at least twice to the kennel. The manager looked at her file and no notes existed that indicated this. As far as her feet go, the condition of her pads is something that develops over a couple of days. Has any attendant even briefly checked her feet after the pool or considered how she was walking she could have been spared this very unnecessary pain and discomfort she is currently experiencing. I was told by the manager that my dog was seen tip toeing after the pool, this is a understatement of how she is currently walking, she can't walk This unfortunately is a tale of inadequate supervision, and poor care at best. Do not take your animal here. On the plus side i received a 10% discount to make up for their mismanaged care of my dog. The photos show her head after care on the left, and before on the right

When I dropped off my dog last Wednesday, the young man working the counter told me I could not leave my dogs blanket with him because there's kennel cough going around and somehow that spreads it (even though my dog himself was there). Then he read me my dogs profile from 3 weeks earlier and said "2 cups of food twice a day and extra playtime" and I said "yes". My wife picked him up this morning (5 days later) and was not charged for playtime. They asked my wife if my dog had anything with him when she picked him up. Are dog blankets allowed or not? My wife spoke with the manager and she said it must have been miscommunication about the playtime. Did he even get fed? I called and asked for the owner to express my disappointment and wanted the young man held accountable. I was told the owner would call me. 2 hours later the person I spoke with called and said she spoke to the owner. The owner told her to tell me she was off til Thursday and would call me then. I am extremely saddened by the lack of customer service and care we received and won't be using countryside kennels in the future.

Most importantly, after my military discount, the free package of necessities, and the same day appointment, I had the breeder come out to show me how to keep my little boy as bright white and clean as when I received him. Each of the dogs I saw were bright white, well groomed, I reviewed the AKC, CKC purebred pedigree registrations, all vaccination and vet records were in order, I even asked about the cray to prove each Maltese had four to five puppies a litter.
