Took some time out to have lunch. There's a menu change but I forgot to take a picture. Bread service is monkey bread. I chose the Chicken & Dumplings because I came in for Pot Pie. Well, it's still Pot Pie with biscuits on top lol. You can call it whatever you want. But there was no dumplings to be seen. Plus dumplings don't have potatoes in it. Still very good. Food was hot. Had a wonderful experience at the Country Store and Kitchen! Our party of 5 was seated right away with a warm smile by the hostess. Their bread basket was full of warm cornbread & biscuits, butter and jam. Yummy! We ordered and appetizers of fried green tomatoes and freshly made pork rinds with pimento cheese on the side. Both appetizers were delicious! Love, love them! Our entrees consisted of Hamburger with pimento cheese, chicken fried chicken, fried catfish, hamburger steak and for our 11 year old granddaughter birthday girl a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was really good, served hot, and we were all served at the same time! Our waitress Carmilla was outstanding! She was very attentive and polite. Great service! read more

A staple of our annual trips to Callaway; the biscuits alone are worth the drive and both breakfast and lunch are consistently delicious. Not many options for those with gluten sensitivity but for the rest of us, a homey, filling, and delicious meal is always on the menu. Bonus? The view overlooking the gentle mountains and friendly service...they only tease a LITTLE when you order unsweet tea ;) . The store is also a great place to stock up on souvenirs and gifts with local flavor, we will usually grab a few stocking stuffers on our way out. read more

A must-visit place for us whenever we come to Callaway Gardens We have visited the Gardens several times over the last 20 years. The gardens have certainly changed over time but the restaurant remains a constant. It is located outside the park right off the Martha Berry Highway (SR 27). It is on the east side of the gardens and at a point where the road and restaurant location gives it a good view over the land that Callaway gardens sits on and the other side of the ridge from the gardens. There is parking right outside the building and across the road. You enter (and exit) through a gift shop. Beyond that (visible from the front entrance) is a hostess and the restaurant. It has seating both against the windows overlooking the gardens and a little farther back. We were seated quickly without any reservation. The tone is wood tables, wood chairs and country store feel. It was clean inside and the tables were bussed quickly. The waitress was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The breakfast menu is the standard fare of eggs, hash, pancakes and french toast. Rangin from $11-$19. They serve an assortment of breads for you to try while you wait and enjoy the view. I ordered the eggs and bacon. They came out quickly and were quite good. Overall, I would recommend this to fellow travellers visiting the area and I plan to visit again when I stop by the gardens next time read more

This is our second time to country kitchen at callaway, first time everything was great. This time not so much. I ordered the country sunrise sampler and my hash browns are called my eggs are overcooked and cold and my bacon is cold. The grits are lukewarm and tasteless. Ordered hot tea, glass for a refill the lady says yes I can get you some more hot water so service not so fabulous. Husband is eating the steak and eggs. He wanted an extra egg added to his breakfast instead of doing that the server brought the standard breakfast which is steak and two eggs and then a plate of three eggs. This is my third time here and I do enjoy this place but I have to say it can be a hit or miss. This is a type of Cracker Barrel store. Small state with all types of things with country cooking that really has potential. My daughter's chicken pot pie was unfortunately cold. The biscuits and cornbread were awesome. Overall this is a good place to eat and spend time with my family. Service was good and friendly. It's a big enough place to hold a group as well. read more

We came here for lunch on a Sunday around 12:15 p.m. It was quite crowded and there was an indeterminate wait. They do the wait by # of tables ahead of you rather than providing an estimated time. We ended up waiting around 25 minutes for a table. If I had it to do over again, I'd just drive the 3 miles into Pine Mountain and choose from several places there. They were busy but it seemed like the limiting factor wasn't the staff (there seemed to be sufficient servers) but the kitchen (volume of meals that could be cranked out in a given time slot). Plus there were some larger tables that could not be reconfigured for smaller parties. The food itself was okay. I had a vegetable plate and my wife got a trout dish. Parking is free either in the adjacent lot or across the busy road in a secondary lot. read more

I spoke with the manager on January 26 to coordinate breakfast for a large group on February 7. I specifically stated that I wanted to plan ahead so there would be no misunderstandings or hurt feelings for either party. He asked how many people to expect, and I explained that I could not give an exact number but anticipated approximately 16 vehicles with 2-3 people each. I also told him I could not provide an exact arrival time but that we would arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. There were no follow-up phone calls made to cancel or change these plans; therefore, he still should have expected our group. We arrived well within the time frame he was given. My group arrived at 10:22 a.m. and was informed that our seating had been given away. I then spoke with the manager, who stated that he did not have any of the information we discussed and that he gave our seats away because he did not think we were coming. He denied having any knowledge of our prior conversation. However, the manager had my personal cell phone number and could have called to confirm our arrival. Additionally, there was a section of the restaurant that was closed off. When I asked about it, he stated that he did not have the staff to open it. As a manager who knew a large group was expected, he failed to adequately staff the restaurant to accommodate us. As a result, my group of 32 people was turned away, and we found another restaurant that welcomed our business. I will not be returning to this location. read more

The wait time is awful. They tell you one time that lunch will start serving and come back after you waited for that time ....give you a time that is 45 minutes longer. The service is horrible. They are not friendly and have a smart answer for anything you ask them. Two other customers told us the same as we were walking in. Also, they waited for hour and half on food and it was served cold.We have been coming to this restaurant for years and it has never been this bad before. The food was thirty minutes late and cold!!! Manager came out didn't apologize just said how busy they were verses last year as if that had anything to do with our order!!!! My friend sent it back. Who wants cold grits to go with cold shrimp. My Veggie Burger order was wrong. I said nothing but cheese and it had everything on it. I hate onions or the smell! It was lukewarm at best and the sweet potato fries were lukewarm at best. Won't be retuning there. This was my second and final bad experience there!!! I went here with my parents at around 2:40 on a Saturday. We tried to get a table, but we couldn't because they stopped sitting everyone. They close at 3, so we were very angry and disappointed with the service. The woman at the host stand acted like she didn't care that we drove 2 hours to go here. Moral of the story, don't go here at 2:40 and expect a table. If you advertise that you are open until 3, you should seat everyone until 3. read more

The gift shop is very cute, although quite pricey. I loved the environment-- wood everywhere, a great view outside and nice wait staff who were decently responsive with requests. Our waiter seemed to be slightly overworked, but there wasn't much issue in the way of service. Highly recommend the chicken pot pie and the strawberry shortcake (which honestly needs to be renamed because what it actually is, is completely different). The chicken pot pie filling an amazing homemade filling with potatoes, carrots, peas, potatoes, and chicken. Very warm and cozy. The "strawberry shortcake" is a brown sugar biscuit (being from Ohio, our table had a bit of discussion as to what this meant. Think a deep fried pillow of dough that tastes like a funnel cake). This is then served with a beautiful, homemade, fresh strawberry sauce and whipped cream. It was quite the surprise when we tasted it, and I am definitely going back for more! I will warn that the women's bathroom needs to be updated a little-- the handicap stall has a 1.5" gap that someone can very easily look through while washing their hands and it is extremely uncomfortable. read more

Good food and the prices are reasonable, especially considering it's a Callaway store. My big complaint would be portion size. I ordered the country fried steak and I'm used to seeing Texas-sized portions as big as a dinner plate. This was the smallest country fried steak I've ever had, about the size of a saucer. The muscadine preserves were very good and the sweet cornbread, served in. A basket for the table with biscuits, was a hit as well. Be advised that the restaurant is currently open only for breakfast and lunch and closes at 3pm. read more

Like a small Cracker Barrel restaurant, this place sells gifts and meals. The dining room is clean, service friendly and there is a lovely, elevated view. The menu is very limited, however we all enjoyed our breakfasts. Four stars instead of 5 for limited options and the fudge is from another state. We love to buy local when traveling. Across the street there is separate parking at on overlook area of Pine Mountain. read more

We had a late lunch at the Country Store and Kitchen today, trying to relive a memory from 30 years prior, when we brought our parents here to dine, overlooking Callaway Gardens. We made it just in time for the lunch cutoff and requested a window seat. We were told, by the hostess, that there weren't any available. I thought that perhaps she didn't see the empty table that I saw, so I pointed it out to her. She told me she could only seat a party of 5 or more at the window table and proceeded to take us to a table near the back. Our sweet waitress, Krista, asked us what she could get for us and I told her, "seats at that empty table by the window." She actually went to speak to her manager about moving us and the manager told her No. Our waitress brought us fresh baked biscuits with jelly and corn muffins, then we had a very tasty burger with onion ring, pimento cheese and crunchy bacon. The french fries were done just right and collard greens were good. It would have been a perfect memory, had the the manager been so kind as to honor our simple request. I couldn't help but notice that table stayed empty. I spoke with the manager before we left. I completed our waitress for good service, but told the manager that she sure left a bitter place in my heart by not allowing us to sit in the window when she knew that table would stay empty, as we were the last couple seated before the lunch cutoff. Her reply was that it was important that she stay "consistent." That, dear manager, is very poor customer service. Be kind every chance you get. Honor simple requests. read more

Awful customer service. We called ahead about breakfast and was told we serve til 11 and no wait. We arrived at 1020 and was told not taking anymore people for breakfast and was advised we could stay for lunch. Lunch started at noon but they would not take our name. Ehhhh. Not that thrilling. Service was good though. We had a party of 10. There were maybe 3 other tables seated for dinner while we were there. The chicken pot pie was weird but ok, the biscuits and mini corn muffins were good. The mac n cheese had zero flavor. All the fries at the resort are flat and hard, these at least had a little seasoning. The view was good but we weren't seated by the view. It's too bad the resort food is kind of bad. Great country style restaurant. This isn't a Michelin star restaurant but is exactly what they say they are; a country kitchen. I had the country fried chicken with Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. The Mac n cheese could have used some more seasoning. The biscuits and little corn muffins were a nice touch as well as the fruit preserves. After a long hike at the FDR trail, my husband and I were so hungry and looked forward for the meal. He raved so much about this place because he visited the restaurant prior. We thought we ordered a steak since on the menu said "hamburger steak with angus beef", and it came out with patty instead of actual steak. We ordered both of our meals, sauce on the side but all the sauce was drenched on top of the food. All the food came out room temperature to cool; sweet potato fries, fried okra, and fried squash, the only two things that were decent were jam that came with biscuits and coke. a group of women coming off the trail from backpacking. Apparently we arrived just between breakfast & lunch, we were told we couldn't order until 1130 because of the"change over". Fine, a 15 minute wait before we could order, so we waited. we placed our orders to go due to distancing, even though the dining room was well over half empty. Orders were all taken and we were told 15-20 minute. Again, fine. except it wasn't. It took an hour for our food. AN. HOUR. For 5 to go lunches. And some had food that wasn't very warm so it obviously had been sitting a while. Most of what any of us ordered would be pre-frozen and dropped in the fryer. Then a couple of sandwiches made up. We were all very hungry and frustrated by the time the food was ready at about 12:50. Ridiculous. If we had been told it was an hour before food would be packaged, we may or may not have stayed. But the hostess lied about how long it would take. Maybe she didn't know, maybe she did. Maybe the cooks had to drive to town to buy something- they certainly took enough time for that. we love this place. it sits right near the top of Pine Mountain and offers panotamic views of the valley below. The food was really good. I had the fried green tomato sandwich on toasted sourdough bread and my husband had a vegetable plate. My sandwich had sliced red onion, cucumber slices as well as a delicious tomato accompanied by fries and my husband's vegetable plate included potato salad, squash casserole, and collards. A generous basket of warm biscuits and cornbread was brought out with our drinks before the meal. Service was quick and our server made sure we had everything we needed. We also bought stone ground white grits to cook at home. These grits are the very best I have ever ha. They are made right there in Callaway Gardens and taste like childhood. we have been buying them for years and the quality never slips. Always perfect. we also bought some muscadine jelly, another product made with care at Callaway Gardens. I will say that these products are not cheap, but I expect to pay for quality and quality is what you get at Callaway Gardens. read more
