On Saturday we ordered our food at 7:30 pm and we received it at 8:30 pm. By the time we finished eating it was 9:15 pm. Our Smothered Chicken had no sauce or gravy. Veggies looked to be thrown on the plate. I was so embarrassed as folks requested sauce. It took a while so when we tried to attend the Pumpkin Gala it was closed. So we wasted money on 17 tickets. Came here for a large work meeting and we dined at several of the restaurants at Calloway Gardens. We came to Piedmont Grill for dinner with a group of around 20. Service was great with fast and attentive servers and they did a great job of accommodating all of our needs. I ordered the prime rib medium rare (which looks more rare to me here but) which was really good. This dinner was so bad it will actually end up being a fond memory for the rest of our lives. Where to even begin? First of all, when I was booking dinner reservations I had options, but I called the hotel and asked for recommendations. I let them know this was my wife's 40th birthday, so they recommended "The Piedmont". It sounded stately and I took their recommendation without checking. That's my fault. When we walked up, I had a look of shock on my face and apologized to my wife, telling her I'd take her somewhere else and cancel if she wanted -- she laughed and said "no" because we wanted to go to the pumpkin lights. Guys. This place has the ambiance of a college cafeteria. Ultra bright lights and white walls, completely open concept with tables scattered throughout, a girl who absolutely hates her job as hostess and just tries to get you to order the buffet so no one has to serve your table, ultra-casual dining. The buffet is just the items on the menu, so at $45 a head and $19 for kids, you better each be eating two meals if you're getting the buffet. The warning lights flashed for me when the waitress couldn't describe what was on the charcuterie board that boasted local meats and cheeses. "Uh, they got like some strawberries and I know I seen a pepperoni on it." Good lord, this was "locally sourced from Publix. You get a few hunks of white American cheese, a few hunks of basic orange cheddar, and some Swiss. The meats were salami, pepperoni that had gone bad (half brown, off smell), and prosciutto that had been shaved in places and sliced THICK in others. My wife and I remarked on how we pictured some "chef" in the back, grabbing a hunk of prosciutto, crushing it into a tight ball, and placing it on the platter because they came packed in tiny balls. There were a couple strawberries and grapes that were crushed and had mold on them, completely rotten. The only good thing were the already-pitted marinated olives. And serve yourself this charcuterie with a dollop of strawberry jelly (Smuckers) and some untoasted, plain bread that wished it could some day be made into a crostini, staring at you sadly in its absolute beigeness. We ordered two smoked cocktails, only one was smoked. We laughed because it was so smoked that the birthday girl traded it for the unsmoked one that I got. My youngest got Mac and cheese for $9. It's 100% Kraft and was old enough that it was no longer creamy, but was starting to lump. (See photo -- man I wish I took photos of everything!) My other kiddo got flatbread pizza and it seemed to be normal. That said, it was the worst of the bunch because the rest of the night, while we were out exploring the corn maze and pumpkin lights, this girl was having bathroom emergencies, trying to find a place to quickly relieve herself in the crowd. FIVE TIMES. We had some really close calls. That sucked for her, because it was such a magical night and she was in real distress. My wife and I only had two other "small plates," the brussel sprouts and the pimento mac and cheese. There was bacon on both. The brussel sprouts bacon was almost raw, the mac was burnt. Also, we let the waitress know that the mac and cheese was flaming hot and she shrugged and said it shouldn't be. It's described as a mac and cheese with blistered tomatoes and doesn't mention the seasoning, but if I were to guess, someone meant to sprinkle it with smoked paprika and instead used cayenne. Trust me, I have a hot sauce collection and can eat the hottest there is, so this isn't Goldilocks whining that her porridge is "too hot" because someone put black pepper in it, but it was shockingly spicy. Someone else is definitely returning that dish. So in summary, the ambiance is nil, you have to fight the wait staff to even get a wine menu, the hostess was keeping guests waiting at the entrance for 20+ min in a half-empty hall (hahaha to actually be made to WAIT for this experience, poor suckers!), the food is terrible, the quality control doesn't exist, and somehow I took my wife here for her 40th birthday celebration (which wasn't even acknowledged, by the way. GO ANYWHERE ELSE. Like I said, we are already laughing about this, but I bought the breakfast buffet with our room and now I definitely don't want my kids eating any more of this food...... This place is lovely, clean and relaxing for a great dining experience. My server was Ebony who did a wonderful job at making sure I was comfortable and never let my glass become empty. Their lunch menu isn't large(which I prefer) but it offers a great variety of options. My selection was the Turkey BLT with Caesar salad which was plenty of food for lunch. The staff was very accommodating and the food was plentiful, reasonable and delicious. I plan to dine there every chance I get while I'm visiting Callaway Gardens Resort and I'll request to be seated in Ebony's section for her spectacular personality. We were told about the amazing seafood buffet, so we decided to try it out. The seafood consisted of shrimp that had been sitting in iced water so long that they were bloated and lacked flavor. I was excited to see stone crab claws, but they had obviously been previously frozen and were overcooked. Dinner was a colossal fail. Mediocre at best. When we went for dinner, the hostesses were very helpful, and our server (Carmen) was pleasant and attentive. The food wasn't fantastic. While the flavors were ok, the shrimp and grits were room temperature. We got the impression that nothing we ordered was prepared fresh. Despite that, we decided to give breakfast a try the next morning. Our hostess sat us without menus; apparently they just expect everyone to get the breakfast buffet. The problem is that it's basically a continental breakfast with an omelet/pancake station for $22. We decided to order off the menu. Our server got us some menus and dropped them off without asking what we wanted to drink. Eventually she walked up to our table from behind us to take our order without saying a word. I don't know how long she had been standing there when we realized she was there, but there was no "What can I get for you?" or anything. When we started placing our orders we were informed the flat top in the kitchen wasn't working, so we couldn't order pancakes or French toast from the menu. If we wanted pancakes we'd have to get the buffet and go to the pancake station. Because that cook top was working, but apparently it only works for buffet pancakes and not menu pancakes. Anyway, we ordered our breakfasts. The "over medium" eggs I ordered were cooked "very hard". All in all, the lodge is nice, but I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

The Prime Rib Buffet on Saturday night was average. Would I recommend? At $30/person, probably not. But, it is very convenient if you are staying at the Lodge, and you will probably find something that you like. I was excited to see a good variety of seafood options, but I was disappointed in it's quality and freshness. There were boiled shrimp (no flavor), Jonas crab claws (meat was dry and flavorless), and oysters on the half shell (fishy). The fried shrimp looked like they came straight from the frozen food section at the grocery store. The seafood was obviously carryovers from Friday night's seafood buffet. The salad bar was okay, but had limited options. Only one type of lettuce blend and two salad dressings. Cucumbers, carrots, banana peppers, and croutons. There was a faux crab salad mix, but it was tasteless. The prime rib was the highlight as it should be. It is carved and served to your liking. I had a nice piece that was cooked medium rare. They offer prepared and straight horseradish, and an ad jus sauce. The prime rib was pretty good. The dessert table offered a variety of cakes and pies. The problem was it changed throughout the evening. The same items that were on the table earlier were not replenished. We missed out on the chocolate and the lemon pie items that we saw earlier. read more

I ate in the dining room twice, once for the breakfast buffet, and once for the prime rib dinner buffet, and ordered something to-go once, while on a recent weekend visit to the Lodge and Spa. The breakfast buffet was $18. Considering that their entrees like French Toast was $14, the buffet was a good deal, although I probably wouldn't pay this much for a breakfast buffet again. I enjoyed their standard offerings, like grits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. The pancakes were made to order at the same station as the omelets. I didn't get an omelet, but should have because they looked delicious. The lady cooking was a little overwhelmed at times, they should have a second person helping her refill her ingredients, instead of having her do that and trying to cook at the same time. I think eating the same items at a Cracker Barrel would have tasted as good as if not better and for a lot less money. However, this was the only food option at the Lodge and we didn't want to drive to another restaurant. The prime rib buffet was fine. Again, expensive (but you pay for the convenience), and the food was ok. I tried a little of everything. I especially liked their rolls (I had three!), prime rib, baked chicken, rice. I was looking forward to their dessert table, but by the time I was ready for dessert, the chocolate cake was gone...and weren't replenished. There were pecan pie, peach pie (which looked undone), bread pudding (looked dry and didn't have a sauce), and two kinds of white/yellow cake. These weren't anything special. Watch out for the sweet tea! My teeth ached just remembering how sweet it was. It seemed like they used simple sugar to sweeten the tea. I had to pour water into my sweet tea to dilute it and upon refills, asked for half-and-half and then it was fine. One morning, I wanted just a simple, quick breakfast item to tie me over until lunch time. I went to the grille and asked the hostess if I could order just a bagel to-go, the menu did advertise that bagels, muffins, etc. were available a-la-cart. It took a while to get this "approved" because people don't do this often(really?), but I was able to get a blueberry bagel, toasted, and 1 mini jar of strawberry preserves, which I prepared myself (not hard at all, LOL), for $4. Good thing they waived the delivery fee, as in a room service fee of $3.50! Hello, I came down to the restaurant, and got the bagel myself! And the bagel tasted just like the ones you get at the grocery store. So, this restaurant is expensive but you pay for the convenience and the food and service are just ok. read more

We found out quite by accident and when we said something to the manager Ron he did absolutely nothing whatsoever to correct the situation. I tried their dinner buffet, which on this Monday night, consisted of salmon, beef stroganoff, mixed vegetables, rolls, a small salad bar with seafood salad, and a small dessert bar with assorted cakes. The buffet was $21. Overall, I really enjoyed the salmon and mixed vegetables, but not so much the beef stroganoff or seafood salad.The noodles and the beef were too dry, and the seafood salad had too much mayonnaise. We each had the buffet which was inclusive and the cheapest we could order other than soup and salad (which actually may have been the best deal). The buffet had Mac and cheese, rolls, mixed vegetables that were so-so, fingerling polities which tasted like hey had been sitting for quite a while, what they labeled prime rib which was totally overcooked and chicken that was dry and also tasted like it had been sitting a while. I've been here twice for the breakfast buffet and twice for dinner and have loved both times. I have stayed in several different hotels across the world while traveling for work and it is always understood that hotel restaurants are just never any good. Piedmont Grille challenges that idea and really serves a wonderful dining experience. The first time here I came with my husband and kid for dinner and just fell in love with the chicken pasta (I think it's called boursin pasta). My husband also enjoyed his food and my son enjoyed his mac and cheese. We ate early and always felt our waitress was prompt. The following day we enjoyed breakfast at the breakfast buffet and loved that there were so many options. They had a omelette bar, waffles, a pancake making area, as well as all your typical hot breakfast foods, typical cereal/bread/juices and yogurt and fruit. The second time here we were celebrating my father in law's birthday and had six adults and two babies. They promptly found a seat for us. My father in law enjoyed his prime rib and so did my mother in law. Both my sister in law and I ordered a chicken dish (she got the sweet tea chicken and I got the boursin pasta again) and we both exclaimed how delicious the chicken is. What's great is the Piedmont Grille uses local ingredients when possible so the chicken was from Springer Mountain Farms in GA. The kids also enjoyed their mac and cheese and chicken fingers. When we asked the waitress to take a picture of us because it was my father in law's birthday, she quietly went in the back to prepare a piece of cake for my father in law and surprised him with a birthday cake, candle and song a few minutes later. What a wonderful surprise! Breakfast the next morning was just as great. The waitresses were quick to remove empty plates from our table and the food was delicious. We all enjoyed our custom omelettes and my mother in law was a huge fan of the smoothies. Everyone enjoyed the meals we had at Piedmont Grille and we were thankful that we didn't have to travel outside of the hotel to get good quality food (as you know traveling by car anywhere with a toddler is difficult). We ate at Cason's, in short it was all around comically bad. Over an hour to get food, the burgers were burnt so bad my kids wouldn't eat it and they are basically feral animals. My wife ate her salad with her hands because we didn't have any silverware or napkins. It was like a bizarre Fear Factor episode. The staff was very friendly and helpful- true southern hospitality. I loved having this wonderful restaurant right inside our hotel! My boyfriend and I both decided on the prime rib for dinner which was excellent. Perfectly cooked with great sides. I would definitely come back and order this again! This was an added delight on our trip to Callaway Gardens for a late lunch this past Saturday after perusing the gardens and Pavilions this Spring. Excellent food, stellar service, and great location and atmosphere are all things that make this establishment inside the Lodge and Conference Center at Callaway one of the best restaurants there is. Their food offerings are traditionally Southern with an upscale twist on them. We started with the appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes which were topped with bacon pieces which were delectably crispy and Chow-Chow, which is a southern condiment of sweet peppers. They were hot and sweet, which was one of the best I've ever eaten. I think they would've been better served with an Aioli or other type of dipping condiment to enjoy with them. Our waitress was attentive and excellent and seated us at a great location next to a large window overlooking the outdoor dining and gardens. I had the Salmon Sandwich on a perfectly toasted buttery Croissant roll. It was served with a pickle and seasoned fries. Everything was hot and absolutely delicious. We did not have dessert. I highly recommend this establishment of your lunch or dinner date during our visit to Callaway Garden or stay at the Lodge and Conference Center.
