There are PLENTY of rescue groups in the area, and many of them are breed specific, and many have puppies. My personal favorite is the Humane Society (see my review), but I also think Good Dog Rescue is great too--they mainly have small dogs, and I believe they are ALL fostered in real homes, which means they probably have some degree of training, which can be super helpful. Also, most dogs from rescue organizations cost under $100 and that usually includes them being spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped, etc., all of which would cost you WAY more than that if you did it at the vet. Let me also suggest the Memphis Animal Shelter if you want to be a real, honest-to-God hero and karma superstar. It's a situation most dog-lovers can't face, myself included, but those dogs certainly need it more than anyone else does.

Our dog (Oscar), has bad knees and is prone to seizures, requires special attention with meds and walking regularly on lead. Kristyn (or better known to our dog as "Miss Kris") treats our dog as if he is her own, and we feel extremely comfortable leaving him in her care. Kristyn always sends daily updates accompanied by pictures. Kristyn is also very knowledgable about training techniques, and getting to the root of problems. One of our cats is very shy, but he loves Christi. Our long-haired cat sheds everywhere, yet somehow we come home to minimal cat hair -- and even our mail neatly placed on the counter.
