I ordered one of their oversized donuts weeks in advance for my daughter Finley's birthday, with a scheduled pickup time of 9:00 a.m. At approximately 8:30 a.m., I called to see if it happened to be ready early. Initially, they couldn't find my order, but the head baker eventually located it and assured me it would be ready at 9:00 a.m. as requested. No problem. I arrived at approximately 9:05 a.m., only to discover that they hadn't even made the donut yet. I was told it would be another 10 minutes. Annoying, but I understood and waited. Ten minutes turned into 20, and eventually almost 30. Despite having weeks of advance notice AND my phone call that morning, nobody could explain why my daughter's birthday order hadn't been prepared. To make matters worse, one of the employees in the back seemed visibly annoyed that I was waiting instead of leaving and coming back later. When they finally brought the donut out, they quickly tried to close the box. I asked to see it first because they'd previously gotten my daughter's name wrong, calling her "Flinley" instead of Finley. I'm so glad I checked. The donut was still so warm that the frosting was melting off. The writing had melted into the frosting and was barely legible. It looked like something they had thrown together at the last minute, which, considering the circumstances, is exactly what appeared to have happened. When I expressed my disbelief, the response I got was, "Sorry, we did the best we could." The best you could do with WEEKS of notice? With a phone call 30 minutes before my scheduled pickup? There was absolutely no excuse for this. The manager was equally nonchalant about the entire situation. But here's what upsets me the most: No amount of money refunded is going to take away the disappointment on my daughter's face when she sees the birthday donut she's been so excited about. This wasn't just a random donut. This was something special I ordered specifically for her birthday. She's been looking forward to it, and I wanted it to be a memorable part of her day. Instead, I was handed a rushed, melting mess that looked nothing like the special birthday treat I had planned for her. And as if that weren't enough, while I was waiting, I couldn't help but notice how rudely other customers were being treated. The counters were cluttered with boxes and other items, and I watched multiple customers come in looking for somewhere to sit, only to end up eating their donuts in their cars. The entire experience was disappointing, from the lack of preparation and organization to the customer service and complete lack of accountability. I should have gone to the Country Donuts in Elgin, where I've had much better experiences. Mistakes happen. I understand that. But when a business has weeks to prepare a special birthday order, confirms that it will be ready, and then hands over a poorly finished product with little apparent concern, that's more than a simple mistake. I had also ordered a half dozen and they told me it was on the house due to their mistake. But no amount of free donuts will make it ok for ruining a child's birthday surprise.
Fun local donut shop. I highly recommend the maple bar. Everything was super fresh (we could see them making more donuts as we ordered!) and so perfect. The pricing was super affordable and they have a coffee menu as well. This was the perfect stop after a day out in the cold. There is currently no seating in the shop, so plan on taking your order to go, but you can grab your things fast and expect great quality!
Get in your car and go. Some of the best donuts I ever had. When I'm in town, I get Portillo's and Country Donuts. Crystal Lake staples. You must try the cinnamon roll. It has a crisp glaze and a pillowy -melt in your mouth inside. Absolute Perfection. They have a drive-thru...about $14 for a dozen and worth every penny.
A home-y feeling donut shop with delicious and affordable treats! Our entire household tried a variety of items--cinnamon donut holes. chocolate donut holes, powdered donut holes, a honeydew donut, white iced donut, chocolate iced donut, cinnamon donut, lemon donut, hot chocolate, and their sugar cookies! Everything was soft and flavorful! The household was already conspiring to figure out when we can make the trek to eat there again, haha. The staff is polite and handles the constant stream of people well--firm, but polite! The space for enjoying is small, but I delivered the treats home, anyways! I went in, but they have a drive thru and are open 24 hours! Amazing!
Friendly and considerate service, which is so hard to find these days! I had both of their apple donuts with a medium hot chocolate which was the best! Its too bad they don't expand and put another location up north near the Wisconsin border, I would go there more often! And skip the other places around there! I like the vintage seating, but not the boxes stacked up where people can sit, but I'm sure they have their reasons!
Hands down better than Dunkin' Donuts! This little place was busy on a Sunday morning, but they kept the line moving fast. Donuts were super fresh and delicious.
I love country donuts the best in town I got some sugar cinnamon donut holes soo yummy, glazed donuts and I even got a box of free long johns that were end of the day im going to share with my neighbors. my family comes here a lot and always gets a couple dozen donuts or more each time service is fast and open 24 hrs cant beat that! ill be back again soon cant want for the pumpkin donuts to come out!

I rarely get to Crystal Lake, so when I saw this place and its great Yelp reviews I wanted to pick up a few. They don't disappoint. The devil's food donut is delicious! But their maple long John is the best. In over 15 years living in Chicago I've never found a maple bar (called a long John here) that was enjoyable. Usually they come with bacon on them (I wish this trend would end) or they're Dunkin quality. But these ones were almost as good as my favorite source, which is in my Oregon hometown. They were nice and light; usually I find them far too dense. And the maple topping was just the right flavor. If I could do it again I'd have bought just the maple long John, even though they charge a bit extra for them. The place has the counter where you can walk up and order donuts, but there's also a bit of a diner feel in that they have a counter where you can sit and have a snack and coffee. (There may be more to their menu; I only looked at the donuts.) They also have a drive-through, which is great, but they don't list the donuts they have so if you're ordering more than a couple you may need to come in. It's an old school place that knows what they're doing and does it well.
I heard someone on the radio mention Country Donuts in Crystal Lake. I decided to try it. The donuts were the freshest and most delicious donuts I have ever had. These are no frills, nothing contrived, first class donuts. I can't wait to return!

This is on Yelp's 50 the Best Donut shops in the United States.... Fantastic facility, fun interior with the donut bar! Great service! Donuts weren't that great at all... dry but with runny icing... I would suggest not leaving them exposed to the air in baskets behind the register... I was there at 10 in the morning so it's not like it was really late like when you buy donuts at 3 o'clock .... Looks like they make donuts 24 hours a day so I'll need to try and get something fresher next time? read more

You can talk smack about my compression socks and sandals ensemble. You can wine about taxes. You can't point at people in jorts, but not a peep should seep from your lips about the sacred donut. Plain and simple, Country Donuts does it right. The name is not a gimmick. The team puts in hard work and puts out some classic fried dough. I've never had an issue with stale donuts like DD will shamelessly serve you. They have a drive thru. Everyone treats you nicely. They're consistent. You can't go wrong. I name my donuts and build a relationship with them. Chad was a vanilla long john. He had ambition...and he was delicious. read more

Best donuts hands down! Go to country donuts, Saturday and Sunday morning and you'll see a line of 30 cars ! That's because this place is amazing! Go to a car dealership and you'll see on the service desk that somebody dropped off country donuts! That's because it's a great way to say thank you and who doesn't like a doughnut! My favorites are the French crawlers or any of the cake donuts ! This place is a staple of Crystal Lake and is truly a great local staple! read more

Great experience, service, and fast checkout. Come prepare because they have so much you can choose from, and they don't skimp on the ingredients. The donuts are so soft and the fruit filling is just perfect. They also have glazed, powder, sugar, and plain donuts. The Boston cream donuts and strawberry donuts were perfect with just the right amount of sweet. Stop by and get your self a cup of coffee or a cool summer drink. You won't disappointed! read more

I use to frequent this donut shop when I lived in the area, and now that I'm an hour away, I don't get the luxury of stopping in for donuts as often, but when I'm in the area, I'll always stop in for a donut. And each year for Fat Tuesday, you bet I'm taking a trip to Crystal Lake for some paczki. Their paczki is still my favorite even after trying many big name bakeries. They are so fluffy and fresh and even stay soft the following day. All varieties are good. You really can't go wrong with any of the standard donut flavors too - blueberry is a must, and red velvet is always a go-to flavor. They are fresh, melt in your mouth and have a light crisp on the outside. They also have good coffee. Give it a try! read more
