Yes... I am in my happy place. OBX One of our favorite spots to eat at is Country Deli. They are open but for takeout or patio dining. The patio has 7 different table settings. 5 picnic style tables and 2 round metal tables with 4 chairs a piece at them. We were the first to pull in and thought they were closed. A young man came out and let us know they were open and happy to take our order. Country Deli has been open for about 4 weeks now. They are known for there over stuffed sandwiches. The sandwiches are mage from high-end Truman's meats. The new hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm Closed Sunday/Monday Sorry we were so consumed with our delicious sandwiches I forgot to take a pic. My hubby and I split an Italian and my son got a Cheesesteak. Most of these sandwiches can be split or you got something for dinner. They do have a basic Kids menu: Create your own , PBJ,or Hotdog. Also have a veggie lovers section (4 different ones to try) For you breakfast bagel lovers ... I will never eat here again!! A guy making sandwiches kept coughing out like he had cat hair stuck in his throat. Never once leaving the floor to gather himself! Never covering his mouth at all. I said something to the employee who informed me his father owned the place and "they" was afraid to say anything because "they" didn't want to get in trouble. We liked Country Deli a lot on our first visit, but a return kind of let us down. They have a very nice selection of sandwiches and although they are on the expensive side, they are very well made, with a ton of stuff. I really feel my Italian was too much for two meals. I ate half but did not need that much. These are made for the giant American eaters. I always order Italians when I am in the mood for a sub. My main issue with the Italian this time was that something on it was extremely sweet. I could not figure out what it was. I'm not talking about a hint of sweetness that is nice to have to balance the flavors and provide depth. I'm talking about me looking to see if I could find sugar sprinkled on. I thought the sandwich was picking up loose spice from the barbecue potato chips that I had on my plate, which were quite sweet. I thought perhaps they had adopted that disgusting King's Hawaiian bread, but that was not it. I finally figured out that the Italian dressing they are using is sugary sweet. It ruined the sandwich. I have not decided what to do with the leftover. Beyond that, the Italian meat choice is limited. They offer, ham, bologna and salami. All are pretty bland. I would like something more flavorful than the bologna, such as capicola and pepperoni. I really will think twice about returning. We have never been to It's All Gravy so that will be something to try first for an Italian. To be honest and to utter the rankest of heresies, I greatly prefer the Italian BMT at Subway. This was a two star sandwich, but I won't go so far as to say it is a two star place overall, although I see they do serve the one-star "stuff" from Surfin' Spoon and the Dirty Chips in Mesquite BBQ were so salty, I dumped them. read more

The menu had quite a selection for a deli. Service was fast and friendly. The sandwiches, turkey club and Wright Brothers Trio, were packed full of deli meat and tasted delicious! They do not have much seating, there are a few benches outside, but they do have call ahead ordering and delivery, including beach accesses! BONUS: They have a free library. I was impressed that there was a new lady, who apparently had just started, but rather that letting her struggle on her own and "figure it out" with customers waiting, there were TWO experienced workers helping her out. Excellent teamwork! Also, worth noting, we made a request to vary from the menu (substituting Cheddar for American cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich), and it was handled with no problem. I would have given 5 stars for the food but my half lemonade half sweet tea was horrible. It tasted like what dirty diapers smell like. Avoid it but the food is amazing. We usually stay down in Waves and get sandwiches from a deli there but stayed in Nags Head this year and decided to give them a shot. The Double Club was HUGE and I didn't get lettuce or onions on it so it was smaller than what it would have been. I couldn't get the whole thing in my mouth and only ate half. The Red Baron was very good, the Cheesesteak was good and the I wouldn't brisket was also really good. I wish we would have went earlier in the week because we would have eaten there a couple times. We were treated to lunch here by our AirBNB host after a slight snag with internet service at our rental. We were blown away by how great our sandwiches were! We had the cheesesteak- ( the large one is humongous), a turkey club and did a build-your-own sandwich too. Very fresh ingredients, sliced thin and perfectly heated. The space is larger than expected if you want to eat inside. For fun, they also have old fashioned glass bottles of many different pop varieties. Sandwiches are amazing. Meat used is of a very good quality. Even though you may pay $9-$12 for a sandwich you will not regret your purchase. There is something about a well crafted sandwich that always hits the spot. I heard amazing things about Country Deli before I came down to OBX and expected it to live up to the hype. I enjoyed it so much that I ate here 3 days during a 7 day trip down to OBX. Steak and Cheese (small): There's nothing small about it. I was stuffed after my steak and cheese that was filled with a generous portion of shaved steak. I HIGHLY recommend getting this sandwich with hot peppers. I didn't get it the first time, but I was discussing it with friends how it lacks a bit a heat, and my friend got it with peppers and allowed me to have a bit. Let me say, changed the game! Turkey Club: There was something simple and refreshing about this one. Maybe it was the crunch of the green lettuce and cold turkey. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Mollie's Mess: WINNER! I swayed the BF to get this because I wanted to try their pastrami, but already had my heart set on the turkey club. I also asked him to get it with hot peppers. Pretty sure I was THAT girlfriend who ate half of the sandwich that didn't belong to me when I was offered "a bite." No regrets! It's a perfect, yet simple, hot sandwich. Recommended it to a friend who went after us, happy to report he loved it too. Bermuda Schwartz: I mean it should be no surprise that this one is HUGE. I skipped dinner the day I had this one because I was still full. Something about this cheese and meat combo that just works. I also love the ability to customize any sandwich on the board to suit your own taste. As someone who doesn't care too much for mustard, onions, or American cheese, and has a love for toasted sourdough bread, they were always happy to make my substitutions when I ordered. Seriously the best food, and fastest service I've received in a long time! My husband told me to surprise him, so I got him the Smokey Joe and I got the double club. They were both AMAZING and even the presentation was like something out of a magazine. Also- an added nerd bonus, they had a free library. I took a book I normally wouldn't read, and next time I'll bring a few to add to their collection. So nice to see something like that this day and age.
