Visited in the morning to purchase a dozen bagels & cream cheese. The female attendant was not cheerful or very welcoming. Display case had a few of the various types and they were placed in a plastic bag. I had to ask for knives & napkins since they weren't placed in the bag. I still left a tip on-screen for which no 'thank you' was offered. I was gifting them to tax preparers who volunteer their time. Prior to delivering them I squeezed each through the bag & got the impression they were leftover from the previous day as I'm ell-aware what a fresh bagel should feel like. Bagels are a very light color, dense as they should be, but a little on the small side. I was happy to see a NJ favorite on the menu; a pork roll, egg & cheese (Taylor ham) but it wasn't anything special. Minimal meat. Cheese wasn't melted. It wasn't made as the hot, hardy, gooey sandwhich it should be. Coffee was fine but they didn't have any creamer. Powdered creamer was the only option. That's fine for free coffee at the mechanic, but when I'm paying for it put out some cream! (Woman behind the counter was very friendly and offered to pour some milk in, which I appreciated). Ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese. After over 20 minutes of waiting and watching other people get their orders first, I asked the cashier who rudely told me my order was in line to be made. Food came out about 30 mins after ordering. This is a complete mess of a business. I highly recommend not going if there is any line. They don't have any ability to handle even a small crowd. Dreadful experience. The bagel was fine but the experience waiting sort of ruined it for me. If you are going here I would go during off times; non weekend or call ahead. Quick efficient service from a nice lady. The bagels were delicious, hot and very good! We really enjoyed our breakfast. My husband got an everything bagel with egg and bacon, and I got an everything with cheese and cream cheese. We were super happy with the flavors and texture of the bagels. They also have coffee and you can add whatever flavors/sauces as you like and sugar and half and half. Couldn't ask for a better breakfast! Plus they are open on Monday morning in April...which a lot of other places are not, so that is great! read more

The owner of this place is the nastiest human being I've had the unpleasant experience of meeting. Picture a tall, mean, woman that looks like she could kick your butt... with compression socks. I was legit scared of her. So here's the deal. Two days ago, I stood in line & paid for 4 bagels. Paid about $8 & change, left a tip... then was told to wait. After waiting a stupid long time, I said nicely, I'll just come back tomorrow to pick them up. I'm on vacation with family. Due to unforeseen circumstances, could not pick up the next day... so I went the following morning. I explained the situation to the owner... and very rudely, she insisted that I re-pay for the bagels, bc she made them "special for me", (no, they were your average, sellable, garlic bagels)... rolled her eyes, saying she'll give me a discount. Fine. I waited in line, patiently, I get up to the front and explain the situation to the worker. She wanted to just give them to me, but I was honest & explained I was told to pay again. My discount? About $.50. Basically, I just paid again. The woman working was apologizing all over herself bc none of this made sense. So I'm now sitting in my car, confused & contemplating why the heck did I just have to pay double for bagels that first weren't ready for me, bc I wasn't ready for them?! ‍ I feel like I should have said something, fought a little harder... but I'm white. we ordered 3 bagels total and the lady rang it up for us. The nice girl making the bagels handed us two, we let her know that there was supposed to be 3 total. She said oh I'm sorry I'll make that for you right now. Then the original lady that rang us up comes back out with an attitude telling us the price of the third bagel. No apology. If you've never been to New York or had a bagel, perhaps you can believe these are "New York Bagels". The bagels do not seem to be boiled, so they are more like rolls/bread. Boiling bagels give them that quintessential chew. Also, the bagels are weirdly small and light. Again, not characteristics of New York bagels. Are the bagels fine? Yeah. They lack flavor. Very nice people and bagels were fresh. Bagels were 1.70 a piece which isn't cheap by my thought, but resort towns dictate a higher price which is understood. Bagels were ok. Closer to bread than the chewy ones I get in NY, NJ, and PA...but you're in NC and I really think it has something to do with the water used which makes a bagel have a certain taste/ texture in whatever area. Worst service I have ever experienced on phone for a terrible bagel. So rude on phone and bacon was barely half cooked.

Went mid week to pick up bagels around 9 am. Quite a line and the buckets of bagels were semi empty apart from the "weird" ones (onion, everything etc). Was panicking a bit as was supposed to bring back food for 7. However when I got to the front the last told me they were making more, and even tailored the toppings on the batch to match what I needed, and a few minutes later I left with a bag full of hot bagels. I live in NY so am used to good bagels and these were pretty good. Being fresh out of the oven no doubt helped. They also sell cream cheese and coffee etc, plus bagel sandwiches. read more

I was in the area and decided to look for a bagel shop since I love bagels. I found NY Bagels and decided to give them a try. I walked in and it was busy which I don't mind kept my distance(Covid times). It is a small shop with a few tables inside and a couple outside. They had several selections of bagels. I looked at their menu and was ecstatic that they had a BEC (bacon, egg and cheese). As I kept making my way up to counter I kept hearing a microwave. When it was my turn to order I asked them if they made their food with real egg and the cashier said no. I was DISAPPOINTED. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and coffee. I waited for a few minutes before I got my order. When I got to my car I tried the coffee. It wasn't great. As far as my bagel it was ok. I've definitely had better. The staff was nice. Let me start by saying that if you go by reviews you won't end up here. BUT if you look and see that most of the bad reviews or at least the credible ones are from 2014-2013. So we took the chance after I actually researched the reviews and realized YELP needs to have a time limit on them as in 2 years at most. SO... we went in and there was a line even at 9:30 which was a good sign. We ordered 3 bagels, 1 blueberry with cream cheese and 2 cheese, 1 with ham and egg and 1 with sausage and egg. The service was SUPER fast and SUPER friendly. The bagels themselves are fresh made in house and toppings are DELICIOUS and well put together (who wants a sloppy mess ). So next time before you just look at the stars on a place , make sure you first investigate how long ago they were from. Places change just like people change. read more

Never had a NY bagel before but I don't even care because my taste buds were singing to me. We had a cheese bagel with garlic and herbs cream cheese, and then a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese. First off, they don't skimp you on the cream cheese. They lay it on there! In a good way of course! Secondly, the texture of the bagels are on point. Chewy and thick in the inside and the top is a bit crispy. You hear a little snap when you bite into it. Exactly the way it should be! The only thing I was disappointed in, was the fact that I couldn't savor the last bite of my bagel because I ate it too fast. So damn good! Perhaps my review cannot be fair. Originally from NYC, I'm very skeptical of bagels. Came here based on reviews and we were not disappointed. These come very close to NY style bagels. Big and fluffy on the inside. Nice and firm on the outside. I like them a bit harder in the crust but overall excellent, excellent bagels. I was torn between a 4 and 5 starts. So as far as OBX goes, they are best bagels on the island. They had plenty of flavors to chose from and some were still warm at 11:30am. We also had a "health food" bagel which had all kinds of seeds on it in a egg and cheese sandwich which was very tasty. I ordered a bagel sandwich (bacon egg and cheese) and tried the cheese everything bagel; the bacon was thin and flimsy, the egg was microwaved, and the bagel was just ehhhh. no crispy outside and soft inside, very doughy, and not very good.
