Great place to bring the kids absolutely amazing love all the animals and the staff are super friendly

Nasty employees. When you ask a question they act like you walked into their house and are bothering them.

I've been told for years that this was a great store. So 2 days ago I went to see. What a disgusting disappointment. Dead fish floating in most every tank. Large fish and sting rays kept in tanks WAY TOO SMALL for their natural needs. The store was filthy, no rhyme, no reason...and wayyyy over priced for items I have seen elsewhere. I wish an animal abuse foundation would go after this shitshow. Horrid conditions for precious angels on earth. SHAME ON YOU COUNTRY CRITTERS....and that little idiot Dominic who serves ZERO service read more

We got a bunny here 3 years ago. They were very responsible asking us many questions regarding how he would be living, if we were home a lot, etc He is healthy, smart and happy. Not sure why everyone is saying they sell sick animals. Not from what I've seen. read more

I can't say enough good things about Country Critters--every employee I've interacted with has been wonderful, especially Michelle, Jenn, and Richie. But Dominic is truly exceptional. His knowledge is unmatched, and he's been a constant source of support and inspiration in my aquarium journey. Dominic is the reason I got into fishkeeping in the first place. I started with a simple 5-gallon betta tank, and now I have both a 36-gallon and a 20-gallon setup. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and ready to quit, but Dominic always takes the time to educate, encourage, and help me work through whatever challenge I'm facing. Because of him, I've stayed in the hobby and grown more confident with each step. He's also amazing with my kids--kind, funny, and genuinely personable. ,the best on the island , recently got into aquascaping and large aquariums you can ask anyone there and everyone is knowledgeable and freindly , they have high quality fish large variety plus alot of other pets , an quality equipment for your tank plus they actually care. I stopped by here because I have appointments a couple of blocks away and was looking for special treats for my bunnies. While I was there I noticed dozens of baby rabbits in the back for sale, mixed breeds, likely separated from their mother too early etc. The conditions they were living in was super sad and while I was there someone has asked for frozen rabbits for their pet: it did not sit right with me that there was a freezer of frozen rabbits on the other side of the wall from dozens of baby bunnies. I didn't want any of the bunnies to end up in inadequate cages with no room to binky or as prey for someone's pet. I inquired about the adoption process and I was asked multiple times by multiple staff members if I was an adult and to consult my parents. Mind you I am 24 years old. Aka, I have been an adult for 6 years. They insisted that it didn't matter and I needed permission. Every time I came to visit and picked bun up, I was asked if I was an adult. I mean, I know I'm 5'2, but really??? Long story short, the bunny I ended up adopting was kept with bunnies that were struggling to gain weight. I'm beginning to understand why they were struggling now.... My poor bun was diagnosed with intestinal parasites that wreak havoc on the digestive systems of young buns. They only have a 2 day "health guarantee/warranty" but I would never return a sick rabbit to the place where they got sick. Instead im taking him to the best possible exotic vet and giving him high quality care. According to my vet, country critters is notorious for their adopted out animals carrying parasitic infections/tapeworms etc. Listen. I like the store. The process of adopting was more thorough than I expected. I love Piper and Dusty. But the lack of health checks is honestly so negligent and if this is a problem to the point where even my vet on the other side of Long Island has heard about it, it needs to be addressed. read more

We went to adopt a kitty and they had a bunch but they had to be deposited so we waited till Saturday and then we deposited the kitty and it was so cute. The place is very good and they have some exotic animals. The place was really good condition This place is awesome. I recommend five stars. read more

Terrible customer service. With all the large pet supply franchises around, I still try to support the smaller, invidually owned shops. Unfortunately, I will not go to this one again. From start to finish, the cashier was on her phone, did not acknowledge my presence, no eye contact, no thank you, and no offer for a bag for my purchase. I even thanked her, but still no reply. I hope that phone call was worth the bad review and losing a customer. read more

To all whom are concerned, Country critters has very healthy animals. The staff are very knowledgeable, respectful and easy to converse with about any pet needs. I spoke with Rob, the reptile specialist. He was very knowledgeable about each and every reptile. He also has every reptile in their appropriately sized habitats, which not many pet shops do. Visit Date: unsure I don't remember when I came here, it was during the summer of 2020 I can tell you that much lol. Hubs and I planned a family day and he didn't want to go to the beach or a park because he thought it was going to rain. So I found country critters and our son loves pet stores so we came here for a day to hang out in patchogue. It was a pretty interesting pet store, my son loved looking at the fish and the other animals. We didn't buy anything but the staff seemed nice enough they might be used to kids wanting to come into the pet store. I would consider dropping in for an actual purchase of an animal or pet accessories one time. read more

This place goes above and beyond to help with your pet needs and questions! We love visiting this pet store that almost feels like an aquarium/tiny zoo. We Esp love going to see the reptiles and visiting the reptile guy, Mr Rob. Mr Rob takes time, stops all he's doing to let my son see each reptile. He explains them and educates! I came here to see if anyone else is noticing this and it seems so... they get bunnies and other animals in and although they only take deposits on them before they can go home it is clearly because they are too young yet they are not with their mother. The rabbits are clearly 6 weeks maybe even less.. so many organizations are trying to shut down the sloth place, going after places with giraffes yet they can keep a wallaby, owl and other animals in tiny spaces in a store blows my mind. read more

Formerly owned by 4 close-knit friends, Country Critters was an island of knowledge and new technology in an ocean of poorly operated corporately owned pet supply stores. Yes, Country Critters was a "Real" pet store. Yes I would know, I worked here 15 years ago. I was responsible for maintaining most of the pet supplies. I was also manager of the reptile department and was responsible for hand-raising of many of the infant animals and birds here. Stopping back here years later for my kitten supplies, I could see that the Love for Animals has still continued here. Changing laws have made many of the exotic animals no longer available. But that's okay many of these pets would require costly environments to maintain their health, that most folks did not want purchase. I was was able to get all of the supplies that I needed here, including the cat laser toy and a carry case. One employee was very knowledgeable here, was able to confirm that my kitten was a male as I thought. I was also able to get some terramycin ophthalmic, which is a hard item to find in a local pet store. I enjoyed coming back again and seeing the all the changes, and wow that is a big white duck swimming with the fish in the waterfall pond! Country Critters, still one of the best. I've been coming here occasionally for several months now. They have an amazing store. I usually come in only for the fish. Not only do they have a wide selection of beautiful freshwater fish and plants, which all are healthy! But even have great salt water fish and corals. As well as all the equipment you need. The manager of the fish section is always extremely nice and helpful. They also have beautiful birds and other animals such as rodents and reptiles. The staff is very friendly, and this store has such a unique feel to it. Not to mention they have a resident wallaby! Highly recommend to fish keepers or pet owners alike. read more

I recently discovered Country Critters during my new found interest/hobby of fish and have been building up my beginner aquarium through them. From their wide variety of both fresh and salt water fish, too all of theirs products for them as well; it's a one-stop shop for all of your aquatic needs! All of the staff that I've worked with thus far have not only been friendly, but also extremely knowledgeable as well. They truly show both interest in what they do and car for you and your pets needs. In addition too that; they have a large variety of other animals, reptiles, birds, etc. as well. Also, including all of what you need need for all of them as well. Based upon all of my purchases thus far; I feel that all of their pricing is fair and reasonable. I also just found out that they offer boarding for select animals, reptiles and animals as well. Which is good to know for the future; as I am currently a reptile owner and may potentially become a bird owner as well in the near future. I highly recommend Country Critters for all of your pets needs and suggest anyone/everyone on the island looking for an exotic pet store to try them out! By far the most knowledgeable and friendly staff. The cages are always clean and the animals are well fed and are treated by the staff as if they were their own personal pets. I've been going to Country Critters for years. Recently I had been given a fish tank so naturally my instinct was to go to Country Critter to purchase some fish. Let me just tell you... Dominick ruined the entire experience. As a first time fish tank owner, I had questions to ask about the maintenance and care of the fish. He was soooooo obsessed with finding out the pH of the water and was completely fixated on it. I quickly grabbed the fish he sold me and ran out of there. A great place to get schooled in marine life and tank maintenance. A huge tank room with varied tropical fish, sharks, saltwater tanks w/ coral reef. Rubbermaid containers full of koi. Helpful staff. They also have the the warehouse-styled shelving for giant bags of cat/dog food. Max Cat and Nutro. There is a nice tuxedoed gentleman who tends to this department and he is friendly and beautiful, wearing a third-eye-styled marking upon his face. He easily weighs in over twenty pounds and has lived here for the past several months, after being adopted from the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. This Pet Store exceeded my expectations. I was amazed as soon as I entered when I saw the huge waterfall/pond at the entrance. There was even a Duck and Koi swimming in it! There were so many animals there, that it felt more like a Zoo than a Pet Store! There were Sharks, Praire Dogs, Cats, Fish, Acaris, Snakes, Lizards, Tarantulas, Birds and even a Wallaby! The only thing I didn't like was that some of the cages seemed a little too small/dirty, and the Duck I mentioned earlier kept getting harassed by the Koi with no dry land to escape to. We're long time customers here for various pet supplies. We recently started a larger, new aquarium after maintaining a small 10 gallon one for many years. Ran into one employee in the fish section that came off as really smug and elitist at our first visit for stocking the aquarium. He wasn't helpful at all but we brushed it off and forgot it happened after the fact. Then a few days later, we had a problem with one fish (behavioral, not health) and simply wanted to exchange it with a similar one. We weren't asking for money or complaining about anything, we just wanted to get a different fish that would fit in better in the new aquarium. (Note: we've done this once before at a different pet store that was very friendly with no incident). Well lol were we in for a surprise. We ran into the same employee as last time. Rather than exchange the fish, or even simply take the fish back, instead the guy had a really condescending attitude, and proceeded to lecture us on how we need to better research fish and that they won't take it back since it'd be too much work reintroducing to their tank. The guy was nasty and had a tone, saying "Sorry. You don't get tryouts here." If you don't want to do an exchange like literally every other pet store on the planet, fine. But don't be an elitist douchebag about it. Also as someone else said, it's true, Country Critters was recently prosecuted for illegal aquarium trading/dealing. And yes, their prices ARE incredibly high. read more
