Especially when our tour operator informed usthey had a "Whiskey and Raspberry" flavor. I mean, come on! And then when we got there, I ended up getting a doblé scoop because they also have a "Scottish Tablet" flavor. I'm not even sure what that is, but it sounded Scottish, so I'm in! McKenzie's is a small little shop, and they offer other items besides ice cream, but that was all I was there for, so that was all I got. And I was very pleased with my selections. Rich creamy ice cream that absolutely hit the spot after a wonderful day of exploring beautiful Scotland. I think just about everyone from our bus went to the shop for an ice cream tree, but the service was very fast and they were friendly as well. I don't even know how to pronounce the town's name (Pitlochry), but if you ever find yourself in that region area, you should definitely treat yourself to a delicious ice cream treat!

When you first enter there's a shelf to your right just FULL of beautiful looking cakes and sweets (do NOT help yourself!), the till to your left, and beyond that a little cafe where you can enjoy lunch items. We decided on two americanos and a piece of victoria sponge. The young woman working was incredibly friendly, but she seemed either new or out of the loop regarding certain things. There was no milk for our coffees (she didn't know they had run out until we had already paid) and when we asked about a few of the baked goods she mostly shrugged and smiled. No big deal, we were very happy with our takeaway selection. The coffees were piping hot and the cake was melt-in-your-mouth good. It was a smaller slice than we were expecting, and next time we'd for sure get two or three different slices to share (or probably just stay and enjoy the cafe/courtyard area and really tucky in to even more!). Some of the hand pies were underbaked which was a huge bummer. Make sure you visually pick out pie with a crispy brown color and you should be good. The steak pies were absolutely the best. Rich and tender stewed meat inside that's loaded with flavor. The crust was delicious and crunchy outside, soft on the inside, and still had flakey layers. We had sausage rolls twice because the first time they were incredible. Unfortunately the second time around they were underbaked and the filling was not cooked through. We did really enjoy the morning buns. Large, puffy, soft, and chewy and filled with either eggs, sausage, bacon, or a combo. Excellent breakfast right there! The nice women behind the counter were very friendly and quick to help. The bright yellow exterior can't be missed on your way through town. It's tiny inside and best suited for take away. A lovely 30 minute drive from my flat brought me here, through a lot of twisty-roads and beautiful country. On arrival, we got given the ugly duckling table of the place, ie not by the window. But after a group left managed to secure ourselves a few of the rolling hills and torrential rain. The menu is great, with a huge variety and GF/veggie options. I had the seafood platter which was huge, as in I struggled to finish it. (Obviously did). No half-portions here, 5 or 6 prawns, a huge helping of salmon, same with the mackerel pate and some incredible oatcakes with salad and dressing. The Dear Green coffee was bitter and black and just how I like it. My heart did want the Salted Caramel Cake with popcorn but it looked slightly too sickly. I opted for a classic brownie and was not disappointed. My friend's meringue with fruit compote and cream was mammoth! Well worth a drive, you can pre-book tables which I would definitely advise. Having been to their Quarriers Village location and thoroughly enjoyed it, I was quite happy to get…read morethe opportunity to sample the sisters' newest cafe on a cold, but sunny afternoon. This location is a little easier to get to as it's situated in Killearn town hall. Arriving at just before 2, the immediately obvious difference between the 2 locations was that this is much busier than Quarriers. The place was mainly occupied by the lunching ladies of sub-suburbia, save for the odd lunching worker/working luncher. Due to the lunchtime rush the staff seemed to be a wee bit stretched, (the poor folk next to me had to ask for a latte a couple of times before the server came back to say she'd forgotten what they'd asked for), but thankfully I had no problems with the service. I had the tasting platter at the Quarriers location, so of course I ordered it again (after all it was tasty!). When it came out it looked the same, but somehow it was lacking some of its previous magic. Of course I couldn't leave without trying one of their amazing looking cakes from the counter, I went with the flourless tangerine cake (yes it is GF), which was fragrant and not too dry, it had a texture not totally dissimilar to polenta cake. Now it maybe second season syndrome or it could just be a matter of over familiarity, but there does seem to be something missing from Quarriers in this location. I don't know whether it was down to the time of day (I visited Quarriers towards the quieter end of lunch), the fact that this is a somewhat new cafe or down to the glass & white wall environs, as I said it just wasn't the same.. Don't let that put you off trying the place out though, it's still a good cafe, serving good food & the view out across the hills is really beautiful (especially with all the snow). If I taste not time were the issue I'd choose Quarriers Village over Killearn, but otherwise you'll probably choose Killearn for its convenience & almost as good food.

When we asked a question of one person, we were told dismissively to "just go look in the case" while she brushed past us to go in the back; the staff who cashed us out, on the other hand, was warm and friendly. We took the sausage rolls on our walk to The Hermitage. It survived our backpacks no problem! It was good although quite dry (also, my bad: when they advertise it as "vegan haggis and spicy bean" I thought it would be a layer of plant-based haggis AND a layer of baked beans; it was just plant-based haggis MADE with beans [nothing spicy about it]). The empire cookies were ENORMOUS and LOVELY; melt-in-your-mouth shortbread and fun flavored gummy drops on top. Held up the entire day in our backpacks, and made for the perfect snack/pick-me-up for our two hour train ride back to Edinburgh. PRO TIP: Get your sausage roll heated. Don't eat them cold.

We ended up getting just iced americanos (£3.45) with a splash of oat milk - even for that splash we were charged an additional £0.25. The iced americanos had no ice, and were quite small compared to other places. For us, this is a pass, but I know we're not the demographic.
