I called into the office to explain the situation and asked to move our reservation up a day. They did not have any availability, which was fine, so I asked to cancel and they said not a problem. I asked specifically again if we would be charged and they said I would not be charged since I called in a few days before the scheduled arrival. Of course my card was charged and they later said they had no record of me trying to cancel, and that it was a non-refundable booking. That is exactly why I called to confirm before canceling and we would not have canceled if I knew I would be charged. Either incompetence or shady stuff. I'm now down $500 plus the other hotel we had to book. I understand it's a business but Was hoping we'd get a little more sympathy while dealing with our sick pup. Apparently not and will not be staying at Hotel McCoy ever again. Disappointing The Residence Inn in Pullman however was a great spot and was very accommodating.

This seems like one of the nicer options that's available. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Hampton inn. The rooms are nice. The staff was friendly and professional. There is an indoor pool as well. I didn't use it, but it's there. There is also a gym. The hotel has a restaurant, it's Washington State University themed if that matters to you. They also offer breakfast. They also have the snack pantry at the front of the hotel that offers highly overpriced items, but it's there and it's convenient. They also do something where they have milk and cookies for free in the lobby at night, don't quote me on the exact times. Overall, in Pullman your options are limited, and this is a good option from my perspective.

We enjoyed breakfast here both mornings, which was much better than anything on the go, and the happy hour bar was nice to unwind in. Check in was fine, although they forgot to acknowledge my Bonvoy rewards. Once I asked if they had bottled water, they remembered my reward snacks. The beds are hard and the pillows are soft, so that was a bummer. They provide soap and shampoo in the shower but no extra amenities/vanity kits. Location is key, right on campus makes it easy to get around for WSU events. Parking is convenient and free.

Staff allowed us to check in earlier than expected as we got into town several hours earlier as we were here for Parents Weekend. We only needed a bed and shower as we were here to spend time with our Coug-kids. My favorite: plenty of parking space as parking at Pullman hotels can be tricky. I like the size of the rooms and how clean the entire hotel is. I also like how quiet it is and the layout of the room as there's room to walk around and the sink/mirror is outside of the shower/toilet room so it's easy for 2 people to get ready simultaneously. My only concern is per Pullman customs: the exterior doors were wide open and unlocked super late (past 2am), when most places make guests use their room key to access the hotel main entry. I worried about unwanted folks entering the main interior, but the towns customs for keeping doors unlocked is real here. Folks are super trusting, but coming from the city, this worried me a little. At home I wouldn't leave my front door wide open at 2am, with the TV turned on while I'm in my bedroom asleep, and that's the vibe it was giving. Warm and welcoming, but also slightly concerning as it was super late. The main lobby has the TV on but there wasn't a soul in sight. We noticed this on both Friday and Saturday nights, as our kids had us out late both nights and we didn't get "home", back to our hotel until after midnight on both Friday and Saturday nights. Loved the free continental breakfast: great coffee, plenty of creamer, ample space and tables to eat and relax, and it was fun seeing folks we knew too (coolest thing about coming back to Pullman is running into other Cougs)! I'd stay here again and recommend it to others as it's not too far from campus, closer than others that are similar style hotels, and has everything you need for a home away from home.

Third, we could not understand the motel's office attendance language. Her English was hideous. We had to ask her to repeat helself several times. The issue was that the reservation wasn't under our name, it was made by our granddaughter. As we showed her the online receipt with my granddaughter's name on it, she kept asking questions without reviewing our printout. After finally getting it all squared out, we had to give her a credit card to hold the room. She said it was in case of damages. We understood but she later returned to the room asking for my granddaughter to fill out the form, she said it had to be filled out by the same person who booked it. We called our granddaughter (luckily she was in the area, as we were in Pullman for her graduation). The woman asked her for her credit card as well. We were outraged. We checked out early in the morning. We will never stay there again! By the way, the woman appeared to be either the owner or the owner's kin of the establishment. I honestly don't think she knew what she was doing.
