First, if you look over my Yelp Elite reviews, very seldom you'll find a negative review, and I try to return for updates with my experiences as I often see improvements! Stayed here many times before, some rooms and have been better than others, as we have something to compare staying multiple times over many, many years. We love this location (5-stars!) and parking (5-stars!), and I remember their sheets from Costco (5-stars!) and a/c that works (5-stars!)! I only make multiple reservations on places we like. There's also areas here that need improvement, such as the late-check-in process (1-star) on one visit the front desk messaged us about their front closes after 9pm and this motel would not allow check-in and one trip we were in traffic on 5+ hour drive to Pullman and I had a panic attack on the phone with them, as I was told we could not check-in if we arrived late, which made us panic the entire drive (1-star experience!) but they were lovely and allowed us to check-in upon our later arrival (yeah!), but the experience was really terrible as we were super stressed! Or how the room on the 2nd level behind the office the arrangement of the single queen bed and TV was a bit funky (3-star for decor/vibe), but not a big deal as we don't stay in our rooms in Pullman except to sleep & shower. Some rooms appear fresh and clean (5-star) while others could use a refresher of paint or care (wobbly door handles or bathroom doors that don't close properly, as an example, 2-3 stars), but I try to update my newer experiences upon frequent visits and I always notice and write about those improvements and reflect on the experiences. This time my experience was a 1-star all around, sadly. It was New-Coug Move-In Weekend and we'd stayed Friday to Saturday at another motel and moved our youngest Coug into his dorm at 9am, but the overall time took longer than our prior move-ins we've experienced with our other Cougs. By 6pm we were overwhelmingly exhausted! We were ready to relax rather than make the 5-hour journey back home in the dark. My friend had canceled her reservation for Saturday to Sunday, and suggested I call directly to the motel, as every hotel and motel in a 20-mile radius was booked!No availability was showing online, and in order to get her spot she'd suggested I call Cougar Land Motel directly. Called Cougar Land and explained about her cancellation and could we take it? Yes it's available, cost is $350, yes, we will take it! Expensive? Yes, but worth the convenience of being able to walk to campus (5-stars!) to spend time with our eldest Coug and relax vs driving home in the dark is worth the $350! The woman answering the phone asked if I'd stayed there before? Yes, many times! She then tells me I left a horrible review (!) and why would I want to stay again? I was baffled. My husband and I looked at each other, as the call was on speaker. Did I leave a bad review? I was too exhausted to think/respond, and she was adamant I wouldn't be welcome again! As soon as she hung up on me, I quickly went through Yelp. What did I write that was so offensive I was denied a return visit? I noticed zero reviews from me for Cougar Land Motel! I did not delete any and I was curious what I'd written to cause her to deny us! As a Yelp Elite member I follow rules and community standards. My husband wondered why she didn't say, "Hey I noticed you gave a poor review, here's the changes we've made and we are thrilled you're coming back to experience a better outcome!" We discussed this on our 5-hour drive home in the dark, as mentioned, we were really looking forward to staying at a local hotel we'd stayed at for years! Pullman is a lovely small-town with a tight community. My family of Coug alumni frequently travels back to Pullman (aka. Returns "home") and this experience reminded us about how wonderful the Coug Community is, but to be super careful about offering feedback/reviews as you might not have a place to stay when you visit. read more

After leaving a disappointing hotel (Paradise) earlier in the day of new Coug orientation, we were eagerly greeted by the staff. We entered our room to a STRONG chemical smell. The table was dirty and then I went to check the cleanliness of the bathroom (that was our previous problem). When I turned on the faucet, the water was BROWN! With the strong smell and nasty water, we decided to check out after maybe 20 mins. We were NOT given a refund or any compensation. Will not be back. My husband was convinced the smell was trying to coverup a problem somewhere. read more

I've read the reviews to see if any experience paralleled mine, and none did. I see complaints about the age of the room....... But what do you expect for the price in a small town. It was clean,had plenty of channels,heat and AC worked, had hot water and was comfy. My only gripe was that they advertise breakfast, and yes they do have it......but only during college events. My room was clean. Motel is within walking distance to many businesses downtown. Room is basic. Has a good size mini fridge. Decent tv (like 45-50 inch screen). I gave it 5 stars. It's not a 5 star hotel. Just a basic room. But it was a great deal for me. And it exceeded what I expected. There are no odors in my room and I don't even need to run the fan like I do in a lot of other hotels or motels. And the view is really nice. Please don't come here if you are gonna get blackout drunk and puke on the floor because nobody else deserves to smell your puke. But the bars are all very close. read more

This is a cute little family run motel right on the heart of Downtown Pullman. It reminds me nostalgically of places we would stay when I was a kid. The rooms are updated and extremely clean. The beds are comfy and the sheets are very soft. I would definitely stay here again. So much nicer than those big impersonal hotel chains. First of all, the reception staff were all very kind, helpful and accommodating. However, the hotel is an absolute "dive"! Everything in the room we stayed in was old and worn out. One positive is that the room appeared to be clean in terms of the bedding and the floor and the bathroom. But everything else, vents, walls, ceiling, etc. was dirty. The bathroom was laughable, and it appeared that somebody had gone nuts with a tube of white caulk, and really didn't care about how the bathroom looked afterwards. The caulk was everywhere! I booked this hotel because the photo of a room online appeared to be very nice, but that is very deceiving. I would rather pay $50 more a night and say someplace reasonably decent and I would never stay in this hotel again. read more

This is the place to stay in Pullman! So close to all the great downtown things to do. Our room was big and very clean. It was very quiet, but it was a Tuesday, yet we couldn't hear our neighbors at all. And it was pretty cool to have have an actual metal key lol! I love this place, it's very nice affordable and decent & clean. I stayed here and it was very quiet right at the end of summer. So there was only a handful of guests Nice updated decor! Large TV, WiFi, vending machines, ice machine was out of order but no big deal. The front service people are friendly. I believe they are the owners. I like that this motel is in walking distance to downtown Pullman, shopping, eateries and such are within minutes! This was my first time to Pullman ever, and I've lived in Washington most my life! Love the charm of this old motel. It may look a tad old and worn but...... the water is hot, it's clean, and the beds are super comfy. The motel is at a great location, you can walk to downtown Pullman easily without having to drive and find parking. The owner/operators are on site willing and ready to make your stay the best it can be. I needed some silverware for some takeout, I went to the front desk and they had what I needed. Manager (claims to be owner maybe is who knows) is a total racist and beyond rude! When a room that didn't smell like animals was requested due to allergies. The manager chimed off your kind towards my niece who is black. Manager refused to refund money after situation escalated, cops had to be called as well. It's a true shame that a grown as$ adult has to act this way toward a child. Beware of this location if your another race or apparent religion. Drove 10 mins into Idaho for better choice. read more

Hidden gem! GREAT price and the room is super nice! It smells amazing and looks very clean. It's also modern and decorated nicely. The owners were very sweet and helpful, they allow dogs which is awesome. I can't imagine there is a nicer motel in Pullman. Especially for the price. I am going to start this off by saying I have never made a review before but I had to just for this terrible experience. We drove from California to take my sister to WSU hoping based off reviews we would be fine. If I could give 0 stars I would, this place has unsatisfying customer service and is not worth the 120 a night we payed. This place was not clean at all, the bed sheets were wrinkled and had stains. Mirror had splatter stains of God knows what, and dead bugs in the window seal. The old nasty shower curtain was stained brown.The door didn't even close or lock w/o you having to shake it around or lift the handle. There was also no elevator or ramp to reach the other floors so it is not disability accessible. The female manager (who is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL) called us so upset and hostile because she claims we smoked in the room and found ashes in the bath tub which was a complete lie, my family is extremely asthmatic. She gave us an ultimatum to pay 150 fee or get out. So since we were hundreds of miles away from home, all the other hotels were booked we had no option but to stay. So to wrap this up DO NOT STAY HERE. They are scammers and rude. And since you can charge this much for dirty rooms and false allegations buy uniforms for your house keepers, having someone in your room that you can't identify work there is unsettling and also unprofessional. read more

The first day we got in, the guy in front didn't tell us exactly where room 373 was at. On top of that where is your customer service at? So much for hospitality, couldn't offer office restroom to an elderly man. Terrible customer service! Lesson learned, can't expect much from a "motel". If I could post with no stars that would be it. The only reason this place is not getting a 5 star is because the bed. I am a firm bed lover & the bed was FAR from firm. But, that is the ONLY bad thing I have to say. The room was clean & very well put together. The staff was absolutely AMAZING! The young lady at the front desk was super sweet and very accommodating. She was even incredibly apologetic & helpful when we showed up 5 hours before check in. They didn't have a room ready only because they were booked to capacity the night before. Tidy rooms with excellent mattresses. Cost a bit more than I expected; we were quoted $76 per night for two weeknights with a call ahead. Cougar Land offers a small veterans discount, bringing our rate down to $72 and change. Wi-fi is free and performs reasonably; best if you set up near the window. Strong smell of cinnamon room disinfectant (renewed daily for your olfactory overload). Overworked manager is gracious and outgoing. Walls are thin enough that you'll wake up with the first crank of a contractor's truck. The garbage is collected on Friday mornings at 5:22 a.m., and you will learn of this directly by the smashing of dumpsters. Room was VERY clean, and Pullman is a good town for friendly people. A bit less money and a lot less noise would make this a five-star deal. read more

Stayed here recently for three nights (with my dog) while interviewing for position at WSU. The neighborhood isn't great, and it seems there are abandoned buildings near by where drug users have hung out, but the motel itself was fine. Never felt fear or anything at all; it's just not pretty to look at. Parked right in front of my room, and that was nice and convenient. A lot of construction workers stay here midweek, so be aware of that, too. They can be noisy. The staff here is VERY nice, and they are helpful if needed. I didn't have any problem with my room, but I had some questions about other things, and the front desk was very kind and supportive. They are dog-friendly, which is a big bonus. I paid an extra $10/night for my pup, which is standard. The room was simple but pretty nice for the price: kitchenette almost, with a mini stove and a refrigerator, too. That was a bonus. The TV is nice and big, but the channel selection seems limited. The thermostat controls worked well, and the bed was soft but comfortable enough as were the pillows. The towels could be a bit bigger, but whatever. The bathtub was fine, although it could use a good scrubbing. Two chairs and a little table were very adequate for a small workspace when I needed to do some work. The wifi worked great on my laptop near the window, but when trying to use my iPad in the bathtub, it was a little spotty. The breakfast is basic but totally fine for the overall price: I had a toasted bagel with peanut butter and a yogurt each morning, which saves me $5 a day at Starbucks, etc. It's not a fancy breakfast, but that kind of basic calorie consumption in the morning included in the price of your room is good in my book. I was comfortable and content here for three nights, and I'll always come back at this price. Go Cougars! read more

Horrible motel with the rudest staff. To start, after checking in we were given the keys to room 116. We park and walk up to the room, open the door, and find the room OCCUPIED! Yes, a lady was laying on the bed eating and she informed me her son was in the shower. Very awkward moment. I then go back to the front desk and let them know. The manager says my wife must have moved someone there she is on pain medication. Then he gives me keys to a new room, when I look I am given a key to room 113 and 114; we stayed in room 113. Definitely didn't feel safe and we had to keep the chain locked at all times. Wondering if random strangers where gonna walk into our room! read more

Cougar Land Motel is not much to look at on the outside and I wasn't expecting much for the price of $79. I was very pleasantly surprised. It is clean, the bed was very comfortable, the bedding clean and soft, blankets looked new. There was no funny smell to the place like I have come to expect with most Inexpensive motels. There was a fridge, coffee maker, air conditioner, huge TV screen, snacks and water. And more importantly, all of it worked and well. Last time I viisted Pullman, I chose an Airbnb and the airconditioner there was broken. This was a much more pleasant experience and that is saying something since I really prefer Airbnb to hotels. The management was friendly and helpful. Location superb, was 2 minutes to campus by car. I can see why this place gets good reviews. Would defiantly stay here again. read more

Been staying here for many years, so I know what to expect from them. Basically small, but clean, complete appointed and efficient rooms. Good value for the price, well located downtown in Pullman close to many food and drink venues, with ample parking. Basically in a fairly quiet neighborhood, although if one stays in the lower floors, unfortunatley due to the lightweight timber flooring construction back in the day when constructed, one can easily hear the occupants above just in normal walking around their rooms, especially late at night (otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars). Very nice continental breakfast, ample amounts of food in nice variety. Wi-Fi is free and fast. Management of this establishment has recently changed hands, such that reservation accounting will likely move into the 21st century using IT resources (although I never had any problems with reservations made in the past, months prior to my visits...), however, the huge thing now is that with the new management change, ALL rooms will from here on in become non-smoking, and that's a great change to look forward too. So when visiting Pullman, especially for the money, this is really a very good value. read more

Less than one block away from restaurants and that place had parking right outside my door which was helpful for unpacking my car. On top of that the owners are very friendly and treated us like family. My pup dog got a treat and we got water and a snack in the room. I felt like they cared out our stay and didnt bat an eye when we asked to move to the bottom floor. We will be back! read more

If I can give it a negative star I would. This was the second time I stayed here. The first time was just for the night and it seem pleasant. Dated and not too clean but pleasant. My door didn't lock well I had to barricade myself to feel safe. This past week was my second time here. We were dropping my daughter off to college. I have always loved the town and met a lot of nice people until I stayed here. The front desk persona and house keepers were rude and I hate to say it but a bit racist. Once they say my kids are biracial ( and I mean half black) their tone changed with me. On my first morning there I get a call from the manager or front desk person accusing me of smoking in the room. The house keeper "found " ashes in the bathroom??!! No full discloser, my one child brought a special ashtray that belongs to her late grand father so he can experience this journey with us. Mind you it was clean and unused. Anyway I tried to explain it to the manager but she just kept saying she has proof. I stated I don't know how she does since I was the last one until the bathroom and I also have bad asthma so I don't smoke and my kids don't smoke either !! Now I remember that house keeper who was cleaning my room. She was the one who was SMOKING in the parking lot when we left to move my child into her dorm room. So I stated to them that no matter what I said they were either going to kick me out or I pay $150. It's a small town and all hotels are booked and I already paid for the days I was staying. So no choice but to pay the fine. Then she threatened me that If they want to they can kick us out tomorrow!! Needless to say I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN! And I hope karma bites their racist ass !! And unfortunately this one experience put a bit of a sour taste in my soul for this lovely town. read more

It wasn't a terrible mattress and we were able to sleep ok, but it was definitely pretty old. Everything else was just fine if not great. Terrible place. The only good thing was the huge tv, which we didn't watch. Mattress was terrible...like a sponge...we sank into it. Had to put a pillow between us at night to keep from rolling to the center. Bathroom door wouldn't close. Shower went hot to cold depending on how many other guests were using water. We checked out after our morning/early afternoon activities and went elsewhere. It was worth giving up the cost of a night just to get a bed I'll be able to sleep on. Oh, and no coffee in the room. Doesn't EVERYONE have little coffee pots in their rooms now? Made things even worse at 6 AM as I was heading out for golf. read more

I gave five stars because this place is clean and all equipped; comfy bed, ac, free wifi, free breakfast, etc. it's close to downtown Pullman where many restaurants and bars are located. This is a nice Motel, a great value. Real clean, extra large flat screen TV. Though ONLY 24 channels. In today's digital world this is not acceptable. Also, no HD so you must adjust to blurry pictures. One other criticism, the rooms do not have irons and boards. When I travel I need to refresh my business clothes. What's so hard about an iron in the room. The ironing board they give you at the office is a small table top version. Pleas invest a few dollars and get a couple real ironing boards. All said, this is still a very, very good value. Not sure what they charge during the school year, or during WSU games. But off season I'd stay here again. read more

The people who run this motel have a nice dog and are pleasant and honest people, but the place itself is a pretty dumpy motel. I had the pleasure of being a single person paying for a double at the end on the back on the parking strip without WIFI. In another town, I would have been scared out of my mind (and I'm a city girl) with a stuffy room I don't dare open the door or window of. The heater needs some tuning up and a good cleaning (mm, burning dust!). There were apologies and excuses but no discounts. It's a motel in a town with not a lot of competition. The tub is dinky, the shower is weak, the 'free breakfast' is not very interesting. No compulsion to improve. Good location. Free parking. But I'll tell ya, Pullman is so damn small, all the locations are pretty good, the parking is always free, and the dodgiest of rooms is probably safe enough. If I could give a negative star I would. We booked 2 rooms for 3 days for our trip and then we canceled the reservation far in advance. For some reason they only canceled 1 room. When we found out after our trip they told us we said to only cancel 1 room. Why would we do that when we said to "Cancel our reservation". That would mean to cancel the entire thing. They never asked us if we wanted to cancel 1 room or both. They just said ok and said that was it. Then they lied and said we told them to only cancel 1 room. Why would we say that? They said that we have to pay for all 3 nights because they lost money. I want to know how is it our responsibility or fault when they mess up that we have to pay? When talking to them all they did was lie and say it is our word against theirs. I am assuming they don't want to get into trouble from the owners so they lie and steal our money. Please BEWARE of this place. Now I am going to file a claim with the BBB. Hopefully they can help us with this horrible situation. read more
