Ugh, I wish my friends and I had a better time here last night. The place is super cute and decorated well. Our drinks were the highlight and tasted great. The food was average, with the fries being the star of the show. Service was friendly, but struggled. Twice, food that we didn't order was brought to our table. This was a bit awkward given than there only 2 other tables there and we had already eaten and asked for the bill. Then, the bill! First, they brought out another tables check to us. Okay, fine. Then, they brought out our bill, but overcharged us. So, a third bill had to be brought out. Also, not a fan of their 20% included gratuity which we knew about going in. Another thing that I don't agree with is their happy hour menu. They state the 3 for $33, however there are still prices listed for each of the happy hour menu items. So, when our table ordered 2 of the 3 for $33 items and then one additional drink from the happy hour menu, they proceeded to charge us the full $20 for the drink price from their dinner menu. My mom and I came here for Apero Hour on Christmas Eve. We were absolutely blown away! For starters, Michelle and Daniel were so lovely -- extremely friendly and attentive, and made sure we had such a fantastic time. The space is so beautiful, you truly feel like you're stepping into a little cafe in Paris. I love the paintings on the walls, the little tables, the small lamps on the tables, even the bathroom framed in conversational rooster art is so fun and adorable. And the food, oh, the food. The apero hour is an amazing deal -- 3 items for $33. I got a dirty martini, tuna tartare, and zucchini beignets. My mom got an espresso martini, short rib quesadilla, and pommes frites. We also added on the whipped cheese and the ice cream sundae, the latter of which I'd seen all over social media and let's just say it did not disappoint! Everything was absolutely delicious, and the portions are huge -- we took a bunch home with us! I especially loved the zucchini beignets which were sweet and tangy, and the sundae with soft serve ice cream and three different do it yourself toppings was out of this world. I feel as if their food portions during happy hour was a bit small, but fine for the price. But I wouldn't say you are getting a deal on the food, it is mostly great for the drinks. My friend and I came in this evening for our first visit during happy hour and really enjoyed ourselves! For drinks, we ordered the cosmos, which were made to perfection and were nicely strong. For food, we ordered the brussel sprouts, fries and short rib quesadillas which we also enjoyed and had no complaints of. Our sever Jessie was wonderful and helped with recommendations. The folks are happy. I wrote an extensive review that disappeared mysteriously, so I had to start all over and taste everything again... The reason we came was the zucchini beignets. third time is a charm. i dislike zucchini, so this is an eventful moment. And also because it's a French restaurant that I could eat at which is not a daily occurrence. (I'm vegetarian) The artichoke hearts actually are marinated in a lemonade marinade that also has some chili flakes which made it a little hot for me personally. My mom who also does not like spicy, loved it. The pesto sauce it comes with is excellent. My father is extremely satisfied with the ceviche. My mom also concurred that it was most excellent. That is saying a lot. The tuna tartar was also good he said. It sounds like not as good, but he was still happy. I enjoyed the COUCOU Sour. Twice. added a lemon twist. not too sweet. I was not a fan of the Kir Royall or the weird bubbles that has Chardonnay and Pinto Noir in a bubbly format. The gnocchi which has shifted from its previous less substantial version, is now very good. much better. a fair amount of pine nuts and crunchy croutons add a lot. the pesto is lovely and the seared gnocchi is a delight. This place sucks. Food was alright but not for the price point that it was. The place felt very stuffy and pretentious with terrible vibes. There seemed to be a manager or some sort of authority figure and I was sitting at the bar and did not appreciate the way he spoke to the staff. The staff themselves were attentive and great. I don't like any place that exploits their employees and this place blatantly does with the 20% surcharge which does not actually go to the servers/bartenders who rightfully earned it. Makes sense why there's such a high turnover. Don't support businesses that exploit their employees!!! This is way too common of a practice in LA. read more

Happy Hour was great 3 for $33 we ordered all the apps excluding the oysters and the steak tartare. The fried olives, the Brussel sprouts, the prawn cocktail and the tuna tartare were my favorite from the apps. The ice cream with chocolate was also really delicious. The ambience and aesthetic in the restaurant is amazing, the outdoor patio has heaters making it worthwhile dining outside during the fall. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us his honest recommendations. He also brought a chocolate mousse dessert with a candle for our bday girl- we didn't ask either so that was nice of him to recall our convo at the start of our visit. The host was also very polite which is always the first part of any dining experience. We did not have a reservation, but were seated right away; we visited on a Thursday around 5pm we were one of the new parties to dine in but the restaurant quickly filled up inside and outside. My 3 friends and I went to this place last Friday. We were so excited to try the 3 for 33 happy hour and have a girls night; however, the 2 1/2 hour experience was extremely dissatisfying Upon arrival, each waiter had different interpretations of the 3 for 33 happy hour, which made it confusing for us to understand what we could and couldn't order. One told us we could only have 1 drink and 2 apps, another told us we could have 2 drinks and 1 app but the 2 drinks had to be for 2 people, another said that we can order 3 drinks but it would be 1 drink per person, which is fine, but it's all very confusing. Something to note: I wanted to order a dirty gin martini off the happy hour, but they could only do dirty vodka martinis. The HH menu just says "dirty martini," so I thought I could specify which alcohol. At one point, a waiter brought out drinks we ordered but said they couldn't give it to us yet because we had to finish our other drinks first or they'd have to take them back to discard...we wanted the drinks we ordered, so they just stood there for a bit until we drank more of our drinks, and then gave them to us. It was all very bizarre and made us feel rushed. The manager who was our main waiter, Yani, spilled a Lemon Drop all over my friend and the table, did not say sorry, all he said was "your lemon drop dropped!" Then he left and served 2 other tables before coming back to give my friend a napkin to clean the drink off herself. My friend also had to clean the table herself. The drinks took forever to come out. We had to remind them multiple times what our orders were, sometimes even waiting 20 minutes for a drink. Also, we would all put in our drink orders together, but would only get 3/4 drinks. I understand that places can get busy, but this was a consistent issue throughout the 2 1/2 hours we were there. One of my friends is vegan and ordered a sandwich that had the option to be vegan. She specified twice that she wanted the vegan sandwich, waited 20 minutes for it, then when they finally brought it out, after everyone else at the table had already finished eating, it wasn't the vegan sandwich. While my friend waited for the correct sandwich, a friend and I put in an order of non-HH drinks to drink while we waited. My friend eventually got her sandwich, but we never got our drinks. We reminded staff twice, then ended up requesting the check since the drinks never came out. The manager, Yani, asked if my vegan friend is "completely vegan," she said yes. Then he told us he was going to comp us with dessert but they "don't have any vegan desserts," so he didn't comp us with it. He then said he would comp our last drink orders, but it was for the non-HH drinks that we never received. When we brought up that the service wasn't acceptable, the manager denied our accounts and was not willing to accept fault and apologize. The whole bill should've been comped due to the plethora of issues from start to finish. read more

This place completely blew me away. The steak was absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. The fries and the sauce served with the steak were just as impressive. The sauce especially transported me straight to France. Rich, balanced, and elegant. Every bite felt refined. And the burger? Hands down the most gourmet burger I have ever had. It was luxurious, beautifully crafted, and unbelievably delicious. Not your average burger at all. This is next level dining disguised as comfort food. The appetizers, the drinks, everything we ordered was outstanding. You can taste the quality in every detail. It feels like a high end European brasserie experience. Now the only issue, and it is a big one. There is an automatic 20 percent service charge that goes to the restaurant, not to the servers. We specifically asked our server if the tip was included and she told us no, that the 20 percent goes to the restaurant and not to them. That creates a very uncomfortable situation. If you care about the server, you feel pressured to tip on top of the 20 percent, which essentially turns it into 40 percent in service charges. That is simply not standard practice anywhere else in California. It is not fair to the guests and it is not fair to the wait staff. This policy really needs to be reconsidered because the food and overall experience are excellent, and this is the only thing that would stop people from becoming regulars. If they fix that policy, this place will be unstoppable. The food truly deserves it. read more

That alone made me very happy. The HH menu consists of cocktails, ta pa size food selection, wine and some basics such as fries, sliders, etc. I opted for a dirty martini x2, espresso martini x2, steak tar tar and 1/3 oysters... amazing choices and all for $66 (before taxes and tip). Unreal price and honestly it can't be beat. Only con is parking: street parking is non existent but they do offer valet for $15. read more

Each time I've dined at Coucou in WeHo I'm delighted by the experience: it's very much like finding a hidden bistro in Paris on a quiet side street, though this is right there on Santa Monica, steps from the frenzy of Dan Tana's but the opposite in terms of ambiance: it's lively but not so that you can't talk, with a lovely, sexy patio and also indoor seating. The food is always delicious - exactly the steak/frites or oysters or onion soup you crave from a french bistro, but done extremely well. The owner removed my real review because she didn't like it. I used to be a regular as I loved their ambience. My friends would drop in for some wine and fried olives and my favorite, the steak tartar. The last few times we've been in, the servers couldn't answer our specific questions about wine. Mind you, my friends and I are servers too so we did expect more. This is fine but for the price I'd expect your servers to know more. Additionally, I don't support a business model that adds a mandatory service fee instead of giving servers the tips they earned. Went to CouCou for a date night and it was perfect. We loved the ambience, it felt so intimate and fun. The food was amazing. We would definitely be back, the only thing was our waiter he didn't really give friendly or welcoming attitude.
