I like getting good prices on groceries and other essentials here. But the food court has become a mess. The technology breaks all the time. It takes forever to get food now. I'm a fan of Costco , today however was a bad experience with "Ashley" a young manager in training. Not having the proper information, passing out incorrect information, embarrassing long time customers. She has a nasty attitude, and is not an asset to what's a great place. She's just in training so I certainly hope they make better staffing decisions. The issue was easily worked out at customer service desk by professionals! Selections not been reliable, things you would normally expect to be on hand basically food staples you can't count on to be there. But there's an entire aisle olive oils. I have not seen any Charmin in this store recently, the costco brand just isn't as good, maybe they can work on that. We do frequent other Costcos ( Issaquah, Gig Harbor, Maui Oahu, etc) and it's been the same at Issaquah. Gig Harbor seems to be the best as far as being stocked and have the friendliest staff. Tacoma seems overworked and always busy. Maybe they have expansion plans in the future they are always busy. The value is fair, if you're just buying food prices are quite good. Especially if you can benefit from the stick up and save. The only problem I've ever had in all the years we've been going to a Costco ( any state, or location)! What a great experience. First time inside this warehouse. I had been here for gasoline. Wow excellent samples of the food. I purchased almost every sample loved the Kamichi rice, pho noodles. Mac and cheese, lemon donut, poppi beverage,. Sales throughout the ware house. This is a great location to me. Highly recommended. Lots of parking and the lines move quickly. Lots of boxes for your items. Eggs great price $3.49. I will definitely shop here more often. Great service with cashier and those who had the samples. Garlic bread was awesome as well. read more

Costco originated in Seattle so here they are VERY POPULAR (and usually crowded). This location has a huge parking lot and it is usually full! Come early or come late, and avoid weekends if possible! Who doesn't like a great deal though? My parents got one of those early members in the 80's and we have been coming here most of my life! Well worth the year membership. Even the generic "Kirkland" brand is just as good as any name brand in terms of taste and quality of ingredients. I keep hoping for a Costco in North Tacoma/University Place, but for now I'll brave the crowds and shop here! read more

Costco's security guard E&E Pirate protection are rude to Costco's customers. I was told to pull up front to pickup a heavy item... when a security guard aggressively yelled at me to move. I explained that Costco asked me to wait there, the guard got more aggressive & stood infront of my vehicle so I couldn't even move. I parked & went into see where my help was & E&E moved their vehicle where they told me I could wait- Hypocrites. I do NOT like the policy about swiping your card as you enter. Having to swipe cards slowed everyone down this morning. There was a huge line outside the entrance that caused a delay. I arrived in the parking lot at 9:53 and then had to wait in line until 10:07 to enter the building. In the past, I would go to costco when it first opened in the morning for a quick, efficient shopping experience. Not today. The other issue is the width of pathways in the store near the friut/Vegetables and in the back area by bottled water and toilet paper. This store needs to take "wider measures" to help customers navigate and transit the store as designed. I will start considering Federal Way or Gig Harbor costco. locations in the future. read more

Well, I can finally write a review about Costco and stores like it. When it was just me and my dog that made up the household I couldn't justify getting a membership to a store where it sold it's merchandise in bulk. It was just me and almost always what I needed for grocery shopping was in small amounts. This was back in the early 90's. I wasn't aware of Costco but there was a store just like it called Pace. After Pace vanished along came Sam's Club and then I was made aware of Costco. But even after me became us (Steve and me) and what grew to be a family of five with three little fur kid dogs it was hard to justify getting a membership for bulk. But after getting frustrated with my usual department stores for lack of item availability amongst other aggravations we were ready for a different retail experience. And Costco certainly is that. In fact I feel like a fish out of water going into this overwhelming place and seeing what we can do with the larger bulk items that are on the shelves there. I certainly see things that doesn't take a whole lot of thought as to how it's going to work at home but there are a few things that are a little harder to adjust to. It's still an overwhelming place but the more inexpensive gas station is a real draw but through observation learned that to arrive pretty much as soon as it opens to avoid the long lines. We have a few friends that also have a Costco membership and they actually prefer the Gig Harbor or Puyallup stores as they have commented it's easier to get in and out of those so it's something that bears investigating. It's safe to say we are still adjusting as we are used to going to our usual department store sections like the DVD section or the book section to browse but it just isn't like that here as it is more functional. We have tried the famous and inexpensive hot dog combo at the food court and we were impressed with that experience and it made a very fine miniature lunch. The pizza looks good also and we are looking forward to trying that out as well. We have purchased salads for lunches during work and some wraps from the deli section. Overall it was good planning that out for the week but still required adjustment with the larger portion but not anything too frustrating. I still feel like I am in a crash course learning the ropes at Costco but with some adaptation and refining what would be a good fit for our needs with the bulk approach we will reach a harmonious relationship. I love me some Costco! Known for their scavenger hunt finds - it is always a delight (although can be stressful when super busy)! Parking can be a bear but every time I've went, I've found a spot. I enjoy their food court esp the slice of pizza. Oh, the alone brings my joy. Greasy and good! lol I don't have pizza often and this is a treat for me. When perusing the aisles, I have my staples that I need from toilet paper to batteries. They have such an excellent selection for a good price. Yea, you may have items for a while, but you can't beat the bulk pricing. The people are also helpful. They seem to be well taken care of as employees and I appreciate their community giving. They are a company that also gives back to where they are located. I go at least once per month, even if it's just for gas, and it's worth it. read more

One of the best things about living in this area is that it's a Costcoland - throw a stone, hit a Costco! Starting at $60 for an annual membership, there's a lot of deals to be had from the wholesale store! While similar, each location isn't exactly the same and it's worth while to try others out. I'd consider the Tacoma location to be average in comparison with the others I've gone to. The gas station was pretty okay and was overall smooth. The parking lot was a little crazy and it took a surprisingly long time to leave, so really think before you park! The warehouse itself is a good size. Almost everything was in the locations similar to stores I'm familiar with so that was convenient. I was able to get everything I had on the list plus some impulse buys. The self checkouts worked great. An employee noticed I had alcohol and quickly swooped in to scan all of that plus the large stuff - no asking required! read more

My fiancee and I accidentally left her bright yellow makeup bag in the shopping cart Sunday June 22nd, 2025 we immediately within 10 minutes went back into the Costco store, spoke to the entrance employee, Katherine, who was amazing and very helpful, as was Susan when I phoned later that same day. Initially the item was not returned or located. I called daily Monday and Tuesday following up, Red Coat / Vest Supervisors Ed and Micah assured myself that if it turns up they will phone me as we've been persistent in our efforts to be diligent. My Fiancee had a new bottle of Tom; Ford Rose damalfi, which i personally spent $190 for just a few weeks prior which was brand new, my Fiancee also had approximately $500.00 in reciepts for recent purchased makeup and therefore was very upset at the loss and creating anxiety. Only today, June 28th, 2025 when shopping at the local Puyallup Costco, where my fiancee and I were ONLY made aware after another inquiry about the lost yellow makeup bag that it had been THROWN AWAY and TOSSED. While speaking to lost & found Mgr./ employees Tommy, he was very disrespectful, spoke down to my fiancee in a very rude and disrespectful condensending manner which made her so uncomfortable it brought her to tears, upon returning to me, we immediately went back in the store, spoke to Katherine who openly said; That behavior and his throwing away the lost item(s) IS NOT IN COMPLIENCE WITH OUR COSTCO POLICY, and that we both should go speak to management and or file a formal complaint. Upon speaking to Management I was assured they would make every effort to look in the trash dumpster after closing as it was openly admitted by Tommy the item in question was in fact found Wednesday, and he jokingly expressed how he doesn't have a good reason other than he just threw it away, QUOTE UN QUOTE. This behavior is highly unprofessional, and not what Costco, stands for. I've been a Costco member for many, many years and have never experienced this kind of horrible treatment and disrespect by anyone at Costco. I was assured someone would follow-up with me and at the end of the day, if not Costco on the website, acknowledges how they go out of their way to replace items that people have had to pay for if they have receipts, and or if costco, accidentally throws them away or is not able to locate them in some instances. Be that as it may;due to this and Tommy's extremely disrespectful behavior and nature, we will be filing a formal complaint and likely filing litigation in the court, which, as a result, it is clearly under $10,000, and would be small claims matter. But nonetheless, accountability is for everyone, including Big stores and Corporate America.. I am very disappointed in how poorly this store handled this situation, causing my fiancée to now be depressed over the sentimental value of the lost items and giving her anxiety. I'm writing this mainly about the grocery section. I swear, I've never seen such a huge selection of nuts, seeds, crackers and other like snacks. But if you're looking for things you normally would find at a grocery store, it's hit or miss. For instance, where are the condiments? All I saw were mayonnaise and catsup. Want relish? Make your own because they only have one type of pickle..dill. And there's no liquid coffee creamer, just the powder. Even the dairy section is somewhat limited. But by God if you want bottled water there's so much there it will make your eyes water. This place used to have a better array of goods, but not any more and their prices aren't that great either. Their roast chicken is a bargain and it's good, and their hot dog and pizza deals are also very good. But are they worth enduring the free-for-all in the parking lot just to get in? Anyway, my last trip also saw me going to Safeway to get the items they didn't have at Costco. Perhaps next time I'll just shop at Winco. read more

She refused to check me out because I left 3 things in the cart for her to scan. She scolded me and said I need to go around and take everything out and put it on the belt. She proceeds to take the customer( which was a worker) behind me and check her out until I went around and took my items out of the cart for her. Like all Costco stores, parking can be overwhelming, but you won't be without one. Be mindful of the layout of the parking and yielding when needed. It's a little crazy. Clearly, weekends are their busiest days, but can be manageable, especially if you are patient. There are tons of selections for any needs in your household. Gas prices are a perk here. Just tolerate the lines. Their pharmacy also can provide you pets' prescriptions as well, which is great! Overall, it's another Costco with great deals. I was very impressed with the customer service I was given when calling about a furniture item I had wanted in a set of two. Tacoma Costco was the only store that had two in stock, and, when I called the store, Sam not only checked that two were in stock at that location, but also had both of them put aside for me until I could get there to pick them up (I live over an hour away). Anyhow, we are so happy with the purchase and I really appreciate the extra lengths Sam and several other staff members went to, to make sure I was taken care of! This is a very busy store, yet everyone was still very courteous and willing to help me, from my initial questions to actually loading the furniture in my truck! 10 stars!! read more

Staff seem to be hit-or-miss at this location. Pharmacy staff and vendors have all been super kind, however one of the self-checkout attendants with the grey Karen style haircut have been incredibly rude to myself and my partner on multiple occasions. I think we'll go to the Gig Harbor location from now on where the staff don't have a nasty attitude. What a shame, I really liked having this costco close by. :( read more

Help is sometimes hard to find and they do move products around from time to time. Staff is alway helpful and knowledgeable of the products locations. Sadly, today was the last time I will visit this store. It has become unclean, unsafe and very unpleasant. The downward spiral of the demographics in Tacoma have invaded Costco. I witnessed people stealing, yelling at others and the general state of the store was unclean. When I stood in line to have my picture replaced, a young black woman in front of me launched into a tirade demanding that I "apologize" for my "white privilege". She claimed I was old, retired and probably rich. (All true by the way.) She asked me if I knew that Trump was shot yesterday and informed me that her whole neighborhood was celebrating. (I don't believe that.) I just stood there and ignored her and played on my phone. This seemed to make her even more agitated. When a store employee asked me if there was a problem, I told him I was pretty sure she had a problem. He asked me to wait much further back and I politely told him I would just leave, I would not be back, and it was sad that this store had plunged to such a dismal state. I will shop in Puyallup or Lacy. I have not seen this kind of problem in those locations. In talking with others, it will not surprise me when the Tacoma store closes.
