Costco is the best. This one is as good as any other I've been to. Ive been her probably 100 times and never had an issue. The selection is great and there are always "Costco finds" - special items I didn't even know about but are great in addition to the staples I buy regularly. My wife actually bought my wedding ring here. I've listened to multiple podcasts about Costco and the way the run the business to keep people happy and costs down so I trust that what I'm getting is a good deal and the product itself is quality. I asked the worker named , "Steven M" for help twice while doing the self check out. He scanned his card and acted as if we were stealing and recounted items although he had already recounted and went through items for items on the screen. Second time, he came over acting like he was going to help, lifted the screen and touched it, but backed away and helped another customer when the customer asked for help. I don't know if this is how service is done but I would appreciate if the workers don't ignore customers when asking for help or finish attending to one customer before jumping into another conversation or problem without resolving the first one. I am not sure if this place is a family friendly place , if this is how I am treated with my younger brother and nephew. read more

This marks my 1000th review. In almost 10 years as elite. First time here. I was in the area and needed to return a couple of things. Imagine my surprise that this store has a left entrance and is flipped. Just like Rochester, MN Costco. Need to find my bearings dontcha know. I found a Dowdle Galveston puzzle. This was awesome as I was there in March. I rarely find any steals or deals but found spaezel noodles for 1.97. I bought 4. Also found apple chips for my college son. It's always fun walking through Costco and seeing the variety of things they have. This one's pretty busy normally. But it's nice having a place with a little bit of everything from Plants, clothes, jewelry, appliances, electronics, furniture and food. Multiple free samples and the lines go by decently fast. Staff is friendly. Only downfall I personally don't like is they don't take Mastercards and they don't bag anything. They do have boxes that can assist in putting your smaller items in but pretty much bring your own bag or make multiple trips from your car to your house. You can find a lot of great things. That you didn't think you could buy at a store. Recommend getting it a membership. read more

My favorite location of Costco in MN. There is such a wide variety of things we've gotten from here from plants to socks to technology to food and gift cards as well. We were able to get our wedding cakes from here and decided to go with the cheesecake filling. I can always get a good amount of grocery's I need for the week here and can count on products and brands I like. The value is insane and you can't go wrong with days you can have free samples our kids love it! read more

This review is for the bakery specifically. The store overall is fine. Long story short: If you plan to order a cake from the bakery, they expect you to pick it up on the exact date that you write down or they will toss it out. 2 stars instead of 1: Thankfully they don't ask for a deposit or pre-pay on the order, so you're not out the money if you don't get the cake. Long story long: About 3 weeks ago, I put in an order for my kid's 13th birthday. I was very much looking forward to this cake being made, because they now make a design with the iconic giant Costco teddy bear! So cute! Plus Costco cakes have always been the best tasting store-bought cakes I've ever had. On the order form, I wrote down the date for pickup to be 11/28. Having made the order 3 weeks ago, I completely forgot on the day of and went in the very next day, on 11/29 to pick it up. The day of my kids bday, btw. The cake isn't there when I go to the case that stores the orders. I ask a staff member at the bakery what may have happened to it, and they said if a cake is not picked up on the date specified, they toss it the next morning. The case they had for cake orders was practically empty. It only had 3 other cakes stored in it, so it couldn't be a storage issue. They said it had something to do with contamination/health guidelines. I lied and said I understood. It doesn't make sense to me when it was only one day. So why does the order form ask for a phone number of the member if they aren't going to call and ask if they still plan to pick it up? What a waste of product and time to not even give the courtesy of doing that. The staff said the best they could do would be to write a custom message on one of the pre-made cakes already on display for sale. Of course none of them were the one I had wanted. I don't blame the employees at all. If that's the store policy, then they have to uphold that. This bummed me out so much that I left my cart of stuff and walked out. I went somewhere else for another cake. Costco, please consider changing your policy/procedure for cake ordering. If the member doesn't pick up their cake on the date specified, call them and ask if they are still planning to pick it up. Maybe give a 2-3 day grace period rather than one day? If there isn't time to make phone calls, or if storage is an issue, put a sign up or a note on the order form stating if the cake isn't picked up on the day of, it won't be available? This would save a lot of grief on both sides. read more

It's too hectic, the aisles by the freezer has pallets down the lane which you can barely get one cart let alone two at once, not enough room to look at all the items without feeling you're being rushed to get moving. I think I'll stick with Sam's club. read more

As others have said, this store is crowded even on a weekday. Entering through the parking lot I see people leaving with their basket filled with cases stacked of water and other items. Where do people store all the stuff? The store is mostly grocery items but I have only two problems, even though I have to adjust my mindset that this is not like any other store. Organization: There is a dairy section, but only a few dairy items. There is more dairy products in other parts of the store with no signage. Same as the large meat section, there are other parts of the store when next to the clothes table, there is a cooler with more meat. Selection: There is no lactose free milk, if you want yogurt or cottage cheese, there is one blend only of each. No Mozzarella except for a mushy bag of soft round globes of smearing cheese, not sure what that is. I'll just casually mention the patrons all seem to be in a rush harking back to barely stocked stores during the early pandemic days when there was a panic rush to clear the shelves of creme of asparagus soup. read more

This is specific to the optical department in Maplewood (because I think each store the optical is run by a different organization). I went in to get a price on just replacing the lenses in a pair of glasses. The lady said the frame was bent so she could not help me. The frames are not bent, she was just not interested because there was not enough money in it. She does not understand that if you don't provide the service on the small things you won't ever get the large sales. My normal processes is to replace the lenses in one set of frames and one new set of glasses and I do that every year. read more

I've been coming to this Costco weekly since they opened in the late 2000s, so I suppose I might have some insight for someone who has arrived at a point in life where they find themselves reading these words. I have shopped at all the area Costco locations as well, enough that I can confidently say they're all basically the same. Geographical convenience should really be the only factor in deciding "which Costco should I go to." The value of a Costco membership is as advertised. You pay an annual membership fee, and then you buy enough items at bulk prices that you spend considerably less money in the long term. This is true even for me, a bachelor living alone. Of course, not everything on Costco's shelves makes sense for me, but there is plenty that does. Enough that once I started coming here regularly, it was easily noticeable how much less frequently I needed to shop in general, and how much less I was spending on household items. You really notice, even if you're just shopping for one. And yet, this place is teeming with families. One of the worst things about shopping at Costco, nay... THE worst thing, is just what a zoo it is when it's busy. Nothing against the good badge-wearin' people of Costco, but families will run you over with a cart loaded with bottled water and they'll never know it because it's all they can do to wrangle their toddlers. It's war out there man... They have a snack bar! They rather cavalierly call it a "food court", but it's just a single counter with a modest selection of food. Their pizza by the slice is my favorite, but I'll also get their chicken bake, or their bratwurst. It's all very reasonably priced, but none of it is made to order so you'll only get it as advertised. The staff are very professional. As such, even when the lines seem intolerably long, they move quickly. Unfortunately, if you have extemporaneous questions, it's hard to locate staffers on the floor where most of the goods are. (Pro-tip: usually someone is folding clothes in the clothes area.) I'm able to work it so that I only need to fill my gas tank as often as I go to Costco, and that's saved me some cash over the years. Gas is on average 10-12 cents cheaper than at nearby gas stations. I'm not sure why, but their gas pumps, which are members-only, don't have windshield washing supplies. (Speaking of members-only, the one Costco department I am aware of that is NOT members-only is the liquor section. This is the case for all Costco locations in Minnesota, and is a consequence of state legislation which forbids "private liquor clubs". I don't drink, but if you're a non-member who wants to do some fancy booze shopping, do not scoff at Costco. They take great pride in their selection and they do shockingly brisk business on wine.) Costco's Pharmacy has been my supplier of prescription medications ever since I started needing such things. They have competitive pricing, and also offer pet medication. Costco also has a tire center where I got my most recent set of four. I don't feel like they are priced particularly reasonably, but you can save some if you watch for specials. And there is an optical center with an actual optometrist. I suppose I could go on for quite a while about just what there is at Costco, but I will say one more important thing. Sometimes you will discover something they offer that you like. Say, for instance, a particular box of some frozen chicken dinner that maybe comes in a box of four portions. Sometimes they will stop carrying that thing. And then maybe bring it back a year or two later. It can be cruel. You should get a Costco membership and make regular visits to your most convenient location. They generally only stock items whose quality they can stand by, so you'll usually be glad you tried something if you take that chance. Beyond that, just figure out what makes sense to get there and keep getting it there. And watch out for families. They will steamroller you if they have to. read more

Well..... i always go back, try 1-3 more times before writing a very different review, sadly, but a lot can happen in 11 months There seems to be a big change store wide in many new staff. That's exciting fine. My comment is regarding the pizza from their food counter. I have had three very serious surgeries on my jaw since April, the most recent, just 5 days ago, an emergency at Mayo. It is very difficult to eat hard food, so today I again asked for " extra" not double sauce, and if possible could they put a bit on the crust. I was very nice, gracious in tone. This time I told them why and mentioned my serious surgery . I noticed the pies they made to sell per piece were gorgeous-- THICK, nicely risen lots of sauce and cheese and pepperoni . I picked mine up unopened and went home. Shock. Thin... almost no sauce, quickly dropped the sauce then spread it too thin ( 1 inch fr crust it was a bit thicker), Crust hard ( no sauce as requested), bland because flavor comes fr the sauce... last time i ordered my " double sauce request", I actually got yelled at ( yes) by the new prep food manager who personally came over , tall non- white distinguished gentleman, and in a booming voice (which could be heard fr the cash registers) he told me," you can NOT have double sauce, that is not cost effective since we do not charge you...... you can have EXTRA sauce..." (I lightly mentioned this at customer service later while working on a return.) But today's is the worst I have ever received... not ordering any more whole pizzas here ( buy 2-3 per month ). read more

The Auto/Tire department has shown to be sub-par at best. Ordered a battery for my car three+ weeks ago. It came in and rather than holding it for me they sold it. Leading up to that... I tried calling to get status updates on it, put on hold forever or was told they would call back and they didn't. Finally went in, waited in line for 30+ minutes only to be told the above...they sold it. The guy at the counter offered that I drive to the Burnsville store to get it with no guarantee it would be there when I arrived. I said no, then we talked about Chaska and Rochester. He eventually came around to offer drive and get it himself. In the end, it got "re-ordered" and now it looks like another 10 day wait with no promise they will hold it - just "Be here at 9:55 AM on Tuesday and you will get it". Not even a semi-reasonable response to someone that may not have that kind of flexibility in their work life. Unflinching commitment to mediocrity. What a clown show. read more

Neck and neck with Garret's from Chicago in which J thinks Garrett's wins hands down, but he's biased and from the area. Pleasantly surprised to see a little demo with samples being handed out by a nice sales person. Costco's Kirkland brand has some really good choices for a reasonable price. Pharmacy review: I've had my prescriptions filled, and received flu vaccinations, by this pharmacy since I moved to MN. I have found them to be especially helpful and knowledgeable, not to mention one of the most affordable pharmacies around. One pharmacist in particular, I cannot remember his name but he has rad sleeve tattoos, has answered numerous questions of mine over the last year and half and just generally has a fantastic and friendly attitude. They seem to remember me when I pick up my meds and that feels nice. No, they aren't open on Sundays and are not my pharmacy for urgent care/late night needs but for my standing medications they are spot on. read more

How do I love you, Costco? Let me count the ways. 1. Shopping carts with TWO SEATS IN EVERY STANDARD CART. As the parent of twin one-year-olds, I cannot overstate how much I love this. At Target, I can only fit one twin in the cart seat while the other twin inevitably busies his tiny self doing things like empting my cart, hitting his twin brother on the head with the canned goods, or flinging produce at passing shoppers. Double-seated carts FTW. You make my life complete. 2. Savings. 6 pounds of organic, antibiotic-free, free-range chicken for $19? Yes. Yes, I think I will. I buy everything in bulk here--detergent, eggs, frozen meals, Clif bars, you name it--and I save a ton of money. This might not be an effective method for households that DON'T have four ravenous boys to feed, but mine does. And we go through things like paper towels and diapers and wipes fast, too. 3. Discounted liquor! Hell-ooooo there. 4. Super-friendly and helpful store associates. So far without exception. This may have a lot to do with point #6. 5. SAMPLES. I can bring a small horde of cranky, hungry boys grocery shopping with me and they are transformed into a little knot of quiet and happy boys because every few steps there is a new sample station with a little cup of something warm and delicious for them to munch delightedly on. And the samples are enormous. Dinnertime for twins: solved. 6. I derive a lot of satisfaction from shopping at an establishment that pays their employees a living wage and provides them with reasonable working conditions (and a company that is headed by a CEO who doesn't take home an exorbitant salary for himself). It's a big reason why I've shifted all my grocery shopping away from Wal-Mart and Target and to Costco and Aldi. Serious props to Costco for their progressive and sane business practices. They have a complete assortment of grocery items - in large, jumbo, and ginormous sizes. Clothing, housewares, furniture, computers, seasonal outdoor gear ... How much will you spend? You will spend a lot. Items average 10-20 dollars each. I usually multiply the number of items in my cart by 10 as a guesstimate. But you get a lot too. Just watch the perishable items and you'll be fine. Is every item a steal? Not always. Always have a good feeling for the price per oz or item because big package isn't always big savings. This Costco is gross. Today I couldn't find a single check out lane where the employees were wearing their mask correctly. Either the cashier or the food handler or both had their noses out. I finally found a cashier that had hers on correctly but then another girl who had her nose hanging out came over and took my cart and started putting my items on the belt. I politely asked her if she would mind pulling her mask up over her nose and she refused. I didn't want to press the issue with her since everyone is so hostile about the issue. I was going to let someone know at the service desk on my way out but the woman at the service desk had her nose out too so I didn't bother. Well my dad and I got the exec card so least to say I was expecting more. I'm used to the Costco location near Qualcomm stadium in San Diego, which I love. This location however is completely unorganized in my opinion. Hard to find anything / know what they offer in the aisles. You first walk in the store and pass a bunch of random aisles full of flash drives and random things of that nature. They have little options, they only have ice water 19oz bottles and small Kirkland bottles. I hate ice mountain water so that's a no and I'm not 5 so small bottles no thanks. Regarding peanut butter they only have skippy that is regular, not natural. They don't have a lot of toiletry products either. Helpful staff at the front end but rude lady that checked my receipt today, she didn't care about being there you could tell. I left with $30 worth of product today, about 4/5 items... not really worth the 20min drive :/ read more

I'm with Vy on this one. From now on I only go in if I'm desperate. It IS tighter and it seems to bring out the more obnoxious side of town for customers. Yet I'm here often enough if all I need is gas. It's the closest one to St. Paul. The ONLY time to come for shopping is when they first open during the week. The staff here are amazing, as is the stock. My beef is with the costumers who think they're above the rest of us and the freaking mask mandate. On my one trip today I saw countless numbers of ding dongs with masks totally down to their chins, hanging on one ear or off so they can talk to others. There is a smug look on their ridiculous faces. Who does this?? Pariahs of society here. So fair warning to those who care about keeping ourselves and others safe and, oh, the mask MANDATE still in place. We've used Costco to buy cars, TVs, diapers, our groceries, etc. We live equal distance from this one and the St Louis Park one, but prefer this one for two reasons: 1 - the parking lot is 100,000,000 times better than the one in SLP, which is an absolute nightmare even on a calm day. 2 - the rockabilly guy who works here. I wonder if he knows how much random strangers appreciate his presence? My spouse and I always get a kick out of seeing him. I even had a co-worker bring up rockabilly guy in conversation unexpectedly today, while we were discussing music. Apparently spotting him at the Maplewood Costco is like seeing a local celebrity. LOVE LOVE LOVE this costco!! We pay $100 yearly for the executive membership which you get cash back from your purchases. They mail us a check every year which is usually over $100 to spend there, best deal ever!! Considering we bought our TV, Wii, entertainment center (with fireplace built in!!), elliptical machine, my sons giant 58 inch teddy bear, and tons of groceries every month, I will never stop going! You can buy huge amounts of spinach, raspberries and blueberries at a fraction of the price of other stores. Even if we just purchased our milk there we would be saving money, our son goes through a couple gallons a week! Huge boxes of diapers, wipes, dried fruit, single serving squeeze apple sauce, it's the perfect store if you have small children. Finally, their return policy is literally life-changing. I bought my mom a wii and ended up returning it a couple months later, after being played on. No questions asked, full refund. I am so glad Costco is finally in the East Metro. I used to belong to Sam's Club but quit because of the way WalMart treats their employees. Costco employees work very hard but are unionized and receive health insurance. I go with a list to avoid being distracted or overwhelmed, and when walking the aisles, I frequently ask myself, "Do I really need to have three pounds of chocolate truffles in my cupboard begging to be eaten?" and "Will I really be able to consume an entire pallet of apples before they go bad?" Since I make my own bread, I buy 50 lb bags of bread flour ($12) and 2 lb bags of dried yeast ($5) here. I did the math and figured out that my bread costs about 25 cents a loaf. But Costco has great ciabatta for $2-3 a loaf if you aren't inclined to bake it yourself. Best bets here: organic spinach or mixed baby greens, $4 for a giant container; berries, pineapple; maple syrup; olive oil; Parmigiano-Reggiano and other gourmet cheeses; free-range eggs; salmon in quantity; laundry detergent; paper products. Costco always sells some core products, but other items come and go. If you see something really interesting, get it now, it may not be there next time. Another bonus for Costco members: gas at their on-site fueling station is always about 10 cents less per gallon than the going rate around town. I go to Costco about every 2 weeks and usually gas up when I'm there. I figure that pays for my $50 annual membership. read more

This has to be one of the least crowded Costcos I've ever patronized. That automatically gets a big thumbs-up, because the masses of people and the lines are really just the banes of warehouse shopping. I typically rant and rave about big box-anythings, but I appreciate Costco for several (mostly grocery-related) reasons: 1) Those big crates of grape tomatoes and other veggies are my personal godsend. Much cheaper at Costco, and more eco-friendly since the typical grocery store only carries pint-size containers. 2) I cannot *stand* an empty freezer (or larder. Larder?) so I always need a ton of frozen organic chicken breasts, shrimp, and fudgesicles. Half of my freezer is Trader Joe's items, and the other half is from Costco. 3) Hubby is one of those cereal freaks. Best prices for the volume, though the selection lately has been a little lacking. And, of course, I can get a cow-ful of organic milk there SO much cheaper than the usual grocery store. 4) Yeah, I am that person who buys 84 rolls of TP and 16 rolls of paper towel at once. I guess I'm terrified of running out...never have... 5) Electronics - no-questions asked return policy is AWESOME when it comes to electronics. I have never bought a big-screen TV for the Super Bowl and then returned it, but I know people who have...I am not endorsing this, just stating the facts :P The Maplewood store employees will even unload your cart FOR YOU at the checkout line. It's so crowded, it's almost like the Minnesota State Fair, except everyone is buying stuff in bulk and no one is wearing a fanny pack. It's really hard to find parking here and the checkout lines are redonkoulos! I'm pretty sure the lines are long because of the self check out lanes. The last time I did the self check out it took me an extra five minutes to lift the 48 pack of water bottles just so I could scan the dang barcode! The point of my rant is that they need to have professionals controlling the check out process here. Anyways, the rest of this store is pretty standard so the items are easy to find but it is still impossible to find staff members when you have a question. Sample days are always fun if there aren't hoards of people mobbing the bagel bites lady. read more
