Major nostalgia as I visited here today considering this is a shopping mall I used to frequent in…read moremiddle school. While many former stores remain, many don't. The decline of shopping malls in general along with world news such as Claire's going bankrupt (as of August 2025 this location has 75% off for closing reasons), the downfall of the economy and inflation have all contributed to the current makeup here. I believe the Maplewood Mall is making space for entrepreneurs to take over varying shops as I did spot a nice handful. Contrary, the mall's buzz is dead and not as lively as I remember. Some things I do appreciate presently are the preservation of the carousel in the main space (it's gorgeous), Cinnabon is going strong and roughly 2-4 large spaces for kids to play. I am all about indoor spaces considering MN is a tough state to live in during the winter. Additionally, I adore the pockets of culture here from Pan Asian Center to smaller shops selling handmade goodies and the neat concept of the cotton candy cloud bar (how fun!). Overall, coming here to get steps in or explore won't leave you with stealing all your money. I'm glad the space is still getting used. Enjoy!!

Through thorough analysis…read moreof the cities though this place is by far the best when it comes to searching for blind boxes including the all famous Labubu and even some really fun Lafufus. A lot of the cart booths scattered throughout the mall sell replicas but they can be quite fun for designs and honestly a great place for any one who doesn't know the difference (for parents who are shopping for kids). For the authentic stuff there's the pan Asia center which has a whole section to pick from close to the mall entrance as well as a vendor at one of the repurposed jewelry cases who will let you swap. Another shop for authentics would be at Little Diva Hidden treasure which I've noticed, at least the last time I visited, has cheaper options. Besides this the mall also has a bargain bin store, a make your own teddy bear store (not that different from build a bear), a K-pop store, and several others. In the center atrium there are also usually some bounce houses that I always see kids enjoying. I think the point in coming here is to not expect a typical mall experience. If you do, you'll be met with disappointment. This mall has a place and is one to come to if you're looking for unique items you can't find easily elsewhere.

ALL this unusual attention to layout, floor plan, different colorations , larger display areas that better showcase the products ( versus ' packing-it-all-in merchandising'). LOVED LOVED and truly APPRECIATED this multi sensory shopping experience and TERRIFIC product selection/ truly beautiful enhanced display thoughtfulness/placement. So I very much appreciate the effort put into this store.) Thank you for a wonderful shopping experience!

A random thought popped in my head one night as I was sitting in front of the television in my…read morehotel room. I hadn't been to FYE in eons. I did a quick search. Minnesota has a grand total of two FYE stores. One is in Duluth. The other is this store at Maplewood Mall. The following day, I drove up the Maplewood Mall. It was a perfect day to hibernate in a warm mall. It was -22°C with a windchill of -32°C. I was up for exercising my arms, legs, and credit card in this store. FYE is located on the first floor, in centre court by the carousel. There was a sale going on. I walked in. In the past, I hit FYE for used and new CDs. Naturally, the store has changed with the times. I like the change. I was in awe of the wall full of snacks and candy. OMG! I actually audibly said that looking at various mochi flavours, Pocky, and Garbage Pail Kids cereal. One word: heaven! I then lost it in front of the Hello Kitty and Pusheen section. A Hello Kitty backpack with food and beverages on it? Yes, please! Pusheen drinks and apparel? I want all of it! Luckily, there was a sale going on. If you bought one clothing item, you got the second one of equal or lesser value for 50% its regular price. I didn't own any Pusheen or Hello Kitty clothing until I got a t-shirt with both characters on it and a long-sleeved shirt with Pusheen that day. The music section is much smaller at FYE these days. Seeing Depeche Mode on vinyl made my day. There were also Funko Pop figures of Neil Tennant from Pet Shop Boys that made my day. There are also a bunch of plushies in this store. The Squishmallows tugged at my heart. If you are into Grogu (also known as Baby Yoda and The Child), you need to check out the merchandise here. I have never seen so many Grogu products, from a lava lamp, to a powerbank. I ended up getting a Grogu PopSocket. I had never seen one before. I also got a USB C cable that was sparkly and purple. It is rare to see that combination. It was on sale. Yay! I removed a star from my rating for how long it took someone to attend to the cashout area. I probably waited there for a good seven minutes until a male staff member came out of the back area to scan my items so I could pay for them. He was nice. I paid with a credit card. It was great. I got my goodies in a large bag. I thanked him and happily hauled both the bag and me out the door. My USB C cable works like a charm. I used it earlier today to charge my phone. It's perfect. I loved all my purchases here. If you see someone with a Pusheen shirt on, you know that it's me. It was nice visiting an FYE again. I'd definitely return to this store when I'm back in the city. There was so much happening, and the energy was great. The center itself is definitely still a work in progress, but you can feel the potential. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind. We were greeted with huge smiles from the moment we walked in. I even met two of the owners in separate moments, and both were so warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. One vendor in particular made our experience extra special. Even with a language barrier, he was so passionate about what he was selling and loved interacting with us. When my toddler was sad to leave, he handed her a little keychain -- and she lit up. It was such a sweet moment. They clearly still have things to iron out as they grow, but I can absolutely see why they wanted to open the doors and start building momentum. There's something unique here, and I'm excited to see how it continues to come together.

At the time, my husband just wanted to get rid of his old console and would be happy with any amount he made. The store has a wide selection of video games for a variety of consoles. But I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon alone with a mission: Magic the Gathering cards. I was looking for Innistrad bundle set (2021), which they did not have. The shopkeeper led me to a small section of the store and they have very limited trading card games available. They had the draft set booster for way over the market price. They had it listed for $139 when TCGPlayer has brand new, factory sealed for $78, and have median pricing ~$103. Maybe it was because I was passive or didn't do in-depth research prior, but I felt hostility from the shopkeeper - like he needed me to make a decision and buy something despite they said they didn't have the bundle set I was looking for or get out. They stood by me as I processed what I should do since they didn't have the bundle set I was looking for. I simply thanked them for their time and left.
