Major nostalgia as I visited here today considering this is a shopping mall I used to frequent in middle school. While many former stores remain, many don't. The decline of shopping malls in general along with world news such as Claire's going bankrupt (as of August 2025 this location has 75% off for closing reasons), the downfall of the economy and inflation have all contributed to the current makeup here. I believe the Maplewood Mall is making space for entrepreneurs to take over varying shops as I did spot a nice handful. Contrary, the mall's buzz is dead and not as lively as I remember. Some things I do appreciate presently are the preservation of the carousel in the main space (it's gorgeous), Cinnabon is going strong and roughly 2-4 large spaces for kids to play. I am all about indoor spaces considering MN is a tough state to live in during the winter. Additionally, I adore the pockets of culture here from Pan Asian Center to smaller shops selling handmade goodies and the neat concept of the cotton candy cloud bar (how fun!). Overall, coming here to get steps in or explore won't leave you with stealing all your money. I'm glad the space is still getting used. Enjoy!! read more

A wonderfully weird and eclectic selection of shops to browse for a mall. Through thorough analysis of the cities though this place is by far the best when it comes to searching for blind boxes including the all famous Labubu and even some really fun Lafufus. A lot of the cart booths scattered throughout the mall sell replicas but they can be quite fun for designs and honestly a great place for any one who doesn't know the difference (for parents who are shopping for kids). For the authentic stuff there's the pan Asia center which has a whole section to pick from close to the mall entrance as well as a vendor at one of the repurposed jewelry cases who will let you swap. Another shop for authentics would be at Little Diva Hidden treasure which I've noticed, at least the last time I visited, has cheaper options. Besides this the mall also has a bargain bin store, a make your own teddy bear store (not that different from build a bear), a K-pop store, and several others. In the center atrium there are also usually some bounce houses that I always see kids enjoying. I think the point in coming here is to not expect a typical mall experience. If you do, you'll be met with disappointment. This mall has a place and is one to come to if you're looking for unique items you can't find easily elsewhere. read more

There's not many nice malls left, at least not south of the metro, and this one was wonderful! We went here with our toddler to release some energy on a blazing 100 degree day. He enjoyed all of the free inflatables, the new children's space station with foam blocks. They have many stores to shop in, a really nice food court with mochi donuts and more! I love Maplewood Shopping Mall! Not only is it a great place to shop, it has lots of fun places to explore and excellent food. The vibe is chill, the staff is nice and helpful, and it is safe and clean. The fun places to explore are the Enchanted Fantasy Film Museum: a costume and prop and movies museum and Sustainable Safari , an interactive Zoo in MN that guests are able to pet and feed animals such as Kangaroo's, Wallaby's, Coatimundi's, Capybara's, Royal Yak, Emu's, Armadillo's, Greater Grison, and American Bader! There is also an Asian Cultural center and merchandise shop, "The Pan Asian Center" which is renovated from what used to be Macy's. Their food court is wonderful, as they have a variety of foods! My favorite Mexican restaurant, Maya Cuisine is available at the Food Court and it's the only second location other than their home location on Central Ave in Minneapolis. Most importantly, this mall has an amazing helpful security team and police. Just yesterday, I had to call security which number is posted all over the mall. I suffered a stroke 10 years ago and although I recovered almost completely, it affected my short term memory, and to deal with that I need to take pictures with my phone like places I parked, but I was running late to meet with my friends at this mall so I completely forgot to take a picture of where I parked. After enjoying the day at this mall and it was time to get back to my car, I couldn't for the life of me, remember where I parked and after searching in the excessive heat, which was on this day close to 100 degrees, I gave up and called mall security. The Mall Security phone number is thankfully posted all over the mall. Security immediately hooked me up with the Mall Police who took me in their vehicle to find my car, which was parked at the complete opposite end of the mall from where I originally thought. This mall has a lot of new stores that have come in. I love to stop and get a massage while I'm here. One time I was on the waitlist and stopped to feed the animals at Sustainable Safari. I have had my eyebrows threaded in this mall, and used to be a frequent customer at Lens Crafters where they carry very fashionable designer frames. The mall has your typical Macy, kohls, and JCPenney. Along with Victoria's Secret, Hollister, and H&M. What makes this mall unique is the merry-go-round and there also is a train that kids can ride around the mall! read more

Maplewood Mall has some vacancies, as many do these days, but they also have unique spots that make it well worth a visit. FYE is a great pop culture/gift shop, the Carousel is beautiful and unique, Sustainable Safari is great, they have fun activities such as trampolines and little eclectic vehicles kids can rent and drive around, and they have some great events such as trading card shows, Maplecon, and some other celebrity appearances (such as Kevin from the Office book signing, KJ Osborn from the Vikings, etc). I dropped by the only FYE store in the Twin Cities. It was at Maplewood Mall. I came on a frigid day. Hibernating indoors when the windchill is -32°C outside is perfect. Maplewood Mall is surprisingly one of the better malls in the Twin Cities. Although there were a few stores that haven't survived this pandemic, it had a cheerful, hopeful atmosphere with many shoppers and stores open. The most pleasant surprise was seeing a carousel. I was on the second floor and I looked at it with delight. It made me happy to see a number of rides for kids and kids at heart. I absolutely loved shopping at FYE. I spent a long time that this store. I hadn't visited one in years. I parked closer to Kohl's. I like that you don't have to enter the mall to shop there, but I cut through this store from the mall anyway! The major anchor stores at this mall are Kohl's, JC Penney, Macy's, and Barnes & Noble. I wasn't hungry, so I didn't spend a ton of time in the food court. There were roughly eight eateries there, including ViVi Bubble Tea and Tastes of Saigon. This mall has some gems. I stumbled on the African-American Museum and learned so much being there. The man at this museum was so great giving me some background information on the purpose of establishing this museum. Artifacts come into the museum weekly. During this pandemic, malls in Canada feel the need to remove seats and tables. I get it from sanitation and safety perspectives. I also feel for folks who need to rest and can't spend a lot of time walking. It was nice seeing comfy chairs scattered around this mall, with older shoppers taking a load off and relaxing. I didn't walk the entire mall. This pandemic hasn't made me feel comfortable doing a grand tour in any large space. I also did so much damage at FYE that I would have been broke shopping at more stores! I had a lovely shopping experience here. I spent a good 5 hours here today. I needed to get out of the house and my 4 year did too. I'll be honest, this has been my least favorite mall to go to over the last 20 years. Today though was honestly the most fun I've ever had in a mall!! What brought us here today in the first place is they were hosting a free kids decorating a paper lantern event. They will get hung up in the mall for...something (I missed those details) . Of course my review for today is based on all the new fun kid things they have (I won't lie, I had a freakin blast too!) A train, those bungee trampoline things for kids, some super fun oversized stuffed animals you can ride and race up and down one hall, the carousel, but most excitingly- the coolest petting zoo I've ever been to in my life!! They actually have a pretty impressive selection for their food court too. read more

Don't go here. Upon entering the front doors the smell of septic covers the air. The floors are covered in dirt, grime, dried gum and stains that resemble blood. The Champs store smells of marijuana as soon as you enter it. While waiting in line the man in front of me pulled a full cologne bottle out of his pocket labeled, "tester" and bragged to the man behind the counter about what he stole. I would avoid the run down bathrooms at all costs. Every toilet is clogged or has trash covering the seat and floor. Two "security" guards walked past me, dressed as if they were party to a crime rather than a presence of protection and security. This once, very beautiful mall is now nothing but a ghetto stomping grounds for people of the like. I felt unsafe, and like I needed a shower and I was only there for ten minutes. Very sad what the Democratic run cities and surrounding suburbs have become in the last five years. read more

Visiting from Hawaii! Maplewood Mall is quaint. It reminds me a lot of Windward Mall back home in Kaneohe, Hawaii. It's a small mall with the common stores you'd find at most malls (e.g. Hot Topic, Panda Express, Barnes & Noble, Spencer's, etc.) I love that it isn't overwhelmingly large! I was able to find what I wanted easily and make my way out. This seems like the mall to go to if you don't like crowds. Oh and I must say, the food court here is cute and comfy. Also, they have a cute two story carousel / merry-go-round on the lower level. Parking is great too. Another bonus during this pandemic time: people actually wear face masks here! Maplewood Mall used to be worth the trip, especially when one of my kids got their whole family rides free on the carousal during your birthday month postcard. They have good kid stores like H&M and Crazy 8 and a Barnes and Noble! Crazy 8 is going down hill in quality and the sales just feel scammy. The people working the kiosks are agressive. It feels like some sort of weird flea market. Nope, dont follow my kids and ask the about their cell phones and call them princesses. Has the carousal always used dollar store feather dusters as their plumes? I feel like they tried to shine this place up about 5 years ago but it didnt work. This used to be my favorite mall growing up but over the years it's started to slow down and a lot of shops have closed since. However there are still the department stores and retailers that is keeping the mall going. I mainly come here for the department stores but I do shop around inside if I find myself needing new clothes, gifts, etc. The food court has a variety of options to pick from. One of the cleaning lady at the food court asked me to clean up my mess when I was done eating. It was two pieces of napkins I forgot underneath my table. This happened on Thursday June 16th at 2pm. I took a photo of this woman as proof. This is unbelievable for a worker to go around telling customers to do her job for her. Yes, it'll be nice to pick up after yourself but I honestly forgot the two napkins which I did pick up after she asked out of kindness. Apparently other people have experienced the same encounter from the same woman when I showed them her photo. People have told me that even if it's not their mess, she'll ask and point out for them to clean it up. This is unacceptable and I will expose this so people are aware. Customers shouldn't have to encounter a stranger telling them to do her job for her anywhere. I come to this mall anywhere from 3-4 times a week to enjoy the vendors there and spend time with my toddler but sadly because of this incident, I will take my business elsewhere until something is done about this woman. What do you think, my mind is blown at the fact that this had been going on for some time now and she still works there and is still telling customers to do her job? read more

What happened to this place?! It's a ghost town now and a lot of the stores I remember being here are nowhere to be found and vacant. The only store worth going to now is the Macy's and it's not even that great of a Macy's. Remember when this mall used to be the place to go? They had a circus pizza, two movie theaters across the parking lot and a decent food court. It's sad but I don't see this place being open much longer. read more

Maplewood Mall has changed a lot since I remember . The last time I was there prior to today was in the early auts. I liked Maplweood mall a lot more wayyy back in the day before it was remodeled to what it is now. Another mall with a carousel. It seems very kid friendly. There is a big jumpy thing right outside of Old Navy with the harness bungee cord thingys. Looked like fun. There is still an Aladdin's castle? Wow- that's pretty 90's. There is a train now. Kind of strange considering it doesn't seem to have that much room to drive around, but if the little kiddos like it. Yay for them. Stores are alright. Pretty much the same selection as other malls.They had the two stores I needed for my expansion of "career cubicle separates". This is an ok mall. I come to this mall frequently because this is the closest mall to me. It has basic stores that I like such as Charlotte Russe, H&M, Cotton On. I was sad to see Forver21 go. Now, I'll have to drive to Rosedale or MOA if I wanted to shop there. However, Maplewood Mall has basics store that will get me by. Food court options are good.. Blueprint Burgers is amazing! Their burgers are insanely delicious! And then there's Panda Express, Subway, Quench, and a few others-- a little bit of everything and different. read more

Maplewood has just about everything that I could want in a mall - shops, restaurants and plenty of parking. While there is a decent range of stores here they seem to be mostly either selling hats, sportswear or jewelry (I should point out that if this is what you are here for then you can't complain!). The mall overall feels a little outdated in terms of its decor, however it is clean and spacious. The food court area has ample seating and is situated a decent distance from the stores so that the whole mall doesn't smell of appetizing food! The central area has a nice carousel for kids and space to sit or grab a coffee. There is also a mini-train ride that goes around the mall. I've only given 3 stars here as I wish there were more stores or at least variety of stores and the fact that its decor feels outdated. read more

I grew up shopping at Brookdale Mall, so trust that I know a dank hell hole when I see one. Maplewood is like the love child of Brookdale and Mall of America. It's the kind of love child that grows up to pay back debts slowly and with a variety of payment methods. Maybe it's legitimate, maybe it's gaming you. It's darkly lit and depressing, but it's big and there's a carousel. Why a carousel? I think dark carousels are eerie in the same vein of macabre as a badly painted clown. The brightest space I found was in Hot Topic, which is probably an anti-shoplifting measure more than a subtle decor choice. The most unique stores were a uniform shop (with surprisingly hip nurse shoes in stock ) and a dodgy health supply shop. The arcade was respectable despite the near death of its breed. Macy's clothing selection gives away the assumed demographic, with nothing more high-end than BCBG and mostly urban brands. If you're truly after that fare, you'll find better deals at Marshall's or T.J. Maxx. Full disclosure: I made the drive out to Maplewood so I could buy a tube of MAC's Viva Glam lipstick in Lady Gaga's shade. It's sold out at most MAC counters and online, so I was thrilled to have tracked it down. If by any chance you're looking for it, Maplewood 's MAC counter in Macy's is your best bet. read more

I really dislike this mall, and yet, we keep coming back here. I suspect that will change given the departure of the Gap, NY&Co and Old Navy. Really, I think the only things that keep us coming back are the H&M and the Kohls. I hate going to the mall and seeing people walking around in their Tweety Bird pajama pants that they likely have been wearing since the night before. I'm not asking for anything fancy, but couldn't you put on some real pants? Meehhhhhhhh. I give you 3 stars instead of 2 stars simply because you did a good job cleaning up the place. The updates made you at least tolerable to wander around, nice lighting and carpet and such. There just isn't much to this mall - but at least they have a Macy's, Kohl's and H&M. If you are looking to spend a day walking around, browsing and enjoying the people watching this mall is not for you. If you are looking to go to a particular store for a particular purchase, then this place is great. One plus, it is typically not terribly crowded, so parking is usually quite easy and there are no crowds/lines to fight with while shopping. Oh, and don't make the mistake of buying a Pretzel Maker pretzel, Auntie Annie's is just downstairs, take the few extra steps for the superior taste. read more

JCPenny Never again will I order online from here. Worst experience ever. Two months into now and no resolution. 30-40 minute waits for customer service phone number to be told there is nothing they can do about my lost order, multiple times. No refund available in store or online. No one has authority to cancel my order because it is not received anywhere. It said 4-7 days in my email and like I said, going on two months with no refund or cancel of order. Here's a good one, called the store yesterday and waited on the phone for 20 minutes to be told all items Sam's one we're in store and ready for pickup. Went in today for my forth visit and they said the computer says there is no order so there is no order there....I hope this dinosaur dies soon and let businesses that have real customer service take over. I am phasing out online shopping and try to keep it local. This is just one reason why. read more

This Sears Store, now held by a holding company (SHLD), has terribly deteriorated in terms of customer service, product price/value and "corporate" policies toward valuing its customers. Today's Sears' shopping experience is nothing like it was in the past...forget quality, forget customers and employees being valued, forget stores being managed by on-site store management. Everything is now being run digitally by the parent holding company, which is simply using the Sears Brand as it dehumanizes and discards former business practices and policies upon which Sears was founded, respected, grew and prospered for 150+ years in the USA. Based on my two recent customer experiences in the tools department at this Maplewood Mall (MN) store over the past two months -- after a long period of absence doing business with their competition -- this Sears customer of 50+ years will never return. It is just a matter of time before the Maplewood Mall store in MN will be shut down by "corporate" -- like so many other Sears stores throughout the USA.. A graph of the SHLD Wall Street stock prices and press releases from 2007 to 2016 show just what has happened to "Sears" and, unfortunately, the entire USA -- thanks to greedy and corrupt politicians at every level touting free one-way trade agreements, globalization, and endless wars paid using Uncle Sam's American Express card. Totally dig this mall - only thing that is keeping this from a higher rating is the food court - horrible selection. As a parent of 3 kids under 8, this mall fulfills all of our needs and more. It is clean, never overly busy (love this) and has a wide variety of stores! The double carousel absolutely rules. Make sure to get the punch card so your tenth ride is free! read more

It's sort of like a rundown Southdale. The outside cement just feels a little bit past it's prime. The leather chair you sit in to rest are worn. Yes it has fancy stores like Teavana but it also has clothing stores "everything is $10 or less." We went to Journez, Journez for kids, Spencer's, Macys, Forever 21,and Auntie Anne's. No, it's not Rosedale. But it has Macy's, JC Penney, and Kohl's. Sears has a good mattress and appliance selection, but the rest of the store sucks. I went in there to see their selection of window treatments. Very few, and what they had was a mess. JC Penney, by comparison, has a huge selection and someone dedicated to that department to help you. The mall was remodeled a few years ago, shedding it's "Miami Vice" look for a design that is more contemporary, yet down to earth. The remodel uncovered the celestory lights that had previously been painted over, and the entire mall is now awash in natural light, with some neat fixtures with a cool effect in the center court. I do miss the fountains. But the carousel is good for a spin. The food court is huge, with a giant selection. The area near Kohl's on the lower level is slated to become a giant indoor playground. read more

Not quite the Mall of America, but I like Maplewoord Mall if braving the crowds and parking is just not on the table that day. I'll drive up to Maplewood and visit their H&M and Forever 21. Selection is greater and people are more scarce. It's the perfect formula for getting a good deal on a great find. Downside is that the past few months 694 is under extreme construction. Check the maps, because I've gone on days when the exit for the mall is closed. read more

Maplewood Mall has been quite dead lately. I stopped in today, and it was as quiet as a church. It used to be worth the trip, but no one seems to care about going here anymore. I've also come across several posts on Facebook that girls were followed while at the Mall, therefore, I assume it can be a contributing factor to it being so dead. Today, I realized that a shit ton of stores is no longer in service. It's sad to see it not so lively, but I believe something needs to change in order to attract more people. read more

Being from CA I have certain expectations for my malls. The layout of this place is terrible. We came here to go to JC Penny to use a coupon my friend's parents had given to him. We both had to pee like there was no tomorrow. We left JC Penny in search of a bathroom. 15 minutes later we found one. There was one bathroom in the entire mall. Really? 1. Come on.
