I'm not a Nordstrom person. Canada is about to lose all its Nordstrom stores, which makes me sad to see employees lose their jobs. If you are a Nordstrom fan in Canada, they are still alive and kicking stateside to satisfy your shopping needs. I recently visited this Nordstrom at Ridgedale Mall. It wasn't that I was dying to shop there. It was the closest mall entrance to get to Urban Outfitters, which was the store that I wanted. I got a prime parking spot in front of this store. There was a woman with a couple of folks chatting in front of her car that was next to mine. I carefully backed into this spot without mowing them over and headed inside this store. I like how Nordstrom is designed. I've only been to now three Nordstrom locations in my life (San Francisco, Ottawa, and Minnetonka). I like how it has places to sit no matter where you are. I appreciate that detail, especially if you have been on your feet shopping for hours and you need to take a load off them. I needed the escalator to hit the second floor. Cutting through this store was enjoyable. I casually looked at the footwear. I am such a casual sneaker fan that I took some time admiring the Converse and Veja sneakers. I also briefly looked at the women's clothing section. Spring colours featuring pinks and yellow were everywhere. They were cheerful and perked me up. I spent a good chunk of time at Urban Outfitters and got what I needed. I then re-entered Nordstrom on the second floor, went downstairs, and browsed the handbags before leaving. This store had Coach handbags. It was my first time touching one. It's not really my style and the price of the one that I had touched was insane. What kind of ruined my experience was the salesperson in the handbag section. We spoke. She looked at the two handbags that I had. One was my usual Kipling purse. The other was a puffy purple purse (I dare you to say that fast) that I had just purchased at Urban Outfitters. Do you think that I needed a third purse? I'd say no, but she thought otherwise. She was now finding small to medium purses for me. I didn't ask for that. Our chat was pleasant, but I was browsing, and didn't need or want any help. I politely declined her help, wished her a nice evening, and left. Maybe I should come back to the handbag section with a single purse next time. I might not forge such a strong bond with staff members in the handbag section. It's a nice store. Immediately when I walked into this Nordstrom, on the left, on the first floor, are elevators and washrooms. I like how this store is designed to make things easy for customers and staffers alike. If they sold Pistachios and Peanuts, it'd be Nutstrom. I think the main problem with Nordstrom is that they're a little bit stuck in the past - unlike JCPenney. They're also a little bit expensive. This is a very quiet location of Nordstrom, which makes me worry about it because there's hardly anyone in here - at least the two or three times that I came here the whole mall is quiet and this Nordstrom was one of the quietest parts of the mall. Not a lot of sales help and not a lot of customers. You could probably see tumbleweeds blowing through here. Bae says: Nordstrom is old school bougie shopping. They have lots of luxury brand items. They also have more affordable brands. They have tons of shoes and clothes and home decor. They have lots of bling jewelry too. The store is a new concept store. I'm not sure what that exactly means, except it's immaculate, well lit, inviting, and the merchandise is laid out well. The customer service was on point, even on the first day! The make up counters are awesome! We spent a lot of time and money here! The brands brought in national make up artists... They were awesome! There are 5 shoe departments! Yep it's Nordstrom! There is a coffee shop and wine bar. After a long day shopping we tried the wine bar. It was great! We all know about the high-level of service you receive at Nordstrom. Now, kick it up because it was opening weekend. Like everyone else in this area, we came in to see the new store. We walked into the Men's Department around 11:30 AM, and immediately were greeted by Adam K. As we browsed, he was helping others and folding clothes, but always within distance to help us out. We were looking at socks and then looked at men's sweaters and capes. We joked about the cape, and Adam said while it looked good, it wouldn't look good on him. I told him I disagreed, because he's tall and can pull off that look. I joked he should model in the store and sales would go through the roof. We thanked Adam and continued shopping at Nordstrom and the rest of the mall. He told us to check out the restaurant upstairs. At this point, we wandered over to men's suits. RJ introduced himself, complete with a handshake and carried on a nice conversation. My eye was caught by some fun animal print underwear, and RJ helped me with that. There were some that weren't on the rack, so he went in the back to look for them. When he returned to say they were out, he asked his manager for help, who showed him how to ring a special order (I wanted to buy three, but only one was available in the store). While she was looking to see if any were available elsewhere, RJ measured me and had me try on a very nice suit. I told him I need new suits, and this one fit like a beauty. We finished my other transaction, and while I didn't walk away with a suit this time, I'm very happy with my purchase. More importantly, I'm very happy with the high level of service I received from RJ today. It went above and beyond what I expect from Nordstrom. On our way back to the car, we had to walk through Nordstrom again, and decided to look at accessories again. As we were walking back to that part of the store, we were greeted by other associates, and Adam looked up. Just as if seeing old friends, he welcomed us back, stopped folding a shirt, and walked us back to that fixture with the sweater and the cape. As Adam efficiently rung us up, he asked if we went to the restaurant. We told we would next time. Then he asked if there was anything else he could do to help us. I asked if they carried soap at this location, because I was looking for a product I had purchased before from Nordstrom. Of course I couldn't think of the name (it was 'Fresh'), but Adam walked us over to that area. As we walked, he mentioned being from Chicago. I thought they had flown him out for the opening, and said I'm in Chicago all the time for business. But he said he lives in MN now, which is great for this store, because of Adam's great customer service. I was out shopping yesterday elsewhere, and consistently received horrible customer service. Returns are easy and all though they don't carry all the items I would look for, they do carry a fair assortment. I like that you can pick up and return Nordstrom Rack items as well. If given a choice between and online order somewhere else and Nordstrom, I always pick Nordstrom because they make it so easy. read more

Let's talk about this one. If I'm going to shop, I want to be dropped in the center of a food co-op. When it comes to shopping for clothing, I go through very rare phases, and it's not my favorite. Regardless, the press and hype surrounding the new Nordstrom's was intriguing. Since I was in the area for opening day, I decided to go check it out in the evening. I was on a mission to find the perfect pair of black dress pants and knew that one of the stores in Ridgedale was going to cough it up. Regardless of my feelings on clothes-shopping, my requirements for enjoying a store does not require that much, so why the 3-stars? Selection was, at its best, underwhelming AND shopping alongside commissioned employees puts a damper on the entire experience. This store is BEAUTIFUL, tasteful, and stunning. This look isn't reflecting just their opening day, but for many years to come. Their sales associates are readily available to help, HOWEVER, I call into question the authenticity since their entire store is based on commission. When I say I'm only looking for a black pair of dress pants, I'm not looking for a pile of other non-related items to be sent into the dressing room with me. But mostly, the 3-stars comes from a wide selection of unimpressive clothes with prices to match. Yes, there were a couple of items that I considered, but because I didn't love them (my new standard in clothes shopping), I moved on. I DO appreciate that 99% of the selection was tasteful and classy (instead of trampy), but the bulk majority were quite bland and muted. Sadly, after trying on multiple pairs of black pants, I didn't find my match at this location. The assistant to the manager, Donn was very kind to tell me that the custom suit that I ordered 5 weeks ago had no delivery timeframe (although promised 3-4 weeks) when ordered well in advance of my event. His solution was to offer me a suit "off the rack" with no consideration or alternatives otherwise. Had I not walked in to inquire the status of said custom order, Donn would have been able to not address their lack of customer service. He offered no solutions and didn't even apologize. Rather, passed the buck to his store manager who wasn't going to be in until next week. Why would anyone go back to any this store organization that prizes itself on customer service? Nordstrom's finally opened it's doors on the west side of town. I have to say I don't frequent the MOA anchor store that often but couldn't resist checking this store out opening day. Wow! I was "impressed". This 140,000 square foot department store has everything you could ask for plus more. Yes, 5 shoe departments and the largest beauty bar area you could ever imagine. Not only was he incredibly attentive; and patient he was intuitive. He actually brought out shoes he thought I may like without me asking to see them. They accidentally merged the eBar with the store. The store is average: good service as you would expect but the selection is awful and they *intended that* under misguided idea that people wanted less fancy options but a deeper selection in the less flashy/fancy brands as compared to the Mall of America location or the much better locations in major commercial hubs. Reliable coffee bar with good baked goods and friendly, courteous staff. There isn't a lot of seating in the eBar area itself, but they've put a lot of tables just in front of the mall entrance a few short steps away. My preference is the Mexican mocha or Mexican hot chocolate, but all options are solid and--like all Nordstrom locations--makes the most reliable coffee option in the mall it's located in. [Update (4/2017): this store has just become so dreary with the lackluster selection that the score seems too high for what might as well be an overpriced Macy's; 3 stars is about as high as it deserves] read more

This is an awful store to shop in, especially in terms of how I was treated today. I went to the store specifically to purchase skin care products, as I do every month. Unfortunately, they were out of the specific product that I was looking to purchase. I had grabbed several "samples" (displayed in the open) that they had of this product line, as I do at every visit. The very nice clerk (Caucasian) who helped me stated that it was okay for me to do so and said, "Just look at how much samples we have, go right ahead." I proceeded and grabbed some more of the other "samples" that I have not used before. Approximately three minutes later, I saw another clerk, who was African-American come up to this Caucasian clerk and stated in a loud and heavy demeanor "What does he have in his hand?" The Caucasian clerk than stated, "I told him he can have them." The African-American clerk immediately came up to me without any form of introduction and rudely said, " That is way too many samples, you need to put it back." Then, she started to say, "You don't need all these samples, that is ridiculous, you may take three." I then exited the store, after putting the "samples" back. I was embarrassed not only for her but for this company as well. Upon exiting the store, I saw her rolling her eyes in disgust with me taking the "samples." First, I want to mention that I shop at this store on a regular basis and have always gotten "samples" without anyone saying anything. Secondly, these are "samples," and if they are not meant to be for the guest to take, then they should be put elsewhere. Third, I really don't need a lecture from a clerk indicating that I cannot take "samples." They are exactly just that, "samples." Lastly, she didn't need to talk to me as though I was a child. That was absolutely inappropriate, unprofessional, and uncalled for. In summary, I use to work in retail as well and we did have "samples" to give and that was what they were meant for, to give customers to try because once again, they are "samples!" Finally, Nordstrom, you have lost my business because of how your employee made me feel, as a result of "samples." It was not even about the "samples", but more with the interaction between an employee and a guest. Is this the experience that you want your guests to have? SHAME on your employee for making a loyal customer feel this way! UPDATE: Response to Tasha: UPDATE: I appreciate your response, Tasha, but apology is NOT ACCEPTED at this time. Your employee (African-American female) needs additional training on customer service and learn that "samples" are just that, "samples" and not tell a customer rudely to place them back. I am a loyal Nordstrom shopper, spend thousands there per year, and have been for years. I recently got a rewards email to me that said "Nate, pick a day and get 3x rewards points, all you have to do is input your number at checkout". I am not a Nordstrom card holder only the rewards program. So I drive 20 min to Nordstrom Ridgedale and get some things I need, jeans, pullover, belt which came out to $400. My wife was also with and was going to meet me to pick out a dress but never got to that. So we were going o spend about 700 that night which would have got us 2100 points for the 3x reward. I get to checkout and show the gal the email that has been helping me for the last 45 mins. She says, hmmmm, I think that is only for card holder. I tell her it must be for reward members as I got he email and don't have a Nordstrom credit card. She is puzzled. She calls 3 people at corporate or somewhere and 5 mins later she comes back with..."yeah I think you got that email and should not have so we can't do 3xrewards" Really I said? you won't honor when it is clear in an email to me? No sorry we can't. Never called a manager or gave it 2 thoughts. So I tell her "that surprises me at Nordstrom, i am going to pass on buying anything". She looks surprised and says, ok sorry. First terrible experience I have had and didn't spend a dollar there tonight. Shocked me that she did nothing and if she had given points as they should and promised maybe cost them $20. Instead I didn't spend 700 and will order all the same things online from another retailer. No way do i spend another dollar there if that is how they go about it and she knew I spent a lot there. There is a reason that people avoid stores and retail is dying, if I want bad service or no service I can stay home and shop online! The only reason to go into the store is for service. This Nordstroms is not nearly as good at the one out at MOA. They have a limited selection and it is hard to find what is on the mannequins in the store. They do however have a fantastic restaurant called Ruscello. There is a fantastic turkey sandwich there and I love there waffle frie inspired chips. read more

After months of construction, the Ridgedale location has finally opened! To celebrate this great day, Nordstrom's hosted a Beauty Bash, with vendor cosmetologists giving free make overs, fragrance samples, and coffee! The energy was great and the swag was out of this world! When the doors finally opened, close to 10am, the crowd was roaring, excited and ready to shop! I found my way to the athletic wear because I've heard about the amazing Zella leggings and was greeted by the sweetest employee. She spent about 15 minutes showing me her favorite items in that department and how they can pair together nicely. This included the exclusive Australian brand that only the Minnetonka store carries. I was in 7th heaven feeling like I had my own personal stylist and was very excited to go try on the new digs. Since this is Nordstroms, the prices are not so friendly on the average wallet, but my new found friend told me that what they lack in clearance racks they make up for in customer service, quality items, price matching, and card holder rewards. Every time I go to Nordstrom's at Ridgedale I end up disappointed but have ended up giving them my business anyways. NO MORE. Today I made a special trip to pick up some clothes and shoes and got the same lack of service. I don't mean poor service I mean no service. I stood in the men's shoe department in disbelief that I couldn't get any help. Two guys just stood there talking to each other and never said a word to me. As I was leaving the department an associate from another department could see I was shaking my head and asked if he could help. By that point I was leaving so too little too late. I am was also a frequent shopper at Nordstrom's at the MOA but perhaps Nordstrom's in general doesn't deserve my money so went to Macy's and got 5 Star service all around. I went in once to buy a shirt and this girl comes up to me trying to sell me a grey goose jacket. And I'm all like hell no I don't want a $10,000 jacket. So she goes do you want boots and I say sure. So the boots section is upstairs and I head towards the escalator like a normal human being when she starts walking towards the elevator!! The audacity! Long story short, we take the elevator. Super awkward. She then proceeds to sell me boots. Halfway through our conversation I find out I'm her second customer ever, so obviously she hasn't been certified to sell shoes yet. This made me very skeptical and worried about the information I was being given about the pair of camo LL bean boots I was looking at, but I go through with it because I feel bad since I kept up messing up her last name. I wish the cosmetics department was as professional as the MOA and Chicagoland. Each time I go, I see clusters of associates standing and talking amongst the brands, paying no attention to customers. Today I walked right up to Lancôme counter, held the two testers of product I'd like to buy, found a gal who appeared to work there and announced, "I'd like these please." She looked at me, wide-eyed, and pointed to the display where I could "help myself". I murmured to myself, if I wanted self service, I'd go to Target. I tried to find the product myself, but it wasn't there. She was very flustered, didn't know what to do, how to help me, so I walked away for a bit. When I returned, she was complaining loudly about me, in front of other customers, the woman who could not figure out how to help herself, and there I was. So then, she tried again to find where the product was located, and did, finally ring me up. At the MOA, buying 2 Lancôme Juicy Tubes, transaction would take 3 minutes tops. At Ridgedale Nordstrom, count on a half an hour. That is, if you can pull the associates away from the dynamic conversations they are having, with each other. read more

Came in to find a good pair of work shoes. I work in at a business where the shoes have to be either heels or dress shoes. I had flat feet so came in without much hope to find anything fashionable and functional. But the employee Steve helped me find 3 pairs of comfortable shoes! stiletto shoes, chunky heel shoes, and flats. He made sure they fit correct and could accommodate my foot issues and would be comfortable. I don't think I could of found all of these shoes without his help. Disappointing at best... Nordstrom's spent a ton of money to build a beautiful store - gleaming white floors, wood paneled ceilings and open floor construction. Then they fill it will junk. So many mediocre store-label brands you've never heard of - NONE of the high end brands - anywhere in the store. Famous for their shoe department... yet zero quality Italian brads - no Prada, Ferragamo, Gucci, etc. - Zip. Shirts, sweaters, suits, pants all follow the same pattern - mediocre brands and lots of plaid. They are taking no risk on inventory and as a result I think a lot of shoppers will visit once and not return. Go to the Mall of America location location instead. And since we're already visiting Ridgedale - let's talk about the badly needed renovation. It's sort of half-baked and I'm hoping half completed. Marble tiles go half way up the large pillars in the center atrium and then switch to cheap silver paint as if they ran out of money or went over budget. The floor is covered with what I hope is temporary industrial carpeting. There is new grey on grey office furniture outside the department stores with barely any color variation or live plants. ...lipstick on a pig? This is Macy's big chance - dump their current merchandise and try to bring in high end product - they will grab Nordstrom's clients that expect more. read more

I went to Nordstrom in Minnetonka, Minnesota. I was going in to return a prom dress I had bought a little while before. I walked up to the sales woman and I told her I didn't know how I felt about this dress for prom. She told me to maybe try it on again so she could give me feedback. I go in the dressing room to try it on and walk out and she tells me "That looks absolutely terrible on you. It doesn't look good with your body shape at all. Let's return that right away for you." Other people in the dressing rooms were looking at her like I could not believe she said that. I ended up returning the item. I think it was the most rude, disrespectful, uncalled for things anyone has EVER said to me. Keep in mind, I am 17 years old!!! I went home in tears crying and feeling absolutely terrible about myself. I have never felt more disrespected in my life. I never want this to happen to any other girl who walks in there looking for a prom dress and she tells them that it looks absolutely terrible on them. It lowered my self esteem and I will never shop at Nordstrom again because of this incident. I am still in shock that someone would say that to me. I ended up talking to the manager and she told me she was sorry that this happened and said that you can't put a price on bad customer service, however I disagree. Beautiful store but no selection in women's shoes and accessories... It would have been nice to actually try on Louboutin heels and purchase them in Mn instead of flying down to Chicago or Vegas. I was looking forward to seeing what labels were housed@ this location because the service has seriously slipped@ MOA's Nordstrom. Unfortunately, it looks as if this location is catering to the 40+ age range... I'm not talking about having them offer sleazy tight and short women's apparel. They just have a ton of wrap sweaters and leggings displayed throughout. Not my style... I suppose that's the clientele they are aiming for based on demographics. Not to mention the salon shoes Never have 35's in stock... I am speaking of Nordstrom Moa. I have ordered every pair of My Jimmy's, Valentino, Chanel, McQueen and Zanotti's blindly. Being a true size 35, depending on the shoe and heel, I have gone from a 34.5 up to a size 6.5... It would be great to finally have a chance to put a shoe on My foot before hassling with ordering them, exchanging for sizing issues and hoping My size is still available upon the delay of shipping and exchange which I have missed out on a few beautiful pairs due to this sizing issue. So there are no salon shoes offered at this location. Just one of many depts lacking@ Ridgedale. If Nordstrom felt it was necessary to open a second location, they should have integrated new labels or an expansion in sizing and selection from their main stores. One trip was enough for Me to not return. I recommend calling the department ahead of making a trip out there just to be sure they carry the item/ line you want. read more

I went into this store very excited about picking out some new clothes for my upcoming destination wedding. I was pretty surprised, at such a high end store with a good amount of employees present, that it took me probably 15 mins of looking around and browsing to even be greeted by an employee. I don't know if they were writing me off as just a browser or trying things on because of what I was wearing, but I expected to at least be greeted by someone more quickly. Once I was acknowledged, the sales representative was attentive and helpful. I would have spent longer and spent more money if I hadn't been ignored for so long. Also was disappointed with the selection at the store. I agree with some other posts that the MOA location has much more of a selection. read more
