Stopped by this Costco in Palm Desert to fill up on gas, and go inside (if not too crowded). Found it to be so less crowded than our neighborhood SoCal ones. Gas has reached over $6 a gallon now, so actively looked for a Costco while traveling from Palm Desert to Joshua Tree. The entrance to the gas station is not meant for high volume, with the eight lanes (4 islands, 2 pumps each so no need for parallel parking in a middle spot) having space for 3 individual cars behind. Once those fill up, there is no space except to go out to the street. Price was significantly less than the surrounding stations, and the paying/pumping was exactly the same as every other Costco (one tap if you have the Citi Costco card). We did go inside the Costco, with the mandatory membership card tap to enter. Once we got our few items, lines weren't too bad with additional checkers using hand held scanners to individually scan each item in the cart, eliminating need to have to put any items on the conveyor. It does make it faster...it's not Amazon Fresh that needs the RFID 'scan the whole cart at once' technology, but Costco. The food court is inside and wasn't too crowded, and would have stopped if we didn't have other plans. The $1.50 hot dog/drink special always tempts me. read more

I have loved Costco since its inception and they have been my go-to for groceries and sometimes a quick snack at their food court in every city I've ever lived and wherever I've vacationed throughout the US. It does seem to have a few downsides, however. For example, I bought a chiming clock at the Palm Springs location that I really loved. It wound up breaking down. Thankfully I saved the packaging and thankfully Costco has a really good return policy. Since I wanted a replacement I made the choice to forego the process because I was expected to pay the difference; as the same item became substantially more expensive. I didn't even have the clock for a year. Eventually, months later the same clock went back down in price so I snatched one up. But I think I should have been allowed a replacement without having to pay more. Especially for my trouble of having to return the item due to defectiveness. One thing I don't like at all is how Costco will move items around the store. It can be a substantial difference. This results in me having to hunt for items instead of just knowing where things are, grabbing them, paying for it and then off I go. When they move items around I'm forced to try and flag down a Costco employee to help me locate what I'm looking for. This can require me to go all the way to the front of the store, since employees on the actual floor are quite scarce. This results in unnecessary back and forth traffic in what most would consider a very busy and bustling store. I just want to get in and get out. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Some of the friendly chats I've had with other Costco customers revolved around us wondering/looking for where the same item used to be located. One other thing I am not all that happy about is how they can be inconsistent with their inventory. Some items just disappear for awhile and it can be weeks or months before they become available again. And since I only shop at Costco every five to seven weeks it can be a bit disappointing to schlep it there and back and not walk out with what I had intended to purchase in the first place. read more

Nov, 2025. Day before Thanksgiving, Palm Desert, CA. We're traveling, and had been invited for a big Thanksgiving dinner at a relative's where we anticipate about 15 people. If at home, I would've made some pies to take to the get-together. Here, it would've been just too difficult from our condo room. So, we headed to the closest Costco, anticipating that they'd have pies. And, boy did they! Tables and tables of pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies, with fresh ones being carried out regularly to replace those flying from the displays. We picked up both an apple pie ($12.99) and a pumpkin one ($5.99). In both cases, they're huge, with the apple one weighing in at 4 lb. 12 oz (76 oz) and the pumpkin at 3 lb, 10 oz (58 oz). We haven't tasted them yet, but we know from past experience that Costco pies are delicious and are a very good value given their huge size. Virtually every customer checking out had pie(s) in their carts! We had one additional, interesting experience at this Costco. Upon entering the store, and later in the aisles, we saw a guy with an official Costco sign trying to find that one special customer who wanted to buy a single bottle, only one available, of a Scottish alcohol (scotch, perhaps?) for $74,995. This is not a typo, almost seventy-five thousand dollars, for one bottle of alcohol! As we passed the man in an aisle, he called out to us that the alcohol would go perfectly with our apple pie! LOL. We spoke to him, and he confirmed that the bottle was on-site, under lock and key, and ready for immediate purchase. Alas, we had to pass. Very disappointed this time. Haven't been here in a minute and when I came back, like most Costco's things understandably get moved around. Between my friend and I asking several different employees for Chia seeds, the only direction we received was with their fingers and a short response, "back that way". I finally saw a manager (CHAD- who was in a private conversation with a man and a woman who appeared by their conversation to be his personal friends) and asked him, he gave the exact same response, until we said that's what all the employees said that we talked to. He then guessed and said "I know it is on isle 312. If not it's next row or two back. WRONG!!!!! We finally found it ourselves on isle 310. Does this store expect their employees especially their managers to know where items are? And are personal friends considered better customers than real customers? read more

Came in Monday at about 11 AM. Had to wait about 30 minutes to be seen at the optical department. Which is understandable. I appreciate they have an orderly check-in process. Chris is the one who helped me. My problem was needing my sunglasses adjusted so that they wouldn't fall off my face when I put my head down. He took a lot of time and kept double checking and tweaking them until they frankly are now better than they were when I first bought them. I really appreciate his time and effort. read more

If I have a choice between the La Quinta location, and this one, I will most likely choose this one. While considerably more busy during the day, just wait until the last few hours or after dark and the warehouse clears out. It's no secret that this area has a lot of the retired community who prefer to only shop during daytime so I take full advantage of this. Compared to the La Quinta store this one carries more healthy options as well as Asian flavors. Overall, if you've been to one Costco, you've been to most of them the only thing that changes our regional items and the people shopping at them. I frequent this one often enough, whether for gas , a cheap hot dog, or bathroom essentials. read more

What would have started as a 2 star review became 5 star thanks to Jen in the Optics Dept. The first gentleman to help me seemed burdened by the whole process. I showed him my insurance card and he said, "Yeah we don't take that". He then reluctantly processed my order. My husband was next to go and he got Jen. What a blessing! She did not just look at the card- she went the extra mile to look him up on the computer. Lo and behold, they DO take out insurance. She called me over and offered to re-process my order so I could get a refund. She then noticed the first gentleman placed my order with the WRONG GLASSES!! She saved me from a total disaster! I can't say enough (including over $300 in refunds and savings) about Jen. Thank you for what you do. The rest of your department could learn from your work ethic. read more

Clean store, mostly friendly and helpful employees. The main irritation I have is if you choose not to get an executive Costco card you cannot enter until 10am, fine no problem but they allow so many people to cut into the line and push ahead of those that have been waiting patiently to enter. From my understanding a supervisor is standing at the card reader with another employee as you enter, you can plainly see these people are cutting the line (and yes it's not that big of a deal as you do get in but the fact that a supervisor is there and you comment about people cutting in line and they ignore you. In today's economy I'd think they would want everyone to be respected so they renew and return. The supervisors here don't seem to share that same goal. Got there about 10 minutes before 10 with my granddaughter. I'm 71 years old with a recently replaced knee of course they wouldn't let me in a few minutes early. So, I went back out to the cart area to wait until 10. I made sure I was out of the way. But the same person who said I couldn't go in a few minutes early, came riding by on a mobile cart and told me I couldn't stand there as I was in the way! Rude female employee!! Gas station has a 20 minute wait until you get to the pump. Costco warehouse is a total joke. Lines are so long and if you go to the self check line the employees don't know where the starts or stops. Getting food at the food court is insane. I shop at several Costco from Seattle to California and when you order your food. You're given a number on your receipt and they call your number when your food is ready. This one does it completely different. You pay in one line to just have to go to a longer line to wait for your food and drinks. It's a total cluster getting anything from this location. I brought an old pair that I've had which were broken and the technician jennifer fixed them for me for free something that my regular ophthalmologist in New York couldn't do. *Costco Costs Less* {{{My 300th Review Dedicated to my Brother}}} I've been a member on & off for nearly 20 years and been frequenting this location more often the past 18 months. I actually enjoy shopping here -- especially in the summertime, when it's not as crowded and I can take my time walking & browsing around the entire store, looking at stuff I usually don't -- while trying to get in those extra steps, when it's too hot outside. I rely on certain items & Kirkland products at most Costco's, I can't seem to live without, that saves me & my household money. I generally earn back the annual membership fee with rewards for store & online purchases and gasoline too -- which still keeps me in the green with overall savings throughout the 12 month membership term. I have even purchased clothing items through the years (mostly athletic & sportswear) -- top brands at unbelievably low prices for excellent quality. Boxer Shorts and Bedding too. The same goes for electronics -- especially Sonicare Toothbrushes & replacement-heads. Old-school alkaline batteries too. They have a great return policy if you're not happy with your purchases -- most perishable foods excluded. I try to stop here on weekdays during off hours to avoid the large crowds & lines inside the store and the traffic jams in the parking lots & gas station. Unless it's summertime. I try to avoid the disgruntle shoppers who drive their wagon carts like Speed Racer. I usually use the self-checkout lines. But they don't accept cash. I try to avoid the Costco team members who display a little attitude. I try to engage with the Costco team members who are extremely helpful and pleasant. Though the "free samples" and team working so hard are not "Costco employed" they work for a contracted organization. But they're all very friendly and an asset to the "Costco Experience." This past year I even had an eye exam at their optical department for the first time, advised by my regular Optometrist/friend in LA, who I've known most my life. Reason for knocking off 1-star? Not enough healthier options for food & groceries. Not enough Costco team members to assist customers with questions. Store Management & Corporate Office move items around way too often inside the store, that gets so confusing and time-consuming, the Costco team doesn't know where to find the stuff. I think one of the "policies" at the optical department is shady and unethical. But all & all...this is a really good Costco. YMMV...but I'm a fan. read more

This a very large Costco, just off I-10 north of Palm Springs. We were here on a Saturday afternoon. This warehouse is well-stocked, and an enjoyable stop for some retail tourism. Ugh. I had given this place 4 stars, because of its staff. Then, I went to Costco last week.... In this political climate, I don't talk ugly about people - especially if I'm in a place where people are just doing their thing. So, as my order is being rung up and I'm getting ready to pay my bill, Jerry A, my cashier listed on the receipt, starts a chat with the man behind me. The man behind me was wearing a "Cancel so-and-so" hat. I'll leave out the person. Jerry A acknowledged the man behind me and then started a conversation about how "I agree 100%!" They then took a moment to have a conversation about how bad the person they both dislike is. This was so uncomfortable, felt a bit threatening, since I'm not on the same page. Most of the staff is very helpful, but I'm not sure I want to go out of my way, if the store is going to turn into a place to talk bad about people. Wrong venue, at least for me. read more

I shop here at least once a week-often more. The prices are generally pretty good although sometimes items are less expensive elsewhere. (A price comparison app is always a good idea.) I love the fact that I often discover interesting new products to try, but sometimes get frustrated when one of those items is longer carried the next time I look for it. Like pretty much all Costco locations, the gargantuan parking lot here often can be chaotic, but I've learned to avoid it by parking on the street instead. The aisles also can be like "bumper carts," so I was thrilled when they came up with a special perk for the executive-level membership that allows exclusive access to the "warehouse" between 9:00 and 10:00 each morning. Costco Optical, Technician Dana, exemplifies customer service and was a joy to deal with today. I needed to order specialty contacts for my wife and new glasses and sunglasses for myself. She physically retrieved my Rx from the opticians office and was just awesome at making me feel like her too priority despite numerous interruptions. She is knowledgeable, professional and really excellent at her job. Costco Palm Desert has always had good customer service but Dana is the type of employee that goes above and beyond for all her customers and yet appears more efficient than her peers. So please don't yell or be rude to the hourly employees at Costco. They are doing their jobs and doing it well. I ordered a shed online through Costco, took the day off for the delivery from the transportation company of the shed builder Costco goes through and I wasted an entire day waiting for nothing. I never received a call, text, or email for an update or schedule change. I notified Costco on a Friday and ended up calling Costco back on Monday to find out the call on Friday was never inputted that I wanted to cancel and get my money back because they didn't stick to their end of the contract. I always expect a few minor updates throughout the tax season but what is surprising this year is that an entire section pertaining to retirement earnings is still not available. I use the self check out for 2reasons. It is faster. I usually don't have more than 5 items. A couple weeks ago my sister and I went to the self check and a woman monitoring the line told me they had changed the "system" of checking out. She would scan each item and then I could just scan my card and pay at the register. However, we would not be allowed to check out there because we were using the same cart. I removed my three items and said we would be separate. The woman told me that carrying my own purchases would not be allowed and that we would have to go to a regular line. I told that I had my purchases in my arms and that it was allowed. I then proceeded to have another employee scan my purchases and made my way to the check out to scan my card. As soon as I headed for the register the woman started screaming, "Ma'am! Ma'am! By the time I realized she was screaming at me, there were several other employees surrounding me until the man who had scanned my purchases assured them that I had already been scanned. I don't appreciate being treated like a criminal when I go to a store. My next trip was the Costco on 111. Pre scanning was optional. No issues. I suggest 1) screening potential employees. 2) initiate a scan and go system like at Sam's Club where people can check out their purchases with their phones and then exit under the device that scans carts for items that weren't paid for. read more

I called to make an appointment for new tires.... Evidently, Answering the phones was not what this young man felt like doing... very unhappy... his tone.... His patience.... I just wanted to schedule an appointment.... He said " first things first" "I need the tire size and then you have to come in a pay for them before we schedule your appointment".... Okay, is there a reason I can't schedule an appointment for this....‍ He kept interrupting me so I'm not sure.... I was hoping to have a scheduled time so I wouldn't have to wait so long in line A few days later I showed up at this Costco....the man behind counter was very helpful.... I'm sure some of you but not all of you are aware you can upgrade your membership from $65 a year to $130 a year for a "Executive " membership. Costco used to let a basic membership in 15 minutes early. Now, they let the Executive members in early and hold the basic membership from entering until 10:00 am. In addition to the employee working the entrance scan machine, a supervisor stands there with the employee. Does the corporate greed ever stop? Costco admitted they really rely on memberships. This is a late post from a recent trip to Palm Springs where I stopped by the Costco Gas station to fill up my rental car on two ocassions during the week of November 17th. Gas was cheap at $3.80/gallon compared to where I live in the Bay Area but I was expecting that. This station is much smaller so be aware regarding the the number of islands to fillup and also there was already a line of mostly Senior citiizens waiting to fillup when they open up. Recommend arriving five minutes before they open if you are in a rush to get somewhere. read more

Got hung up on three times from pharmacy staff not knowing how to properly answer the phone. I am nauseous and was told my medication would be done in 30 mins when I called back again to check since I had received no texts the staff said it would be ready by tomorrow then notified me it would not be ready due to my Dr canceling to which my Dr told me if there are any issues have them call her since I wasn't sure if I was picking up from Walgreens due to horrible symptoms increasing and it's closer to home. The pharmacy showed complete lack of care or concern and after asking them to call my Dr per her instruction they said sure okay and never heard back from them just a horrible experience was hung up on each time. I can't eat anything or hold down fluids and might need to seek hospitalization without my medication... This pharmacy could care less please go somewhere else.... read more
