It was sad to see some reviews saying that they received a bad customer service. I had the opposite experience. Here's the scenario we made an appointment at 1:00pm and I completely got confused thinking my appointment was at 2pm. We walked in at 2pm and explained the situation to the ladies at the front desk. They quickly understood and still accepted my son. We had to wait a bit but they were able to fit us in. My son had his vision exam quickly and Dr. Curt Nguyen did a thorough eye exam on my son. I went and shop at the store while my son was getting his eye exam. Professional, friendly, and helpful staff and Dr. Nguyen was efficient and quick. I highly recommend seeing Donna for all your optical needs. I went in there thinking that I just wanted sunglasses but she said that I could turn a pair of glasses to transition lenses, that were progressives, and had blue light. I thought the transition lenses were kind of cool because it switches from glasses to sunglasses and then I don't have to worry about switching my glasses. They do take some getting use to. But the blue light feature has been an absolute game changer. My eyes are no longer tired after being in front of the computer the whole day. My other glasses made my eyes so incredibly tired. I had gotten those through my optometrist but never again. I'm just going to go back to Costco for all my optical eyewear needs. read more

I haven't purchased glasses there yet but twice I've gone there to have my glasses adjusted and all I got was resistance to help. The optician is not helpful and has a lot of excuses for not being able to help. Glad I don't buy glasses there. How have I not reviewed Costco Optical yet? I've been coming here for the past 15 years (ever since I first needed glasses) and have never been disappointed or had a bad experience here. The staff are consistently friendly and welcoming and they've worked well with my insurance. On top of that, they have sales all the time. I often get two pairs while I'm here just to take advantage of it (I usually opt for sunglasses for my second pair). Their selection makes it easy to find a pair that fits your face perfectly, and often times I have a hard time choosing only one lol. On top of that, their pricing is very competitive. I recommend making An appointment because they do get very busy sometimes. Especially on weekends. read more

I was wondering how this visit was going to go as "all I wanted to do today was get my glasses adjusted". It was unclear what they wanted customers to do as before we would take a number. Now you look around and have to realize it's the social distancing stickers on the floor but it wasn't obvious to all customers. Then their were customers wandering inside to look who were then shoo'd to get in line. I got "lucky" to ask someone before me what do you do and they showed me the stickers on the floor so I wait. Yes, now my turn- she says I have to keep waiting for someone else to help as she takes anyone doing a pickup . So I wait and 2 go by me. There's only 2 people to take care of customers including answering the phone. Then I did get lucky as a lady came back from lunch and she helped me. She was good and I got it done. But that sure was a chore just to get glasses adjusted. And the person who came with me had already take all our stuff, loaded the car and was waiting for me. Horrible customer service. Today was the final straw. Last two times I was there, I waited for 30 minutes. The two women could clearly see I had been waiting and decided to chit chat. The young man who seemed new and clearly overwhelmed was with a customer. After waiting another 10 mins., he finished with his customer and asked if I had been helped yet (while the other two women continued chit chatting and and putting glasses away). It was nuts. I told him that would be great if he could help me and he did a wonderful job. Today, I went with a pair of sunglasses I had purchased from Coach. I told them I needed to have prescription lenses put in them as my first pair they had done for me last summer were used as a chew toy by our new dog. The girl tells me they can't use frames purchased outside Costco. Huh? I'm holding a pair that you guys did for me last summer. She goes and asks another lady and comes back and says, Yeah, we don't do outside frames anymore. wow, really? So I drive to the Tracy Costco and the lady in their optical department helped in less than 10 minutes get my order processed. Livermore optical is in need of major customer service training and policy review. Will definitely be finding somewhere else for my optical needs. read more

Because I was in the area, I decided to shop at the Lodi location to pick up my contact lenses which are carried in stock. As I approached the department customer service rep Vanessa was at the register. I approached her for help as it looked like she wasn't helping anyone. I told her about my contact lenses and she asked which type. I asked if I she could look up them up by phone number which seemed to annoy her. thereafter she condescendingly felt the need to notify me that I was on the wrong side for customer service and asked me to walk to the other side. I laughed because I was caught off guard. Not only has no local optical shop ever mentioned a designated customer service area, but i have never experienced any condescension from any costco rep ever. Then a condescending "I wasn't joking" came out of her mouth. She found my lenses. THEN ASKED ME TO WALK OVER TO THE SIDE WHERE WE STARTED. After she condescendingly explained how my receipt worked as if it was complicated. Horrible customer service. read more

RAVE! COSTCO Optical department ... you rock ... cleaning my car and placed my sun glasses on the drivers seat ... you guessed it ... I got into the car and sat on my glasses (I'm a dainty 270lbs) ... went to COSTCO today expecting the worst ... but the pleasant woman in the Optical Dept took care of me right away and I was out the door in 15 minutes ... great service from a "big box store" ! Don't expect to get fast service here. I've been going here for years and it's always at LEAST a 30 minute wait. On top of that, they didn't even call me to let me know my contacts were ready for pick up and I waited about a month all while my contacts were just sitting there. Even though I called and no one answered. People that work here are just rude. It needs to be more organized. read more

Alright let's see, where to begin? Setting up an appointment after 6 years to finally get my eye exam for frames and contacts was simply easy, as I just phoned in and asked them for a price for exam and date for when I could go in. The receptionist handling the phone could talk a little louder as I could barely hear her unless I turned my phone's sound to max. Day of appointment was very smooth; came in, signed in, filled out information sheet, and doctor called me in. The process was very fast and efficient, he ask me some questions, took my old glasses to check the prescriptions as they were way out of date. He was very clear in the questions he asked and when he did my eye exam; I thought it was amusing every time he asked "is # clear-er or # clear-er", he emphasized the "er". The best part was when he was showing me how to put contacts in for the first time, gotta say he's got patience. My eye lid opening is relatively smaller with my asian genes, and he spent quite a bit trying to get the contacts on my eyes; I'd say roughly 15 minutes, some with me in front of mirror and majority of it on the exam chair. The optical department was as expected of most places you go to order things or pickup orders: line-up and wait to be next. They do require that you are at the part where you are ordering your glasses at the cashier to go check the frames they have offered; because if anyone just walked up and checked out the frames, it would be disorganized with people moving to and fro (especially with covid where protection is key, and they have to sanitize what was touched). The ordering process was swift, handed over my prescription chose my frame and it was done. I skipped the insurance part because prices were low enough for me to not care enough about the hassle of checking my insurance, having them call to verify (I just wanted them done and be on my way). Stella was a great help ordering my frames, I was on my way after 8 minutes. Follow-up 1 week later to pick-up my contact prescription after trying out the contacts provided by Dr. Curt to see how I adjusted to them. Called in before heading there, receptionist had it ready for me. I even asked the Doc some questions because I was new to contacts; he answered patiently even for some of the silly questions that I just had to asked even though I probably already knew the answer to. I ordered contacts via Costco Optical as well. Now my opinion of the overall experience. Efficient and to the point, which I like as I have had experience as both the customer service provider and the receiver. Others may find Dr. Curt's speedy exam to be as if (he doesn't care and wants you out) but from my experience it's just to the point and fast; I've had some even faster exams before when I was younger from other optometrists where it felt like I didn't even know how to respond. I think they do it like so because the examee tends to second guess "yes, it's clear or no, it's not"if they are allowed time to think, and if you can't think and only respond on instinct based on what you see; they can have a better averaged out statistic when doing the exam. There was no fuss whatsoever as I hate problems popping up and having to go back and such. My glasses were ready for pick-up 1 week after ordering which was great because I was desperately in need of them. Had some slight adjustments made on the frames as they were a bit loose and different from how they were displayed on the wall of frames. My contacts arrived 3 days after ordering, which was great cause I was expecting longer; but they were stock contacts they already had ready so no biggie there. Found out Costco accepts VSP Insurance. Wasn't a long wait, maybe only 10min to be helped. Alex is great. He checked how much coverage for me, my son and my husband. He helped me on picking out my reading frames, provided extra options and all costs covered and out of pocket deductible. Can't wait to pickup my new reading glasses: Sal Ferragamo's. I got my eye exam done at Costco Optical, and the whole experience was great! I didn't have an appointment, but they take walk ins (if there's availability). Thankfully, they were able to fit me in the schedule, and I just had to wait 20 mins. Dr Curt was super nice! He was very efficient, and solved all the questions I had. I've used Costco vision for many years and have been very happy with their product and services. On most recent visit, I ordered 2 pairs of glasses from a wonderful associate and was told 2 weeks max. One pair arrived and I picked them up. When it went beyond 2 weeks for the 2nd pair, I phoned the number directly from the website. I waited while it rangand rang, then I was transferred to the optometrist (?) before anyone spoke to me. She took my name, looked into my situation and said someone would call me back. I hung up and called again. After several minutes, an unfriendly person answered with, "We are very busy here." I quickly explained my situation and she saw my frames were backordered. Why not notify me so I don'thave to call? When I thanked her and pointed out that I'm not less important than shoppers, she hung up on me. We've lost Customer Service people and your ratings reflect it!! read more

I dropped in, over the weekend, and had the nose pads on my glasses replaced. They also tightened the screws on the arms, so they stay on my face better. And they cleaned them better than they have ever been cleaned before. When I had new lenses put in these glasses, however, they actually neglected to replace the nose pads, like they said they would, when I paid for them. And this actually happened previously too, so they fixed the problem but shouldn't have created the problem in the first place. But hey, I've replaced the lenses in these classes from Costco twice now and they're still like new. And the quality of the lenses today is considerably better than it used to be. read more

I have been extremely happy with this Costco Eye Center versus. I have a specific preference for glasses that are durable well made with as close to flawless as possible. GA and EA are my go tos. Came up and the staff member was extremely polite. Normally they carry multiple types but the selections were very limited. No sunglasses either. I found one and we found out that the floor model was the only one available, but Costco would sell it to me. It's difficult to find glasses but this was the one . She did it very fast and precise. Added the add ones I have had in the past. I was out of there in under 5 minutes. I am very happy with the interaction with the optical department. And yes cleanliness and social distancing was present. read more

Extremely slow and horrible service!!! While placing two glasses order, the guy took around 20-30 mins to get the order in. I finally went to pick up these glasses today, and both pairs are MESSED UP. PAIR 1: The woman broke them while she was adjusting the arm. She spent 20 minutes trying to fix them by attaching one of the arms from a used pair of glasses there!! Luckily, they decided to just send them back and get a new pair because the frame was just irreparable. (Hopefully that's what they actually do.) PAIR 2: Something was off about these glasses when I put them on so I decided to compare the receipt and my prescription. Turns out, the guy entered my prescription INCORRECTLY. Plus the lens are a lot thicker. Such a huge waste of time and money!! Hopefully I can get a full refund for these. My family has tried to give our optometry business to local independently owned optometrists in Livermore. We have been to three such businesses over the years. The prices at those businesses was substantially higher than Costco, yet we had hoped the customer care would make those extra fees worth our while. Bzzzzz. Wrong. Quality customer care did not go hand-in-hand with the spendy fees. During that third try with a Livermore optometry office, I wasn't thrilled with a specific fee and called Costco inquiring about their fee for the same service. Wow- Costco's fee was over 50% less. I also called Costco two other times inquiring about glasses and contacts. Both times, the customer service women were friendly and nice. Another time I stopped by the optical center at Costco and spoke to another representative. She answered my questions and gave me hard copy information to take home. I browsed the glasses frames and was pretty darn impressed with not only the selection, but also the low costs...amazing. Yes, we tried with local optical places, yet after being insulted, given substandard products and being overcharged at those three optometrist's offices, it is Costco Optical for us from now on! Just an example of some of the weird stuff we've encountered at one of those three smaller optical places: During my daughter's initial exam appointment, the optometrist walked into the room, looked at my daughter and he told her she could get by in life on her looks alone. Ohhh boy. Not good. Not good at all. Repeat... Costco Optical for us from now on! Score! Yippee-Skippee! read more

How can you go wrong here. The prices blow away any optometrists office. They are so cheap that even with the deductibles and reimbursements by VSP , you are left with a fat wad to go buy anything your heart desires. The best thing this dept offers is a 1yr warranty for scratches on lenses. If anytime within a yr you can ask for new lenses. FREE! Rock on! read more

I've had nothing but good experiences at this Costco Optical. The lenses for glasses are high quality, the turnaround time is good, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I go to the one in Livermore because it's close to my workplace. Within the last several months, I got lenses for my sunglasses (polarized) and eyeglasses. They were able to work with frames I already had - the one in Mountain View doesn't. It was a piece of cake. I dropped off my frames and prescription and waited a little over a week to receive them. Costco lenses are as good as or better than ones you'd find at your local optometry place. I save a few hundred bucks by going to Costco - it's a no-brainer. Sometimes there are long lines. I go here during lunchtime and sometimes I've had to wait a long time. Other times there were only a few people. It's hit or miss but it's worth waiting for. read more

We ended up getting it right in the end and I love my glasses now! I walked up to the optical department at the Livermore Costco today, Thurs. July 30th and it was not busy. Two clerks were assisting customers. I had a quick question and was rudely told "go stand on the circle". All I wanted to do was ask a simple question and I was snapped at by the young lady who was there. My question would have taken maybe 10 seconds to answer but she was just plain rude. I hope the manager takes note of how rude their employees are to customers. Great personnel, Tracy in particular. She makes you feel comfortable, brought more pairs that I must have overlooked, a good selection to choose from. Which is funny, walking in there I thought, I see absolutely nothing interesting. But upon closer inspection I found three pairs I thought were well priced (all under $100, more like in the $50 range). Then Tracy brings or finds about 6-7 more pairs that were winners! Because of a special Costco is running ($25 off 2nd frame). We ended up with 2 great pairs for around $160 ( that included VSP portion as well). I even thought, I don't want to go to Costco, it'll be loud, crowded. Nope, they have acoustical tiles on the low ceiling in optical so there's not slot if noise and they kept the small line moving for the Sunday between Christmas and New Years! I mean I was just about to pay upwards if $500 for (1) pair of glasses at Lens Crafters man I'm so glad I looked at Costco and that they take VSP and that Tracy was our sales person. Horrible customer service! Don't suggest anyone to come here! Came here for new glasses with a new prescription. Got a number and waited for one hour then a lady called Jerika helped me for one minute! I told her I need new lenses and wanted to uses my old frame. She said their lab wouldn't take my old frame which I understood. She asked me to find new frames then turned around to help other customers without helping me again. It took me only five minutes to decide which frame I liked. She wouldn't wait for five minutes! Maybe she wants help others, not me. When I was done with finding the frame I wanted, I found this lady was helping others. So I waited another 10 minutes and finally she saw me and said she was in the middle of helping others, she would find someone else to help. Then she asked another guy who was also helping others to help. This guy said he could help but he needed to take his break. I waited another 10 minutes when he was done with his other customer but then he went to take his break. I don't blame him at all as he was not the one who initially helped me. Can't believe that I waited an hour for their service but the lady wouldn't wait for five minutes to continue her service to her customer! I noticed when she talked to me, she had no smiles on her face. When she was talking to her other customers, she was nice and smiling. Interesting! I didn't stay to get any more "help" from them. Not coming back!! I would rate this place for zero star! read more
