From keeping their diagnostic technology up to date to giving you your best options and honest feedback on your new lenses, they are *the* best! I, like others, have found that making the drive to Volponi Tri Valley Optometry is worth the visit. I always leave feeling the my eyes are in good care. They are also considerate of all socioeconomic patient needs with consideration for those without insurance. I have gone to them in varying seasons as a student or as an employed person. They have great taste(!) and love what they do. I have been using the same Marc Jacobs lenses which Lori(I believe) recommended to me back in 2018 but discontinued shortly after. They also fitted my old lenses into a loaner pair as they are getting my new prescription inserted into my old Marc Jacobs frames. I didn't feel pressured to buy new lenses, but when I decided to buy the loaner pair with my old prescription lenses as a backup, I got them at a great price. It's unfortunate to have to post this negative review for a local business that seems to have done so well for others but my husband's glasses have never been right. After trying 4 times, the optometrist he saw basically tried to tell my husband that it was his fault. I've waited to post a review to see if maybe my husband would get used to them but he has not. He even asked for the optometrist to duplicate his last Rx just to see if they would match but they don't even match. It's been 8 month's and my husband has to live with these very expensive paper weights for another 4 months since our insurance also said we have no recourse. Hubby has to resort to wearing his previous, all scratched up glasses (from our previous optometrist that had retired) just so he can see. Wish his experience was as good as the other patient's that have been there but sadly, he will not be back. read more

First time to an optometrist in a while. The staff were very friendly and explained everything to me from start to finish from paper work, to breakdown of expenses. This office uses a lot of equipment that I have never done before for an eye exam. Been here a few times over the past few years - nothing but good experiences! It's located in a corner of downtown Livermore and has its own small parking area in the back. I've come here for 2 prescription checks and to purchase a pair of frames, and then for 2 adjustments on different pairs of glasses. When I got my prescription recently, the doctor did a thorough check and gave me tips on how I could maintain the health of my eyes. Afterwards, a nice woman helped me as I looked through their selection of frames. It's extremely nice how they adjusted my glasses at no charge - once when the leg of my glasses fell off (the screw came loose), and once when my new pair of glasses were too tight and clamping the sides of my head. They were fixed and adjusted in almost no time at all - I was in and out within 10-15 minutes. Arun is super friendly and detailed! Call ahead and schedule an appointment for a visit! read more

After two attempts at finding an eye Dr. in town, my family decided to keep going all the way to San Mateo, since the Dr there is awesome, BUT... as gross as this may sound, I woke up this morning with crusty eyes. This was more than the average "I just woke up" sort of crust and being a contact lens wearer we know when something is up. I needed attention right away!! I called Dr. Volponi's office and not only was his front desk coordinator super friendly, but they got me in an hour & a half later!! Being that I've had 2 bad experiences here in town I was skeptical, but this office was superb in its friendliness and efficiency. I highly recommend Tri Valley Optometry. 4 generations on our family have been going to them beginning with my grandparents back in the 50's. Our family tradition continues because we get more than 5 star quality service from both Dr. Volponi's! When I moved out of state for awhile and had to go to another optometrist, I couldn't believe how I was "herded" in & out and left without feeling that they had even checked my eyes at all! Even though I now live in Fremont, it's worth the extra time & gas for my family to see both Dr. Volponi's. Over the years he has helped my diabetic parents avoid permanent vision problems because he was thorough in examining them, monitoring their condition and even took photos of their eyes and explained his findings in a way they understood and wrote letters to their physicians. My son thinks Dr. Jim is the greatest! After talking about their shared interests in sports, Dr. Jim prescribed some sports vision exercises and along with contacts, my son swears that Dr. Jim helped him not only to see better, but play better too! I am now at the age where I thought I would never get to- I couldn't read the newspaper! I now proudly wear my reading glasses not only to read, but also for using my computer. I also got my first pair of progressives- an updated version of the bifocals to see both for reading and for distance and I absolutely love them! read more

I hadn't been in to see Dr. Volponi in probably 15 years and went in to see him recently to get my eyes/visions checked. As always, he was extremely friendly and professional and patiently took time to thoroughly examine my eyes and answer any questions I had about how to maintain healthy vision. I ended up using old frames that I liked to replace two pairs of glasses and got a new pair made as well. The young woman who helped me choose my new pair was very nice and helpful with giving her opinion about which frames looked best and what fit my face type. The new lenses for my old frames as well as the new pair of glasses were ready in a week and I now have them in hand (and on my eyes!). I highly recommend this optometry group for their professionalism, courteousness, prompt service, and sincere concern for the patient's health. read more

I had been going here since I moved to Livermore 7yrs ago. The friendly staff, doctors, and their service kept me coming back.I always felt like i just couldnt get much benefit from the contacts and glasses that I was being prescribed.My vision deteriorated year after year and the only thing the doctor did was up my prescription.Even though it still didnt help me to see any better.Well, finally my sister moved to another Optometrist in Livermore and I followed.The other optometrist immediately diagnosed me with a condition known as Keratoconus.This condition deteriorates the cornea of your eye over time and may lead to blindness.Sadly, by the time I went to see her (my new optometrist) I was already legally blind in my left eye.This was because the doctor's at this office had FAILED to diagnose me. read more

My husband and I have tried a couple of other eye doctors, they've been ok, but we've always felt rushed and not thoroughly satisfied with the exam as well as operation of their practice. After going to Dr. Volponi, I felt this was the best eye exam I had ever had. He took his time to not just fit with proper lenses, but to also look at my medical history, addressing a few issues. My family has been going to Tri Valley Optometry since the late '60's-early '70's.. They are very family friendly and professional, not your average "herd them in and out", high sales shop. They genuinely care about your eye health. They are more old-fashioned in the sense that they take time with their patients to give the best eye exam possible. In fact, I liked Dr. Jim so much, that I married him! 26 years now and happily counting! Talk about seeing clearly! Please keep in mind that TVO does not ask patients to post positive reviews or give extra perks to do so. We stand strong in serving the Tri Valley for over 65 years.The two negative internet/Yelp reviews have both been traced to a friend and relative of former employees. Yelp does not remove bad reviews for businesses, even if proven to be false. The fact is that Dr. Jim cares more about one's eye health above all. This is the reason he chose to be an Optometrist- to help people. Because of one's defamation of Tri Valley Optometry that she was "blinded" by this office, I felt I should post this. It took me five years to link the relationship of this person to a former employee. She had one eye exam and had not been in this office for several years as she posted. The other negative post did not take nearly as long to learn the motive was to boost her friend's business, also a former employee. The friend had never been a patient in our office. Dr. Jim will spend as much time possible if a patient is in urgent need of care or needs a specialist beyond what he can give to save one's eyesight. Oftentimes, patients will endure eye pain or visual abnormalities for days and will call before closing on a Friday night because they don't want to suffer through the weekend. Tri Valley Optometry has invested in the best instruments available world-wide that enables the sharpest image inside of the eye, so many abnormalities not seen with traditional optical instruments can now be seen and monitored before the abnormalities present a problem to one's vision. I have had Dr. Jim Volponi for as long as I have been in Livermore (a very long time). The office is extremely friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgeable around insurance and pricing with insurance make sure any recommendations leverage coverage. Dr. Volponi is an excellent care giver. He is constantly leveraging new technology to manage my vision health (The Optimap is totally worth the extra $40 and I still do not understand why insurance companies don't cover it). I have never felt rushed and he is always open to my questions. He also is good about recommending changes only when necessary. read more
