I have been to 10 Costcos in Ontario and Quebec and the experiences have always been present. However this one is not. I only buy stuff that is small and unique in Costco as I am single and don't want to buy in large bulks. This past weekend when I was checking out 3 items and just after I take my credit card out of my wallet, the cashier ripped my credit card off my hand, compare my name with the membership card and to my surprise, tap it, before I had a chance to see the amount. He did not speak a single word to me during the whole process and handed me my credit card back without looking at me. He acted as if I stole the membership card and do not know how to tap a credit card properly. I understand when Costco check the name on credit card, but to tap it without my consent, is not acceptable. Also Costco tend to check my credit card when I am buying 1-3 items. In other words, if you are not buying a whole cart, you could be treated without respect because they suspect you are not a member as everyone else is buying a lot. read more

I love Costco, but I don't love how overly-crowded this place gets on weekends. You'd be lucky to find parking within five minutes, and once you're inside, maneuvering around cart traffic can also be a challenge. Not only can you buy everything in bulk, samples are provided at almost every aisle. Their rotisserie chicken is a common favorite - there is usually a line up for them. Like IKEA, Costco also has a cafeteria with cheap comfort food! $1 for a hot dog? What a sweet deal. The poutines are really good as well for under $5. They do lack variety in the vegetables section. If you're looking to stock up on veggies, they sell prepackaged frozen assorted veggies, or the only fresh ones are spinach, green beans, mushrooms and brussels sprouts. I was disappointed not being able to find broccoli or kale. It's also the best place for body builders to stock up on chicken, beef, and other sources of protein + protein powder and bars. The only credit card accepted is American Express, otherwise you can only pay in cash or debit. Line up to pay is always shorter near the middle - I'm not sure why everyone crowds to the right side. read more

I love costco!! You can grab almost anything you need here. The only 'con' is you are bound to spend at least $50+ here on a visit & most of the time the packaging is larger than what you'd see at walmart, grocery stores etc. Might be a problem if you live in a condo. But there's no place I like more than shopping for food here. I only purchase my meat (chicken, beef, etc.) at Costco. The quality is exceptional and they are always fresh. I know we must buy them in bulk but u can always freeze them separately (defrost later). I like how there's little fat to cut away when I am cooking so it makes it super convenient. The price is always right. Veggies and fruits are also super fresh. I look forward to winters when 5 giant avocados costs 'only' $4.99 (ranges 5.99 - 6.99 in the summers). Love the super large bag of broccoli ($3.99), beans, etc. Of course we also love testing out freebie snacks. On weekdays they usually stop serving freebies prior to 5pm. Try and avoid weekends. It's crazy packed and full of super SLOW ppl and their carts. Lots of parking. The staff (from what I have encountered so far) have been quite friendly & helpful. Meat counter is extremely good. Great steaks, pork ribs, etc. Dairy section has the best price on creamer, whipping cream and kefir. Book section is limited but if you find your favourite author the cheapest price on books. Seasonal selection is always fun to stroll and find great deals. With spring here, their lawn fertilizer and seeds are a excellent price. Once every three weeks for us. NOTE: They used to have really good Hot Dogs but switched a long time ago. Now they have a strong artificial smoke taste that isn't very good. Hate the Hot Dogs now. read more

Living close to a few Costco..I really don't know which one to choose sometimes... they are all equally huge to walk in but I find this one being probably the busiest locations cuz It's really just off the highway so makes it easier... Everything is usually in bulk so having a small family really doesn't make sense to buy here...unless its dry products and/or share with another family.. thats what I do...me and my friend just like to buy alot of similar items so we share alot of the times..Cuz we both don't agree on wasting food... Tasting samples before buying is definitely fun, it entices me to buy...but don't be a cheapskate sampling food and treat it like lunch..have seen way too many ppl do that..and i'd always wonder why...saving $6 for lunch?! And make urself look ugly..?! Anyways, not judging just curious.... The lines do get chaotic at times..even though, I can tell the floor managers trying to get things in an orderly manner... Service is an A-Ok, sometimes not enough staff on the floor for asking questions but costco is pretty self-explanatory... The level of service at Costco has been declining over the years. I went to this location on Mar 26, 2021 and the encounter with multiple staffs were extremely unpleasant - at the entrance where someone randomly checks people's membership card, at the cashier and at exit. In particular a cashier named Ben was extremely rude and abrupt, to the point that I told him to be gentle with the eggs but he responded with pushing the next items even harder! Very rude!!! Such a shame! Go home if you don't want your job. I prefer self checkout counters just becoz of bad experiences at stores. read more

Go big, or go home! For all the things you need, all the things you never knew you needed, and everything for the apocalypse (in bulk)! A huge place to get your essentials, no matter what time of the year or occasion. Just be careful of what you're picking up, cause your total at checkout can easily rack up over $200! You can pick up almost any grocery you need, but its wise to keep in mind that most everything is sold in bulk. Make sure you can consume all of it before the best before date, or you'll be throwing out a lot of stuff. If you go around lunchtime on the weekend, they give out free samples of food too! The best part for me are the non-perishables! I've recently gotten a new windshield wiper, snorkelling gear, and a new board short all from Costco! When in doubt, just check it out! The food here is also quite good! Hands down the best Polish Sausage Hot Dog around, though they no longer provide onions & hot peppers to put on your dog (for health reasons I suppose). It also comes with a fountain drink, which you can refill as many times you want! Don't forget the fries, which you can add gravy for $0.25! This review is for the pharmacy. It's always busy and slow regardless of it being weekday or weekend. There is always a lineup that can stretch to the tampon section. Haha. It always looks fully staff too! Just not sure why it takes so long to drop off your prescription. The same line up will reappear for pick up too. You will be spending at least a hour to get your meds. Just remember to drop off your prescription before you shop. It's cheaper than other pharmacies so I guess it's worth the wait. read more

Costco is a meal preppers dream. I usually eat pretty much the same thing during the week and I buy all my Meats here. Steak, Salmon, Chicken, Shrimp, Turkey, Tilapia, and Lean Turkey Bacon. ALL of their meats are Exceptional Quality and I have never ever had a bad experience with them. Most of their meats are super lean and best of all super cheap and in BULK! The best deal are on 2.5 dozen eggs for only $5.99!!! Its krazy how costco prices are SO CHEAP compared to other big box stores. However, you must be a Member to shop here which is super cheap and great value OR you can be like me and "piggy back" off of a good friend who is a memver and get them to buy stuff for you. Hehe! EVERYTHING is good here! Their hot dogs are only $1.50 AND you get a drink! 18" pizza is $9.99 with loads of pepperoni and cheese! The staff are always friendly and the lines move QUICK! Even though they look long, do not stress...these are not your typical Walmart lines where they make you stand and wait for 15 minutes so you buy all of the impulse items. I always love my Costco experience as I always get good value and good quality. This particular one was not overly busy. I must say that the staff was really really nice. Every time I asked for something, I was walked to the item. There were only two staff members that didn't make effort to help and one of them had the audacity to lie to me and tell me that they didn't have the helium tank in stock when there was an aisle fully stocked. All have great prices and items specific to their region. The only complaint about this place is that on weekends finding a parking spot is next to impossible. A Costco is a Costco wherever you go and I must say, I love Costco. Good thing to bring with you when you travel - your Costco membership card, because chances are, there's a Costco wherever you're traveling. We were actually staying a ta hotel about a block away so we went to Costco to grab a bite to eat. They have different food at Canadian Costcos then at U.S. Costcos. I ended up getting the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich. It was this huge sandwich with corned beef and pastrami in it with a pickle on the side and pop. It was a really meaty, filling sandwich. As for the shopping experience, they have a lot of the same stuff that they sell in the U.S. Although I did manage to score a whole box of kinder buenos. I love kinder buenos!!! read more

Somewhere out there, there's a manual written on building a suburban division and in that manual it says "erecting a Costco Wholesale is a must have". There's a reason why they don't have Costco's in downtown Toronto.. Because city folks don't have enough room in their 500sq ft condo to put all the oversize crap you buy at costos. 48 roll toilet paper, cheese by the kilo, oversize cereal boxes etc. I love Costco, and could never think of leaving it behind. Everytime you go, it's like an exciting venture, what new thing are they going to have! Any good sales!?!? ohhh ahhhhh...You can find some really good prices, such as on books, cheese, and fruits/veggies and meats... but there are things that you may as well buy at the grocery stores as the savings aren't too big such as bottled water, or canned soup. The place to be when I need to buy in bulk with savings. However though, majority of their products are Kirkland so there is a limit of brand choice. Their pharmacy has lower fees than other places from what I remember. Paying is a headache though because of long lines. When you need to buy stuff in bulk you come here. The atmosphere here is always clean and big. The fruits are always fresh and the meats as well. I normally come here to get my steaks and fresh fruits and the occasional snacks. The only thing I don't like about coming here is that it is always very hard to find a good parking spot. On a regular basis customer service is not a problem, but today we came across one of the worst managers/supervisors of all time. My mom reapplied for a Costco credit card and was issued a temporary one under her English name. This Maria woman gave us the hardest time at the register, not allowing us to pay on the basis that her ID is her Chinese name. I swear it's racism. This escalated into a heated debate. They could have verified her identity through checking their system and finding a photo of her, since she's been a member for many years. But she failed to do so and instead persisted stubbornly and rudely. She also said "if you don't wanna go through with your payment, that's ok too". Pretty much "you can go home, we don't want you here". I give props to the male Asian cashier who told Maria "this is typical for Asian families to have different names on their ID". What doesn't make sense is this temporary ID worked numerous times at the John Birchall location, hands down. Poor customer service. Poor managerial skills. I friggin' heart costco. My husband and I make a pilgrimage here every few months to stock up on things that are considerably cheaper than at a regular store. We tend to leave somewhat flustered, and about $200-$300 poorer, but we get in, get what we need, and haul out back to civilization*. Here are things we've scored good deals on/Costco essentials: 1) Produce - it's cheap. It's not local, but it's cheap. Berries and asparagus are always a great deal and easy to consume. If I buy other fruit here I have to make a fruit-eating-plan so that it doesn't go bad. 2) Cereal - they have all kinds, including organic. 3) Recycled toilet paper (not from trees) - hard to find space in our apartment for dozens of rolls of toilet paper, but, considerably cheaper here and worth the challenge! 4) Kirkland faux uggs - they are the BEST! $40 to keep your tootsies cozy and warm, without the guilt of stepping into slush and realizing that you've ruined your $300 ugly boots! Mine lasted about 2 seasons so it's a steal. 5) Socks and underwear - especially men's undershirts. 6) Cheese. It's the cheapest way for me to make my vegetarian lasagna. 7) Cans of diced tomatoes. Pretty much goes into every recipe. 8) Bedding and towels - they have some great selection (I bought two Egyptian cotton beach towels there last time for $15 a pop!) 9) Kitchen stuff - aside from having some really cute things for the house, they have a plethora of high quality stuff for a good price - we replaced all of our bake wear with this fancy high-end technology for $23! 10) Pregnancy tests - 3 for $15! (probably more effective than the dollar store ones) 11) Sonic Care toothbrushes and toothbrush heads - the heads are three for the price of two! 12) ECOS laundry detergent - it's a natural detergent and $18 for over a hundred loads. 13) Frozen Edamame - they come in individual packets, just toss it in the microwave. 14) Frozen vegetarian pizza - much cheaper than buying single packages, this one comes in a pack of 3. 15) Non-organic Libertine Yogurt There are about a million other things, but now you've had a (slightly awkward) window into our shopping list. Worth going if you have a car and a need for copious amounts of stuff! *To be fair, I spent most of my life being only a hop, skip, and a jump from a number of Costco's - but now as a city dweller I feel as if I should make as many sarcastic remarks where permitted. btw - they do NOT take credit cards other than amex~ read more

I was in Costco Markham 22/09/2019, and this is my 3rd time in this location, I always go to Warden Costco, Unfortunately I was so dis appointed, I bought Rogaine for Men and I paid $180. at the Pharmacy section, When I was about to pay and finish my shopping, my cart was gone with my purchase and paid from the pharmacy. I tried to look around and maybe taken by mistake, but the whole cart was gone. Talked to the manager and told me that they are not responsible for that, inspite, that I'm still inside the store. Went to pickup my car after an oil change and the customer service was horrible. The attendant at the desk ignored me and was extremely rude. This is my last visit to this Tire Location. Service related employees should be trained and not be dropped into a position that they are not suited or trained for. Shame on the Costco Management. Finding parking is always hectic but their fries is the best fries! Their pharmacy has the lowest dispensing fee than any other pharmacy, but the wait time is quite long, usually 30-40mins! 20lb propane is $10ish compare to canadian tire which is almost $30! Can't say that I don't love Costco because you can get bulk items for less. Perfect for families because you end up getting bang for your buck. I come here to buy the main essentials such as toiletries, vitamins, eggs and bottled water. Be prepared to spend average $150-200 because you end up buying things you don't actually need. Checkout is fast and efficient especially on a weekend. Be prepared to fight the asian crowd if you come on a weekend. The parking is a zoo since this location is in Markham so park far if you can! Overall, one of the better Costco locations to go to. read more

I am quite pleasantly surprised at the food offered at their little food court. Ordered chicken tenders and fries (compared to the other foods this was pricier). Very good serving enough to share with my Bf and still have some left over. As for Costco, every single one I go to is always packed busy. This is not the best Costco in and around Markham but it's the one closest to home. As usual, the employees are very competent and the selection is good. Prices are generally better but it's depend on the type of item. There's not much to say. You know what Costco is. This branch is an older one so it will fail in comparison to the ones in east Markham and Richmond Hill. read more

Guy at the tire centre (Alex?) was very helpful and assisted with getting new tires for my car. I had a flat on some crappy tires and needed them to be replaced as the threads were wearing down on the others. He helped me make my selection and squeezed an appointment in for me. Thanks for the speedy service! Costco is always great for samples. It's like a free meal if you get something from each table. Some great eats most of time. Customer service at this location is extremely rude. My husband and I were curious to find out if the Costco in Canada is any different from the ones in the US, we decided to spend an hour of our vacation time to check out this Costco since it was right across the street from the homewood suites we stayed at. Upon check out it was one thing after another. They told us they didn't accept American Express (I thought maybe they don't use Amex in canada or something, but apparently this is not true according to yelp.) they wouldn't accept my debit card because it had a visa logo on it (again, must be a canadian thing). Without saying anything to us, the cashier completely voided the transaction and wouldn't let us check out, I didn't know what was going on, i had to request to talk to the manager twice. Luckily my husband and I had enough cash to pay in US dollars. All this for a bottle of ketchup and maple syrup. So to answer my curiousity yes, the Costco in Canada was much different, they were very disrespectful. This experience ruined our vacation. Upon coming home to my local Costco, I found out that they put a block on my member card during my last visit..... How rude! read more

It is ill advised to go to the Costco on Woodbine Avenue during the weekend as it is very difficult to find any parking. The isles are very narrow and hard to move around other people. The store is cluttered. read more

The Tire Centre here is phenomenal. I cannot and will not speak to the service inside the store - although Consumer Reports makes it clear you dont go to Costco for service -- but the guys at the tire shop have a great attitude. My car picked up a nail, I phoned at 6:45 PM and Alex said to come right over, I did, and he spent 30 minutes doing the repair himself, patch and plug. All free, covered by warranty. We went to this location to purchase glasses for our child for the first time this weekend and boy is it ever crowded so early in the morning. Parking was hard to find and the isles inside were so narrow that it was hard to move around other people. Line ups were long. Shabnam, the optician, even got our order wrong after rushing to put it through. We had to drive back which took another half an hour to cancel the order and repurchase the glasses. The only reason we came to this location was that we could not find a suitable pair of glasses that fits our child properly at the other Costco location off Markham Road. If you like shopping at Costco in Markham, i recommend the one located on Markham Road. There is more parking and the warehouse is more spacious. Customer service at the optical centre is even better. read more
