One of my essential business where I not only purchase staple products like paper goods to fruits/ veggies- but everything from electronics to wine and beer. Love the selection as it slightly changes by month... There are even Asian products like soy & teriyaki sauce/seasonings, wonton soup, egg rolls, fried rice... Only things missing are hard liquors since the Alabama laws don't allow for it. Oh did I mention TVs to cameras to office supplies are a bargain here? Suggestion- try to avoid this place on the weekend during the day- if can be like 280 during rush hour. Came here for the first time ever on Saturday I usually do my bulk shopping from Sam's so I was eager to see the difference in the two I have to admit there's not much of a difference I can say you will pay a little more at Costco but it seems like you get more with some items so I'm ok with that I didn't get a chance to go in the liquor store we didn't realize they closed so early one of the workers let us know very rudely they closed @6 after asking my husband if he needed help finding anything he replied no & the guy said we closed 20 minutes ago?? Nothing was announced & there were plenty of people still shopping he was extremely rude & I didn't like that one bit it's a better way to communicate with people my husband is soft spoken but I'm not & currently working on that I knew the guy pissed my husband off and it took everything for me to keep my composure so we got the hell up out of there! I enjoyed my experience here. I bought a new set of tires that came with a $150 discount. When I came here I waited for my truck which took about an hour and a half. For a hotdog, there is not any other place that comes to mind before Costco's famous $1.50 combo. The Costco in Hoover uses a new ordering system where you pay at a self-service kiosk and wait for your order to be called at the station. The wait was longer than expected but I did go during the lunch rush and it was not unbearable. The hotdog is very standard, but I did not like the bun it was served in. The bread tasted chalky and under-baked. I do like how there is a topping station to customize your order and for the value this was worth it. read more

I love that Costco not only has so many options for shopping, but cheap and yummy food options by the checkout. I love having a little snack after shopping here. I usually always get the pepperoni pizza, but this time I got the hot dog. I really liked it because not only was the quantity large, but the price was cheap too. I also got relish and ketchup with the hotdog. I did not sit and eat there, however. I took it home and ate it since I had a lot of groceries to put away. I ended up really liking the hotdog! And the workers at Costco are always so nice. However, the wait was just a little lengthy, which was understandable because there were so many people. It was a Saturday after all. Since this is not COVID peak time anymore, there were no longer any restrictions. And they used paper plates or aluminum foil for food. I enjoy looking for the products on sale throughout the entire warehouse. I normally find products that everyone in the household will enjoy from apples to pizza to shrimp. Recently I purchase a box of personal size pizza and they did not last a week ( I went back to get another box.) , the same same thing happened with a box of 54 individual chips. My grandchildren love these and many other items as well ( some of the adults are eating them as well). I really enjoy the seafood especially the salmon and shrimp ( fresh and frozen in the freezer). I am a Costco enthusiast, but sadly, this is the closest one to me and I'll be making the switch to Sam's. First, the location is right next to a mall and has a very small/ crammed parking lot. It also is the worst layout that I have seen. My family usually loves to grab lunch and then shop, but the checkout areas, exit and food court are all piled on top of each other. Maybe it's because this is the only location in Bham, but it's always extremely packed, unlike any other Costco I've Been to. I visited this Costco twice in the last month and have had terrible service. The staff don't seem interested at all in helping customers. Very disappointed with this location. First was the badgering us to purchase the deluxe membership to the HORRIBLE customer service when we had trouble with the hearing aides that were purchased. Has kind of always set the bar for membership style stores. They seem to have high standards at any and all locations. I have had memberships in Oregon, California, and Alabama and all follow the corporate standards for customer service. If you're not familiar with Costco, when you walk through the door you have to show them your membership card. They wave you on and it's off to the shopping. It seems they try to keep similar layouts from store to store so you don't have to re-familiarize yourself with a new location. Electronics, household, fresh produce, bakery items, butcher meats, frozen food, dairy, pet food and treats, boxed and canned food, clothes, snacks, books and magazines, over the counter medications are just the starting point. They have seasonal items as well as a pharmacy, vision center, tire center, food court, etc. It really isn't hard to pay for your membership. This is big box at it's best, and they provide pretty deep discounts for purchasing in bulk. Also, they have some unique meal options that you won't find in any of the local stores. Check out the coolers between the meat and wine for some of these offerings. read more

The young nice lady insisted on showing me the advantage of the $120 card. After she finished I again selected the $60 card to start. I have Sam's and only wanted to compare the two. She again tried to get me to start with the higher card and I can always come down. "I also can always go up right" I asked? I love coming abd picking up produce and bread! The meat section is awesome because I can get fresh meats in great sizes to cook some now and freeze the rest for later! I took my mom out to Costco one day and she ended up purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge! Got a great deal on it, only through Costco! I am like a kid at a candy store every time I go to Costco and now that they accept visa, It is even better. My adventures at Costco began as a young child. I have been used to going to Costco every weekend in California. I was happy to find that the one in Hoover had a very similar layout with just a few shortcomings. The great things about Costco: Firstly, they have a separate area for liquor, which is quite a recent addition. You can find huge vodka bottles for pennies on the dollar. Even the Kirkland brand Vodka is quite smooth and comes in a nice glass bottle. Smirnoff is a more recognizable brand they carry, but the bottle is plastic. Secondly, Costco really has everything. You can find phones, tv's, fruits, baked goods, meat, toilet paper, and just about everything in-between. They have lots of organic and healthy options and the milk is always under $3.00. The fruit at Costco seems to have a superior quality although it may be my bias. Thirdly, the Food Court. The food court alone is reason enough to visit. They have $2.00 slice of pizza and somewhere around $9.98 for an entire 18 inch pizza. I prefer getting the vegetable pizza. Unfortunately, they have mixed veggies so I can not get rid of the olives, but for 10 bucks I do not mind picking them off. The hot dogs are great too with a price of $1.50 for a huge hot dog and a drink. The berry smoothie is a must try as well at 1.58 with tax. Lastly, the gas is always cheaper than the rest. I have gotten premium gas for as low as $2.07 this year. Really beats paying upwards of $2.64. The downsides include: 1. A crowded parking lot. 2. A crowded gas station. 3. There is not a separate pick up area at the food court for people who place orders while checking out. (This one is quite nitpicky) read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Costco. Love the store, hate the crowds. My cousin and I ventured out last night to brave the mobs in preparation for the apocalypse. The insanity commenced as soon as we approached the parking lot. Over 50 cars circled the lot looking for parking. There were several employees at the door checking membership cards and wiping down everyone's carts with sanitizer as they entered. Once inside, there was not one shopping cart to be found. Luckily, we saw one that had been abandoned sitting off to the side and we sprinted to claim it. The place was a complete zoo. Hundreds and hundreds of people scurrying about in panic mode. I was on the verge of an anxiety attack several times, but the Costco staff did an amazing job maintaining control. There were plenty of staff within the aisles replenishing inventory, reorganizing, and assisting shoppers. Once we were ready to check-out, there were two employees working hard to keep the ridiculously long lines in order. They were diligent in directing traffic flow, funneling people from two big lines into the different check-out lanes. No cuts, no buts, no coconuts. The staff manning the registers were quick, friendly, and sincerely apologetic about the long lines. Surprisingly enough, even though it was the busiest, most chaotic Costco trip I've ever had, it was the most pleasant, organized experience I've had. Two thumbs way, way up! read more

I decided to grab a hotdog while I was shopping in Costco . I do not usually eat hot dogs or prefer them but if I did , I would definitely prefer these Hot dogs . They come in a nice warm bun and I assume they are boiled because that's how they taste.I was surprised how big the hot dog was considering the price I payed which was $1.50 for a hot dog that came in a brown bag and drink . The condiments are in the dining area in big containers where you can push the condiment or your choice out. Costco is a big store with many big things so I thought there would be a wait time in receiving my order but I put my order in at 7:56pm and got it by 7.57pm.The customer service is not that great they just call your ticket number and do not say anything else after that. As far as Covid precautions go , I did not see any that were being followed considering the condiments where in squeeze bins and the drink fountains were open so I would definitely take hand sanitizer and get extra napkins . read more

A old lady who was helping us at the time, her name it's Judy, she was rude and she put some of our groceries on the floor and left us to help the people behind us. Ok, so it's hard to be objective when talking about Costco. I spent most of my life not having access to Costco, so the fact that I can now visit one on a regular basis is a win for me. They keep the store well stocked and even though Birmingham is a smaller market, they still have a really good selection of unique goodies and organic foods. The liquor selection is a little underwhelming compared to other Costco's and there are some products we just don't seem to get here...but like I said, I'm thrilled to have access to a Costco and have only had positive experiences on each of our shopping trips! The employees are very friendly and don't make me feel bad for indulging in copious amounts of samples and the lines seems to never be too long. Costco holds a very special place in my heart. I worked at the warehouse in Huntsville, AL from 2005-2017, so I think it's easy to understand why. Whenever I want a good hot dog, this is my go-to spot! As per usual, the mask mandate is still in effect at Costco for both members and employees. I was pleased to see that Costco made some changes at the food court. Members can now place their own order at a register, and then present the receipt to the food court employee. After giving the employee my receipt for my hot dog I was eager to chow down. Even though I've eaten these hot dogs for 16 years, every time feels like the first time! Costco is all about high quality and this hot dog doesn't miss the mark! For one, it's 100% all beef. When you've had a quality dog you can't go back to the ones full of fillers and artificial ingredients. The taste is truly immaculate! Second, the price can't be beat. For a 1.50, you get large hot dog with a drink that comes with refills ( fun fact: the price of the hot dog/drink combo at Costco has been the same price for 35 years!). read more

After entering the store using a Costco card and going throughout the store selecting items and putting them in our cart, we (my girlfriend and I) went up to the registers to make our purchase where we were greeted very passive aggressively by a worker (First name Linda) at the self checkout registers who checked our card and told us that we cannot purchase any items because the card was owned by my girlfriend's mother. After Linda called over an associate (who also was incredibly passive aggressive and unwelcoming) to help see if my girlfriend had been added to the card, which she was not. I understand that this is protocol but the fact that none of this was checked at the entrance and that we were let into the store and walked around for 20 or so minutes just to get to the register and told we cannot purchase anything seems like your "system" is not necessarily being enforced equally. This is also the first time this has happened in my history of going to Costco. I also understand that policies can change and that the family membership requires that any other user of the card must be added to the account, but the fact that not every worker cares equally about the customer and their experience is absolutely ridiculous. I could care less if this store had all good or all bad workers but I just want things to be consistent. That isn't that hard to ask as I also work in retail and I can say that a solid work environment is not that hard to achieve. Both me and my girlfriend feel unvalued and quite angry by our experience today. We will be put under the account but likely will not be returning anytime soon. read more

This store is always super busy, but especially on the weekend. We arrived at about 10:15 (they open at 10:00) and it was already quite crowded, but with the recent expansion, I never feel like it's too horrible inside. They are also good at this location about keeping most (if not all) of the registers open during their busiest hours. Today we were able to walk right up and check out, but even when that's not the case, I find the lines move fairly quickly. We regularly purchase some food and household items from here, but recently got great deals on some electronics as well. I like Costco stores in general, they are usually clean, spacious and provide a lot of really high quality products for a reasonable price: salmon, steelhead, real European cheese, real Belgian chocolate, good wine, ground coffee in cans, dried fruits, etc. What I don't like about this particular store is that they constantly rearrange their stock. It happens from time to time in every store, but in this one they can move the item into a different place every month and with that size of a store, I have to waste a lot of time finding it. My husband and I had a very bad experience when we went to try to get a membership they tried to sell us a higher club membership and the lady would not take no for an answer and then the manager came and she was trying to get us to go higher on a membership also and when they were both extremely pushy I was humiliated because I finally had to tell them I got laid off from a job and we do not have the extra money and we are fortunate to be even getting groceries. I later talked to the manger away from the big line that was behind me, how humiliated I was and how harassed we felt and that we did not even want to shop there it just ruined our whole day and we were so embarrassed and then she said well I can cancel your membership if you want me to. No matter which Costco I go to, the parking lot is always packed! Makes me wish I had bought stock in this company years ago! This Costco is literally the same set up as the one in Kailua-Kona, if you're familiar, from the Food Court being inside the store near the front registers to the location of the baked goods, freezers and refrigerated areas. I'm always amazed when I visit Costco in different States, as their uniformity is amazing! From the greeter/card checker at the door, to the set up of the store, to the prices! Yes, the prices! Believe it or not, the prices of the items in the mainland and Hawaii are exactly the same! At least for the many items I usually purchase! This makes me more of a Costco fan, knowing that we aren't being gouched in Hawaii with add-on shipping costs! It actually makes me feel better to know that I was paying less in Hawaii, since our sales tax was half that of Alabamas! As I walked through the aisles here, I looked at the various items I would buy, and things I would not buy, for that matter. The items were very similar, if not the same, to our Maui and Honolulu Stores. The set up of the cashiers were also the same, and as I stood in line, I was able to check out their Food Court menu, which consisted of all the same items available on Maui, all at the same prices! Although in Hoover, there's a Sam's Club just down the street, it's amazing how Costco parking lots everywhere are always jam packed! Although I purchased only one item, the experience was the same. The good thing too is that if I was not happy with my purchase there, I could return it on Maui, without a problem. I love you, Costco! read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Ordered tires to be put on a truck with an appointment at 1pm called the morning of to confirm and was told to come early and they could put them on. Got there at 10am and waited until 2:30 finally after the 6th car that pulled up and had their tires change asked what was taking mine so long and they told me they "didn't need my business".
