In the 1990s and early 2000s (showing my age) the Riverchase Galleria was the best place to shop in the Birmingham area. Over time, competition from places like The Summit, the rise of online shopping, store closures (Sears, Rich's, Macy's and Belk Home and Kids), then the shootings in 2018 and 2020 led to a huge decline.For a while, it felt like the Galleria would not be able to recover. Well, now it's 2026, and the popularity of the Galleria is rising again. The mall feels brighter, cleaner and safer, due to improved management and security. It's a great spot to spend time indoors during AL's extreme heat, cold or rain (it offers covered parking too). Best of all, the iconic features remain, like the large American flag and classic carousel in the central atrium, and (best of all) Santa's workshop during the holiday season, and make it a fun alternative for young families and grandparents. So if you haven't been to the Galleria in a while, give it a try. It is worth a visit again. read more

It's safe to say that malls aren't what they used to be. The Galleria is better used to get some steps in while dodging outdoor elements than for a shopping experience. At one point this was a decent mall (many many years ago). Hopefully ownership and investors can either find another use for this space or put some love in it to actually attract people. I'm sure it is difficult with many purchases being made online these days, but great businesses know how to pivot. I suppose we will see if they choose to be great or not in the coming years. read more

I was visiting my friend in Alabama and we went to This mall. I really enjoyed my experience. Lots of variety of shops and good eats. We especially enjoyed shopping at the following stores: express, Francesca's and H &M. We stopped at a little restaurant with fresh watermelon juice and ate pretzels at Auntie M 's ( think that's the right name) ! I felt safe also because there was a large security presence. read more

This mall has completely gone down. The only stores left are Belk, Macy's,, Von Mar, and JcPenny, The rest of the stores inside are stores I've never heard of. I only went because I was looking for a formal dress for my daughter. No luck at all finding a dress. The food court is the same with people waving their sample at you to taste. This place has seen brighter days. In terms of a mall experience, this is IT for the surrounding area. I rarely visit the Galleria but I did recently to return an item i purchased online. Parking wasn't an issue. The part of the mall i visited was clean but the store I walked through to get into the mall was dated. Like I said , the Galleria has had its "hay day." I don't go to the Galleria often, but anytime I do, I feel like it's dying a slow death. Like most malls in America, online commerce has taken away the joys of going to the mall " to shop for clothes" and you're left with anchor stores trying to hang on and mediocre stores inside desperate to lure customers in for a sale. I was looking forward to taking my one year old on a carrousel ride and was disappointed to see that wasn't even functioning. I know that the trend is for open air shopping centers, but I don't really like them. I avoid the traffic nightmare on 280 and will more often order from those retailers online than drive over there. (I generally shop/eat, etc. in the Riverchase side of Hoover/Pelham/Alabaster area, a lot is "out of my way.") Open air malls are super spread out, and they're not great if the weather's not great--and who wants to go shopping when the weather's fantastic? The Galleria solves those issues. The Galleria is pretty big. Even so, it isn't terrible to walk since there are two levels. I love that I can go to multiple stores whether it's raining, hot, or cold outside. And if I decide I want something to eat, it's all centrally located. Von Maur and Belk are currently the best big stores in the mall, IMO. And because they have exterior entrances, you can just go in those stores if you don't want to make a day of it. The other anchor is JCPenney. And of course, Costco is in an outparcel, so it's a good draw. All that said, I think the pandemic is taking a huge toll on The Galleria and retail in general. I went through the other day, and I was stunned by the number of closed stores that were there earlier in the year or just before the pandemic. There is still a fair number of stores, though, and I will always go there when I need a variety or the opportunity to look for something in multiple retailers. read more

This mall is close to where I live and it's an indoor mall so that is already enough to keep as a visitor/customer. The Galleria is big and it has a good variety of department stores like Belk, Macy's, Von Maur, JCPenney, and Sears. The also have some of the smaller clothing stores like Forever 21, New York & Company, Old Navy, Gap, Crazy 8, and many others. If I'm looking for an outfit, I normally can find what I want here. I don't eat at the food court a lot, but when I do, it's generally at the Chick-fil-A. My kids always try to sucker me into letting them ride the merry go round, which I normally allow. This mall, like most, has a lot of vendors/kiosks. I notice a lady who applies eyelashes and she seems to always have customers. There are some vendors that try to stop you to get you to buy something (like hair straightening tools or lotions/body creams). I've had a vendor be somewhat aggressive in their sell tactics, which I do not like. However, most of them are laidback. There's a shop inside that Galleria that sells formalwear. I went there looking for pink bow ties for my boys because they were in a wedding. The store did not have what I was looking for, but the lady said she could make some for me. I showed her the color of the bridesmaids' dresses and she had some fabric that matched it. She made two kid-size bow ties for me in less than a day. I'm looking forward to the Dave & Buster's that is coming! From my understanding, it is going to be located where Forever 21 was located, which I think will be a great spot for it. I never appreciated malls until my sister/best friend had a baby. It's hard for us to find things to do during the week after work that can accommodate baby life. The Galleria is a haven for moms. The Von Maur bathroom for moms is gorgeous and clean. There's a private nursing station and large changing tables. All equipped with comfy couches and clean bathrooms. This is a place a mom can do her walking and avoid the Alabama heat, sit and eat at the food court which is decent, and nurse and change her baby. There are elevators in front of Von Maur and in each Department store. Never used them until we needed the stroller. They have your typical Gap, Old Navy, Bath and Body, VS, Sephora, Nail Place, phone place, boutiques, Forever 21, Hot Topic, Spencer's, Yankee Candle, Pandora, Torrid, H & M, Express, and a few threading salons. Plus a ton more that I'm forgetting. At the food court, there's Chick Fil A, Starbucks, Asian, Charley's, cookie company, pop corn, etc. Wish there were more healthier options. There's a Ruby Tuesday inside and outside a ton of favorite chains. IE Bonefish, Stixx, Outback, J Alexander's. I'm guilty of always eating at Chick Fil A though and the one here doesn't disappoint. It's crowded at all times but it's always fresh and good. For kids they have the carousel in the food court. I'm in my early 30s and remember riding it when I was 9 or 10. I think they're getting a Dave and Busters by next year. There are 4-5 Dept stores inside including Macy's, Belk, Bon Maur, Sears and JC Penny's. Tips: Avoid Weekends, Avoid pre holidays, Christmas season. This is the biggest mall in Alabama so all the littles near by small towns invade it. Get the strawberry lemonade at Charley's. Parking is okay during the week. The best time to come is mid day on a Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Most of the people who work in the Galleria are decent. Never had anyone be rude to me, however no one has been exceptionally nice and accommodating either. They stay out of your way but will acknowledge you. But it is hard to find cashiers in the department stores. You have to kind of wait or keep walking until see one with a person behind the register. The Galleria is the heart of Hoover and I live close to it. It holds many memories and I'll always love the smell of it. I like this place and I hope it doesn't die. read more

This mall is pretty big. I spent over 30 minutes looking for The Body Shop. It's listed on Yelp as being inside the mall but I couldn't find it. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate a map inside the mall either. So, I asked two employees inside Bed, Bath, and Beyond if they knew where it was located. And they didn't. So, I eventually gave up searching for it. I looked on The Body Shop website and it indicated that the nearest store was in Atlanta. The food court has a range of options. The mall itself was pretty busy. I'm guessing holiday shoppers were taking advantage of the post-Christmas sales. If this mall had an interactive map or info desk somewhere I didn't come across it. Parking wasn't too bad - I found a spot sort of near the front without having to go around in circles. Not much more I can say. The mall seems to be thriving and has plenty of popular stores. Unlike many malls, Riverchase is not only a higher end shopping destination, it's also surprisingly busy. And not just busy with shoppers, which could be related to the season. It's busy with shops. I did not see more than three boarded up / empty shops that were unoccupied. That's good. Big food court with several options (though everyone always seemed to be crowded around McDonald's), lots of open space, lots of room for walking and generally just a "not crowded" feel when walking around the mall. Tons and tons of parking. Surface lots surround the mall and there are at least two large multi-story parking decks. All seemed pretty well lit. Lots and lots of shopping. Big anchor stores. One-off franchises. All the jewelry chains. All the cell phone carriers. And strangely, lots of sneaker stores including two facing each other. read more

My opinion of the mall has change thru out the years I been coming here. I'll give you my inside views laying it down with the positive and the negative. There are many stores that may have what you need from fashion to décor. When you walk inside the main entrance, you will have to take a moment to be amazed by the glass ceiling. If you needed something to eat, there a variety of places in the food court to choose from. The little ones will have a blast riding the carousel and there also a train stationed near the Sears department store they would enjoy as well. Many restaurants outside the surrounding mall can make it difficult to choose from depending on your taste buds. Every time I'm there, I always noticed a few vacant stores. You probably want to avoiding come here on weekend since its tend to be very crowded and you might feel like you're walking with a bunch of cattle. Don't bother eating at the food court since all the table will be occupied at a curtain time. If you can, I'd recommend coming here on weekdays when everybody is back at work and school so you can walk freely without bumping into people. read more

A great, big mall.. walking the mall (which I will see plenty of people doing even during the day time) will give you decent exercise. A great variety of stores and kiosks. Department stores like Belk, JCPenney, Macy's, Sears, Von Maur, and I hear they will be building a Dave & Busters here. At the end of one of the corners in the mall is a Bumpernets area with the typical arcade activities.. it's actually quite strange as it's at least two different store fronts. I do wonder what D&B will do to Bumpernets, but I am getting off track. Point is, there is plenty of shopping and activities here! As for the food court, I give it 2/5 stars. The saving grace here is the Chick Fil A and the merry go round. There are other fast food options such as Subway, Great Wraps, Charley's, a japanese place, a chinese place, a "home style" cooking place... and some others that I may be forgetting. I tried a few places.. overall the food here is overpriced and tastes subpar. Why is the food overpriced? Please, someone tell me why a 6 inch sub costs almost $5 here. My go to for eats when I'm at this mall is either ChickFilA or to leave the mall altogether. Other options in the mall for snacks are frozen yogurt, a cinnamon roll place (not CinnaBun), and Annie's pretzels. They are building a Vietnamese restaurant next to the food court inside the mall. We went to the mall cause I was trying to find some nice shirts which are getting harder and harder to find. I dont fancy shirts that show my girls off/ too short/ teeny bopper clothes . I'm a lady who tries to dress like a lady ..Still many places were empty/shut down. Alot of prom dress places? Why? The escalators on one side closed off . (They never do fix anything do they..Its been a issue for years) Game stop gone..Noticed many stores have left and went to Patton Creek. I dont blame them truly! Spencers will outlast everything!!!! Lol . We bought a HM glow in the dark pop and two shirts I found on at Macy's. Most places had clothes on sale trying to get rid of summer and last fall merchandise. Unfortunately whats in is too loud/too revealing for this Southern gal. The bathroom was nasty , nasty !! No soap !!! I carry hand sanitizer for such occasions!! Even some teens were complaining .. teens yup ..The best part was they have a few different eating places in the food court now. We ate at the Thai one. Got a apple tea (good) with lychee jelly . Great stores such as H&M, Aerie, American Eagle, Hollister, Macy's, Belk, JCPenney etc. They are currently offering free rides in the cafeteria on the carousel. Great food options. I use to love going to the Galleria after a long days work to do get something to eat and do some shopping or even some exercise window browsing. However, since covid hit, they have been closing at 7pm and I work until 6pm. By the time I get there, it's 6:30 and everything is closing. It has to be killing the restaurant's and businesses. Today I decided to swing by the galleria as I haven't been here in ages. For the most part, this is the nicest mall in a 50 mile radius. The premise seems well kept, and there is a large variety of stores. The food courts seem consist, Asian spot, smoothies, sandwiches and fast food joints. I absolutely loathe going to the mall. Having to fight traffic, park far away from your destination, and dealing with gobs of people just to do something I hate (aka shopping), makes me want to put 1 star reviews on every mall I can think of. All that being said, it wouldn't be fair to the malls for me to go on a one star Yelping rampage. So I will push down my very strong opinions about malls as a whole and give an honest view of The Galleria vs other malls. And in that regard, it is just A-ok. For me personally, The Galleria seems like an eternity away. So I rarely find myself here. When I do, they do have a decent amount of parking. I have never seen it even close to capacity. But I also avoid it during Christmas shopping season altogether... and that would be the most likely time. A lot of the stuff is dated since it is well over 20 years old. But unlike other malls of that age, they do keep it pretty clean. It is certainly not close to the biggest mall I have been to. But it is pretty extensive in its shops and offerings. Malls are becoming something that is somewhat in the past. So I don't see someone building a newer mall than this. So keep chugging along Galleria. I see you doing that for a while. read more

Security guard harkless approached me and my fully trained service dog. He first asked if she was a service dog which I responded yes. We come to this mall quite often and I've never really had an issue. My service dog is fully trained and hasn't had any incidents in a long while. This day she did not make a single mistake kept a nice heel the whole time and tasked accordingly. No mistakes no issues. He approaches us and starts making kissy noises towards my service dog (which distracting a service animal is already a violation of the ada) and he was purposely trying to distract her. at about 5:30 pm this was roughly about an hour after we had originally arrived. After he asked if she was a service dog I responded with "yes she is a medical alert service dog" which he responded with "can I see her service dog documentation" I responded with "under the ada law America's disability act you are only allowed to ask 2 questions is it a service dog and what task is it trained to preform" I continued to try and educate by telling him service dog registries did not exist. my dog sat patiently the entire time keeping a focus this entire interaction. My service dog made no mistakes she's fully trained and I feel as if I was discriminated against. He continued to ignore me and continued on with paperwork and I responded with "so you are kicking me out because my service dog is here?" He responded with "yes I'm escorting you because your service dog does not have documentation and we have trained detention dogs on the premises" mind you these "trained dogs" have lunged and barked at my service dog in the past prior to this interaction on numerous occasions there was no dog on the premises at this time. He then continued to follow us out of the mall grabbed a shopping cart and proceeded to follow our dogs closely behind attempting to scare my service dog with the cart. I believe I was heavily discriminated against by this organization and these actions caused by harkless sent me into a PTSD attack. I believe this incident was an act of unlawful discrimination on the basis of disability. read more

Let's get real -- I hate malls. It's not a philosophical opposition so much as a logistical one. Malls are always too big and too confusing and parking usually sucks. This mall, like many others, has a road going in a circle around it, but there seems to be decent signage for the anchor stores. They also have a Hyatt attached, which I don't really follow, but the husband made good use of the shoe shine stand in their lobby. We came to Riverchase to visit exactly one store (Clarks), and since we did so on a Monday, the mall obviously wasn't very busy. We easily found parking outside Sears and came in to the mall through the store. I don't have much to say about the mall itself. Two levels, the usual kinds of stores, you get the idea. However, they do have a really nice carousel in the middle of the food court. And because it was my birthday, and I'm not [AGE CENSORED], I'm actually five, I totally went for a ride on it (on the elephant). And it was awesome. The weekends are bustling so forget finding a place to sit at the food court. The traffic and parking can be a disaster depending on the time & day. Overall, I prefer Brookwood Village. Located at the heart of Hoover is the Riverchase Galleria Mall. Circular drive goes all the way around the large mall offering multiple ways in and out. Plenty of parking of parking to be had, just remember where you parked. Also, that being said once Black Friday hits until after Christmas it can be a little bit crazy. Typical mall set up with four large stores making up the ends (Macy's, JC Penny, Belk and Sears.). In between these stores are all the smaller niche stores. If you are looking for shoes, sunglasses, trendy clothes, home decor, toys and games, a sweet treat or just want to kick back at the food court and grab some food, this mall has it all. Be warned, if you are going to try and grab some food from the food court near normal meal times you may have an exceptionally hard time finding a seat. They also have a couple sit down restaurants, however I haven't tried those yet. Seems like they have a little more mall security on the inside to compliment the ones that are patrolling the parking areas. Pricing can range for inexpensive to high end put a hurting on the pocket book. But, they have so many different options it isn't hard to have the day slip away as you go from store to store. During the holidays they have the usual set up for kids to sit on Santa or Easter Bunny lap for pictures. Occasionally they have displays set up through out the mall. A couple years ago they had the some of the largest Lego displays I have ever seen. Also, the circular around the mall has some great places to eat such as Redlands (J Alexander), Olive Garden, Outback, On tap to go along with large chain stores like Home Depot and Costco. Plenty to do in the area and not a bad way to spend an afternoon (especially if it's raining). read more

Not the type of galleria I was expecting. I have gone to my fair share of malls. To give you a reference point, I love the Galleria in Houston, Somerset in Michigan, International Plaza in Tampa, and the like. When I see the word galleria, I expect a mixture of high end and low end stores. I like having the Ann Taylors next to the Kate Spades, the Banana Republic next to the Tory Burches. This is a mall of mainly lower end stores. Yes there is a Michael Kors and a Coach, but it is never good when they look out of place, which they do here. I also wish there were better restaurants around the area. At Summit there is the nicer restaurants, like Seasons 52, and more affordable yet still nice ones, like Macaroni Grill. At Brookwood Village they even have a nice outdoor eating place. There is no cluster of nice eateries here. I understand that if you were born and raised here there would be nostalgia associated with this place. My fiance, who used to live in Alabama in 1998 remembers this as the only large shopping area (obviously no longer the case). However, if you are coming here from out of town like I am, I would direct you to the Summit and wouldn't waste your time coming here. read more

DON'T EAT AT DESSERT CORNER (in the food court)! THE OWNER "Pony Tail" I call him (maybe the manager, but I doubt it) IS CHEAP, RUDE, and MAKES SMALL CHILDREN CRY AND COULD CARE LESS! So, I go to Dessert Corner and order a smoothie for my son and I. Next thing you know this worker (older gray/ white haired pony tail dude probably in his 60s with a white hat on) calls my son (3 years old) and I over there to him as we wait for my smoothie, and I'm guessing he's the owner (maybe the manager). So he starts pointing to the ice cream and he's asking my son "which do you want!" all super nice INITIALLY. So, of course, my son proceeded to tell him what he wanted and the man starts to make it. I thought this man was just super nice and giving my son a little cup of ice cream for free. So, as my son tells him what he wants, I go over to the guy who is working the cash register (younger guy, medium toned skin, clean line up, ears pierced, I'm guessing he has a Latino ethnicity) and I ask him "Wow, is he just giving my son this for free? He's so nice" and the guy looks at the owner/ pony tail dude and asks him. Pony tail looks at us and he's like "for FREE?!". And his attitude completely changed. Mr. Nice Pony Tail guy was gone and Evil Pony Tail came out. He looks at my 3 YEAR OLD SON (AFTER making the ice cream MY SON PICKED OUT AND HE WANTED and threw it IN THE TRASH) so of course my son starts crying. I look at this man like "are you kidding me?". He asked my baby to pick an ice cream and throws it in the trash... like if he wasn't going to eat it or give it to another customer then he could've at least given it to my child waiting there for it. So I go back over to the other younger dude at the cash register and I'm like "Is he serious? That's so messed up". And the dude says "I know, but there's nothing I can do about it, he's my boss". So clearly I knew I wasn't in the wrong. So conclusion- Pony Tail is an cheap a**hole who needs to be beat up for making little children cry and not giving a F*** about the customers at ALL, but about the money ONLY. Oh yeah and not to mention, after he threw away the whole cone of ice cream, he has the audacity to hand my son a SAMPLE of that flavor on those tiny spoons they have... not like he could've just given him the ice cream he already made for him instead of throwing it away... Pony Tail at Desserts Corner at Riverchase Galleria Mall in Hoover, Alabama needs to get his life together and learn to be nice, especially to small children. Oh, and one other thing, he needs to get his attitude in check. He tried to blame it on ME because my son walked up and told him what ice cream he wanted when HE'S the one who asked (I initially just thought he was being super nice and was just going to give him a tiny scoop in a cone). This place is just a cluster of every store you can think of. It has plenty of range and ample parking which are 2 big positives for a mall. However the traffic is a nightmare be prepared to take a chill pill before going. The food court stinks no where near enough options or seating. This is a decent mall, largest around. You can find almost anything you would need here. This is where i mention that i moved from Atlanta..... Needs an FYE and a few other national chain stores, but will do in a pinch :) Parking is decent, traffic around the mall is not bad as well. read more

Holy smokes! Another late review! What can I say about this place? It's considered the largest indoor shopping center in Alabama, apparently. And it is pretty huge! This place is bordered by several restaurants and stores, including the Olive Garden and Costco. All of the surrounding businesses are within walking distance, but getting across the road is another story! Inside, this place is nice and clean and has a number of stores we don't have in Hawaii. I did not know what Belk was, for instance, and was able to reminisce after walking into the JC Penney store there! They also had numerous food places we don't have in Hawaii, which made this shopping experience pretty nice! My first impression of this place was it looked like Windward Mall, but about 4 times the size. Same type of design with stores both upstairs and downstairs. There were several Anchor stores, which included JCPenney, Macy's and Belk, along with several other big name stores. https://www.riverchasegalleria.com/en/shopping/sales/list/allsales.html I spent most of my time in JCPenney and noticed that the customers here (at the mall) were very pushy and rude. The Employees, in all of the businesses, were all very friendly and patient. I'm not sure if they're used to getting attitude from customers, but it seemed that way to me. You could literally spend the entire day in this enclosed, air-conditioned mall, if you didn't have anything else to do. Plenty of free parking in the huge lot surrounding the Galleria. And entrances and exits available from all sides as well. Overall, I loved being able to visit the Riverchase Galleria and wished I had more time to go back. In the 4 hours I spent there, I did not have time to visit all of the stores inside, but I will (hopefully) be back! read more

This place is a well loved local shopping hub. Great place to pop in when im in a full mood shopping mode.
