We enjoyed Costa on our last night in Charleston. It is a beautiful restaurant with great food, great service and great vibe. The decor is exceptional as is the menu and service. And the open kitchen is magnificent. We had the pleasure of meeting the GM, AGM, Sommelier and of course our wonderful server and all provided exceptional and authentic hospitality. We enjoyed the anchovy toast (a special), tortelli, swordfish and the chicken and all were delicious. We shared the chocolate beignet which amazing and huge! We had some fantastic meals in Charleston and Costa stood out as it was original and represented fare inspired by some of our favorite areas in Italy. read more

Costa is located in the Jasper building overlooking the water on Broad St. It's absolutely beautiful and boasts a modern take on Italian food and will absolutely knock your socks off. Upon arriving, you're greeted by the hostess and fully stocked bar. I recommend getting reservations because they are booked up. This is a hot new restaurant in town and they know how to treat you! I started off with a refreshing Vivaldi cocktail and our server gave us a great explanation the menu. We decided to order the scallop crudo, brooks focaccia, black truffle Mac n cheese, chicken porchettato, burrata, pecorino ravioli, and candele. Each dish was unique and amazing, but our favorites were the chicken, black truffle Mac, and the crudo. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. For dessert we got lemon tiramisu and can easily be split two ways. We also got the almond polenta cake and that was so scrumptious. The food was not on par for the price, service was wonderful and it's a beautiful restaurant, however, the food was not good quality and did not taste worth even half the price of each dish. The ravioli literally taste like my favorite lean cuisine, a $5 meal that's more filling than the one offered here. Again, service was great and it's a beautiful restaurant, but this is not worth the prices at all. There are so many restaurants in Charleston and surrounding areas that are worth a higher price point but this is not one of them. Based on reviews I was very excited to try this place and it didn't hold up to any of them. I'd recommend the lean cuisine aisle for the same flavors for a tiny fraction of the price. read more

Date night at Costa. Parking was a bit weird - signs suggested we had to pay at the garage (no street parking) but didn't work. Hostess shared there's no charge yet, so that was good. Walking to the restaurant was a bit of a maze with no back (inside) entrance so we were a bit soggy upon entry. We were sat on the balcony at a little booth which was nice- great view of the water and stormy palm trees (soon to be replaced by a high rise of condos, but nice while it lasts!). The noise level was pretty high- the place was packed so perhaps it'll be quieter during off times? Ambience is FULL ON mid century - felt like a 50s cruise ship with ceiling to floor brown velvet curtains. We split the hamachi crudo, the tuna, the carpaccio, the burrata, the tarvin shrimp and the crispy potatoes. All small dishes except the potatoes (a side, with whipped cheese dip!). The fish plates were good- tuna came close to Chubby Fish grade (my five star go to absolute favorite restaurant), but the shrimp came without warning- it was peel and eat with the heads on. They are covered in a yummy sauce but even though they brought little wet naps for cleanup, I wasn't into it and we only had two. They were lacking flavor and I'm not into removing the heads of my meals :) Burrata was my second fav plate. The somm was very helpful picking out a great Gamay and overall the service was really good. Polite, didn't rush us, didn't push us to order entrees, etc. While Sorelle remains the unseated Italian champion in my book, I'd say this is in the top 5 of Charleston's Italian options. read more

I was lucky enough to dine at Costa the other day and I haven't been able to stop thinking about my meal ever since. Here's why: The decor, ambiance, and overall vibe of the restaurant is simple, stylish and classy. It gives you an elevated California-style Italian restaurant feel. It's located right off the water in a new building group on Broad street but you feel transported to another state or country. The staff was incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable. There was always someone close by and all were extremely attentive. The kitchen is open to the entire restaurant so you always know what's going on. The plates, glasses, and overall color scheme is all stunning. The food really deserves all the praise it has been receiving. I came with my fellow "foodie" friend and we tried a little bit of everything. The scallop crudo was light, fresh, sweet and smooth. Fresh scallops chopped with avocado, lime and a passion fruit sauce. The perfect bite. The oysters were large, smooth, and rather than a lemon to squeeze, they give a tomato with basil. How unique! It had almost a caprese salad feel to something otherwise simply salty and acidic. The burrata is a must. I understand it changes every so often, but we were lucky enough to have the strawberry mix on sourdough and we added caviar and topped with chili oil. One of the most delectable things I've had. Sweet strawberries on top of lightly toasted, thick cut sourdough with a plump, fresh ball of burrata and salty caviar. Drizzle the chili oil and you have a full bite of umami. If you like beets, the beet salad was fantastic. Diced up beets with pine nuts, dried cherries and Gorgonzola dolce sauce. So light and fresh! For the main courses we got the beef cheek tortelli, which was my favorite bite of the evening. Soft, homemade pasta stuffed with slow roasted beef that melts in your mouth. An amazing bone marrow gremolata is drizzled over with some bites of braised octopus. A must get. The swordfish was the final dish to our meal. Two perfectly cooked filets over a smooth carrot puree and brown butter sauce. Fresh, delicate and well-rounded flavors make this dish a delectable bite. For dessert we opted for the almond polenta cake. A soft polenta cake topped with almond brittle and homemade ice cream. The perfect ending to a delicious meal as it wasn't too rich or sweet. For drinks we got a seasonal cocktail with gin and strawberry liquor which was delicious as well as the Vespa, which was in my opinion a play on a classic martini. It had gin, vodka, vermouth, and a salty brine finished with Calabrian chili oil. A very unique, delicious beverage. With dessert we each got a tiramisu espresso martini, which was one of my favorite espresso martini's I've had. This restaurant did not miss on any aspect. The staff were attentive, the food was phenomenal and flavorful and the building was open, airy and inviting. I highly recommend Costa and can't wait to go back! read more

My husband and I were seated along the long banquette right beside a 50-something birthday celebration of 4 women. They were very loud and sorry but annoying. Not Costa's fault. We should have asked to move. But it was difficult to overcome. I ordered a glass of wine. The waiter was kind enough to bring the bottle out to pour it and let me sample it first. Loved that. He the went on to tell us the specials and his recommendations and that entrees are family sized. I was torn between the eggplant (which I had had before, and the serving was huge) and the ravioli. I went with the ravioli. My husband ordered the swordfish. We split a whipped ricotta with focaccia appetizer. The appetizer, while small, was pretty good. Then our main course came. My husband's swordfish was the smallest piece of swordfish I have ever seen. When the ravioli entree was placed infront of me, it was anything but family style. A small bowl of the tiniest ravioli. I think there might have been 8 tiny raviolis. When the food runner placed them infront of me he recommended that I eat them in one bite. I can see why. I figured they were around $3.50 apiece. They were just okay Sorry but over priced. We had planned on having dessert and drinks after dinner, but between the party next to us and the disappointment in our entrees, we just got the check and went on to the James in John's Island. . Probably should've started there to begin with and saved some money. So many more reasonably priced Italian restaurants in the Charleston area. Indaco, Mondo's, Wild Olive, and Savi to name a few. My wife and I came here via Resy for our anniversary. Parking is free in The Jasper parking garage after 5pm, or on the street if you can find a spot. We were seated in the elevated area at a small table for two. The location is brand now and everything is crisp and clean. Service was spot on, and we were seen multiple times by the waiter, sommelier, and manager. I love the open kitchen setup and being able to watch the chef and his team work their magic. Our meal started off with a burrata, followed by broccolini, crispy potatoes, pork Milanese, beef cheek tortelli, and cocktails. I ordered the old fashioned and it was made very well. The drunken cherries were a nice finish. For dessert I had the polenta cake and my wife had the classic tiramisu. They also have a lemon tiramisu, but we're all about the classics. As for pricing. This is a high end restaurant in a high end residential building. You're going to get what you pay for, and the craftsmanship shows through. They hired a solid staff to prepare the best food for their guests. This isn't your once a week, take the family out for a large plate of food style restaurant. The ambience is great - open kitchen concept but still a very elevated but comfortable feel. The portions are on the smaller side, so be prepared to order several apps, entrees, etc. My favorite app was the Raw Red Shrimp, the lemon sorbet is very tart but blends well with the Calabrian chili. The Mozzarella In Carrozza was not my favorite presentation of caviar, the mozzarella could almost be its own dish it overwhelms the caviar a bit. But the Cacio e Pepe special was delicious, the pasta was fresh and the pepper flavor was not overwhelming at all! The Swordfish was also wonderful. The staff is all very warm and welcoming, and very attentive. Will definitely be going back! read more

Costa was an incredible dining experience. We had Dominic as our server. He was well-versed in the entire menu and answered all of our questions with ease. Our star dish was the crispy potatoes with fondue. Our server easily sold us on the caviar service, which was also fabulous. Our other dishes included the beef carpaccio (INCREDIBLE), scallop crudo (loved me by me, not so much by my partner), pecorino ravioli, chicken alla griglia, halibut oregenata, delicata squash, and the almond polenta desert. All of it truly impressed us and we will DEFINITELY be back. Something about these potato's sent both me and my dining partner over the moon. As far as the vibes, the restaurant has low light which gives it a very romantic and Italian feel. The housemade gin is to die for. Make sure to try the tiramisu espresso martini and the Amalfitano if you're getting cocktails. Great job to all of the Costa staff. read more

Elegant nautical decor. Very tastefully done. Beautiful views of the water and sunset. Had really dinner reservations so we were able to enjoy the beautiful pink sky as the sun went down. Complimentary valet parking was a big plus, very convenient. I was a little hesitant to come here as Zero George (their other restaurant) is not one of my favorites but this place did not disappoint! It is rare that i give 5 stars since I feel that there is usually some room for improvement but I feel that Costa earned it. Everything was top notch, every detail addressed. Prices were steep but in line with other Charleston restaurants. Service was exceptional without being stuffy. There was no bread service, which I always miss, especially at Italian restaurants but you did have the option of ordering foccacia for $8 which we did not. Our server told us that most of the items in the menu were meant to be shared with the exception of the entrees, which were slightly larger. We started with the tuna crudo which our server recommended. It was served in a light, tangy aiolo that tasted more like mustard and vinegar rather than mayo but paired exceptionally well with the tuna. It was served over potato chips, which also paired very well. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture and this was eaten very quickly! The menu didn't indicate this was a crudo so I wouldn't normally have ordered this but glad that it was pointed out as we thoroughly enjoyed it. Next, we ordered the burrata. This was also perfection served over bread and a squash puree and a chili oil on the side. This is the first time I have ever had burrata that I didn't need to add salt. The flavors were incredible! For my entree, I ordered the eggplant parm based on some reviews I had read. I'm a sucker for a good eggplant dish. This is the one item I would not order again, it was way too saucy for my taste. I felt it overpowered the eggplant. It was a huge portion but I really had to work to find the eggplant under the sauce. Delicious sauce but not for me. I should mention that my husband thought it was delicious so this is just a personal taste thing, but a criticism of the chef. My husband ordered the chicken porchettato which was most and flavorful. According to the server, this was a mix of white and dark meat with skin served on a bone cooked Sous vide. I'm not a fan of white meat but if consider ordering this dish next time, it was excellent. It was served with a side of a light, tasty gravy made from the chicken drippings. Lastly, we ordered a side of brocollini, charred with parmesan cheese, a tasty accompaniment to the chicken. We passed on dessert as there was nothing calling us, probably because we were so full! Bathrooms were individual, private and nicely done. Overall, a great dinner! read more

The family style was shocking to me upscale restaurant family style don't actually go together ...we tried to sit and relax and just order an appetizer and we were told we have to order the entire meal... I think I should've ordered dessert at the same time and asked for the check that way there we could be shuffled out even faster.....,... beef Capacio somewhat tasteless, with carrots, celery, onions ?? Caesar salad was great, but let's face it. It's lettuce.... I got the seafood stuffed mushrooms. The only problem with it was the mushrooms weren't stuffed at all, and there was some gross sauce and I guess there was some crab in. It couldn't really tell..... we got the duck to share?? Fairly confident I could've eaten the whole thing in three bites... Had wine glass of wine, which is very unusual. I couldn't bring myself to have another glass of wine with the maybe 3.5 ounce pour..... it wasn't that crowded and extremely loud. Clearly the architect did a great job but knows nothing about sound control ....definitely won't be back. read more

The restaurant has a very modern open feel, which is refreshing for Charleston. Great lively atmosphere. The food was excellent even though the pasta was a little chewy. Prawns, tuna, pasta special and the chicken. It's not inexpensive and serving sizes aren't huge so you do need a starter and main if you're hungry. Absolutely superb in every way. We could not get a reservation so we decided to sit at the bar. The vodka gimlet was the best that I had ever experienced. The restaurant is beautiful, with soft lights that are flattering without being too dark. I had the candele with anchovy that was outstanding. My companion had the pecorino ravioli that was perfect. Tonight we celebrated my father's 90th birthday. A friend recommended it to us. Each small plate was incredibly tasty and well balanced. The portions are very small but very good. The scallops crudi was extra nice. They made me a risotto dish and it was tasty but wish it was a bit more unique. It's a great place to come and share dishes. We had a lovely dinner at this beautiful restaurant. The ambiance and service were impeccable and the food was beyond delicious. The swordfish, chicken, and pork were amazing. The show stealer was the eggplant parmesian! A "must" order. Oh and the potato sticks! We are staying at the Zero George hotel (another "must" if you want a 5 star experience in Charleston) and the owners of the Zero George also own Costa.
