This old school Greek Diner in Defiance is a worthwhile stop for a very good meal. Located in an east side commercial area in a standalone building on the corner of a strip plaza, it's not difficult to find. The exterior looks nice enough and the spacious interior is comfortable and pleasant though not elaborate. We were seated right away and our server attended to us quickly. She did a very good job during our entire visit as she was efficient and attentive but not intrusive. We had our 3-year-old granddaughter with us and they were able to accommodate her with no problem, which was greatly appreciated. The menu offered plenty of options. They seemed at the core to be a Greek Diner with several characteristic offerings you'd expect from such a place. But they also featured plenty of American Midwest-style comfort food as well. My wife tried the Beef and Noodles special that took us back to the type of thing we ate as kids. She ordered that in part because it was something our granddaughter would eat, but she also enjoyed it as well given her proclivities toward such dishes. I opted for the Greek portion of their menu with a Famous Gyro Salad. It was also a very solid choice with good Gyro meat and fresh vegetables accompanied by equally fresh pita. It was all very good. I'll also note that the coffee was decent, which I can't always say for these types of diners. The prices were very reasonable. Overall with food, drinks, tax and tip, we were able to stay at about $14 - $15 per adult. This is not bad at all for dinner by today's standards and I was quite happy with the value. My husband and I went for the All you can eat fish tonight. Our fish was cold as if it had been sitting for at least a half hour. Our baked potatoes were cold. Mine was even worse than my husband. It was brown on the inside. I took a couple bites and I couldn`t eat any more of it. Our server asked if we wanted a reorder and I told her if the fish is going to be hot because ours was cold. She brought us out more fish and said, "This is hot because I watched them take it out of the fryer". It tasted like the frying oil needed to be changed. By the time we got home I wound up vomiting it all up. Needless to say, we will never go back to Cosmos. The cashier did give us discount, but it still didn`t make up for the bad food. read more

I ordered the senior meatloaf with two sides for $9.85. My wife had the strawberry crepe. I had a salad with French dressing and chicken noodle soup. My meatloaf dinner included green beans and mashed potatoes. I was amazed at how large my side salad was and how fresh the lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes were. We were driving through on a road trip and decided that this should be a good place for lunch. A small college town with the river running through it... Seemed like a good setting. The downtown area looked pretty nice but all the restaurants were closed on that particular Sunday. Not sure if that is a normal thing or not but this was a sign to consult Yelp! Cosmos is a little outside of the downtown area but got good reviews. Seems like the go-to place for the locals, a restaurant that has been a favorite across several generations. Frankly most of the folks there had more grey hair than we do but everyone seemed to be having a good time. With a wide variety of choices, from all-day breakfast to comfort food entrees to greek food, it would be hard to find something appealing. We each found a few things that caught our fancy and both settled on breakfast, a skillet for me and biscuits and gravy for my wife. AMPLE amount of food at AMAZINGLY good prices. The most affordable meal we have had in months, and we were stuffed. With prices that good, it was easy to give an extra good tip! Cosmos is really really not good. This has to be one of those restaurants that exists solely from the older crowd that continues coming back simply due to going there because they always have. This is really solidified by the fact you can hear orders being taken from more elderly gentlemen with "the usual?" and such. This is a place that exists solely for the demographic that has nostalgia for it and a place that, to them, is a comfortable familiar location to relax because of being there so many times in their youth. That kind of place is totally fine, but if that description does not fit you, you should avoid it. The single positive I can give them, and it is easy to do, is the staff; everyone was really nice. Though sometimes it was a bit awkward...like running into one of the cooks who had just gone to the bathroom (the longer type) and having him explain how their old mostly-broken hand dryer worked because I couldn't get it to turn on...and then going to prepare my food. But, again, he was nice, it just isn't what you want to have happen when you're about to eat. Where do I begin? The stuffed pepper tasted like leather. So much salt, peppa' would be jealous. The gyro was probably made in Greece last week and took this long to get here. This is the most extensive menu I've ever seen. Almost anything you could possibly want to eat is an option. It's got a 'home town' vibe. This place will not allow you to leave hungry. Huge servings! If you order 1 egg, you get 2, and the pancakes melt in your mouth! I love the turkey, dressing special! I am a local and this place is a solid place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Breakfasts are HUGE portions. The skillets are a favorite in my family. You could feed two people on one breakfast sometimes. You can get pancakes with some and the pancakes are fluffy and tender. There are daily specials. All sandwiches come with soup (a bowl not a cup). This is homemade soup...delicious. They have a good Ruben, club, and gyro. Yes...GREEK food here is authentic. He owner is Greek and this gyro is one awesome fresh sandwich. They have a "tour of Greece" plate that is really good. Ok, even the lasagna is good; better than some Italian restaurants. Did I mention they make breakfast all day? Crepes are delicious and stuffed with yumminess. They also make homemade in house rice pudding that is really good. See a theme? You really can't go wrong by stopping at this place. It's an odd looking building but don't let that make you drive by. Coffee is good and hot. The only thing we don't care for is the rolls that come out with the soup. They do a lot of comfort food plates like roast pork and mashed potatoes (yes homemade), meatloaf, beef Manhattan. My favorite local place to go in Defiance. This place is a general restaurant with a Greek specialty. For an area like Defiance, they have some pretty varied options. As far as I know, it's the only place to get a gyro in Defiance. The gyro meat is good and usually a little bit crispy. The tzatki is good but a little bit on the bland side for my garlicky Italian tastes. I've never gotten anything but the gyro, gyro omelet, or gyro platter, but all were very good amounts of food. Their lemon rice soup is thick and not bad. They have a very large menu, and I remember being interested in a breakfast chorizo skillet. They have specials for seniors and daily specials. Menu reads: meat lovers.... here is the problem, all the meat in it couldn't have equaled 1 piece of bacon. Then as I was paying I was asked if everything was good.
