It may be tricky to find but you'll be delighted once your experience begins. Aesthetically warm and cozy, delicious food and a fabulous server- Tommy. We have some food sensitivities and he was so accommodating. Donna came over to check on us as well. We had roasted cauliflower which was cooked so perfectly that I ate the stalk, Bronzino that was decadent and luscious lamb chops. Fan of sorbet? Let me tell you that this was the best sorbet I've had, pretty much ever. It was blood orange, blueberry basil. Mic drop. It was that amazing. Make your rez... read more

Wonderful spot and beautiful architecture. Unfortunately, the food is overpriced and mediocre. And, the service was subpar on the evening we attended - 15 minutes at bar before dinner and no service; 15 minutes until we were asked about drinks once we got to the table; appetizers came to table before drinks arrived; and when drinks finally arrived, order was partially incorrect. Overall, a disappointing experience. read more

We went for Mother's day brunch and apparently it was only the 2nd time they'd done brunch. It was $50 prix fixe with one drink (mimosa or bloody mary) included - $35 for a child which was a bit much I thought. The food was all excellent (the candied bacon pizza and gnocchi were the best). The service was good - a bit slow but ok. The rules were a bit strange. First, they refused to substitute a beer for the included cocktail which is strange because the beer was cheaper ($7 vs $12 for cocktail). Next, their menu said they would serve bread and pastries with the meal but it never came, so when we asked for it, the server explained that it was a printing mistake and it was supposed to be one of the first courses but since it could be a misunderstanding, they would bring it for us - thought that was strange. Now that it was printed incorrectly, that explanation was unnecessary - they should have just brought out the bread - can't skimp on that when it is supposed to be a high-end $$$ restaurant. Oh well. I'd go back to try dinner given how delicious brunch was. read more

Great menu and cool setting. However, especially for these prices, the service needs to be much better. Four of us liked very much or loved everything we each ordered. The downside was that the server was under- trained and perhaps stretched too thin. Please Cosima, manage the restaurant better so your wonderful food is matched by the staff! Our server knew nothing about the wines and read from notes, which was not even descriptive enough to be helpful. They did give us tastes, which helped us choose. No opportunity to order cocktails for 20 minutes and they didn't come until we were almost done the appetizer. Not ok, especially for this caliber of restaurant. We spent $75 per person. I'm not being snooty - just want decent, sharp service. I'm coming back either way because of food, but would love service to match the food. read more

I was very excited to try out the new Cosima at Mill No. 1. The four of us sat at the communal high top table back behind the bar which was fine and we were able to hear each other very well. The restaurant was buzzing the whole two hours we were there - nice open kitchen concept. The space is just gorgeous. For appetizers we had the Fritto Misto which is basically just fried calamari - nothing super special, the Polpette which was amazing!, the Gnocchi which I think was the tables favorite and the involtini which was a little bit less flavorful. For dinner my husband and I had the casarecce - very small portion which was a surprise but nice and fresh, we didn't leave feeling super stuffed. For dessert we had the crostada and the donuts which were both fantastic. Will definitely come back and try to sit at the bar. For 4 people it was not inexpensive but we also had 2 bottles of wine :-) Enjoy! read more

Cool space tucked into the beautiful Mill 1 apartment complex. Good luck with parking if you do not use valet and see warning about steep driveway if you take your Ferrari instead of your Jeep. Food was creative, very good but not great. I did not have pasta, had grilled octopus and swordfish. Very attentive and knowledgeable service. Non pasta entrees are a bit pricey (~$35). I like the concept of Sicilian theme. Thoughtful wine list focusing on wines from Sicily (these can be very good and good values); many priced at $35-45/bottle (good) but marked up 2-3X retail (bad). No wine list on website so you can't research selections ahead. I was told it would be too confusing to diners since these are unusual wines (a bit snotty reply if you ask me). read more

Came to the restaurant in a party of four. We ordered the cured meat and cheese plater, the grilled baby octopus, and meatball as appetizers. We really enjoyed the cured meat plater. I ordered the Cuscusu Alla Trapanese (seafood in tomato fennel broth over couscous) and my boyfriend got the Ragu Di Cinghiale (boar and ground polenta) - We both agree that the entrees are underwhelming and overpriced. My entree was EXTREMELY bland and tasteless - something was obviously lacking but it was not salt. (Trust me I'm not a picky person or a person who loves salty food) meanwhile, I bit into two giant pieces of black papers which in fact did not make the food taste better... My boyfriend's ground polenta was undercooked and the boar lacked of seasoning. Both me and my boyfriend agreed that the entrees came out underwhelming. I regretted not getting the pork belly since pork belly is good no matter how you prepare it.On the bright side, we did enjoy the appetizers. But, how hard is it to mess up some meatballs? And the cheese and cured meat aren't probably housemade... read more

Very good Italian restaurant. The location is a little hard to find (go down the hill the valet sign points to) but the trouble is well worth it. Even in the dark the location was stunning. They initially sat us in the back but graciously moved us to the action. This allowed me and the fiancé (formerly know as the girlfriend) to enjoy watching all the different dishes come out of the open kitchen. We ordered a tone of dishes from the large menu and enjoyed one of the many reasonably priced wines. Some standout dishes were the plain pizza (actual dough slightly to flimsy but garlic is amazing) the poached pare and the gnocchi (tasted like Italian mac and cheese). The arrancini was technically perfect but I didn't love the taste. That said the pesto underneath was stupendous. The tuna crudo was disappointing but did feature extremely fresh fish. We got the vegetarian cavatelli pasta and it was delicious but we were so full that we took most of it home. Still we were celebrating my birthday so we had to get desert. One word: gelato. Get it! In particular the chocolate is amazing!!! read more

Fantastic setting in the boiler room of Mill No. 1 with a large patio. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food however was just average and one dish was sent back. The grilled Bronzino was cooked perfectly but had a somewhat strong fish flavor. Lobster pasta dish was very good. Unfortunately, someone had the risotto which was inedible (over powering seasoning). Manager was very accommodating and actually tasted the dish and suggested he try another entrée. The seafood couscous ordered was flavorful but was floating in the tomato-fennel sauce. The mussels were strong and detracted from an otherwise decent replacement meal. Willing to go back for a second chance, but the cuisine needs to be on point. read more

Totally wonderful dinner in a seriously gorgeous place. The setting is beautiful - the refurbished mill interior is a stunner. Both beautiful and extremely comfortable. My dinner was superb. I love Sicilian food and the arancini appetizer was excellent. My main course was a meat loaf with a spicy tomato sauce that was absolutely delicious, albeit way too much food for one meal. I will look forward to returning soon. read more

Great venue, good apps, and tasty drinks. The entrees left a little bit to be desired, especially for the price. Desserts were just ok.

Visited here with a group of ten. I loved the way that the restaurant looked, but can't say much for the noise level, wait staff, and the taste of the food. Our bill was about $700 for ten of us. There were some interesting menu choices and each of us got something different. Would return in the future with a smaller group read more

Dined there for first time last night with 2 friends. The restaurant is really beautiful. Modern industrial with high ceilings, exposed brick walls with some plants. Had about 20 min wait at the bar before we were seated. The spritz was very good! We shared the arancini & burrata apps. Both were very good. My entree was mussels, shrimp, swordfish & calamari with tomato couscous-really delicious. I would certainly recommend. Friends had the meatloaf and other a pasta dish with tomato & cheese. They both enjoyed them as well. They had cannoli and cheese cake for dessert-no complaints there either. Donna stopped by to ask how our meal was so that was a pleasant surprise. I will certainly be back & would like to return when it's warmer to enjoy their patio seating! read more

From the minute we walked into Cosima we knew we were somewhere special. Not only is the restaurant beautiful, but the food and service are both extraordinary. My wife was unfamiliar with the Italian wines so Kevin, our waiter, made recommendations and gave her two tastings to help with her choice. The flavors and presentation are wonderful. I would make a special trip just for the homemade donuts coated with cinnamon sugar! read more

Had a special occasion dinner, and everything was done perfectly. The food was cooked extremely well, and the cocktail program was delightful. Dessert was good, but not the highlight of the meal. Loved the squid ink pasta - great texture! Interesting amaro for post dinner drinks. We will definitely be going back. read more

Breathtaking interior, love the patio overlooking the water. The food is fresh, authentic and so flavorful. Definitely a go-to for special occasions. read more

Excellent and friendly service. Some minor mistakes on an order, which they fixed immediately and treated us like kings. The porchetta was ridiculously good and a scallop appetizer that was on special shined. Interior is outstanding. Well worth the price and a nice addition to the Baltimore restaurant scene. Can't wait to visit again. read more

Such a nice time last night here celebrating our Anniversary. I was hesitant to choose this place after some reviews talked about how loud and cramped the place was. I didn't find it loud nor cramped and thought it was a nice setting to celebrate our anniversary. Our waiter Kevin was friendly, helpful and attentive. As well as the other staff that recommended wine, which was fabulous. They gave us a complimentary dessert and Apéritif, which made us feel special on our day. I got the meatloaf and Brussels sprouts and it was delicious. A little spicier than I thought it would be to keep in mind, but still good. I'm happy that we live within walking distance and will definitely be back. read more

Beautiful, spacious restaurant, attentive service. A small menu but had enough choices of small and large plates, pizza was delicious and so was their seafood dish over couscous. You must try the espresso gelato! Great dinner but not cheap read more

Five Star Food and service. Have been here twice now and have enjoyed both visits. Great ambience and space. Would highly recommend the octopus and the lobster with homemade pasta. read more

Had a wonderful meal! Highlights included: Swordfish crudo, Ricotta gnocchi, Pizza with smoked scallops, Pasta alla carattiera, and Pollo all spiedo. The waitstaff are terrific and the selection of Sicilian wines is unmatched in Baltimore. read more

I can't possibly rave enough about this place. It was our first time here, and the food was OUTSTANDING. I'm already planning the next trip back! We are both foodies, so Cosima was perfect. The ingredients and flavors were new and interesting, but the overall dishes were uncomplicated, unpretentious, and beautiful; always a great mix! Restaurant was quiet (it was relatively early- 5:30pm), and decor was really simple and beautiful. The waiter was very informative about the menu and wine list, especially helpful considering they use a lot of authentic Sicilian ingredients. We had two standout dishes that I have not stopped telling everyone about- the Caponata ( cold sicilian eggplant salad with panelle and chick pea fritters), which officially became one of the best dishes I've ever had; and PIZZA CAPE SANTE E PANCETTA (smoked baby scallops, smoked mozzarella, basil, carmelized bacon and onion on a wood fired pizza). The pizza was life-changing and I can't wait to order again! Overall, excellent experience and definitely in the running to become my favorite restaurant in Baltimore! read more

After four times at Cosima (twice at a table and twice at the bar), I have to say that I'm not impressed. The cocktail service is good and the bartenders are engaged but the food is uninspired. The simple cheese pizza comes served with whole cherry tomatoes rolling around on it. Pick it up with your hand and they roll off or you can attack it a fork and knife and get squirted with hot tomato juice. The seafood risotto is not a creamy starchy delight but, more like paella. The table service is disinterest and more like a diner service. You have to ask to have empty glasses removed and flag down waiters to ask for a glass of wine with your meal. The staff does not know the nature of the wines on the list--just the ones they have tasted. The butternut squash was mediocre and pasty. It seems that the thing to get is fish or meat entrees--which is too bad if you are looking for a lighter meal. But, in all fairness my table mates had compliments for their meatier dishes. Still, everything should be better at this price point. read more

Over-priced. Their wine list is trying too hard to be cool-they don't offer Chardonnay or Cabs. In addition, the food is completely sub-par. They have this caulliflower dish that looks like someone burned it and slapped it onto a plate. Their salads had barely any taste to them and their appetizers were less than average. Aesthetically speaking, it's beautiful. But if you care like I do, about dropping $100 between two people for three appetizers and a couple of glasses of wine, then I'd go someplace else. read more

Came in on a weeknight and the rustic, peaceful atmosphere was great for me and my girlfriend. She got the pizza of the day and I got the swordfish, both excellently prepared dishes. Our server, I think his name was Zach, was highly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to make this a complete dining experience. He reviewed several of the popular menu choices with us and did not steer us wrong with his wine selection. We will definitely be back. All around great atmosphere, service and food. read more

We live literally up the hill from Mill 1 so we had a quick walk down to the restaurant. The space is amazing architecturally. Beautiful exposed brick and repurposed wood tables. Excellent ambiance, minus the fact that the was no music or candles on the tables, at least in the upstairs area where we were seated. The food sounded completely amazing, but didn't ultimately live up to our expectations. I had the Involtini Di Melanzane (eggplant with ricotta and marinara)--which I recommend--and the charcuterie plate. Both were tasty but not overly impressive. My friends had the Pasta alla Norma and the Ragu Di Maiale Brasato, both of which were satisfying but seemed a bit pricey. Our waiter left something to be desired. He seemed to be in the weeds (it was a busy Saturday night), neglecting to refill our water, take away dirty plates or offer us fresh ground pepper. We skipped dessert because it literally seemed like our waiter didn't want us to order anything. Overall, ok experience. If you sit upstairs, you might need to use the flashlight app on your phone to read the menu. We might go back and try the cocktails. read more

Great place. We got the steak, bronzini, and the rabbit. Both the steak and bronzini were delicious. I have ordered the rabbit and found it pretty unexciting. We are definitely going to go there again, but I am not going to order the rabbit! read more

We went during restaurant week. Two of us ordered from the restaurant week menu and one from the regular menu. Pros for this place were the restaurant itself and the waitstaff. Absolutely beautiful converted mill space with an outdoor seating area overlooking the Jones Falls. Gorgeous. Would be wonderful for a date or special occasion. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. I had a ginger beer cocktail before dinner that was really nice and refreshing. The caponata starter, served cold, was really tasty. We also split the ricotta gnocchi, which was comforting, cheesy and yummy, although the gnocchi itself was super heavy. My entree, off the RW menu, was smoked risotto with saffron, lobster and shrimp. There wasn't any lobster to be seen. There were a few, bland, large shrimp that were well cooked, and a bunch of really tiny little salad shrimp, which was odd. The dish was almost inedible due to the amount of smoke flavor. I'm a huge fan of anything smoked, but this was completely overwhelming and unpleasant. Despite the bombastic smoke flavor, the dish was also super bland and under-seasoned. I could only get through a third of it. I had a bite of my friend's ravioli, from the regular menu, and it was also bland and under-seasoned. We sat near the door to the patio area, and I noticed unusually large amounts of uneaten food being returned to the kitchen when plates were cleared. Get it together, Donna. For dessert I had tiramisu, which was fine. My friend got chocolate panna cotta with a dark cherry syrup that was phenomenal. Despite the disappointing food I will probably go back just to enjoy the outdoor space, but will probably stick to drinks and caponata. read more

It's the little things that prevented me from a higher rating for Cosina. Most importantly, our waiter, who really seemed in a hurry to turn our table, an 8:30 seating, despite his protestations that he "was not rushing us"; a small french press with the pouring spout turned backward so that had I not noticed the coffee would have spilled in my lap; the adjacent table waiting for someone to come and open their sparkling wine/champagne; and being seated in an "alcove" area when there were tables available up front. IMHO their website could be improved by adding some better pictures of the restaurant. Also, a little thing in that the "coat room", really an alcove, with hangers and hooks, needs a door - it looked as if someone rolled a hand grenade in there and it did not befit the upscale appearance of the restaurant. This establishment is really much larger than what appears on the website. Anyway, we thought our food was good. I thought everything could have been a little hotter. Arancini came three to a serving shared equally among the three of us. I had Insalata Di Arance, which was a small salad but good, especially the "blood" oranges which you don't frequently see in a serving. Two of us shared a "special pizza" which was essentially a white, vegetarian pizza, and a decent size for smaller appetites. I had Pasta Alla Norma which was good, a decent size and filling. French Press coffee for desert for one. As to accessing the restaurant, reviewers are correct in stating that the driveway down to the restaurant is very steep and while adequately wide for most cars, may not accommodate large trucks or SUV's, and special care is required when exiting the garage in larger vehicles to avoid the two "divider" concrete posts at the exit. To find Cosina one has to proceed SLOWLY to the end of the Mill No. 1 building (there's a lighted arrow for the driveway) and swing wide to go down the ramp to the valet area. If you miss this "driveway" you will have to back up, get the right angle and head down, again VERY SLOWLY. One glass of wine (it looked like a very small pour but that may be the size of the glass) and a very pricey apple martini gave us a bill, with a sharing of an entree, of $105 before tip. Not outlandish, but not cheap. We really were not sure we would return to Cosina. It seemed like a place to only "check out" to all three of us. read more

Amazing renovated space, place was packed when we arrived, and expectations were high. Once we got some attention (took awhile to get drinks), our waitress was excellent. Measly breadsticks on table for 4 people. Some of the issues were out of their control (like shrill fire alarm going off in middle of the meal). But don't let me order a main entree and then come back 20 min later and tell me you no longer have any more of it- it's just not very professional! Prices are on the high side (we are not in Manhattan!). Appetizers and pizza were all very good but pasta was disappointing (sardine pasta dish quite salty) and portions were overall pretty small for the cost. Cannoli dessert was disappointing compared to others we have had. I think the premise is good but the menu still needs some work. Will we try it again? Probably. But they need to get the food up to OUR Nonna's standards! They gave us dessert on the house, but owing to the disruption of fire alarms, it might have been nice to have given us a gift certificate towards another, less disruptive visit. read more

Diners Beware! I made a reservation at Cosima based on positive reviews in Baltimore Magazine and the Sun. The food and service were lousy. My wife and I ordered the arancini appetizer, which turned out to be two giant fried rice balls with cold chunks of mozzarella in the middle. We waited 35 minutes between the appetizer and entree. Our waitress was unfamiliar with the menu. It was clear that she hadn't tried most of the dishes and couldn't make any recommendations. Our entrees were large and lackluster (salmone con risotto and agnello alla bolongese). The couple sitting next to us had to send back a cocktail, because it didn't taste right. They were clearly as disappointed in their service and meal as we were. The restaurant was also too cold. The weather is unusually cold right now, but they didn't compensate by turning up the temperature. My wife and I couldn't wait to pay the bill and leave. There are many wonderful restaurants in Baltimore. Unfortunately, Cosima isn't one of them. read more
