Cortez Bait and Seafood is a place to get fresh seafood. They care about sustainable seafood and feature local, fresh and seasonal fish at the store. They say they're the oldest active fishing village in the country. They have their seafood for that day on ice behind plexiglass. You can see and smell that it is fresh. Examples of what they can sell are Florida Clams, Mahi, Oysters, Pompano, Salmon, Smoked Mullet, Red Snapper, Yellow Grouper, Scamp Grouper, Stone Crabs, Swordfish, Triple Tail, Tuna, Tigerfish, Jumbo Gulf shrimp, PEI Mussels, & Key West Pink Shrimp. There is a Refrigerator section with their Clam Chowder, Crab Bisque and Crab and Corn Chowder. We liked the Clam Chowder. Frozen Seafood Section has different frozen seafood like scallops, crab cakes, tuna steaks. They, also, sell spices & seasonings for the seafood as well as t-shirts and hats. Cortez Bait and Seafood is a quality business that cares about the future of our oceans. Sustainable seafood means harvesting seafood at a rate that the oceans can maintain. Fresh red snapper
Amy H.

This is our go to spot for fresh fish when we are in town. They have the best peel and eat shrimp, better than any restaurant on AMI. We loaded up on red snapper for multiple meals including this lemon, garlic, herbed pasta with sauted snapper. Always friendly and helpful too!

8 to 9 inches long claw. Giant colossal stone crab claw
Boon C.

Cool seafood place. Their fishing boat just located behind the store if you want to visit. This seafood place has fresh seafood every day. They are not cheap but fresh. The colossal stone crab claw is $33 per pound. It is huge. It is good for a try if you have never have that. It is definitely more meat that the medium claw which is $19. It take 4 medium to replace one colossal claw. They can crack it for you if you want to eat it immediately. Now they move their store at the main road and it is easy to access. It is the intersection of 121 and west Cortez Road. The have black grouper for $19 a pound. This grouper is filleted and ready to cook.

The marina setting is such a vibe, with dockside picnic tables, a tiki bar, and a small indoor space with a bar and a few tables. We were genuinely blown away by the quality of the food. Everything tasted incredibly fresh the menu says "caught and served same day," and it absolutely lives up to that promise. The blackened fish tacos were a standout and some of the best we've had. The Caesar salad dressing is made In house and is absolutely delicious! We added the blackened mahi and it was filling and delicious. I have mastered a homemade recipe and I'm hard to impress when it comes to Caesar . (We ordered it extra saucy) The only thing we didn't love was the grouper spread, but that was more of a personal preference--it leaned more toward a tuna fish style spread rather than the creamier version we were expecting. The service was great too, the waiters are obviously kept super busy in a spot like that but still managed to get the job done with a smile! Overall, this was easily some of the best food we've had in Florida in the 10 years we've been coming here for spring break. We'll definitely be adding this spot to our yearly rotation.

We started with stone crab claws, oysters Rockefeller and ahi tuna nachos--all fresh and flavorful. For entrées, the shrimp tacos were delicious, and the award-winning shrimp and grits definitely lived up to the hype. The Greek salad was also fresh and tasty. Our server was very polite and attentive. Great option for families too, with a kids menu featuring crowd-pleasers like chicken fingers and fries. There's also a fun little gift shop inside to browse, and plenty of parking, which makes the whole experience easy and enjoyable.

Hard to beat that. They've got both indoor and outdoor seating, and there was even live music on a Monday which was a nice surprise. Food was solid. We ordered the Nashville hot fish, grouper Reuben, grouper sandwich, and a dozen baked oysters. Everything was good, but nothing that really stood out or made me want to rush back. The only downside was the pricing. A lot of the grouper dishes are listed as market price, so we didn't have a clear sense of what things would cost going in. Totally get that with fresh fish, but the final bill felt higher than expected and not necessarily reflected in the overall experience.
