Gabriels Auto Paint - Bed of my truck

Gabriels Auto Paint

We hired this at-home auto body repair service, and the experience was extremely disappointing. I…read morewas charged $800 for work that honestly looks like something worth maybe $200 at best. The quality just wasn't there--uneven finish, visible flaws, and overall not what I expected given the price. What made the situation even worse is that the reviews I relied on don't match what I experienced. After dealing with him, it really feels like some of the glowing reviews may not reflect genuine customer experiences, which is frustrating when you're trying to make an informed decision. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I wish someone had warned me. Save your money and go with a reputable, established shop instead.

I was quoted $700 for a dent repair, but once the job was finished, he told me he "would've charged…read more$1,000 for this kind of repair" and raised the price to $900. The pricing communication only came after the work was done, which felt unclear and frustrating. The repair quality was not what I expected: the wheel well body line is crooked, the dent area is wavy, and the paint doesn't match -- it looks matte, almost like there's no clear coat. When I pointed this out, he insisted it looked like the other side (it didn't) and told me I "couldn't expect perfection," which isn't acceptable for "professional" body work. To make things worse, when I picked up my car, the window had been left open during the repair and the interior was covered in toxic dust and debris, so l spent an hour cleaning it out so it was drivable. I paid $800 in cash, but overall the experience was disappointing. I wouldn't have problem paying the $800 if the repair looked acceptable. Now it's going to ultimately cost me more money to have my car repaired correctly. There are better, more reliable options out there with reviews that reflect the quality of work you can expect.

Update: I want to clarify a few things. My feedback was…read morenever about how I was treated during my visit--I have no complaints about that. My concern is solely about the lack of transparency regarding the estimate fee on your website. I understand that the fee is credited toward repairs, and I understand that most estimates are scheduled. However, none of this information was clearly stated online. If it had been, I would have been able to make an informed decision before visiting. The fact that I had to physically come in to learn about the fee is exactly why I found the pricing information misleading. As a business, you're of course entitled to set your own policies. However, as a customer, I'm also entitled to provide feedback when something is unclear. My review isn't about disagreeing with your policies--it's about suggesting more transparency so future customers don't run into the same surprise. As for your comment about why I didn't say anything "to your face"--why would I? I wasn't going to stand there and argue over your policies. Once I was informed about the fee, I said I'd be back as a polite way of leaving. That's just basic courtesy. Customers shouldn't have to navigate through multiple steps just to find out if an estimate is free or not. A simple update on your website would resolve this issue entirely. And YES of course, I'm taking my business elsewhere. Your aggressive and defensive responses only confirm that this isn't the type of service I'd want from any business I choose to work with. First comment: I stopped by this shop because of the great reviews, but I was surprised to be asked to pay $25 just for an estimate. As soon as I walked in, I saw two employees at their computers, and I asked if someone could take a look at my car. I wasn't expecting a charge just for an estimate--especially since their website clearly states FREE ESTIMATE. If there is a fee, it should be clearly listed online or communicated before customers visit the shop. Also I want to make it clear that I understand that the estimate fee is credited toward the repair if I choose to proceed, but that doesn't change the fact that your website states FREE ESTIMATE without any mention of a charge. My feedback is simply that this should be clearly stated online or communicated upfront before customers visit. Also, my review is not about the quality of your repairs but about transparency in pricing. I was surprised by the fee because it wasn't mentioned beforehand, and that's why I shared my experience. Feedback is meant to help businesses improve, and I hope you take it that way rather than dismissing it as unfair.

Brighton Auto Body - Didn't refill the anti-freeze back to where it was.

Brighton Auto Body

My mechanic in Brighton referred me to Brighton Auto Body for repairs to my front bumper and hood…read moreafter someone hit it. I went and got my estimate and then ended up setting my appointment with Matt to take the car in 2 weeks in advance. So I take it in and they weren't ready for me. I had to go back home and get them all of the information again. Annoying and unorganized but I got my car in. I was then told the parts would be ordered and my car would be ready on a particular Friday. That day comes around and I make arrangements but then Matt says it's not ready but will be the following Friday. And again, pretty annoying. Fast forward to when it was ready, I go in and make payment and Matt gives me the paperwork and my keys and we go out back to my car. He had to move a different car that was in front of mine so I could get out. But all he said was ok your car is ready and you're good to go and pulled that car away. He didn't go over the work with me and show me what they did. I've never had any other body shop do that. Other shops showed me the work they've performed along with the paperwork. Also, other shops advised me not to use a pressure washer on the car after it was freshly painted and how long it would take the paint to cure. I got none of that from him. It felt like he just wanted to rush me out of there and be done with it. What if I wouldn't have been aware of any of that? So then I return home and look over the car thoroughly. I noticed several new scratches in my door jambs. There's also a ton of overspray they didn't even bother to address. They also didn't refill my anti-freeze to the proper level with a clear indicator arrow on the coolant reservoir tank. That could potentially cause damage. I always keep my fluid topped off. I returned the next morning to show them and Matt and one of the owners got all defensive and did nothing but attack me and say it was my fault. There shouldn't be a SINGLE new scratch that wasn't there before. And with the coolant, he was talking to me like I was dumb and like I didn't know what a reservoir tank is and that they filled it up properly. But my owners manual says otherwise, along with Chevrolet and also my mechanic who I went and showed it to. Overall, it was a bad experience and leaves me wondering how many corners these guys may have cut. I wish I could give them a zero star rating. They were unorganized, sloppy, and did lazy work from a shop that I thought might be top tier. I'll see what my paint looks like as it cures over the next few months. My mechanics shop will also no longer be giving this place anymore referrals. I'll definitely be finishing up the rest of my bodywork elsewhere. I'm sure a much better shop will respond back to emails, be professional, not be rude, take accountability, and not talk to me like I'm stupid. I encourage all who read this to do their due diligence on researching other shops. I'm sure there's many better options out there for you. Best of luck.
