We drove up from Duck for this tour. Check in was easy. We were all loaded up and the truck wouldn't start so they cancelled our tour on the spot. There were no available back up trucks or Jeep's to honor our tour and no availability same day. I would not recommend this company if you are looking for a reliable tour. read more

This review is for the atv tour. Our guide was super friendly and made sure we were safe when driving the atvs. I had a good time driving the atv although it wasn't what I expected. For the entire hour of driving the atv we went through a course in the woods (not on the beach) and preceded to do the same course over and over again. We rode through the actually dunes for a brief moment and were able to stop and take a picture there which was nice. All in all I wish it was more clear that we were not driving the atvs on the beach and seemed very unlikely that we were going to see any horses in the woods. Not worth 160$ to drive the same trail over and over again. read more

We had a coupon from our beach rental and went on an 8am tour in a Hummer out of here. John was our tour guide and I think we lucked out having him. He had plenty of personality and knowledge to make it an enjoyable tour. He seems to really care about the horses and their well being. Just the scenery rolling through Carova which requires a 4x4 was fun to experience. We saw over 20 horses during our time as John was good at tracking and knew other guides who were out and they shared tips. Do this! read more

My partner and I did the Guided ATV Tour from Corolla Jeep Adventures. Overall the experience was just OK and I feel that there were a lot of aspects of the tour not made known to us and a lot of mistakes made by this business in our delivery specifically. Too Long, Didn't Read: Not a true ATVing experience in the dunes, more akin to a children's ride. Experience is expensive. Less likely that other tours to see horses and other wildlife. Company itself is disorganized and messed up our reservation time. Would not recommend to others. 1) The ATV Tour consists of following their ATV guide along an existing ATV track that exists on a small-ish private plot of land within the dunes. Guests are expected to follow the guide exactly (i.e. in their tire tracks) and are forced to slow to the guides speed (which is not fast). There are a few small drops, bumps, and tight turns, but it is definitely made for beginners / new drivers. If you're expecting the chance to freely drive around in ATVs on the dunes this is not it, this experience is more like a children's ride at Disney Land. 2) The company says its around a 2 hour tour but we were out for only about an hour and 20 minutes. This length of time was fine once I realized what the tour actually consisted of, however, it does seem a bit misleading to have such a large time discrepancy. 3) The company messed up my original reservation time and only told us minutes before our originally scheduled time that we had to come back in two hours because they had overbooked the tour. We were able to make use of this time but it was definitely an inconvenience for which they gave my partner and I ~$11.60 dollars off the ~$171.60 price tag. Furthermore, when we did come back two hours later they informed us they had made a mistake the first time around and actually did not overbook, meaning that we could have gone at our originally planned time. This level of disorganization is really unfortunate for a small business as they lose revenue and customers by doing this and is totally avoidable. 4) If your main goal is to see the horses / wildlife, you're better off with one of the wild horse tours they, or another company, offer. I feel that they were better about communicating this aspect than the other issues I raised earlier but it should be known that seeing horses on the ATV tour is not the usual, although it does infrequently happen. We did not see any wild horses or other wildlife aside some tracks in the dunes during our tour. read more

We selected Corolla Jeep Adventures partly because they had a coupon in a local flyer. We phoned ahead asking about hours and the coupon. We presented the coupon to the clerk, who acknowledged it. But she just ignored it. Otherwise, we saw a few horses and had fun in the Humvee. Ultimately, do not recommend. We prefer to support businesses with integrity. read more

After seeing the company's advertisements in numerous beach publications we looked at their website for more info. 11 of us booked what was advertised on their website (see attached photo) as a 3 hour tour with 2 hours of paddling. One of our main reasons for booking this tour was what was advertised as "...water level views of the Wild Horses..." Seeing the wild horses was the only reason several opted to go. "Here you will see Monkey island off in the distance and more breathtaking views and many types of wildlife, including water level views of the Wild Horses grazing in their native habitat!" Our trip lasted 1:50 from out the door to back with 30 minutes of that spent on the road just getting from their office to the beach and back. Once we got to the kayak launch we were given no instruction - fortunately, all but a couple in the group had paddled before. Someone in the group asked about the horses and we were told "oh, you won't see them today, it's to hot." That would've been nice to know ahead of time as their website description doesn't contain any disclaimers regarding the viewing of the horses. Our paddle time was only 45 minutes and other than marsh grasses we saw an egret and an osprey. Could've been a great trip had it lived up to the description on their website, unfortunately, it didn't. read more

We did the ATV tour with John and it was such a memorable experience! If you're trying to choose which type of activity you want to do...choose the ATV tour!!! It's even more fun than you can imagine. John is such a character (everything you hope for for these kinds of things!) and he made sure we were knowledgeable about how to operate the ATVs and you feel extremely safe with him in front of you. It's an experience inaccessible on foot :) you MUST must try this tour! John is only here for a few months out of the year and I'm glad we got him! I'd recommend wearing pants and long sleeves, the trails goes through the forest area and branches can strike ya...but you're having so much fun you don't even mind! read more

This was one of my favorite parts of our OBX trip. Tommy "Gator" was an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly guide as we cruised around Corolla and Corova in the hmve. We saw several horses and most of them were on the company's privately owned land that no other tours are capable of seeing. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We will definitely be back to try out the ATV and kayak tours next year. (We did experience some trouble with their online reservation system. It said they were sold out but when I spoke to Tommy on the phone they were available. We just came in that morning and signed up but I thought it was odd they couldn't take reservations over the phone.) read more

We are a family of 4 (40-something parents with 2 kids under 10) and repeat OBX visitors who have done the group wild horse tour in the past. We wanted to do something a little different and thought we would splurge on the jeep adventure tour. Not sure what we were expecting, but it wasn't what we experienced. Didn't realize that we would just be following one of the trucks giving a group tour (with no radios or anything to hear the guide talking). First of all, totally understand the rules given to us (don't go into the ocean and follow directly in the tracks of the truck leading us). We weren't looking to go rogue with kids in the backseat. Within the first 30 seconds of getting onto the beach, the guide in front of us takes us really close to the surf, and as we were following IN HER TRACKS the water comes up and of course our passenger side goes through it (not fully engulfing jeep or anything). The guide kindly stops the entire caravan, gets out, and berates us in front of all the people on the tour about not following rule #1. Now mind you....we were not looking to do anything wrong and it was completely embarrassing (also proceeded to remind us we broke the rules each time the caravan stopped to see something), and was basically threatening us with a cleaning fee. Needless to say, ruined the ENTIRE day and made us feel like a bunch of piece of garbage tourists. Might not be a big deal to some people, but it took the wind out of our sails, the kids were bored out of their minds since we were so afraid of hitting ANY water, and we saw very few horses. Save your money and take the group tour. Really regret spending the money and would never do it again. Not all tourists are jerks, but we sure felt like ones after we kindly tipped the guide and drove away to the arcade. read more

We really enjoyed our tour, seeing the horses. Carla was a great driver and knew so much about the area. She genuinely loves the horses and got us to places we could see them without bothering them. Loved the sand dunes and the perfect weather. Thanks to Kelly for fixing our billing question so quickly. I will recommend y'all to anyone visiting. It was a once in a lifetime adventure. read more

We did the ATV tour, which was fun. It does get a little monotonous because you go through all these narrow pathways. Being on the sand dune is the most fun with incredible views to snap a picture. Our tour guide was very friendly. Make sure you register the day before for the time you want. The only thing I didn't like was the office opened 15 minutes late. Since we were the 8am tour, we thought no one was showing up since they told us to be there for 7:30. I'm not a fan of tardiness. read more

Misleading information. We booked the 4x4 and kayak tour. The photos in their ad for that activity showed Jeeps towing a trailer of kayaks, so we were led to believe that was what we were getting. The description also mentioned paddling to "water level views of the wild horses". What we got upon arrival was a truck with benches that drove us to the kayak site. We were not in Jeeps and were not driving ourselves as we thought we would. The kayaks are stored onsite on the ground and were quite run down and dirty, some with broken seats. Fortunately our guide checked each kayak before we got in because he found a water moccasin snake inside one kayak. The tour was short and there wasn't much to see. Zero horses were seen, and they were hardly even talked about by our guide. This was a huge letdown because the horses were the reason we took the tour. The tour was short, and we were back at the shop in under two hours, an hour shorter than advertised. Overall, it was not worth the money. I had a much better kayak tour at Pea Island with Kitty Hawk Kites and their tour operation. read more

The people who run this company are just the best! Adam and Rich took us on an amazing ATV tour (seriously, spring for the extra cost, its more than worth it!). They made us feel like we were old friends. They were knowledgeable and fun, giving us a little history lesson of the area before letting us go ham in the dunes. It's an experience we'll never forget. We can't thank everyone for such an amazingly wonderful time! read more

If I could leave this place a 0 star review I would. We booked our 4x4 kayak tour online, as most people book online. We showed up the morning of our tour and they said they just got our reservation the evening before we were supposed to depart, despite booking it 3 days prior. They never called us the night before either explaining that they just got our reservation and that they lost their jeep. They said there was nothing they could do for us as they didn't even have their car to take us to the kayaking spot. When trying to talk to the people to see what they could do, they were very rude and said there was nothing they could do for us at all, despite booking our spot with a credit card. Also no one was wearing a mask when we walked in, despite the guidelines requiring masks. I do not recommend going to this place for anything as they are very unorganized, rude and have a blatant disrespect for their customers. Spend your money elsewhere!! read more

We reserved the ATVs to ride thru the dunes of Corolla. John provided a thorough safety orientation and guided us to amazing views on the Penny Hill dunes! If you're looking for something exciting to do and haven't explored Corolla, I recommend Corolla Jeep Adventures. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We paid $143 for a 2 hour sunset horse tour for our family of 4. On their website they write "All our tours offer a lot of narratives on our unique coastal area. Learn local ecology, as your guide shows you things normally over looked by the untrained eye," yet we were told NOTHING the entire trip! I mean, it was actually quite shocking to us! I have been on many of these type of tours in other locations where the tour guide tells you about the area, the history, the ecology, cool stories, etc.... but on this tour the driver was in a truck cab and NEVER SPOKE TO US AT ALL THE ENTIRE TIME! He told us before we left how many horses there were in Corolla and that only 3 foals are born a year. That is the ONLY information we got the entire tour. After we started driving he honestly never told us another single thing for 2 hours. There was another vehicle in our group that was an open Humvee and apparently their tour guide was actually telling them things during the trip. We stopped twice to get out (once on the beach, and once at Penney Hill) but even then our tour guide said nothing to us. He was just a young kid and seemed very inexperienced. My kids were bored out of their minds and everyone in our vehicle was disgusted. I decided to call the next morning to complain and demand some compensation as we had paid for a service (a narrated tour) that we did not get in any way shape or form. I was told I would have to talk to someone else and that the person would call me. She did not call so I called the next day and talked to Kelly. She admitted that other people had complained about the tour as well and that after looking into it she learned that it was true that we had not been told anything. She apologized and told me they could probably give us a partial refund and she would talk to the owner and get back to me. Well, she never got back to me so I called her again and again and again. Each time she promised she would get back to me about getting a partial refund and admitted that their company had erred in not giving us what we paid for. But she still never called back and I finally talked to another woman who was EXTREMELY RUDE to me and talked to the owner in the background and then told me that I went on a tour and saw horses and would be getting no refund. She claimed that she talked to the tour guides from that night and that they answered all of our questions. We never asked any questions because we never got to talk to the tour guide as he was in his truck cab and Kelly had admitted that this happened that night. We called our credit card company and disputed the charge which has since been taken off our bill while they look into it. I know people who have used one of the other 7 horse tour companies and have had GREAT tours where they learned a lot about the horses, the area, etc... Look for the ones that have an OPEN TRUCK where the driver can actually talk to the people he is transporting. Corolla Jeep Adventures claims that all the companies have the same truck cabs like they do and that they have to stop the vehicle to talk to the tourists. This is NOT true. We saw MANY open vehicles driving around. And make sure you read the reviews for each company! We choose Corolla Jeep Tours because they own Penney Hill and allow you to get out and walk around on the dune. While that does separate them from the rest, the fact that they don't give their guests a narrated tour ruins the experience. I figured they would all give the same kind of tour and have similar vehicles. NOT THE CASE! My sister in law went on a tour with the company in the same plaza as Harris Teeter last year and the tour guide was WONDERFUL! He told them all about the area and funny stories and interesting facts the entire time! Wish we would have chosen that one! read more

FIVE STAR! They were great! Mark was an AWESOME tour guide! Saw about 15 horses.

We took the ATV tourwith Mark. He was awesome, took us through great trails and really let us drive the atv. Charged exactly what they said no bs add on. Highly recommended. read more

Our guide, Adam, was AMAZING, there were 10 of us on the kayak tour and he was just a pleasure to be with, very attentive to one and all and we were from ages 5 to 56... I the 56 year old, was the only kayak virgin and he made it all very seemless... it was a wonderful experience and one and all had an amazing time.. the only down side was we were supposed to have 3 hours and we're back u Der 2, so I guess we should have been able to do more for the amount that was spent for 10 of us to do the tour! Other than that it was just AMAZING!!! read more

Awesome and accommodating!!! These guys really gave me the best tour and were so friendly & helpful!

This is the most incredible tour of the Outer Banks. Very close to the beach do little time spent getting to see the horses. Our tour guide Chris knows where to find the wild horses and told great stories about how they arrived in the area and their everyday lives. We saw more than 30 horses in several groups. There were two individual young stallions who had been cast out of the harem who were gallantly trying to impress the ladies to win their attention. The tour also included Penny's Hill, the second largest sand dune which is constantly moving, including covering trees, cars and 2 homes. We were allowed to get out and see horse, fox and bird tracks. I'm always hunting for the best deal and their price was lowest. The decision was made when we met their energetically entertaining staff. Loved that they did not use a microphone and loud speaker to guide the tour. Chris would stop at the horse groups, get out of the truck and talk directly to us. This is a wonderful family memory! read more

John gave us the best tour ever. We saw a 1 day old baby. Awesome fup. We had booked an ATV tour but were informed that they were not running. So we actually got offered a Hummer tour that allowed us to bring our parents so everyone got to go. read more

Will definitely recommend everything was amazing. Took the Jeep out on the 2 hour sunset tour. It was more than enough time out tour guide was amazing don't remember his name but he was also the mechanic there and his wife was working the front desk and she was amazing as well. Was with wife on 20yr anniversary over the weekend, and we'd decided to do an excursion one day. Ultimately, made the decision to go an ATV tour with these guys. Was blown away at how much fun we had and the excitement of riding the dunes. John "The Marine" Sams was our guide and knew the trails inside and out. (He actually spent a season carving them out.) I often worry about paying money for something like this and never able to get rowdy on one of these machines. Well, let me tell you, you get rowdy on the ATV tour. It was a blast. Best value for the buck in a long time. You get to ride a RZR 800 w roll cage, and as long as you listen to John on how to operate these little whipper snappers, he will let you open it up. Not to mention, you get to see great wildlife and the scenery is second to none. I will be bringing my kids back to do this tour and won't hesitate to refer these guys to my friends, family and neighbors. read more

We couldn't have asked for a better tour. We did the jeep tour and it was wonderful! 2 hours, lots of horses, a beautiful drive down the beach and a friendly and knowledgable guide. He was polite, answered questions and made the tour a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend this company for a tour! read more

After doing our own four wheeling in Corolla/Carova, we did an ATV tour to check other back trails...without trespassing. Andy was awesome! Safety first, fun second and that it was. We saw a lone Stallion believed to have been brought to the OBX to mate. After doing several "drop-ins" from the top of Penny's Hill we stopped at the top to take pictures and from the back side of the dune a coyote comes sauntering by. Andy told us he sees tracks all the time but this was the first time he saw one! They were super awesome all around! Ask for Andy! read more

Great tour. We left a little late and may have in turn missed the sunset on top of dune because of that but still an a++ experience and our guide was super nice and knowledgeable. Worth the money especially in seasons where horses are typically out. read more

My husband, five kids (including one still in a car seat), two grandmothers and I set off for our Corolla Jeep Adventure this past Saturday morning. While I first thought the price was a bit steep, I realized it was worth every penny. Our guide, Dave, was incredibly knowledgeable about not just the wild horses, of which we easily saw 20, but also the environment, landscape, and Outer Banks history and development. So glad we opted to drive ourselves rather than ride in the back of a truck. Much more authentic experience. One tip -- during the season, take the 8:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. tour. I believe other times would be too crowded on the beach and/or too hot. read more

My teenage daughter and her friend went on the kayak tour and they did indeed have fun. But the experience is not as advertised on their website. It states on their website that you will "ride" up the 2nd largest sand dune at Penny Hill. This was not the case on the kayak tour at all. All the participants had to walk up Penny Hill. It was very hot so even though they were teenagers, they didn't really enjoy that experience. Plus, somehow my billing was messed up which was my fault, I paid online then paid again when I arrived but after numerous phone calls and even sending my bank transactions, I cant get anyone to call me back or to process the refund for the overpayment. I realize its the busy season but hello....customer service. They say oh we will call you back....not one phone call, and its now been a month. Kinda sad service Kelly. read more

We booked two ATV's, so my family of four would be able to all go. Only when we arrived, we were told there was an accident with the previous group and we will have to use a four passenger ATV, kinda disappointing. They refunded us the second ATV, so that was great. We met John, our ATV guide, he was highly entertaining and knowledgeable from the start! We traveled from the office to the location where the ATV's were. Beautiful views! As we unloaded at the offsite, our youngest who is also Autistic, was getting nervous and was unsure what to expect. John noticed as he was helping us unload, and without asking or saying a word, he adjusted his safety brief before we got started. He even said his wife would find it comical that he adjusted how he spoke. It was awesome!! He did such an amazing job and being situationally aware of people around him. The ATV ride was so much fun, and John took us over real quick to see a few horses hanging out also! We were all happy and pleased with everything!! I'd like to try the Jeep tour next time we come to OBX and hope for John as our guide again! Semper Fi John!! read more

We had an amazing time renting our own Jeeps. We saw horses, got some history and saw the surf. Very cool. Either renting your own or riding would be cool, we had 4 people so we did our own Jeep. We even saw a foal! Do not expect A/C and perfect Jeeps, these things are riding in the salt water all the time and show it. You are not there to test drive, you are there to enjoy nature! read more

This was a FANTASTIC adventure! Our whole family, 10 adults and 4 children, were able to go on the same tour and John was the best tour guide we could have asked for. If I could give this business a negative star review I would!!!!! We arrived to North Carolina on Sunday and called to book a tour on Monday. When we called we let them know we had a group of larger people and Kelly said she would accommodate us and give us a whole truck. If she had said she could not accommodate our party we would have tried one of the other plethora of tour companies. We were the first to arrive for the 6pm tour and when it was time to get on the tour there was not enough room. One of the trucks had broke down and they were going to split our party even though kelly had said that she get our party of 11 our own truck when we booked on Monday and when we arrived for the tour. When we had decided not to go we asked for a refund and then got told by Kelly that we were rude from the time we arrived which was not the case. She started arguing with a member of my party and said that 'well when you book a plane you have to buy and extra seat' implying that because of some of our party was overweight we were getting split up on the tour. HOW RUDE!!!How can a manager of a business say something like that to customers?!?! It was not our fault that one of the trucks broke down and they could not accommodate the group. Do not EVER book with this second rate company and their shoddy equipment. I have worked in customer service before and that is not how you deal with a situation!!!! read more
