I've been looking forward to trying this place since I found it a few months ago. The baristas were very kind and knowledgeable, helped answer my many questions. If you're into local-roasted, specialty coffee, this is the place to try. They rotate their drip, and espresso, and cold brew to showcase different roasteries. The ambiance is interesting here and it seems very cool and hip (Berkeley vibes). There is decent seating inside but still small. I asked the person at the register if they had any sugar free syrups. The cashier was so confused... and said "uh.. we have simple syrup.. does that have sugar in it?" ANY BARISTA SHOULD KNOW THAT SIMPLE SYRUP IS LITERALLY SUGAR AND WATER. And to ask me if it has sugar in it? At least go ask someone else working. I awkwardly answered and said yes it does. I ended up just getting a latte and adding Splenda to it. My partner got a matcha latte and it was good but my latte was just mid. It was also expensive, but their seasonal menu looked fun. read more

Workers honestly seem more interested in socializing with each other than doing their job and helping customers. I was waiting to order for about 5 minutes with no line and no one in front of me because the workers were too busy talking to one another and kept telling me that they'd "be with me in a second". I should have left then, but instead I waited in order to give the place a chance (cause it was my first time). I got a matcha latte and it just tasted like powder and hot water with latte art for $6... Normally I'm not picky about my matcha AT ALL nor would I even take it to the point where I'd write a review, but this place was just straight up disappointing and felt like a waste of time and money to me. Hands down my favorite spot for coffee in Berkeley. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. They really go above and beyond. I stopped in with my partner for a beverage after lunch. The cafe was busy, and full, always a good sign. I was greeted by the person at the register who took my order, that part was fine. My partner ordered separately, and we waited. There were four people behind the counter, none were interacting with guests, they were talking loudly about the low quality of the chocolate they were using, and kind of talking smack about my partner's order, which was really bothering me. I've been to lots of coffee spots in the area, I've been to CoRo before, and had better service, but I haven't had anyone be so crappy about another person's order before, or had anyone talk smack about the quality of what they were serving in front of the person they were serving it to, and then be so rude about it. My partner won't be back, they were upset, and I'm not so sure the quality of what I was served warrants being treated so poorly. So maybe I won't be back again either. read more

Came in for a second coffee of the morning after a doctor's appt nearby. Beautiful interior with plenty of seating and good work music, friendly service from huge coffee geeks, easy parking. I had the kuri latte with soy milk, which uses their housemade kuri syrup of kuri squash and fall spices. It gets a 4/5 from me, it could've amped up the spice level significantly, was more subtle. But, the barista gave it to me for free because he couldn't find it on the POS, and then brought it to my table! High fives to you, barista! read more

Been here a few times for coffee or tea and they never disappoint! Their lattes are always smooth & delicious. Their tea is slightly sweetened, and there are a lot of milk options to choose from. It's a little pricey, but can be worth it if you're in the area! read more

Found this coffee spot on yelp and looked like a cute ambience which it was. Came in and ordered, the cashier was very friendly. The barista called out 1 drink, went over there and it was hot so didn't think it was mine. So I walked out. They called another drink again, the barista looked over my way and looked annoyed I wasn't walking over there, so my friends and I walked over. All the drinks were hot, but we ordered iced. One of my friends said we actually ordered these iced. Then the barista started to cuss and very aggressively took the drinks and threw them out. Then he went back and aggressively started putting ice in cups. We walked away, shocked. Yes, I can understand there could've been miscommunication with us and the cashier but the reaction we got was too much. We have never been to this coffee shop and this is how our first experience was. We probably won't be coming back. I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of being an asshole and giving it 1, because maybe the barista was just not having a great day. Yassss So the highlights : 1. Amazing staff- they just opened their cafe 6 weeks ago and I told them I've been stalking them every weekend but Alas... always when they Are closed. The barista was kind enough to give me a FREE first-timer coffee :-) 2. Diverse food options: they actually have more than croissants and a random berry tart. They have toast with pesto sauce, oatmeal etc... 3. Featured coffee roasters: im a fan of Slo Joy coffee in downtown oakland- they roast here. What I love is that they gesture their independent roasters and the menu changes on a monthly basis. Right now they brew: Nomadic Ground Coffee; redwood gospel, rebellion coffee and Soul Work. I loved soul work (I think it was a green label- possibly Guatemalan or something with caramel undertones) 4. Other options: blue willow tea :-) 5. If you're not going to serve a normal vanilla latte, please consider communicating that ahead of the purchase. I have been ordering lattes for many years and have never drank such a "subtle" vanilla latte. I wanted a vanilla latte, not a normal latte, I can order the latter, if I want. I don't have a problem with bad flavor, or any cafe deciding to be creative, but when I point it out to you all that this is NOT normal and show you that I haven't drunk my drink, don't give me an attitude - have some courtesy towards your guests man. I'm really glad that a stopped by CoRo during its first week of operation. The place is great! My understanding is that the rear work area is a shared space for local roasters, whose wares are featured at the coffee bar. As far as I can tell, everything that's available is hyper-local. My espresso was made from Brazilian beans that were roasted on site by Nomadic Coffee and served in a cup that was crafted by a local potter. (The cup and a glass of lightly sparking water sat on a ceramic tray that was made by the same potter.) The service was beautiful; the coffee was delicious! Damn good coffee, excellent wifi, tasty pastries, and personable staff... what's not to like about a cafe like this? I'll give you the answer. Nothing. And if you figure out those double negatives right (Nothing's not to like about this place)... you'll have arrived at the conclusion that everything is to like about this place. Which is whole-heartedly correct. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to work, given the above, and the good (natural and artificial) lighting. Ugh. I love CoRo. CoRo is the reason I would move back to Berkeley. lol I still have their amazing coffee sparkles sticker on my mug. I love that sticker!!! The coffee here is THE BEST. The staff and service here is TOP NOTCH A++++ kindness, good vibes, friendliness, day in and out. The food is also good.. but it's more like overpriced snacks--but they got your avo toast! My favorite is actually the soft boiled egg toast. Would I ever make soft boiled egg toast?! Prob not. So I guess I can't complain bc for several bucks they'll make it for me!! Also, who doesn't love the space?! woody, sunlight, slanted roofs. How dreamy! And did I mention you could see through to the coffee roastery while you're there???!!! So cool. CoRo is by far one of my favorite coffee shop within Berkeley. Although the prices are a bit on the pricier side, to the point where an iced oat latte came out to almost $7, the cafe's a great study spot off-campus that's accessible by transit (51B or 36) and bit of a walk. There's also a good amount of unmetered street parking! The seating area is a bit limited but I never really struggle to find a seat. Note that there are only a couple outlets so charge up before your visit. Inside, there's also a windowed wall that showcases its roaster which adds to the entire ambiance and creates a unique cafe experience unlike other coffee shops. read more

Excellent addition to this light industrial West Berkeley neighborhood. The pottery is from Jered's pottery and so beautiful visually and to the touch, that it tapped into extra senses during the coffee break. I also appreciate that there have been no laptops when I have been in, and people are talking to each other at tables. A whole other part of the business is training people to roast their own beans and giving them a space for that. While this isn't a service I will use, it is a pretty cool usage of the large space. The prices are higher than I could pay for a daily visit, and pastries look good, but are really priced beyond what I'd want to spend. I will still give this five stars, but if the prices go any higher, it will be prohibitive. read more

tldr three stars because the place used to be good. It's really gone down hill. So I'll start by saying that this place used to easily be five stars. Two years ago I would've given it six stars if I could. But this place has seen a very consistent drop in quality (and a hilariously paradoxical rise in prices - but I'll ignore that). I used to go here basically every day, and buy a bag of beans once a week. The baristas were top notch - never a bitter or sour espresso - sweet full bodied deliciousness that would have made James Hoffman proud. The decline started pre pandemic even. The first indicator was turnover. They'd have a new barista every other month. The second was bean stagnation (you see earlier they would constantly be rotating beans, there would be a new and exciting batch every month). I don't know if the place changed management or just got complacent. Pandemic hit, and we know how that plays out, but when they finally reopened, it was a shell of its original self. Terribly inconsistent espresso that is more bitter than anything. And very questionable batches. Most recently, I bought a bag of beans from them that used to be excellent (bassline Ethiopia) . Except this one had horrible stale flavor to it. It was roasted two weeks earlier, which is fine, but clearly something had gone awry with either the roast or the storage). They refused to take it back (they did however offer me a complementary coffee, which was terribly bitter per usual). This was simply the last straw. If they can't stand behind their products, why should I keep giving them my business? Really sad to see the decline of what used to be one of the best coffee shops I had ever been to. read more

Yknow when you try a coffee shop for the first time and it's one of the best drinks you've had but then you try the coffee shop again and it's not as good as you remember the first time and your disappointed.. well this place is consistent and makes a great drink every time! I like to stick to an easy good basic, iced vanilla oat milk latte and this place does NOT disappoint.. I've had my share of not so good lattes but never here, always great-I travel a bit out of my way just to stop here. The vibe is nice and clean, and it's a pretty chill place to work. The Chemex and cold brew I had were both nice, on the lighter side but without too much acidity. I would probably hit this place up if I were in the area more (it's not in the most happening of environments). Some notes: * They have a good variety of single, 2-seaters, and communal table, and the wi-fi seemed to work well, but there are some tables without easy access to an outlet if you need to plug in. * Prices include 12 % gratuity, and there didn't seem to be a tip jar, so it seems to be inclusive of service. I'm pro-transparency in pricing. * I wish it stayed open later (closed at 4 as of time of this writing). read more

Modern coffee shop in West Berkeley, perfect for studying, free wifi, collaborative table. It was my first time in, and the cashier was so nice. He asked if we'd ever been before and I said no, and then he gave us the drinks on the house. This is probably the best service I've ever received at a cafe, wow! I really appreciated it, and it makes me want to come back here! It is kinda pricey, my drink would've cost about $6, but it was very smooth and tasted amazing.
