I love this place but the cashier was weird. She claimed she couldn't help me until I put the three bottles of essential oils in a very specific spot because the credit card machine was closer for her. I made my 45$ purchase and the cashier refused to place my items in the area best suited for the customer. It felt like a weird emotional tug of war to see who has the power to make the other person do something to make HER experience better. Last time I checked these cashiers are here for the customer, or has that changed. I've heard McDonalds is replacing customer service personnel with robots, I'd really hate to see that come to places like Cornucopia but if the cashiers are working against the business owner and being difficult to customers maybe people will switch to online sales and avoid the attitude. read more

Let's just say the person at the register was completely uninterested in being there. Customer service wasn't lacking but completely non existent even though there wasn't anyone she was helping she seemed annoyed when I asked a question. Forget the crazy prices etc I thought this was a cute place but that interaction alone with the miss at the counter with dark hair has put me off this place completely. This is one of my favorite stores. I try to buy only organic and non-gmo items. I can often find things here that I can't find at Other stores. I'm often at that plaza so I probably go more often since I'm right here. Prices are a lot higher, $5 peanut butter is $9 there. I just associate at "Carmel Tax" it's convenience. I don't do my full regular shopping there, just odd and ends. They are highly informative in the vitamin department, I often go there for advise as well. read more

I've been shopping at Cornucopia for a while. They have great products. However, the customer service is horrible. The cashiers, to be specific, on Thursday during the day are not only rude but also condescending. It is a shame to have such people at the front who have direct contact with customers. Having these kinds of people working there can be detrimental to a business, as they do not show proper respect. This is the only store on the peninsula where I have encountered such treatment. I hope Cornucopia chooses their staff more wisely in the future. read more

After reading some of these reviews, I finally understand that the ridiculous, childish attitude of the middle aged cashier with black hair and short bangs (kind of goth) isn't personal--she's just a rude, angry person. Every time I have ever gone in there, unfortunately this miserable soul is working. She makes a point to be rude, give me dirty looks, and generally treat me like I am a big pile of human trash standing in front of her. We get it; she hates her job, she hates people, heck, it seems like she hates life itself. At this point I just ask my boyfriend to go in because she's oddly friendly with him. After a couple of years of coming here, the only explanation I can come up with is that she hates other women. I have found that this store carries a niche line of products that I can't find elsewhere, but honestly I'd rather buy online than spend the money that will go toward her salary. She is truly one of the most blatantly rude people I've ever had to interact with. Having to deal with her outweighs any of the positives to this shop. read more

This store carries things I can't find in other markets in the area so 2 stars instead of 1 star, but service needs improvement. When I asked if they carry a product, guy there responded in so many words that they don't carry junk food type brand of what I wanted. I'm Asian/Pacific Islander ...so wondered... did he think my appearance suggested I wouldn't be looking for healthier choices of food. At any rate, he didn't show me where the product was. This market is deceiving in size. From the outside it looks very small but inside it opens up, especially towards the back. Shopping here made me think I was in a GNC that sells food. Every item I looked at was marked up considerably over similar items found anywhere else. Surely there are some bargains within their walls but maybe not. My wife did see some wheat free/dairy free foods that interested her so I know she will return. Nothing turns me against a business more reliably than unpleasant or rude staff. I looked straight into the eyes of one of the workers in an aisle and said hello. He glared back at me. Whoa! I went to the car. He was the checkout for my wife and she exclaimed the checker has an attitude. For that reason alone when I need a community market fix in Carmel I'll get it at Nielson Brothers in the village. read more

I was in Big Sur visiting a friend, when she brought me into Cornucopia in Carmel. I live in LA and despite spending most of my free time in health stores, the vibe in Cornucopia was a welcomed change of pace. First of all, this store is immaculate. I noticed right away how tidy everything was. The staff were so lovely and friendly. I discovered honey mama chocolate and had the best ginger vegan cookie of my life. It's a short coming for this store with new owners and the store is coming back to life. The produce selection has piled up and so has the fruit and the grocery shelves are full again. The diary is back with there raw milk and lots of raw chess and vegan choices. Lots of gluten free pasta and pizza crust and a gluten free shelf for cookies and snacks. Also very a vitamin section. Edible Monterey Bay did a write up on a company called Creative Cultures. It's a local company that makes juices that contain healthy bacteria. Right about the same time that I read that article, I was reading about how your gut affects your health. Googled and found out they carry it here so came in to try it. It's delicious and good for you. When I'm in the area I will call ahead to see if they have it, and I'll stop off really quick to grab a couple of bottles. That's all I can review on but the staff is friendly and accommodating because I need to get in and out because I'm on a MST rides bus and they are squeezing the trip in just to help me out. One of these days I'll look around the small store and try other things. read more

I'm confused by the reviewer who wrote a negative review. I've only been here a few times and actually going to drop by here every week until I move away. They sell my milk here, along with the cheese and the butter I like. The place is nice and clean and has such a selection! Like stuff I've never heard of or existed, places like this intrigue me. Although I've only bought a small amount food here, I can't comment on the old and used food products. My milk I buy is always fresh, and the food I have bought in the past has been pretty good soo maybe there is a certain product they are doing that with?? I'm deducting a star because they always seem to run out of some stuff I buy, people come to this place in droves and stuff gets sold out fast. Service is suprisingly friendly, the lady with the long greyish white hair is nice, and the big tall guy has his days. I'll continue to shop here until I either move away or they stop selling my milk. read more

On a plus I found some trial size gripe water for babies that looked like they had been there a while, they where samples and the lady let me have the ones left. Cornucopia Market is convenient for the local's in Carmel. The prices are totally ridiculous these days and the shelves aren't well stocked. The price's are either marked wrong or out-of-date. Buyer be ware and check the price's carefully before checking out at the front register. I wanted to purchase fresh honey and they did not have lids available! I love love love to grab a salad, or one of the other fresh case items for lunch. I have a whole list of food items I hope to see come back to the store. Everyone should check out the lunch options. Cornucopia is obviously run by folks who lived and loved the 60's - so many of the things that became iconic about "health food stores". Prices are high. Produce often way beyond fresh yet still in the case. Employees indifferent, klatching between themselves. On the plus and contemporary side, the store is very clean, well lighted, the selection of goods surprisingly large and varied and they don't have incense burning nor beaded curtains. read more

I shop here mostly because it is conveniently located for me. It is a little pricey but they have a lot of the things I buy. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING IN BULK AT THIS STORE. A few weeks ago I bought a tiny bag of dill weed which I found out after I had left cost $5.00!! Ridiculous. The amount would have filled about 1/3 of a spice jar. I made a mental note to not buy any more spices. I recently bought two apples @ 1.97 per pound and was charged at check out $3.45. When I got home I weighed them. Less than a pound for the two. I checked the receipt- the right variety of apple was written on there. ??? Stick with the packaged stuff if you can justify the price they ask. read more

I nearly lost my life due to out-dated food from this store which was not refrigerated properly. It took just a few bites of the food and I was sick for months. I lost one third of my body weight and then spent nearly six months at Stamford after for spending time in their ICU. Unfortunately the doctor treating me at the time was Dr Gregory Tapson and he was on cocaine and arested for DUI evading arrest so I was not under the best care, so of course he was going to miss all that. But it doesn't change the fact that the food that I bought at the shop nearly took my life for me. And then I went to Dr Isabel Bernard who is about the worst Gastro doctor. By the time I was admitted to Stamford they simply said there was a mass hysteria happening in the Monterey peninsula that nobody could see I I was dying. But then again The Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is not exactly a premier hospital known for saving anybody. My Gut never recovered, and well I may be at the end of my life and have to mostly live on a liquid supplement diet as I've been for years, i'm hopeful that this raggedy little market has cleaned up its filthy little act and it's not risking peoples lives with mouldy rotten food. If not mistaken it's owned by nutraceuticals or it was. The only really interesting thing about the store was having met a woman whose sister had been killed by Edwin the serial killer from Santa Cruz many years ago. Now she has a reason to feel bad. Nearly dying from food poisoning is horrible, but it's not like having a family member killed like by a serial killer. She is also one of the kindest people in the community. Unlike the nasty staff at the store. The store didn't bother to consider that a few bites of food would cost me several hundred thousand dollars and take my life from me... like a serial killer! and they have the same emotional landscape...empty. They don't pay their employees anything anyway. read more
