I walked in and the guy in the store (an older white guy) im assuming his name is mark because Ive read some other reviews left and other people seem to have a problem with him as well. He had an attitude with me straight away! He said "Hello" and I said "Hey" and started looking at my packet of products I was interested in purchasing, and then he followed up with "HEY!" Again in a rude way. Im assuming he didn't hear my "hey" so I reminded him "yessir I said hello" btw I'm not a concrete stainer or do concrete work but I was sent to see if they had a specific product. I didn't even get his name he kicked me out as soon as I started trying to discuss a product. I had a packet with all the information needed but he didn't even care to take a look at it. I asked him "is everything okay?" "Did I come off on the wrong foot when I walked in?" And he asked if I had a problem! And I tried to call the person who sent me to get this product and he told me to just get out! Very shameful and disappointing for a small shop to have such poor customer service skills. I've used Cornerstone on projects 3 times over the last few years. His products are very good. The samples on his shop floor are helpful. The location is good and prices are competitive. If you know exactly what you are looking for and you don't have any questions...this is the place for you. If you are not quite sure what you are looking for and would like to discuss it with the owner (Mark?), this is not the place for you. Just a heads-up...he's big time rude. If you try to show him a photo of your project, he won't even look at your phone. He doesn't have that kind of time. He wants you to grab your product and get the hell out of his store. Edit: I read a few of the negative reviews about Mark's attitude. He does sometimes come across as a little short and maybe even rude. But trust me, it's worth working with him and getting past that. He cares and is knowledgeable and that's really hard to find these days. About 20 years ago, I was staining my first floor and Professor Mark taught me everything I needed to know to get the job done right. This week, my contractor walked off the job and once again, Mark sold me the right products and took a LOT of time to teach me how to finish things myself. The floors came out amazing because of him! Went in to get info for acid staining my concrete floor. The guy inside treated my mother and I like we were a nuisance for asking questions. I didn't feel welcome. I didn't feel that he wanted to answer our questions. Although we were the only ones in the store, he seemed impatient, agitated and a bit "above it all". Won't go back. read more

FYI - this business is called Cornerstone Concrete Stain if you are wondering. I just got off the phone with Mark of Cornerstone and I'm so thankful. He was generous with his time talking with someone who will very likely never need to step foot in his store. Long story short: I'm dealing with a shit show created by multiple concrete stainers and whoever poured the slab. Mark took the time to hear my sob story and explain what he thinks happened / went wrong. He then gave me the name of 3 people who is believes can help repair my floor. Mark is an absolutely incredible shop owner (I actually joined Yelp just so I could give him such a good review) - the man is a walking, talking encyclopedia when it comes to staining concrete floors - and his shop is supplied with everything you could possibly need - this is a literal one-stop shop for concrete staining. When I started to stain my indoor concrete floors, Mark spoke with me for an entire hour mapping out all of the pitfalls to avoid and best techniques. These hour-long conversations occurred multiple times. He gave me his cell phone number to call him over the weekend if I got stuck at some point in the project. He even helped me load 500 lbs worth of concrete into my car when it was raining so hard that there were flash flood warnings (not an exaggeration.) He walked me through the prep of the existing concrete, priming the floor for a self-leveling overlay, pouring the self-leveling overlay, staining the overlay with acetone stain, sealing it, and finishing it and was able to supply me with every last material I needed for all of these steps. It's so rare to find a shop so dedicated to its customers - Mark's advice was such an added value that I decided to purchase all of my supplies from him (despite living all the way in Lakeway). In the end, it cost me around $700 to overlay and stain my 510-sqft downstairs area on my own, which is a total steal when you consider that most contractors will charge about $4/sqft ($2040 total) for staining alone (I have no idea what they would have charged for the overlay, but I can bet it would have been be pretty expensive). TL;DR - Mark will bend over backwards to make sure your project is done right, his shop can supply you with literally everything you could possibly need, and you will save a ton of money going this route over hiring a contractor. read more

After finding The Stain Store unexpectedly closed, and the prices at Construction Supply, Inc. unexpectedly high, my next attempt was Cornerstone Concrete Stain. They had the APF Epoxy 400 and Poly 100 I was looking for in stock at a good price, along with accessories like gunite shoes, epoxy rollers, and 18" roller frames and trays. The owner was helpful and honest, even telling me the expense of an 18" roller might not be worth it. Since I wasn't familiar with floor epoxy, aside from knowing that time is an issue, I went with the 18" for speed and do not regret it. Using a 9" roller for the slower curing polyurethane topcoat required noticeably more care to ensure full coverage during both front- and backrolling, especially rolling clear on clear. read more

We weren't sure if we were going to hire a contractor to install tile because staining our floors seemed like a daunting task.
