This local standard is a juice bar with a fairly wide food menu for a place of this sort, including toasts, oatmeal, and chia pudding. I got one of their main smoothies, which was an interesting combination of strawberry, coconut, and a few other flavor notes that didn't ring through as strongly. Their chia pudding, sweetened by agave, was better in flavor than I expected it to be and had just enough of a fruit preserve. This is a refreshing cafe among the heavier fare available along University Ave right next to UVA's campus. The building itself in weathered Pacific Northwest grey wood stands out already among the colonial brick that is everywhere else in and around Charlottesville. It's almost like a little piece of Marin County in Charlottesville, which is further borne out by the brightly illuminated interior with comfy seating and lots of windows. The menu is smoothies, açaí bowls and sandwiches would be right at home for a health conscious clientele. Orders are via iPad, and while there were a number of people waiting for their orders on a beautiful spring Saturday afternoon, the wait was quick, and process was efficient, and the order was promptly called out. Corner juice is my go-to for one main reason: their lox toast. I had never tried lox on toast (bagel usually) and didn't really know what to expect. I was PLEASANTLY surprised, it's so good! The bread is so grainy and crunchy, it works so well together. The matcha and coffee is also good. I also love the açaí bowls- they're sweetened perfectly which is sometimes hard to find. Tried Corner Juice for the first time today in Downtown and I will definitely be back. I had the Corner Colada and the Cure ginger shot. I really liked the Corner Colada but the Cure I will forever pass on. Oh my god it is spicy (at least to me). I mean I know it has cayenne pepper in it and I was prepped for a little sting but yeah not prepped enough haha. If you are like me and a weakling to spicy, I wouldn't try it. It did have a good flavor after the sting wore off haha Definitely try the Corner Colada though if you go. My order is the first thing on the online smoothie menu: the PSW ($7.55). It has mangos, pineapple, spinach, coconut water and mint. Never in my life have I had mint in a smoothie, but wow it adds a slight flavor that is refreshing and subtle. I like my smoothies thicc and vegan (no dairy), which can be a challenge but this smoothie is just that. Thick enough to have body, but still drinkable through a straw. She was so nice and gave us recommendations on things to do in the area. She even let us take a look around the yoga studio that were downstairs. The space was so peaceful and beautiful. As for the drinks, the blue ridge smoothie was ultra creamy and rich and the almond milk latte was nutty with great espresso. The sandwiches were amazing! The tuna avocado sandwich had so many crunchy veggies and high quality tuna. The Parisian sandwich had prosciutto and Brie, and was wonderful. All of their ingredients are fresh and delicious.
